03 March - National afternoon forecast presented by Alex Deakin.
Transcript
00:00Welcome along to your latest weather update from the Met Office. For most it's a fine early spring day out
00:06there, but we do have a stripe of cloud across the country. It's been with us for the past day
00:11or so. It's an old weather front. It's been weakening. Not a lot of rain left in it, but here
00:15and there we're seeing some outbreaks of rain and drizzle, particularly over the hills of South Wales, parts of the
00:21Midlands and southwest England too.
00:23To the south of that, generally fine and still quite mild. A bit of a sea breeze starting to develop
00:27along parts of the south coast. Further north, the wind's a lot lighter than yesterday. Plenty of sunshine for Scotland,
00:33Northern Ireland, Northern England. Just a few showers grazing past the Northern Isles at times, but even here they are
00:39tending to fade away.
00:40In the sunshine, temperatures getting into double digits in many areas. A little cooler for some. Further south, we're seeing
00:47those temperatures getting up to 14, 15, perhaps even 16 degrees Celsius. Quite as mild. We've got this more stubborn,
00:54cloudier zone over the Midlands and Wales. That will keep the skies pretty grey through the day, but the cloud
01:00breaking up more here as we head into the evening.
01:02At the same time, we'll see some showery rain just drifting its way northwards into the east of Northern Ireland
01:08through the early hours, and that will cropping up in the southwest of Scotland by the end of the night.
01:13Before that moves in, things turning quite cold, and there'll be a frost across northern Scotland. But elsewhere, we'll see
01:18the cloud perhaps thickening up again, turning a bit misty and murky through the early hours, helping to keep the
01:24temperatures up above freezing for most.
01:26But as I said, there will be a frost in northern Scotland. So a cold start here, but it should
01:31be a bright start.
01:32A dull damp start for Glasgow and Belfast. Showery rain for southern Scotland spreading its way further east and further
01:39north through the day.
01:40It was the risk of some showery rain on the east coast of Northern Ireland through the morning.
01:44But most of England are worse. Looking at that, brightening up really quite nicely after a bit of a grey,
01:48murky old start.
01:49Some lengthy spells of sunshine by the afternoon. The wind's not particularly strong.
01:54A bit of a breeze around some coasts in Scotland and Northern Ireland, but generally light winds.
01:59But look at where they're wafting the air up from, from the south.
02:02So it's mild air. So temperatures higher on Wednesday back into the mid-teens, perhaps even 17 degrees possible in
02:09one or two spots.
02:10And that milder air drifting further north. So a warmer day for southern Scotland, northern England and North Wales compared
02:17to today.
02:18Showery rain continues to push its way across parts of Scotland during the evening on Wednesday.
02:23And there's another weather front trying to edge its way into the west of Northern Ireland and the western islands
02:28of Scotland at the same time.
02:30That is going to, again, make slow progress as we go through Wednesday night and into Thursday.
02:35High pressure is still dominating, but it's just slowly being pushed away to the east.
02:40But it continues to waft the air up from the south.
02:43So if anything, even warmer air for Thursday temperatures could, parts of eastern England, be a little bit higher.
02:50But this weather front is going to bring some rain into the northwest.
