Success!
Is it just the lucky who are successful? Or are there things you can do to ensure success, real success?
Does the Bible show how to attain true success? Did the Apostle Peter clearly teach that knowledge plays a role? What about education? Did the Apostle Paul teach that Christians needed to study to show themselves approved?
How are humans different from animal instincts?
Is there a place for college/university education in these end times? What about technical or vocational schooling?
Does God expect His people, His saints, to support the work of the ministry? Is the ministry to teach to help ensure success for the individual members to grow in grace, knowledge, and love?
Are God's most faithful people(the Philadelphian Christians) prophesied to instruct many in these last days? What about being a witness? What about the role of the Holy Spirit? Since the Holy Spirit cannot "bring to your remembrance" things you did not learn, are you not to be learning now?
Will true Christians be kings, priests, and teachers in the millennium? Are true Christians supposed to be diligent and able to teach, give an answer/defense now?
In this video Dr. Thiel explains, from the Word of God, how to attain knowledge, better develop love, and tells of the rewards of obtaining that success.

00:04Greetings, friends. This is Steve Dupuy for the Bible News Prophecy Program with Dr. Bob Thiel,
00:09bringing you news and analysis of world events in light of Bible prophecy. Dr. Thiel,
00:15I personally know some people who seem successful. Why are some people lucky and others not?
00:23Well, it's not luck. There's things you can do to be a real success.
00:26From a spiritual perspective, in 1 Corinthians 13.8, we read that love never fails.
00:32Hence, attaining love is success. Now, I'd like to read something that the Apostle Peter was inspired
00:38to write about how to attain Philadelphia, and that is, brotherly love. This is 2 Peter 1,
00:45New King James, starting in verse 3. Because his divine power was given to us
00:49through the knowledge of him who called us. Verse 5. For this very reason, give all diligence
00:56to add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance,
01:02to perseverance godliness, to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love.
01:08If you do these things and abound, you will not be unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
01:14Verse 10. Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call on election sure.
01:20If you do these things, you won't stumble, and an entrance will be supplied to you abundantly
01:23into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
01:28So, Apostle Peter is showing us how to be real success.
01:32And there are many things that can help us do it, but you might notice he mentioned knowledge
01:37a couple of times.
01:39And the book of Ecclesiastes, chapter 10, verse 10 says,
01:43wisdom brings success.
01:45So, the right knowledge, and it's used wisdom, brings success.
01:49And true education helps lead to that.
01:53Does the church help one acquire this true education that leads to success?
02:00Yeah, the Apostle Paul was inspired to write Ephesians 4,
02:05that Jesus gave himself some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists,
02:09some pastors and teachers of hierarchy,
02:11for the equipping of the saints for the work of the ministry.
02:15So, the saints are supposed to support the work.
02:17So, we won't be tossed by every trickery of men, but speaking the truth in love,
02:24being joined together, for every part doing its part,
02:28causes the growth of the body for the edifying of self in love.
02:32And so, saying basically, proper hierarchical church government provides true education.
02:38Now, last century, in a booklet called The Seven Laws of Success,
02:43the late Herbie W. Armstrong wrote,
02:46if you arrive at success in life, you have to set the right goal.
02:49And then comes preparation, get that goal.
02:54Second law of success, in time sequence, is education and preparation.
02:58Now, how can we accomplish some purpose if we don't have the know-how?
03:02Now, one of the things we know about life is that humans don't use instinct like animals do.
03:10You know, animals have a certain advantage over us.
03:13They don't have minds like we do.
03:16But, you know, they can be taught to do certain tricks.
03:19But they don't have the knowledge, perceive truth from error, deploy the will.
03:26They can't develop moral and spiritual character.
03:28But humans, not so much.
03:29It's not as easy for us.
03:31We've got to learn and be taught.
03:32We've got to learn to walk, study, be educated, be prepared for what we want to do.
03:36And so we have to have the right goal,
03:39and then to learn the right way to get there and to train for it.
03:43Many people don't have the right goal, he says,
03:45and they neglect specialized education to get there.
03:50So that's what he wrote.
03:52Now, the Bible tells us in Deuteronomy chapter 17,
03:56starting in verse 14,
03:59starting in verse 14,
04:00that about kings,
04:03when you have a king,
04:04he sits on the throne,
04:05he'll write a copy of the book of the law.
04:08He's going to read it every day
04:10and obey the commandments,
04:11so he doesn't turn from it,
04:12so I'll prolong
04:14his days in his kingdom.
04:18Those verses seem to apply to an ancient king of Israel.
04:22How do they apply to us today?
04:26Well, because it says in the book of Revelation
04:29that we're supposed to be kings and priests.
04:31What we're going to have happen to us,
04:33Revelation chapter 1, verses 5 and 6,
04:35and Revelation 5, verse 10.
04:37And kings and priests need education and training
04:40to properly do those jobs.
04:42Kings are to rule,
04:43and priests are to make wise judgments.
04:46Now, you don't have to have formal education
04:48to be educated in true knowledge.
04:52I mentioned the ministry before.
04:53In Acts chapter 8,
04:55God told Philip to go to a certain place.
04:59He saw this man from Ethiopia,
05:01this eunuch.
05:02He was reading Isaiah.
05:03He didn't understand it.
05:05And Philip was told to go talk to him.
05:08So he said to him,
05:09do you understand what you're reading?
05:10He said,
05:11how can I unless someone guides me?
05:13Then Philip opened his mouth,
05:15beginning with this scripture,
05:16and he preached Jesus to him.
05:17Okay?
05:18So that's part of the thing.
05:20We need teachers now,
05:22but also in the millennium,
05:24it teaches us in Isaiah chapter 30,
05:27starting verse 20,
05:29quote,
05:30yet your teachers will not be moved
05:32into a corner anymore,
05:34but your eyes will see your teachers,
05:36and your ears will hear a word behind you
05:38saying this is the way you walk in it.
05:40Or if you turn to the right,
05:41or whenever you go to the left.
05:43Who are these teachers of the future millennium?
05:48Oh,
05:48those teachers are the resurrected Christians.
05:50So the more you're educating the ways of God,
05:53the better you'll be able to teach.
05:54You know,
05:55the Bible says even kids are supposed to be taught.
05:58Proverbs 22,
05:596,
05:59train up a child the way you should go.
06:01Deuteronomy 6,
06:02verses 6 and 7.
06:05These words I command you shall be in your heart.
06:07You'll teach him diligently to your children.
06:10Talk to them when you sit in your house.
06:12When you walk by the way and you lie down,
06:13you rise up.
06:15Now,
06:15in addition to moral and biblical instructions,
06:18in this world,
06:19as much as possible,
06:20people need to learn how to read,
06:21write,
06:22understand basic mathematics.
06:25My wife,
06:26I,
06:26my two older sons,
06:27by the way,
06:28we do have a university college education and degrees.
06:31Of course,
06:32in this age of woke colleges and universities,
06:35you know,
06:35caution is advised.
06:37For some technical school training,
06:39maybe better vocational training.
06:41And don't think,
06:42because Jesus might come back within a decade or so,
06:45you don't need to be educated.
06:48Look,
06:49if you're young,
06:49you might end up living into the millennium.
06:51Your education might benefit you then.
06:55If you're older,
06:56your spiritual education could be used in many ways.
06:59You know,
07:00the Bible in Acts chapter 17 talks about the brethren in Berea.
07:05They were more diligent than others.
07:08They're more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica because they searched the
07:11scriptures with all readiness to find out if things were so.
07:15So they were trying to learn.
07:18You know,
07:18Peter tells us in 2 Peter 3,
07:2017 and 18,
07:22that we don't want to be led away by the error of the wicked,
07:26but we're to grow together.
07:28In the grace and knowledge,
07:30our Lord and Savior,
07:30Jesus Christ.
07:33Furthermore,
07:34in 1 Peter 3,
07:3515,
07:36Peter wrote,
07:38sanctify the Lord God in your hearts and always be ready to give a defense.
07:42That means answer to everyone who asks you for a reason of the hope that's in you.
07:47With meekness and fear.
07:49Well,
07:49you can't be ready to give an answer if you're not prepared.
07:53And while that ability is needed in all ages,
07:56in these end times,
07:57there's a prophecy.
07:59Daniel chapter 11,
08:00verse 33,
08:01that says,
08:02people who understand shall instruct many.
08:05Now,
08:06the old radio church of God taught this as well.
08:09And it says,
08:11this prophecy concerns God's church.
08:14They wrote that in 1960.
08:19In Daniel,
08:21it said that they that understand among the people shall instruct many.
08:26Does this imply that there are also some among the people that don't understand?
08:34And sadly,
08:35yes,
08:35many forgotten that prophecy,
08:37or at least what to do about it.
08:38Even though that should be fulfilled,
08:40I think,
08:40within the next decade or so.
08:43But Paul ran into the same issues in his day with Christians.
08:47Ephesians 5,
08:4812,
08:48he said,
08:49he wrote,
08:50though by this time,
08:51you ought to be teachers.
08:52You need someone else to teach you again,
08:54the first principles,
08:55but the oracles of God,
08:57you've come and need milk and not solid food.
08:59So Paul was disappointed that Christian,
09:01he was communicating with,
09:03hadn't grown more in knowledge.
09:06Again,
09:06we're supposed to be able to be teachers.
09:08In Isaiah 43,
09:11attendances are supposed to be witnesses.
09:14And in Acts 5,
09:1629,
09:18I'll read this from AFP.
09:20Peter said to the people who arrested him,
09:24we are obligated to obey God rather than men.
09:28And Jesus was raised up.
09:32To be a prince and savior,
09:33to give repentance and remission from sins.
09:36And he says,
09:37we are a witness of those things,
09:38as is also the Holy Spirit,
09:41which God has given to those who obey him.
09:44So how can Philadelphia Christians be witnesses,
09:47take action,
09:48instruct many if they're not prepared?
09:51Well,
09:51so far,
09:52God has given us some good pointers on how to get prepared.
09:57Does he have any more pointers?
10:01Well,
10:02Jesus said the Holy Spirit will assist.
10:04Matthew 10,
10:06starting verse 18,
10:08you'll be brought before governors and kings for my sake,
10:12a testimony to them,
10:13the Gentiles.
10:14So when they deliver you up to speak,
10:16don't worry about how you should speak.
10:18It'll be given to you that hour,
10:19what you should speak.
10:21For it's not you who speaks,
10:22but the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you.
10:25Also,
10:26we talked about this in Mark 13,
10:29verse 9 through 11.
10:31Watch out for yourself.
10:32They're going to deliver you up.
10:34You're going to give a testimony.
10:35The gospel must be first preached.
10:37They're going to rest you,
10:38deliver you up.
10:39Don't worry or premeditate what you're going to speak.
10:42Whatever is given to you in that hour,
10:43speak.
10:44For it's not you who speaks,
10:45but the Holy Spirit.
10:47Will God do all the speaking for us?
10:51No.
10:52The Holy Spirit will bring to mind things you've studied,
10:56will assist you with your wording.
10:58Because Jesus also said,
11:00this is John 14 AFV,
11:03starting verse 25.
11:05I've spoken these things to you,
11:07while I'm yet present with you.
11:08But when the Comforter comes,
11:10even the Holy Spirit,
11:12which the Father will send in my name,
11:14that one,
11:15she'll teach you all things,
11:17and she'll bring to your remembrance
11:19everything I've told you.
11:21So you've got to be prepared,
11:22as the Apostle Peter wrote,
11:24to be able to give answers to those who ask.
11:26It's got to be brought back to you.
11:30Now,
11:30the Apostle Paul,
11:322 Timothy 2,
11:34verse 15,
11:36said,
11:37be diligent to present yourself approved to God,
11:40a worker who doesn't need to be ashamed,
11:42rightly dividing the word of truth.
11:43And the old King James,
11:45by the way,
11:46said the same thing,
11:47but instead of being diligent,
11:48it said,
11:49study to show yourself approved.
11:51Well,
11:52it's the word of God
11:53that we need to study diligently,
11:54and that includes not only
11:56reading the Bible,
11:58paying attention to sermons,
11:59but also reading church literature.
12:01One of the reasons
12:02is that parts of the Bible
12:03aren't always easy to understand.
12:05As Peter points out,
12:072 Peter 3,
12:08starting in verse 14,
12:11it says,
12:12therefore,
12:13brethren,
12:13looking forward to those things,
12:15be diligent,
12:17as also our beloved brother Paul,
12:20according to the wisdom
12:21which was given to him
12:21is written to you,
12:22as also in his epistles,
12:24speaking in them
12:26of these things,
12:27which are in some things
12:28hard to understand,
12:30which untaught
12:31and unstable people
12:32twist their own destruction
12:33as they do
12:34the rest of the scriptures.
12:36Notice,
12:37Peter says,
12:38one is to be diligent
12:39so one will not be moved
12:40by untaught
12:41and unstable people.
12:42Well,
12:43you're supposed to be
12:43a taught person,
12:44educated person.
12:48And Paul wrote,
12:491 Corinthians 4,
12:521,
12:52starting in verse 4,
12:54I thank my God
12:56always concerning you
12:57for the grace
12:58that was given to you
12:58by Christ Jesus
12:59that you were enriched
13:00in everything by him
13:02in all utterance
13:03and knowledge.
13:05So we need to be
13:06enriched in knowledge.
13:09And if you are,
13:10God may be you,
13:11might use you,
13:12not just for friends,
13:14but potentially
13:15to instruct many
13:16as prophesied
13:17in Daniel chapter 11,
13:19verse 33.
13:21And possibly,
13:23let's go to Luke's account,
13:24Luke 21,
13:25starting in verse 12,
13:26Jesus said,
13:27possibly,
13:29you'll be brought
13:30before kings
13:30and rulers
13:31for my name's sake,
13:33but it will turn out
13:34for you
13:35as an occasion
13:36for testimony.
13:38Therefore,
13:39settle it in your hearts
13:40not to meditate beforehand
13:41on what you will answer,
13:42for I will give you
13:43a mouth and wisdom
13:44which your adversaries
13:45will not be able
13:45to contradict
13:46or resist.
13:48And remember,
13:49Jesus also said
13:50the Holy Spirit
13:50would bring remembrance
13:51all things
13:52he said to us.
13:55What exactly
13:56does that mean?
13:59It means
13:59the Holy Spirit
14:00won't bring things
14:01back to remembrance
14:01if you don't know them.
14:02So we need to take
14:03steps now
14:04for our physical
14:05and spiritual education.
14:08Hopefully,
14:08you love your neighbor
14:09enough to learn
14:10more to help them.
14:11Hopefully,
14:11you've got true
14:12Philadelphia-era love
14:13and support
14:14of God's work.
14:16True education
14:16can help you
14:17be a success that way.
14:18True education
14:19is not a matter of luck.
14:22Thank you,
14:22Dr. Thiel.
