00:00Since the show ended yesterday, there have been stories about Keyshawn Booty, the wide receiver in New England, being a
00:09potential trade piece for the Patriots after they acquired A.J. Brown.
00:15And one Graziano, Dan Graziano from ESPN, reported the Patriots have received calls on Booty and likely will continue to
00:26do so.
00:27And as always, unless and until we see a contract extension, we're justified in wondering whether the player is in
00:33the team's long-term plans.
00:35The Raiders and Commanders stand out as two teams that could still use help at wide receiver.
00:43So there was that.
00:45There was also a report from Mark Morales-Smith of Sports Illustrated talking about Booty to Washington, saying Terry McLaurin's
00:56the only locked-in starting wide receiver behind him on their depth chart are third-round rookie Antonio Williams, Traylon
01:03Burks, and Deami Brown.
01:05Booty could go to Washington and immediately step in as their wide receiver, too, behind Terry McLaurin.
01:10If the Commanders don't end up landing Brandon Ayuk, Booty would be a fine consolation prize.
01:18So, we have a new name in the mix.
01:21I know that some of you believe guys like Brian Thomas Jr. and others should be in the mix, should
01:27be in the conversation.
01:28That's fine.
01:29Look, I am where Bevy99 is as well.
01:34I'd feel much more comfortable if there was a proven wide receiver opposite Terry McLaurin to open up the 2026
01:44season.
01:44I'd feel much better about that.
01:47And, you know, Booty played with Jaden Daniels for that one year in 22.
01:52That was Jaden's first year in Baton Rouge.
01:57And his receivers were neighbors, Booty.
02:01Mason Taylor was the tight end Jason Taylor's son.
02:04Brian Thomas Jr. was on that team.
02:06And Booty caught 48 passes that year for 538 yards and two touchdowns.
02:13Jaden's 22 season in Baton Rouge was a good season.
02:18And there were memorable moments, including the overtime win over Alabama in Death Valley.
02:24But 23 ended up being just the lights out start to finish season.
02:29He was, you know, finding his way through that first half of 22 and then really came on.
02:36Meantime, Booty got picked by New England in the sixth round of the 23 draft.
02:40Barely played in 23 as a rookie.
02:42But then in Drake May's first season, 43 catches, 589 yards.
02:48And then last year, 33 catches, 551 yards.
02:52He's right around 5'11", 6 feet.
02:55He's a good route runner.
02:57All of the Patriots receivers last year were excellent route runners.
03:02But now they've added A.J. Brown, you know, to replace Diggs because Diggs is no longer there.
03:07But they're looking to move Booty, who right now has one year left on his rookie deal.
03:15He's playing under that four-year rookie contract.
03:17He was the sixth rounder, so there's no fifth-year option.
03:20I mean, it's barely a salary cap hit at about $3.7 million.
03:26And what are you going to give up to trade for him?
03:28I can't imagine it's going to be any more than a day three pick.
03:33And maybe a later day three pick.
03:36Maybe more of a sixth or a seventh rounder.
03:39Maybe it's a fifth, you know, because he was a sixth and he's played well.
03:44He was important for them.
03:47But that would be a guy, Bevy99, that would have some pelts on the wall.
03:53And I'd be okay with that.
03:55I just want somebody else.
03:57And I know that there's a lot of positive discussion about Antonio Williams.
04:03He's a rookie.
04:04He's a third-round pick.
04:06It doesn't mean that he's not going to turn out to be the next third-round pick that turns into
04:10Terry McLaurin.
04:11That would be awesome.
04:12I know there's been a lot of positive talk about Traylon Burks.
04:17You know, Blau said the other day that he's, you know, definitely a guy to keep an eye on.
04:22And there was a reason they signed him pretty quickly and brought him back.
04:27Because he was a former first-round guy.
04:30He does have size.
04:31He does have excellent hands.
04:33We saw that in the Denver Sunday night game.
04:36You know, I would hope there's still some belief in McCaffrey.
04:40I always liked Van Jefferson.
04:42I don't know if he even makes this football team.
04:45But I always thought that he played bigger than he was.
04:47And then there's been this recent talk because Zach Selby, who writes on the team's website, essentially wrote a story
04:55about how Jaden Bradley, an undrafted free agent from UNLV, who's 6'4", apparently just torched people during OTAs.
05:06I mean, for every story over the years of somebody looking really good in OTAs and then not even making
05:13the football team or barely making a dent if they did make the football team.
05:17Who knows?
05:18Maybe Jaden Bradley will end up being the guy.
05:20But when I look at it, I'm like, I want something that is known opposite Terry McLaurin.
05:29Deami Brown's on the roster.
05:30Great.
05:31Deami is not a true number two.
05:35I don't think he is.
05:36I don't think Luke McCaffrey's shown enough to be a true number two.
05:40Maybe Burks is a guy that just took some time.
05:45You know, it takes time for these guys.
05:47A lot of these guys don't get it right away.
05:50He's still super young and talented.
05:53The reason he was picked in the first round, he's got a really good size, got good hands.
05:59Maybe it's him.
06:02But if you tell me, if Dan Graziano says they're interested, you know, they're one of the two teams that
06:10are interested, I'm fine with that.
06:12You know, it could be that there's recent interest because they have essentially said, yeah, we're not going to wait
06:20for Brandon Ayuk.
06:22Yeah, it's not worth waiting for Brandon Ayuk.
06:24All of those things are possible.
06:26There's a lot about the Brandon Ayuk situation.
06:29We just don't know.
06:32They know.
06:33And even maybe what we don't know is that they don't know as much as we'd hope they'd know.
06:40But, yeah, I thought he was a really solid receiver.
06:44I think he's versatile.
06:45He can play the X.
06:46He can play the Z.
06:47I think he can really be moved around as I think they'll move Terry around.
06:52I think we're going to see a lot of that.
06:54You know, somebody, where is it?
06:59Um, dude's name was Dalton.
07:01Dalton, Dalton.
07:02Here it is.
07:04Uh, Dalton sent me a note and just said that it looks like David Blau sees Terry the same way
07:12Scott Turner did,
07:13which is as a guy that can move around and end up pre-snap in the slot.
07:21I'd expect some of that.
07:23Absolutely.
07:24Remember, Scott Turner did a good job with Terry McLaurin, moving him around and getting him into good matchups for
07:33Taylor Heineke and Carson Wentz and whomever else was playing quarterback.
07:36And, yeah, I think it was 22, maybe more so than 21.
07:40Um, but you had Terry lined up in the slot a lot more than anybody anticipated, and he was matched
07:46up at times against linebackers.
07:50Mismatch.
07:51Safeties.
07:52Mismatch.
07:53Third corner.
07:54Mismatch.
07:56Yeah, I expect a lot of that.
07:58So, uh, booty would bring, uh, versatility and, um, wouldn't be very costly.
08:03I can't, look, I think that's one of the things we, I've talked about this for years.
08:07I think the thing that we get wrong a lot, of course, the draft is always something that is a
08:13complete crapshoot for us, but is trade compensation.
08:16Trying to guess because you don't know what the market is and it never ends up being exactly what you
08:21think or even what is reported.
08:23But I can't imagine you'd have to give up a night two pick.
08:27No way.
08:28It's a, it's a day three pick and it feels to me like it's a fifth rounder.
08:34Something like that.
08:36Uh, for a guy that, um, did have a good season.
08:41You know, he last year, you know, in, in that season, I mean, 33 catches, but six touchdowns on 33
08:49catches.
08:49Uh, and remember he had that excellent touchdown catch in the playoff game against Houston, which was just of the,
09:00of all of the playoff games that were played out of all of them in January of 2026.
09:07That was the one in which I felt like the winning team got lucky because there is no way D
09:16'Amico Ryans should have allowed his offensive coordinator to continue to drop back CJ Stroud over and over again.
09:23On that day with the weather and the defense that the Patriots were playing, all they had to do was
09:29punt 10 times and they probably would have won the game, but instead he threw four interceptions and they lost
09:37a football game that they still had a chance to win.
09:41And their punter punted like five or six times should have been 10 or 11 and they would have won
09:46the game.
09:47They should have lined up and punted it on first or second down and just put their defense back out
09:52onto the field over and over again, man.
09:55We haven't seen, you know, I know this is going back to the end of, of last season, but man,
10:02last year was a real Renaissance resurgence, uh, of defensive football in the NFL.
10:09It really was fun to watch in the post season to see new England's defense and Houston's defense and Denver's
10:19defense and Seattle's defense.
10:21You know, ultimately the two, the best defensive team in the NFL or in the NFC got to the Superbowl
10:29and maybe in terms of the way they were playing the second or third best defensive team in the AFC
10:35got to the Superbowl.
10:36Now, I wonder if 2026 will be the same because how long did we talk about here and everywhere else
10:44in all of your circles about how, man, the old defense wins championships, offense puts people in the seats, defense
10:51wins championships thing is so outdated.
10:54It wasn't last year.
10:56It wasn't.
10:57Now, some of the best quarterbacks in the league went down last year.
11:01You know, there was no Mahomes in the playoffs.
11:04There was no Lamar Jackson in the playoffs.
11:07There was no Jaden Daniels in the playoffs.
11:12Uh, all right.
11:13Uh, we'll kick it off this morning with some football talk.
11:17Would you be okay sending new England a day three pick for Kayshawn Booty, uh, and having him be the
11:25guy, the answer to who's the number two receiver in 2026, or would you rather hold out for either Iuke
11:36or just go get digs right now?
