00:00All right, so here's the deal real quickly, and then we'll get to the calls.
00:03The commanders have 64 total penalties called against them this year,
00:07but only 55 have been accepted.
00:10So it's 64 total for 429 yards, but a nullified yards number of 231.
00:21They've allowed 12 first downs via penalty.
00:27So you have that.
00:29You have, for the opponents that they've gone against, only 43 penalties,
00:36and that's called, not accepted, or, yeah, accepted, right?
00:44So you've got a natural difference of just 19 right there.
00:49Actually, 21, sorry, bad math.
00:53283 total yards, a nullified yards mark of 29.
00:59And 11 first downs.
01:01We all know it's a huge problem.
01:04We all know it's a huge problem.
01:06Now, I mentioned 55 of those penalties have been accepted, right?
01:12And that's according to next-gen stats.
01:16I mentioned the Rams at 61 penalties that have been accepted.
01:23So worse than the commanders.
01:26So I ask you with that in mind, who is it on?
01:31Very simply.
01:32Coaching staff, new offensive line coach, first year as the head offensive line coach,
01:36new offensive coordinator, embattled head coach, they lost Laramie Tunsil,
01:42they had a disaster at center, Cosme missed two-and-a-half games or two-plus games, right?
01:53Is it on the players or is it on the coaches?
01:57And, again, the reason why I ask, you know, is it on the coaches or is it on the players?
02:03Because most people would say, well, again, great teams, great coaches have their teams,
02:09you know, Harbaugh and Andy Reid and all.
02:11I can give you all sorts of numbers over many years that would indicate, no, that's not the case.
02:16And, again, I'm just giving you the opponent this week and everybody respects the bleep out of Sean McVay
02:21and they got six more penalties called against them and accepted than the commanders.
02:26So is Sean McVay doing a bad job or is it his players?
02:31Is Mike McDaniels doing a bad job?
02:36Mike McDonald of the Seattle Seahawks doing a bad job or is it his players?
02:41You see where I'm getting at?
02:42So let's get to you.
02:44Anthony, why don't you just quickly weigh in because we heard from Mitch before we go to the calls.
02:49I mean, do you blame both?
02:51Do you blame one side or the other?
02:54Who's at fault here?
02:55I mean, I think definitely both parties are at fault.
02:58I'll start with the players first because having these lapses in focus and, you know,
03:05it might be a sign that you're tired.
03:07It might be a sign that you're not locked in and you should be.
03:09But I always attribute it to the coaches because it's either you're coaching it or you're allowing it.
03:16And literally the last four weeks for us to generate, I think the number, I don't know where I had
03:20it.
03:20I think it was 44 penalties.
03:23The last four weeks alone is just like, what's going on?
03:27And also the fact that we were coming out of a bye and we had five penalties in the first
03:31quarter alone.
03:32Like, dude, this problem has got to cease.
03:36And to come out of a bye the first quarter and look as bad as we did, that is a
03:41sign that, again,
03:43I'm putting it on the coaches because to me it just shows we are a poorly coached team.
03:48That is just how I feel.
03:49Last four weeks, according to NFL Jesus, 9, 7, 9, and 10 in terms of penalties total.
03:57So that's 19, 26, 35, 35 in the last four games, but 44 over the last five games.
04:06Yeah, that's what it was.
04:07So maybe that's the number you were talking about.
04:10But let me give you just real quickly before we – and I understand what you're saying.
04:15It looks bad, right?
04:16Again, I keep mentioning Mike McDonald and the Seahawks, right?
04:19I mean, everybody respects the bleep out of Mike McDonald.
04:22They won the Super Bowl last year.
04:2564 penalties total this year.
04:2864.
04:30They had 14 for 150 in a game against the Chargers a couple of weeks ago.
04:34Now, they've gotten better the last two weeks, only 4 of 20 against Kansas City in a game that they
04:40dominated,
04:40and 5 of 43, or 5-4-43 the other night in a game that they ultimately lost but was
04:47close into the fourth quarter.
04:50But the point being is, again, nobody would question whether Mike McDonald is a good coach.
04:57Now, they did have a change of offensive coordinator because they lost him to a head coaching job.
05:02So maybe that has contributed.
05:03But is there no progress that you just mentioned?
05:07And literally, the last two weeks, you literally said the last two weeks, we're coming out of a bye week.
05:13Yes.
05:14And we begin the first quarter with five.
05:16Understand.
05:16That's all I'm saying.
05:17Yeah.
05:17No, I get it.
05:18I get it.
05:19And that's what I have been saying is that it's not only – it not only hasn't been addressed satisfactorily,
05:26satisfactory, but it has not been addressed – like, it's gotten worse.
05:31So, like, to your point, right?
05:33Okay, the Rams, again, 69 total penalties, 61 accepted, 8 and 7 the last two weeks against bad opponents,
05:447 for 90 against the Vegas Raiders, 8 for 40 against the Chargers, but two lopsided wins.
05:53So, again, is Sean McVay doing a bad job?
05:55Are they showing tremendous progress?
05:57Maybe they're showing a little bit, but they went from 4 for 31 and a loss against the Arizona Cardinals
06:03to a higher number.
06:05So, again, these numbers, I think people just automatically are trained to blame coaches for anything that they can
06:13and don't sit back and realize, well, wait a second.
06:17If we're going to blame coaches, it can't just be blame Dan Quinn.
06:21We have to blame, in this case that I'm trying to point out, Mike McDonald and Sean McVay as well.
06:27Right?
06:28And say that they're doing a bad job with their team.
06:30I mean, I can hear you on that.
06:32I can hear you.
06:33All right, let's get quickly to Kevin in D.C.
06:35and try the phone lines again, see if they've cleared up.
06:38Hello, Kev, how are you?
06:39Hey, good evening, guys.
06:40And don't let Russ lie to you.
06:42He's like Kevin Bacon.
06:44He can dance.
06:45He got moves.
06:46But first, do we blame the coaching?
06:48How about we take it a step further?
06:51Every week I look at a game, my offensive line is on the ground more than their cleats.
06:55That's one thing.
06:56And two, can we blame Dan Quinn or do we blame Adam Peters for his team building?
07:01Because if a guy's getting a penalty and you want to take him out, there's nothing behind him.
07:06So, dude, we blame Adam Peters for having all this money.
07:09And we keep saying we had all this money this offseason.
07:11I think that's a fantastic question.
07:14I mean, we've talked so much at nauseam.
07:16For not putting together a competent squad.
07:18Okay, so let me touch it, go down.
07:20Then Chris Russell can step in.
07:22So, do we need to blame him?
07:24Don't blame me.
07:25I have nothing to do with it.
07:27I could probably play center.
07:30Well, I probably could.
07:31People that think that Dan Quinn is going to leave, I'm a 76ers fan.
07:35He leaves coaches too long.
07:37So, Dan Quinn's not going anywhere anytime soon.
07:40My guy.
07:40I appreciate you, Kev.
07:42We've got to take a quick timeout so we can stay on track.
07:45Dumb Dumb of the Day coming up next.
07:47And as well, we'll try and squeeze in another call.
07:49J.D. 5 at 5 coming up.
07:51Trey Young going against his former team.
07:53We'll have a little preview of that game and the Atlanta Hawks.
07:56And as well, we've got some Nationals news that we want to tackle in the 5 o'clock hour.
08:02Also, right here, Rooster Radio, T980.
08:04Stay with us.
