00:00Kayshawn Booty broke out last year to go for 551 yards and was a big play threat for the Patriots.
00:0716.7 yards per catch.
00:10Now, he only caught 33 balls in 14 games.
00:13Over the last two seasons, he's averaged mid-30s catches and right around 550 to 560 receiving yards.
00:22This is a guy, though, that is a downfield threat.
00:25He's averaged 15 yards per reception in his career.
00:28I like this player, Danny.
00:30Watched him a lot, making catches on well-thrown deep balls from Drake May last year.
00:34Daniels' great strength, obviously, is his touch and his accuracy down the field as well.
00:39And Booty now wants to be traded because they're going and getting A.J. Brown.
00:43They brought in Romeo Dobbs.
00:44They've upgraded the room.
00:46They've pushed him down the depth chart.
00:48He's only 24 years old.
00:49He was a sixth-round pick just a couple of years ago.
00:52So I ask you, I've got very high interest in calling on Booty.
00:56Are you interested in a Booty call?
00:58Yeah, I was going to make that same bet.
01:00And great minds or mediocre minds think the same.
01:02Yeah, 100%.
01:03This is an NFL wide receiver, so I'm interested.
01:06You know, not a guy that never was.
01:07Not a fourth-round draft project.
01:09Not a dude that was overdrafted or whatever.
01:12I'm not waiting for someone else's scraps.
01:14Even though I guess you could technically say that it is because he's sort of been replaced and supplanted.
01:17But he went for more yards the last couple of years than any returning wide receiver they have.
01:23So, yeah, I'm into that.
01:25That's where I'm at.
01:26I mean, if you are a receiver that has any pelts on the wall that isn't 35 or, you know,
01:31a reclamation project of some sort,
01:33I'm into it, especially with the skill set that you touched on.
01:36The yards per reception is intriguing.
01:37I want that top off the defense, and I think he can do that good enough.
01:40Well, that's the key to me.
01:42I'd have to re-watch his catches, and maybe I will sometime tomorrow or this weekend, to see him after
01:48the catch.
01:49I don't remember him being shifty or, you know, the coop, the two-door that's kind of bobbing and weaving
01:53through traffic.
01:54It, to me, is a little bit more like almost like Traylon Burks.
01:59He's not that big.
02:00Burks is listed 6'3", 215.
02:02He's only 5'11", 6'0", and about 200 pounds.
02:04But he's kind of a contested catch guy.
02:07A lot of back shoulder stuff.
02:08Ran down the sideline a lot.
02:10Can certainly run some routes in this offense for Blau in the middle of the field.
02:14I think he could be, he's not listed as a huge guy, but like that big guy that boxes people
02:20out and can make the contested catch.
02:22But I wonder what the price point is.
02:24I mean, if you called them right now and you offered a future 6th, do they trade you booty?
02:30Because if they would, I would do that in a heartbeat.
02:33Where's your line?
02:34That's what I was wondering, right?
02:35With the NFL and trade values, my annual caveat, or not my annual, my weekly caveat, I'm terrible at it,
02:41predicting it, what someone might go for.
02:44But would you go as high as a 4th?
02:46No, definitely not.
02:47I'm debating a 5th.
02:50Maybe I could get there.
02:51Maybe.
02:52If I gave you a 5th, it would have to be in 28.
02:56It wouldn't be in this coming draft in D.C., I don't think.
02:59But I would give you a 6th for 27 or a 5th for the following year.
03:05Okay.
03:06Yeah, I mean, I would go, I could be talked into a 4th knowing that I'm going to have a
03:12bunch of maneuvers coming up at some point.
03:14I think that's rich.
03:16It is a little rich.
03:17It's 35 catches, you know, the last two seasons.
03:20Oh, sure.
03:20Yeah, but it's also, you know.
03:21Johnny Brown's done that here, I think.
03:24He has career-highest 30.
03:27And everybody jumped for joy when that happened.
03:29So, like, as part of a, plus the skill set, like, it's such a position that I'm screaming about.
03:35I'm going, there's a fire, and someone's going to hand me a fire hydrant, or fire extinguisher.
03:39I'm going to take it.
03:40But I understand your point that 4th is a little bit rich.
03:42You're paying for what might be.
03:44But I think his role here could be bigger than it was there.
03:46Even though he wasn't a featured player in an offense that didn't have much wide receiver talent, certainly over the
03:51last couple of years.
03:52Right.
03:52I think his skill set unlocks something here that it might not have there, if that makes sense.
03:58Yeah, and he'd be in the same boat here.
04:01Right?
04:01He's not going to be a featured player.
04:03Diggs last year was kind of the receiver their offense went through.
04:06May threw to the tight ends in that offense a lot.
04:09I think, similarly, Washington, with the Blau offense now, is going to go through McLaurin.
04:13They've floated the idea of him getting 10 targets a week.
04:16I'll believe that when I see it.
04:18If he's averaging 10 targets per, that'd be great.
04:20I just, I think it'll be closer to, you know, 7 or 8.
04:23But they're also going to heavily involve Chigakonkwo, their tight end.
04:28So I think, you know, the notion that they need a number 2 receiver might even be a little bit
04:34flawed just in nature.
04:35Because I think they view it a little bit differently, with Akonkwo kind of being weapon number 2, a la
04:40Ertz.
04:41But if you look at his PFF grade last year, it was number 36 among 80-plus qualified wide receivers.
04:48He scored 6 touchdowns, which cracked the top 20.
04:51He's a big guy and a physical guy in the red zone.
04:54And the yards per reception were 4th in the NFL.
04:58Jumps out at you.
04:59Yeah.
04:594th out of 81 qualified receivers via PFF.
05:03The other thing I like is, and I know we've kind of done this dance where we disagreed a little
05:08bit about worrying about Antonio Williams when you bring someone in.
05:12But I do think he is a better fit for, like, an Antonio Williams compliment based on where you line
05:20him up.
05:21You know what I mean?
05:22I don't think he's going to take a ton of, he can play all over like most receivers do anymore.
05:26He can line up in the slot.
05:27But this is not like bringing in his teammate last year, Diggs, who's primarily a slot receiver.
05:32He had 711 snaps out wide, 70 in the slot out of his 768.
05:40Tells you the story there, right?
05:41He's more Jawan Jennings to me.
05:42Like, he's going out that way and running some in-breakers or some fade balls on the sideline.
05:47Yeah, it feels like, and again, who knows?
05:50Maybe the Patriots might say that they're there, really appreciate it.
05:53You're under contract for cheap and we have a young quarterback.
05:55You know, somebody tweaks a knee or slips on something or gets a bone bruise.
06:00We're going to need you at some point.
06:01We're not in any hurry to get rid of you.
06:03But if they are willing to do so, to me, this is the, you know, one man's trash is another
06:08man's treasure.
06:09This is something I'm very interested in.
06:11Again, the yards per reception, I think, are worth more than the volume of catches.
06:15This is not a 100-catch guy.
06:16It's not even an 80-catch guy.
06:17It's not even a 60-catch guy, probably.
06:19This is that 40 to 50 catches, and I think you could go 800 yards at maximum when he's going
06:26down the football field.
06:27And I don't even know that you want him to do that.
06:29I mean, not want him to do that.
06:30Want to feature him that much?
06:31But the possibility and the threat, I think, are worth a decent premium to me as a pair.
06:37There's one other element of Kayshaun Booty that I think has to be mentioned, which is where did he go
06:43to college?
06:44LSU.
06:45Yeah.
06:46And in 2022, who was his quarterback?
06:49Jaden Daniels.
06:50Daniels that year was the leading passer with 17 touchdowns and three picks.
06:54This was before his breakout Heisman unbelievable season.
06:58But it was the last year for Booty, and in that season, he ended up catching 50 balls for over
07:03500 yards and was one of the key members of that offense.
07:06I like a familiarity with Daniels and a rapport and a relationship with Daniels.
07:11It's one of the selling points, frankly, on Brandon Ayuk, one of the few things about that possible transaction that
07:17doesn't turn me completely off.
07:19I don't know what their relationship is.
07:21I don't see him liking the posts for the commanders from OTAs like Brandon Ayuk is.
07:28Who today was celebrating a catch out of the backfield from Rashad White on social media, one of his former
07:35teammates at Arizona State.
07:36But I would have to imagine they've got a decent relationship.
07:40And if Jaden does like the player and they played well together in 2022, which is four years ago in
07:45college, I like it even more.
07:48There's a natural familiarity with how he operates, how he runs routes that helps with the onboarding process.
07:56That's part of it, too, right?
07:58I mean, the Daniels magnetism, we talked about this earlier with the Capitals, and Washington's kind of getting that for
08:03football a little bit.
08:04They're not the cool kid, but they're much cooler than they were before, and Daniels is at the epicenter of
08:09that, right?
08:09I mean, the cool points they won in 2024, where people think of him and them and Peters and Quinn
08:16as everybody's favorite buddy and the Harris ownership group, because it's their power wash and everything that was.
08:20Dan Snyder away.
08:22They're one of the teams, right?
08:23And Daniels is kind of, again, at the core of that.
08:27I just think that if you're the Patriots, there's not really a good need to trade him, because you're just
08:33in the—right now, you're in the business of hoarding talent for Drake May.
08:37So he can be upset if he wants to.
08:39When the season starts, he might effectively be your number three wide receiver.
08:43The problem for him is, again, he's not playing in the slot a lot.
08:47And while A.J. Brown will occasionally, and Dobbs will occasionally, my guess is both of those guys, you know,
08:52that's an X and a Z, and so you're just shoved down the board a little bit.
08:56Mack Hollins can do some of the same stuff as him, a little bit redundant in that way.
09:00They also have a burner.
09:01They want to involve more of this kid, Kyle Williams, who was a blazer really fast last year.
09:07So I think they are redundant, and a draft pick might be worth it.
09:12But if I'm Peters, I'm just calling, because that's more interesting to me, to go young with upside, hungry player
09:20coming into his own, than more money for digs.
09:24I know there's no draft pick tied to that, which makes that worthwhile, too.
09:28Or certainly Ayuk, who's got more baggage than you can fit on the plane overhead.
09:32I think also, you look at it again, I keep referencing this.
09:35They offered Alec Pierce a bajillion dollars, who has slightly more production than Booty has had.
09:41I know there is a lot more in Pierce's bank than there has been for Booty.
09:47He led the NFL in catches the last two years, but to your point, it's a similar skill set.
09:50Yeah, it's like a deep threat.
09:52So instead of paying 30, or let's say Booty was on the open market, it wouldn't be 30, it would
09:55be, what, 15?
09:57Some people go, what?
09:58A guy that's never had 50 catches?
09:59You're going to throw him that much money?
10:01But people are going, listen, this is the easy button.
10:03This is the thing in an offense where either you could throw it to him, or act like you're throwing
10:07it to him,
10:07and it scares the hell out of the defense.
10:09And now it lets a bunch of guys eat underneath, right?
10:12You don't have to have Deshaun Jackson to throw it deep, or to have an effective offense,
10:15but it sure as bleep helps, you know?
10:17And that's kind of the idea here.
10:18This would be the knockoff, cheap, you know, outlet mall version of Alec Pierce
10:24in a guy that can go deep and is one of the leaders in yards per reception.
10:28I wonder, I mean, I've talked to you every day about receivers, it seems like for a month,
10:32for more than one month, a couple of months.
10:34And Toby and I were at the Nats game yesterday in the press box talking wideouts,
10:37and he's been out at OTAs, and, you know, his take that they need more and kind of feels similar
10:42to you.
10:43Does this quell the concern?
10:45I mean, it's a little bit redundant to me in terms of it's not –
10:48if the problem is that you don't want to just roll the dice with them,
10:52that they're right on a lot of unproven guys.
10:54They're banking on McCaffrey, maybe not having a career year,
10:57or Jalen Lane becoming a star in front of our eyes,
11:01or, you know, Antonio Williams just being better than people might think he is.
11:05I don't think Booty is the slam dunk, you know what you're getting, like a Diggs would be.
11:10If they went out and got Diggs, it's plug and play.
11:12You know exactly what he is, you've seen it for years.
11:15Booty's not that.
11:16So does that make you feel good now?
11:19I mean, is it just narrowly better?
11:20Like, what's your 1-10 feeling on receiver now?
11:24Is it just up one number with Booty?
11:25And if that's the case, is it worth the draft pick?
11:28No, it's a very fair question.
11:29So my view is, I feel like a 3 out of 10 for them in terms of receiver.
11:35That would bump me to a 5.
11:37Okay.
11:38Maybe even a 5.5.
11:40Just because, again, the skill set.
11:41I'm not sitting here telling you that he's, you know, Ricky Sanders or something like that,
11:46you know, but the thing – I think he's one of the things that they lack in spades
11:50is that bigger play-type threat.
11:53But, because I remember the last time that Dalby Brown was here, I'm aware of what happened
11:56in the postseason.
11:57He had some down-the-field stuff.
11:58It was great.
11:59They stopped treating him like a deep threat, and they started throwing him bubble screens
12:03at the line of scrimmage.
12:04They said, you know, you're a deep threat that doesn't get open deep.
12:06We're not going to do that anymore.
12:07We're just going to flip it to you when Zaccheaus is tired and when Jamison Crowder can't go.
12:12Like, that's what they morphed him into his final year here.
12:14And, again, the postseason was a different story, so maybe that's the thing you build on,
12:17not the regular season.
12:18But this dude right now is, I think, just finished his third year.
12:22I think he could really help them with that skill set.
12:24I just love Booty.
12:26And I have, really, since he was drafted, I'm a big booty guy.
12:30You like big booty?
12:32I like booty a ton.
12:33Yeah, I mean, would you say you're a little booty guy or a big booty guy?
12:36I would say I'm a huge booty guy.
12:38I also like Keyshawn Booty.
12:39I don't know if that's what you're talking about.
12:41The player.
12:42Yeah, the player, right.
12:44Grant and Danny on the fan.
12:46We can ask Ben Standing about this coming up in 20 minutes at 6 o'clock.
12:49He covers the commander.
12:50Substack Standing is going to stop by after another practice out at the facility
12:54watching organized team activities.
12:57Next, what Jeff Passan of ESPN said about the Nationals
13:00and what they should be thinking as we close in on the trade deadline in July.
13:04This is the fan.
13:05No.
