00:00It is indeed breaking news. I took the break to make sure that I saw it from who I saw
00:04it from,
00:04and it was indeed Tom Pellicero, now of The Ringer. I think that's what threw me off.
00:08Y'all don't care about none of that. What y'all care about was what he said.
00:10Trade. The Patriots are sending wide receiver Kayshawn Booty to the Houston Texans for
00:17safety, Jalen Reed, and a draft pick. Sources tell The Ringer and Netflix.
00:21So right now, as of right now, we don't know what that draft pick is and how valuable it is,
00:27but Jalen Reed, a promising young safety, ends up going to New England,
00:31and the Texans have a pretty good carve-out of that role that Jaden Higgins was to serve
00:41in Kayshawn Booty. Honestly, probably one of the few dudes in the NFL that has gotten
00:46Derek Stingley in a notable way. We saw that in the divisional round game.
00:51But yeah, this is a big-time move. I see our guy Ocho already coping because he wanted
00:56Darius Slayton Moore saying that this doesn't make a dent. I disagree. I think this makes
01:00a significant dent in what we've been talking about, the absence of Jaden Higgins due to ACL tear.
01:05Oh, I think so as well. When you start looking at the room, you know, foremost, that's a player
01:12that's been there and done that in the postseason. You know, clearly his role was somewhat undefined
01:18in New England because they're kind of a loaded team. It's a team with which, as we all know,
01:24Nick Cacero is very familiar and can do some work with. I think it helps the room immensely
01:30and immediately. You know, he slides right in to where Jaden Higgins was. And I have Jalen Noel
01:36as a number three, perhaps. Xavier Hutchinson as a number three, perhaps. And go from there.
01:39Yeah, I think you can get a little bit closer to sliding guys back into their place. I do think
01:44that what Jalen Noel said today at practice and what the mantra has been still holds, it's still
01:51not a one-person fits that entire role that Jaden Higgins was going to have. But I think
01:55Keishon Booty gives you a little opportunity to, and I got to get more comfortable saying
01:59his name properly because he's going to be here. I think that it gives you an opportunity
02:03to have, yeah, Xavier Hutchinson needs to step up, but it's less of a step up that's necessary
02:08with Booty. Do you have any concern, like this person from the 7-1-3, that the Texans
02:12are falling into that, hey, this player beat us, and so that's why we go get him?
02:17No. Mantra.
02:18No. This is about the window, helping the offense, helping C.J. Stroud. I almost said
02:25Deshaun Watson because he's been on the news so much. Helping C.J. Stroud, helping this
02:29offense, getting the offense to some semblance of good, just because that good is going to
02:35be good enough, you would think, with this defense. And he's still a young player that
02:39actually you have some plans with. It actually kind of also explains why it took so long.
02:46They were probably haggling over what to add in terms of a draft pick, perhaps, or maybe
02:51even the player. Because you know the Texans were immediately burning the phone lines, and
02:57reportedly were burning the phone lines.
02:59As recently as, what, Friday or as early as Friday?
03:01Yeah, as early as Friday. And so this was probably just negotiating. They did bring
03:06in Shepard, and they're trying to get the offense up to snuff. I think this is a really
03:16good thing. It explains why, also, they've been bringing in some DBs as well, some DBs and
03:22wide receivers for their two needs. And I think this is the immediate effect right here.
03:26Yeah, you're mentioning his youth. I do think that this also, and you could say that Reggie's
03:32wrong, it's fine. I think this also is appealing to me in part because it does not stand in
03:39the way of the return of Jayden Higgins. Not that anybody would, but it gets a little
03:43dicey if you had traded for somebody that had a lot more contract. He is kind of a rental,
03:48right? This is the final year of his rookie deal. I imagine if he works really well, maybe
03:52you figure out, or not only if he works really well, depending on what happens with Tank
03:56Dell, it gives you an opportunity to go, do you commit further to Kayshawn Booty or
04:00whatever? But within this trade, it is worth noting that you're giving up the control of
04:05Jalen Reed. I think that some of this is also a vote of confidence toward Kamari Ramsey,
04:11who has played pretty well because I thought Jalen Reed was your next up safety. If Kalen Bullock
04:19missed time, it feels like Jalen Reed was the guy that would get back there. I think that
04:23now that falls to Kamari Ramsey and maybe still MJ Stewart, who you can't forget, is working his
04:28way back from an injury. But I imagine that that then shows a level of confidence in Kamari Ramsey.
04:34Probably Jalen Petrie, I wonder if this isn't some of, I can't imagine they were thinking this far
04:38ahead, but if this isn't helped by Jalen Petrie's ability to play in multiple spots. So I think
04:46with Caleb Bullock, with Reed Blankenship, and then with Jalen Petrie, then also with how Kamari Ramsey
04:52has come along, the fifth round pick from this year, that made it so that they were capable of
04:56moving on from Jalen Reed. I just hope that the additional draft pick that they tacked on wasn't
05:00too large because the Patriots had the Texans with this circumstance, with the timing. I hope they don't
05:07have to pay too much. I hope that it's probably like a day three pick and hopefully a later day
05:11three
05:11pick that they're tagging on to Jalen Reed. I don't think this is a seventh. I don't think
05:15this is a Nick Casario's seventh. Yeah, maybe not a seventh, but could it be like a fifth Jalen
05:19Reed, three years of Jalen Reed for Keishaw Boone? That's what I would guess. And even that might be a
05:23little high. Ultimately, the circumstance, I understand. But it's really, it's simple math.
05:27Where do we have the most good players on defense? Where do we need good players? Offense. Well, let's trade
05:32a
05:32defensive player where we have some depth that is still young, so attractive to the Patriots,
05:37and bring back, you know, a guy that can help our offense. Really good trade. Really good trade.
05:43You know, hat tip to Nick Casario for getting it done because this was, you know, we just had the
05:48discussion about Jalen Noel and such, and I was sitting here going, yeah, I don't know. I don't
05:54know with Jalen Noel, you know, if that's really going to be the number two. Hey, clap it up for
05:58Nick
05:58Casario. It is indeed a seventh rounder. All right. In 2028. Okay. So it's not even an immediate
06:02seventh rounder in the 2027 draft. Yeah, no, this is exactly what I was looking for with
06:08the trade comments. I think this is a good trade. I think Nick Casario does it again where
06:11he's, and I appreciate, again, we talked about this when Jaden Higgins, or at least when we
06:15found out that Jaden Higgins had gotten hurt, it felt like, hey man, this is where Nick Casario's
06:21penchant for being able to make deals needs to show up. And here it is. They go and get a
06:25dude who brings some of those elements, definitely an opportunity to go deep. But then also, he knows
06:31the system. This was going to be a concern with anybody that you bring in is getting up
06:35to speed on this system in particular. It's talked a lot about that. It's a little bit
06:39more. That's a great point. It is good to bring someone in that has a familiarity. Hell, he
06:43might be better with the system than some of the guys that you have in the building right
06:46now because that's fair of a familiarity. So I'm excited to see this. I obviously, you
06:51know me, I'm gonna be a sicko and go dig even deeper into. Yeah, that's right. And watch
06:55the tape, look at some numbers to see how much better. Well, I don't know if I want
07:00to do that. But yeah, I'm excited about this because also it's very clear the Texans were
07:04not settled on the idea of we're going to bring in some guys on the back end of the
07:08roster and we're just going to cobble this together. They were aggressive. Like I said,
07:11we were just talking about that and I don't think you felt great about it either. I'm not
07:14trying to pat myself on the back. We were both kind of like, well, maybe, maybe Xavier
07:18Hutchinson, maybe this, maybe that. Well, now you have an answer and you have the more
07:22depth as well. Shout out to Brandom on the YouTube. They traded the only non-USC
07:26defense. Jalen Reed was a, no, he's a Penn State guy. Yeah. Yeah. They have a type
07:31with various different positions, right? They're like, hey, we're going to get these
07:34USC defensive backs. We're going to get these dudes from Michigan. We're going to
07:37get, yeah, we have, they have types. They have types, but it's, it's okay. Ultimately
07:41the Texans add, if you're just tuning in, the Texans have made a trade to acquire
07:45Kayshawn Booty, a wide receiver from the Patriots. They send second round player Jalen
07:50Reed and a seventh round pick in 2028 for the luxury of the final year of the rookie
07:56contract of Kayshawn Booty. I think that this is, this was a smart move. This is
08:00the player that I, that I looked at and I appreciated the most or I thought would
08:03it would be the best in adding what they're having here. And it is fair to
08:07notice, note that he is younger, as you said, even if you know, it's not guaranteed
08:10that he will remain here, but you're getting a young player. You're getting a
08:13player that has juice in his legs. So I appreciate it.
