Kayshon Boutte back to work at practice?? Is there room for Boutte on this roster? What does Boutte think of his future in New England? Let's hear. Is there a chance Stefon Diggs could be back playing in Foxboro?
Transcript
00:00Well, Greg, Kayshawn Booty has officially spoken.
00:02We've been curious if he'll be holding out with the acquisitions of A.J. Brown and Romeo Dobbs
00:08and him falling kind of down the depth chart a little bit.
00:11Here was what Kayshawn Booty said about appearing at work this week.
00:14And are you going to be at practice Tuesday?
00:16Yeah, yes, sir.
00:17What's a lot of questions about your future?
00:20Obviously, if you don't want to talk about it now, that's cool.
00:22But what do you make of all the rumors out there?
00:24What do you think about your future here in New England?
00:26I try not to buy into it, you know.
00:28At the end of the day, I can control what I can control.
00:30As long as I'm doing it, I'm supposed to do off the field.
00:32Everything else will play out.
00:33All right.
00:34Okay.
00:35Showing up to mandatory minicamp.
00:37That's when them fines start hitting.
00:38Yeah, I mean, he seems like he's the odd man out.
00:43I also, over the weekend, I saw more and more talk about those who think
00:50Steph Diggs will be back with this team.
00:52Yeah, I've been hearing that too.
00:54Well, not hearing, but people asking.
00:55Well, people are saying that if he is willing to take a bit of a discount,
01:03then they would be willing to have him back again.
01:06And so, what?
01:08Well, so, Meggo and I on the Big Dog Marathon show on Saturday talked about this
01:12a little bit.
01:12And I feel like the only avenue for this to come through is if, like,
01:17Diggs is at the point in his career where he's not as concerned about the
01:22contract right now and really wants the Super Bowl.
01:24Yeah, he's got too many kids.
01:25I'm not being flippant.
01:26Like, you need the money.
01:27I mean, he's making plenty of money.
01:29Like, it's not like he's going to be paying for pennies, playing for pennies.
01:32If you have the amount of kids he has, there's never too much money.
01:36He's less than Nick Cannon and Antonio Cromartie.
01:38But when it comes to the latest one, I'm assuming that he probably gets support
01:43from Cardi B.
01:44Oh, yeah.
01:45It's probably the other way around.
01:47What about the others?
01:48She's got more money.
01:49Yeah, I don't think he, like, needs to be cutting her a check for child
01:53support every month.
01:54She's probably good, if anything.
01:56You know, the other, I think he's got four total and the other three, you
01:59know, obviously it's going to, you know, nowadays it'll cost you a pretty
02:03penny.
02:03So, you want to play?
02:04I mean.
02:05They have six.
02:06Who has six?
02:07Steph Diggs.
02:08He has six kids.
02:09Oh, I only knew four.
02:10Would he be okay with a reduced role?
02:13Like, whatever that role is?
02:15Yeah.
02:16I don't know, Wiggy, because, like, he's like got this on this weird cusp that
02:23I feel like you could speak to better than anybody, where it's like, is he
02:28trying to go get a two to three or your contract somewhere?
02:31He'd probably like that.
02:32Or does he accept that he's maybe at the point now where he has to go year
02:36to year with every team that he signs with?
02:38Because if he feels like he's at that point, then I think the Patriots are in
02:42play.
02:42But if he's looking for security anywhere, then he's going to go anywhere else.
02:45Well, yeah, I agree with you, Mago, to that point.
02:48And he probably wants, you know, a two to three year deal.
02:52He's probably going to want a little bit more than that rather than go year to
02:55year.
02:56But I think if the, you know, and maybe you're right, maybe the Patriots are
03:00probably like, all right, we'll do a fake two year deal, but it's really a
03:05one year deal.
03:05And here's where your number is going to be.
03:07He might be like, well, you know, can I get that?
03:10Can I get a better deal from somebody else?
03:12But the problem is, is when, when are we going to see that?
03:16Right.
03:17And so you start to run out of options and you start to get desperate.
03:20And if you're a guy that, you know, and I don't, like I said, I don't know what
03:23he's done with his money.
03:24Maybe he's done great with his money.
03:26And yeah, he has a bunch of kids, but he's got, I think it's odd that he hasn't
03:30signed anywhere yet.
03:30But yeah, you know, and that is, is because you're thinking like, all right, all
03:35the teams kind of figure out where they are right now and that he hasn't signed.
03:39So is it because.
03:40And there's not even whispers of him signing with other teams or even talking to
03:42other teams.
03:43I don't know.
03:44So there was with the commanders and that's about it.
03:46I mean, if we're talking, I don't know what level, if you want to say like the
03:49Schefter level of him putting stuff out there versus if you're on, if you want
03:55whispers, you can find that in any social media.
03:57But to your point, what, what do you think his asking price is that he's telling
04:04these teams?
04:05More guaranteed than he got with the Patriots.
04:07So 26 million was the deal with the Patriots.
04:09And my guess is he wants 30 million guaranteed.
04:11What?
04:12No way he's getting that.
04:13What?
04:13That's insane.
04:14No way.
04:14He had a better season and he was healthy.
04:16No, he's not looking for that.
04:18He was coming off an ACL or whatever the injury he had.
04:20Didn't Jawan Jennings just sign like a month ago for $8 million?
04:24I think, yeah, I think he was the only one.
04:26If the Patriots could get digs for $10 million?
04:29Yep.
04:29I bet that he'll, Curtis, he'll probably be getting somewhere between $10 and $15 million.
04:33I think he's looking up a little bit more from 10.
04:35I think he's somewhere in the world of where I think ideally he'd love to be between 15
04:41and 20.
04:42But I wonder if the league sees him as somewhere between 12 and 16.
04:48I don't know.
04:48There were a lot of people who, at times, last season, really liked his connection with
04:55Shime's guy, Drake May.
04:57So maybe can they find room for him, Wiggy?
05:01And, you know.
05:03Well, generally, most teams keep five wide receivers on the, you know, 53-man roster, right?
05:10Because if it's a team that likes to use two tight ends, maybe you'll only keep four.
05:15But we know that most teams keep five.
05:17And I think the Patriots kept five last year.
05:22It's just I don't really know if you're looking at Romeo Dobbs, you're looking at A.J. Brown,
05:27you're looking at Matt Collins.
05:29Pop Douglas is probably a slot guy.
05:32Still have Kyle Williams.
05:32Still got Kyle Williams.
05:34And Chisholm's a slot guy.
05:35But it's, Booty is mainly a guy that we saw line up outside, you know, outside on the numbers.
05:42And Booty is also the reason Tom didn't text back, if we're being honest.
05:46And so, what's my role potentially going to look like?
05:51Am I going to be a guy who's basically healthy scratches or limited to just special teams?
05:58And Booty's probably looking at it, well, why can't you trade me someplace where I can actually
06:02go and have a real opportunity to play because I'm probably not going to play here?
06:07What's a reasonable expectation that you get back for him?
06:11Sixth.
06:11Sixth if you're lucky.
06:13Pick swap.
06:14Yeah.
06:15I mean, what was he drafted in the fifth of the sixth round himself?
06:18I believe so, yeah.
06:19Yeah, so maybe a sixth or seventh round pick.
06:21If not, if I'm Booty, I'd say, hey, listen, trade me or just cut me.
06:28Don't keep me around because they're not helping him.
06:31And the organization, and that's the one thing I don't like.
06:34If you know you're going to cut a guy, don't just keep him around for a camp body and then
06:38cut him during training camp.
06:39Cut him now.
06:40Let him go someplace where he can learn a potentially a new playbook and have a real opportunity
06:44to make that team.
06:46And Christian Gonzalez, in your mind, not participating at all in camp-wise?
06:52I would not, even though, you know, even though it might cost you, you know, a little bit
06:56over $100,000, whatever the fines are nowadays, for missing minicamp, I do not care.
07:02I do not.
07:02If I'm his agent, don't go out there and don't do anything.
07:07You can be at practice.
07:08You can be in the meeting rooms.
07:11Don't do anything when it comes to physically having to run, doing any routes or not routes,
07:18but any type of practicing, I would not, I'd tell him don't do anything.
07:22Yeah, I think he'll be at minicamp and then he'll go on down to the lower field or whatever
07:28where you assume people are rehabbing injuries and it'll be that hold-in scenario.
07:34What I would do.
07:35I would not, you know, and I still, we always have this conversation.
07:39I don't know what the Patriots are waiting for.
07:42But what if the Patriots are worried if in training camp someone goes down and you have
07:47Booty here who knows the offense and like, what's more valuable?
07:50Yeah, but now he's a camp body.
07:52So all you're doing is hurting Booty.
07:54What?
07:55He's a camp body.
07:56Well, Booty doesn't have a choice.
07:58I mean, he cannot show up.
07:59Yeah, right, but that's, and that I think sucks for a player, right?
08:01If you're going to do solid by the player.
08:03Yeah, if you're going to, if you're not.
08:04Well, he didn't do solid by you.
08:05He was in Miami Beach.
08:07Yeah, but if, because he knows.
08:08Yeah, and he knows that.
08:10Matt Collins wasn't there, sir.
08:11Well, he doesn't wear shoes.
08:12And he knows that you're, that you want to move on from him, right?
08:16He knows that he's not going to have a real opportunity.
08:18But if somebody goes down, he'll have an opportunity.
08:20Right, but what if somebody doesn't go down?
08:22I don't care about Booty's feelings.
08:23I care about the Patriots being good.
08:25And I think the best thing for them to do is just hold on to him.
08:27I don't care about a sixth round pick.
08:29Yeah, see, I think that it's wrong.
08:32And I would, I would, I think it's wrong for you to do that to a player.
08:37I mean, they did it with Kendrick Bourne, with Jalen Polk.
08:39Like, they did this with a bunch of receivers last year, too.
08:42They just released them at the end of training camp.
08:44Yeah, and I don't like that.
08:45I think if you're, if you know that you don't want this guy, let him go so he has an
08:49opportunity
08:50to get with another team before training camp and realistically have a real chance of making that team.
08:57But if somebody gets hurt and you reach out to him on the phone, what would that be called?
09:04A Booty call.
09:05Yes, okay, correct.
09:06Well, that's different.
09:07I hear.
09:07You know, that would be, you have Kyle Williams there.
09:10So if somebody gets hurt, Kyle Williams next man up.
09:13You got, you got, there's other guys that you probably are signing as, you know, undrafted free agents.
09:19Because they didn't draft anybody, Shyam, right, as a wide receiver?
09:22No, they did not draft.
09:22So they probably signed a couple undrafted free agent guys.
09:25So there are guys there now.
09:27If somebody gets hurt, you elevate them.
09:30What?
09:31Because do you think Booty, if he stays all the way through training camp, think he's making this team?
09:37I don't know.
09:39If he had a bet on it.
09:41Probably unlikely.
09:42Right.
09:42Well, where's he lining up?
09:44Let's say he's lining up outside the numbers.
09:48So probably, he's probably not going to make the team.
09:51The X, the Z, vertical route.
09:53And if I'm Mike Vrabel, as a guy who played and understood what that life was like, I would be
10:01like, here, Keyshawn, we're going to try to trade you.
10:04If we can't, we're going to release you.
10:06It's hilarious to me that prior to the A.J. Brown trade, I remember very early in the offseason, people
10:12were like, yeah, don't worry.
10:12Booty's going to be like a 1,200-yard receiver playing opposite Romeo Dobbs next year.
10:16And now he's probably not even going to be on the team.
10:18Multiple people on the text line during our weekend shows.
10:21Oh, well, the pack needs to bring it up a different level than that because that's crazy.
10:26Insane.
10:27And I understand Booty.
10:28He did make some great catches when you needed him.
10:31Absolutely.
10:32He had his moments, but he's not.
10:33That catch in the Texans game in the playoffs.
10:35He's like a 600-yard receiver.
10:37Right.
10:38He's a Matt Collins type.
10:40And don't you think, in his mind, he would be perfect on another team where he could really show his
10:47skills and show that he could do it?
10:49But do you think he's helping himself this offseason?
10:51And if he does indeed want to play ball and try and get to a team that's not the Patriots,
10:56why wouldn't you show up to voluntary workouts?
10:59Because they're voluntary?
11:00Yeah, because if he shows up tomorrow, that's all that matters.
11:02Yeah.
11:02It means he showed up for practice.
11:03Do you think they could package him with something else to get another tight end in?
11:08That'd be nice.
11:09I mean, you probably could.
11:10I would package him, and I think Sean made this point last week, package him with a couple draft picks
11:18to the Giants for, like, Kayvon Thibodeau.
11:21Right?
11:22The Giants, they signed Odell Beckham Jr., who's been out of the league for, like, maybe two years.
11:28Malik Neighbors is still coming off that injury.
11:31They lost Wandale Robinson.
11:33Yeah, so, I mean, you might—
11:35Jackson Dart is tearing apart the locker room.
11:37Yeah, I mean, that's what I would do.
11:39That was a joke.
11:39I know, I know.
11:40I know that was a joke, but that's what I would do.
11:41I just think that, you know, Vrabel, he would know better as a former player.
11:46I have a little hopper.
11:46We'll get started.
