Which option would you like for the Tigers the most?
Transcript
00:00Welcome back to the Carson Anderson program here on 97.1.
00:03Taking calls and texts at 248-539-9797.
00:07Doug was in mid-chug.
00:09The band was taking the day off.
00:12Take five, guys.
00:15You're right.
00:16Triumph is better than Rush.
00:17Totally.
00:19Kind of a rough beginning to the noon hour.
00:21Triumph is just better.
00:22Those are facts.
00:23Is it?
00:25I mean, in my mind.
00:27That's what's great about music.
00:28It's subjective.
00:29Did you get the Twitch feed up in front of you by chance?
00:31Twitch, yes.
00:32Yeah.
00:32Okay.
00:33So I want you to click on a link that Bear Slays just sent over.
00:37And tell me what you see when you click on it.
00:42Because it's very well played.
00:44Whoever put this together.
00:48Just sent.
00:49Like the last five or six points.
00:51What are you looking at?
00:53So it's the Madden cover with Caleb Williams doing the jump throw.
00:57Just like the Madden cover.
00:58With a very industrial background of what looks to be Hammond, Indiana.
01:04Instead of what the Madden cover actually has, which is the Chicago skyline in the background.
01:10Somebody has put together the image.
01:12And I don't know if it was Bear Slays himself.
01:14Of the Madden cover with the industrial wasteland that is Hammond, Indiana in the background.
01:20Bravo.
01:21Well played.
01:22Bravo.
01:23Quickly turning into one of my favorite stories in sports.
01:26The Chicago Bears might accidentally move to Hammond, Indiana.
01:30All right.
01:30Let's get to this.
01:32Our baseball team.
01:35The two-game winning streak doesn't really change what is the probable outcome of what's going to happen here.
01:39And that is being sellers.
01:40There's come the trade deadline.
01:43And it was good to see Gleyber Torres come back as a high probable trade candidate.
01:47Come back and hit a home run in his first at bat.
01:51Lance Bresdowski of MLB Network put together three possible trades here for the Detroit Tigers.
01:58And so, Scott, I want you to bring up the Dodgers prospect rankings.
02:04And as you do that, Bresdowski had this to say about a possible deal that the Dodgers could put together
02:14for Tarek Skubel.
02:43Okay, which begs the question, then why did they need Skubel?
02:46But obviously, they would take a Skubel over a AAA guy.
02:51But Sirota is the number 41 prospect in the game.
02:54He's in Tulsa.
02:56And River Ryan is in AAA.
02:59Tulsa's AA.
03:00AAA is Albuquerque still for the Dodgers, I think.
03:02Um, the number 79 prospect in the game.
03:06What would you think of those two players back for, uh, Tarek Skubel?
03:09I've been, uh, pretty high in Mike Sirota.
03:11You and I have had conversations during commercial breaks and whatnot.
03:14And, and I like him.
03:16Um, he's 22 years old, right-handed, 6'2".
03:22Um, and this year, what I, what stands out, what jumps out at you is the on-base percentage.
03:31It's 484.
03:33This is a guy who's hitting 331, but it's 150 points higher than his batting average.
03:38His OPS is over 1,000.
03:40Um, he's driven in a bunch of runs, but it's 45 walks in 47 games.
03:46It's 49 strikeouts, too.
03:48So there's a fair amount of strikeouts.
03:49But he's walking just as much.
03:52I, I, I like those numbers.
03:54Those are, those are pretty good.
03:55But it's just numbers.
03:55I've never seen the guy play.
03:57No, I mean, what, he seems to fit more of the Tigers profile of they, they appreciate a player who
04:03can, who can get a bunch of walks.
04:05The strikeouts they probably don't love.
04:06But at the end of the day, I think this is a player that, that more fits the profile of
04:10the other four outfielders that they have in the baseball's top 100 prospects.
04:15By scouting numbers, he's, uh, an above, he's got above average hit power arm fielding ability.
04:23And his run tool, if you will, is even higher than that.
04:27So, though maybe not this major base dealer, he runs very well.
04:31There's a lot to like with Sirota.
04:32When it comes with the, the, the four top Dodger prospects that are all outfielders, he's the one that kind
04:38of look at and go, I like this guy.
04:40Particularly if, if say their number one prospect is, is off the table, which a lot of people think, why
04:44would it seem to give you a number one prospect for a rental?
04:46Okay.
04:47But the Dodgers have so many top prospects that I can look elsewhere.
04:52I like Sirota river Ryan is interesting.
04:55He's 27 and you know, but he's been hurt.
04:59He's gotten injured and throughout his career.
05:02Um, but he is, as the reporter said there, he's dealing, um, you know, two four, five earned run average.
05:08He only made five starts this year, but it's 29 strikeouts in the 22 innings against just three walks.
05:15That's a, that's pretty good numbers too, but he pitched in the majors, uh, back in 2024.
05:20So that can be a package of players or two players to get back from the Dodgers.
05:24The Yankees are next up.
05:26And here's what he had to say about the possibility of a Yankee package of players that could land Tarek
05:32Skubel.
05:45Okay.
05:46Okay.
06:00Just so you understood what he said there.
06:02Cause he kind of went through those quickly.
06:04Uh, Elmer Rodriguez, the number 62 prospect in baseball pitcher.
06:08Dax Kilby is a shortstop down in rookie ball.
06:11Who's hurt.
06:11He's a number 69 prospect in baseball and Ben Hess, a right-hand pitcher.
06:15Who's in double a, uh, Gator of those guys.
06:19Does anybody, does it, does that package of players intrigue you?
06:23Well, it's intriguing with Elmer Rodriguez.
06:25Cause he's just now reached the major league level, uh, big right-handed pitcher, six foot
06:29four, uh, Ben Hess also big at six foot five and he's big 255 pounds.
06:35Dax Kilby.
06:36If he likes Dax Kilby the best out of those guys, the problem with Dax Kilby is he's, he's
06:40at rookie league so far away.
06:41He's so far away.
06:43And, but if you were to package that with, you know, a couple of arms, is it more intriguing?
06:47Yeah, it is.
06:48Um, and we know that the Tigers organization doesn't necessarily have a ton of high end
06:54pitching talent, but what they do have is Jackson Jobe coming back.
06:59We have high hopes for, uh, Jake Miller just started pitching again, I think last night.
07:03So that that's good news there, but that's still a ways away.
07:06I, I don't know, I'm, I'm intrigued by guys that are ready to contribute now, but more
07:11so position players that are ready to contribute now, not necessarily the, the pitchers, but
07:15it's, it's, it's a fair, fair exchange of players.
07:19Okay.
07:19Next up the Brewers.
07:20He puts together that Brewers are a team that seems to be gaining momentum and more and
07:23more people are writing and talking about the Brewers as the MLB insider, Lance Borowski
07:30on the MLB network said, here's what he would put together from Milwaukee to Detroit for
07:35Tarek Schuble.
08:05Okay.
08:06I got to clear something up.
08:07Cause he didn't, he had the name on the graphic, but didn't say him.
08:10Jet Williams was the name, the number 59 prospect in the game.
08:14He is a shortstop, third baseman outfielder.
08:16Obviously some position versatility there in the Brewers organization, 59 prospect in the
08:21game.
08:22Luis Lara is an outfielder, 93 best prospect in major league baseball ball.
08:27And the right hand pitcher, he mentioned a double A is Bishop Letson.
08:31And does this package of players interest you?
08:34Well, Luis Lara, when you look at his numbers, they're very impressive.
08:37Uh, and his on base percentage is fantastic.
08:39He draws a ton of walks and, and so does Jet Williams draws a fair amount of walks too,
08:44but not like Luis Lara.
08:45But what really stands about Luis Lara is that he's five foot seven and 170 pounds.
08:51Um, is that, is that too small?
08:55Not if he's able to deliver.
08:56I mean, and he's done it at, at the triple A level.
09:00He's played very well to this point.
09:02Um, three 38 batting average this year, a four 47 on base percentage.
09:07And he's, he's hit seven home runs to go with eight doubles and a couple of triples all
09:11the while stealing 18 bases.
09:13And there's a lot to like.
09:14There's a very toolsy there, if you will.
09:17Um, that being said, I still like the Dodgers package better.
09:21Well, I tell you what, our guy, uh, from MLB network, Lance Brodkowski has an opinion
09:26on which one of those would be the best package for the Tigers to accept.
09:29We'll tell you which one he likes the most coming up today at 12 18.
09:34And then another major league baseball insider sounds off on Scooble.
09:38And the latest is this is going to be one of the big storylines of the summer.
09:42And no, a two game winning streak probably doesn't dramatically shift the Detroit
09:46Tigers focus, uh, when it comes to the trade deadline, two, four, eight, five, three, nine,
09:5197, 97.
09:52We will get to who, uh, which deal the Tigers, he thinks the Tigers should make.
09:56And we'll have something else Gator that I think is right up your alley in terms of
10:01a Scooble trade, uh, and that coming up again next.
10:05Hey.
10:05Hey.
