00:00uh the story was put together on espn and there's so much detroit-centric reporting today
00:05from national writers whether it be pistons and the nba stuff with the draft on tuesday and the
00:10probability of them making moves uh and the tigers with scuba coming back has rekindled all kinds of
00:18speculation the two reporters for espn that put together the list of the most highly um ranking
00:25the top 2026 mlb trade deadline candidates google's listed as number one the story is done by jeff
00:30passan of course major league baseball insider and kylie mcdaniel kylie mcdaniel at espn is their
00:37writer who covers prospects the drafts trades and free agency so doesn't cover a team doesn't really
00:45even really seem to cover the games just covers all the prospects are just stuff that pertains to
00:52trade deadline stuff here's what they write in the scuba the buzz and they talk about scuba he's
00:57back and uh concerns are alleviated uh after one start how much they can be alleviated after one
01:03start but they are near the end this is what they say the tigers will squeeze every ounce of value
01:12out
01:12of the best pitcher in the world he is the dream deadline candidate the sort of ace who can carry
01:18a team in the postseason whoever lands scuba will pay an enormous price happily
01:28now we always try and keep guardrails up to not be unrealistic because what happens is we start
01:37coming up and we we do this and we're guilty of it we try not to be but you start
01:40coming up with
01:41these dream trades okay that can oftentimes get steeped in fantasy and you have to be careful
01:50and guard against that because then you start creating an unrealistic expectation and yet when
01:58national writers are saying whoever lands scuba will pay an enormous price happily like passing's
02:05talking to people in the league i don't know how much kyla mcdaniel is but that would be for those
02:13that want him traded that's what you hope that it is for an enormous price even though it's just a
02:21rental even though it's just to get you through the rest of the season but you have to figure that
02:26a
02:26team that wants tarik scuba thinks if we make this trade we're winning the world series and so let's
02:37pay the price yeah and if things don't get better for this team over the next three weeks like if
02:46they
02:46don't make up any ground they just keep if they get your 500 ball then then uh you're going to
02:53see
02:53other names added to this list too and you know let's let's let's just hope that glaber torres at
02:58this oblique stream that he's got is nothing serious and he's going to come back to the lineup by the
03:02end
03:02of the week let's hope that's the case probably not but we'll see if he dies and he shows that
03:09he's
03:09healthy and i mean this he's a free agent at the end of the season that's another guy that can
03:13go
03:14and if you look at a team like the dodgers that could use a second baseman and could use
03:22terrick scuba you know you're already thinking about the moon and the stars for for school and
03:29the dodgers are the organization that has i mean they are flooded with outfield talent that's blocked
03:35that is completely blocked at the major league level yep but they they have the literally their
03:40their rankings in their own system the number one two three four seven and ten players one two three
03:49four seven six of their top ten are outfielders and they've got three or four of them are at double
03:55a you know these guys are ready to go you could probably land two of those guys and then go
04:01a
04:01little bit deeper in their prospect pool pluck a pitcher and something else that you want and if
04:05you're going to throw glaber torres in the mix too if he's healthy by the time this comes around
04:11you could really raid the dodgers system and do something special well we'll get to more of the
04:17glaber details coming up let's get to your phone calls bills in ferndale what's up bill
04:22i i love the scoobal talk i am personally hoping we can keep him and i thought i heard that
04:28illich said
04:29hey i am going to make a run at this guy and i just want your opinion would you trade
04:33framber if
04:34he pitches well and put all that money we put into framber into scoobal that's interesting you know
04:40um it is an interesting thought i don't know i don't expect this to be a road they go down
04:48um and and something that they pursue but if illich
04:56if illich goes against what all the reporting is and and really because i feel like the tigers
05:05to get scoobal to agree to a contract i think it's going to have to be absurd
05:10and the reason is because boris wants a bidding war between major market teams
05:19and for them to pass on that bidding war i feel like the tigers would have to you know go
05:25seven years 450 million like something that just exceeds what what people have even speculated he'd get
05:35i mean think about scott boris saying actually let's just take that what would it take to get
05:41boris to say that i think your number is a great one doug and i think that with the number
05:48you put
05:48out there it billich says guess what my team is worth way more with scoobal i the value of the
05:55tigers
05:55is so much better and when he went out on our you know the injury our team went in the
06:00tank it's a
06:01morale killer if we trade him and don't get anything good back it's another morale killer
06:06and now we're looking at a rebuild we're not looking at a obviously your strategy if you trade
06:11him is not to trade him and not get anything good back like you're not going to be you if
06:15you make
06:15it away um but i i just threw a number out there that was north of 64 million a year
06:21over seven years
06:22but but again you've got to rattle cages to get boris to even blink don't you and so i i
06:29don't i don't
06:30hate what you're talking about i'd rather have scoobal than framber this idea is interesting i ever
06:35thought of of the idea of trading framber valdez but that clears 40 million off your your payroll um
06:42and he's only signed for a couple more years and then you get he's got player options on that so
06:46it's interesting the but my thoughts with scoobal also is it you can if you want to if you want
06:55to
06:55have them if you want to bid on them in free agency you can't but you can also trade them
06:59and still
06:59trade them and still bid on them yeah that rarely happens it happened with flarity happened here every
07:04single time a free agent to be gets traded it gets discussed that the team that's trading them
07:08hey you can go back and get them again it's just you could sign them in the offseason but it's
07:12it's
07:12it's a conversation you have with that player you know personally and you say look we gotta do what's
07:17best for the team what's best for the team is to move you right now what's also best for the
07:22team is
07:22to try to get you in the offseason we don't want to do this but we feel like we have
07:26to do this now
07:27what we really want to do is kind of regroup here and compete again next year and you're a big
07:33part of
07:33that we want you here big fella but for the meantime we're willing to send you to a contender so
07:38you can
07:39win right now or have a chance to win right now and then we'll have a discussion in in december
07:44about
07:44you know a big contract and bringing it back i don't have any problem with that let's go to cole
07:50next on 97 one hello cole hello hey uh i just don't see how we can keep uh scoobal and
08:01continue to be
08:03successful what if i what if i told you that the pitching staff is is really good like the starting
08:12pitching staff is really good and that they can absorb losing look you're losing a cy young ward
08:16winner right i'm not gonna you know go crazy about the my theory here but i'm just saying that i
08:21think
08:21that this team can absorb it to the extent where they can still be competitive and perhaps make a run
08:27at the wild card spot i don't think this team is winning the world series with or without scoobal
08:31but yeah i guess cole i'm a little i'm a little when you say can't continue to be successful are
08:37you
08:37talking about this year or are you talking about long term well i think the long term move is
08:43definitely to move scoobal and i don't think we can pay him enough in off season to keep him
08:49so moving him right now just makes or at least at the trade deadline makes sense because you need
08:55to bolster this team a little bit i don't think you're going to win this year i don't even think
08:59we're going to contend in the division this year i don't think the guardians and the white socks are
09:03looking really good right now and looking really solid so cole i guess if they get to the trade
09:08deadline and aren't within striking distance it's an extraordinarily easy decision to make right
09:14yeah the only thing yeah the only thing that makes this makes this like much of a question is if
09:23the
09:23tigers get get pretty hot and and get close to 500 and are you know four or five games out
09:30in the
09:30division and if they're four or five games out in the division they're probably firmly back in the
09:33wild card chase but their play has to dictate them not trading scoobal and that story is going to play
09:39itself out over the next month and a half here right yeah and i think in my mind the only
09:46the only
09:47way that that they're playing can change my mind about scoobal is if they legitimately are contending
09:54for the division yep and i mean that the the term legitimate i guess could be debated what makes you
09:59legitimately contending for the division but well i mean it starts tonight with a casey my start he's
10:04coming back off the the list and he's got to show that he's ready to go because he's been pitching
10:08so
10:08well this year prove me right this story though with scoobal where they say whoever ran scoobal pay an
10:15enormous price happily is really tempting from a seller's perspective 97 one
