00:44why it would appear the rams are going for it and the odds makers have certainly agreed they are now
00:51plus 550 to win the super bowl so imagine that the rams who drafted a quarterback in the offseason

05:18explosion against the giants it's like this feel as a group when everyone is contributing right

05:48to whom jacob de grom one day could get enshrined in cooperstown but if he does he'll have probably

06:10career number 100 certainly ain't what it used to be but de grom certainly should be applauded for that

08:28prediction markets where the stories tell themselves as they say each and every week but i would encourage

08:38and we've got three stories to talk about so let's dive right in the latest impropriety comes on the
08:44heels of a prediction market story that you wrote about that has to do with google things that are
08:49searched online can be predicted over on polymarket so naturally an insider got involved in this dustin and
08:57try to profit off of it right now it's pretty much every week there's an insider trading case right
09:04well and some would argue this is good we're catching people but some are like why are there
09:09why is there so much insider trading going on prediction markets this case so at calci and poly
09:14market and other prediction markets you could uh trade slash bet on things about the year in search
09:20at google like who is the most searched celebrity what is the most searched word etc etc you can
09:25so you can trade on this um and this this particular instance happened at polymarket but
09:31so a google employee actually allegedly and we'll say we'll put allegedly in there uh did this at poly
09:38market you like used internal tools to like learn what was going to be announced as the most searched
09:44things at google and then won more than a million dollars trading at polymarket on this uh that we
09:50we are the reason we know this because uh the u.s attorney in new york brought uh brought a
09:55complaint
09:55against this employee who lives in switzerland um and you know now we have a big mess uh again i
10:02what i
10:02question is why are we betting on this this is not like you're not predicting it right the answer exists
10:08like and there's like a lot of things there's this information exists in the world it's like survivor
10:13that we talked about recently as well the information exists and somebody has it and it's only valuable
10:18because there are things there's a way to trade on it at a prediction market so it's a wild story
10:24um
10:24and you know people on both sides will will point to this as oh bad things are happening in prediction
10:30markets prediction markets say or look hey we're stopping this we're catching these people and you
10:34know they're they're going to go to jail or or pay fines or what have you if they get caught
10:39so you
10:39know it's the truth like a lot of things is somewhere in the middle but you know this like we
10:44don't need
10:44to treat on google search stuff this isn't like something valuable in the world like the fed interest
10:48rate or elections like this is for speculation and you know in this instance somebody was again
10:54allegedly insider trading on it almost certainly insider trading on uh you know proprietary information
10:59he had from working at google yeah definitely so we'll see what dustin has for us next week the
11:05weather sports politics probably some award show of some kind but anyway prediction markets are going
11:12nowhere at least for the time being it would appear the president is backing prediction markets
11:17up with the cftc and if this is the case dustin several years away from really anything happening
11:23i think substantially although you would say dustin that state by state is a little bit different than
11:28national states could get potentially more involved as we as we've seen yeah uh president trump uh
11:35posts a lot of things on true social his social media platform but one of the things he he posted
11:40this week was about i mean last week was about prediction markets and he says it is critically
11:45important that the cftc's exclusive authority over prediction markets is maintained and that they will
11:50thrive under my leadership we are setting rules of the road that are gold standard for the states we
11:55cannot have scum in all caps like chris christie letitia james tim walton jb pritzker setting the rules um
12:01so this is obviously unmitigated support for prediction markets it's interesting because just a month ago i'm
12:06sure we talked about this he was doing a press conference and said you know unfortunately the
12:10whole world has somewhat become a casino and not really much in favor of prediction markets this was
12:15after um after some of the other insider trading cases came out and he's having to deal with that
12:20um obviously someone said hey look uh you know we're the cftc we really like we we run the cftc
12:26we
12:26really like prediction markets we want them to grow donald trump jr is of course an advisor to both
12:31polymarket and calci so this but it underlines like this is not going away under the trump
12:36administration the trump administration is going to support this this is just you know more weight
12:41on the scale that president trump is you know not going to sign a bill probably that's going to reign
12:45in prediction markets he's certainly not going to have the cftc reign in sports event contracts or
12:50or any of this but but you are right in the grand scheme of things this is not going to
12:55really
12:55change the dynamic between the states and and the federal government the states don't want
13:00prediction markets they think it's sports gambling they think it exists outside of their laws and
13:05the cftc and federal government are saying this is this is under our purview we're in charge trump
13:09is agreeing with that and um you know we're this is going to be tied up in the courts for
13:14another
13:14year or two at least and it will get to supreme court so what president trump says is interesting
13:19slash material but it doesn't mean that you know that prediction markets are here to forever and ever
13:25this is just weight on the scale yeah and and certainly states you could understand their plight
13:30here is you know they're getting paid from draft kings and fanduels sports betting operation but not
13:36from their prediction market operation and they are the same company crazy anyway let's continue and get to
13:43the sports bar that essentially is saying that if you come and the knicks win in new york we're going
13:52to pay
13:52for your tab but not so fast here dustin because seems like there could be a hedge involved
13:58yeah this is fascinating that so this bar the jeffrey it's i think it's on the upper east side
14:03in new york is was yeah promoting that they're the if you hundred dollars free beer and food uh if
14:09you
14:09if the knicks win um but he's using and went on social media to promote this calci to hedge that
14:16promotion by betting on the knicks so if the knicks win he will win some money by his his head
14:21slash bet on
14:22calci um and you know good pr for him good pr for calci which is trying to get to prove
14:28that sports
14:28event contracts have utility in the real world besides you and me craig going on there and gambling
14:33on the on who's going to win the the game one of the of the finals but it's interesting um
14:39it's it's
14:39fascinating to me i'm sure you are well aware of and remember mattress mac uh who really was doing
14:45this exact same thing yeah over the past decade we've had mattress mac betting on you know houston
14:51astros what he really was doing was hedging his furniture promotions it's uh we've all we've come
14:57full circle craig it's it's wild because yeah i always said like mac wasn't betting on things he
15:02would bet on the astros to win but he would give away a bunch of furniture if the astros won
15:06the world
15:06series so again mac was kind of winning either way he'd either sell a lot of furniture or he would
15:12uh
15:13win his win his astros bet so um it's fascinating like this started like 2017 before we even had
15:18legalized sports betting outside of las vegas he was going to vegas and placing bets uh to hedge
15:22these furniture promotions so this is an example of that it's you know it's definitely a real world case
15:27the interesting thing is if you're actually going to hedge if you're a restaurant or bar and not
15:31create a promotion you'd be like i think you'd be betting against your team uh you'd be betting
15:35against the spurs because you'd get less fruit foot traffic you'd be selling less beer we'll see uh but
