00:00Hello there, my very good friends. On today's wrestling news, is Triple H's creative peak over?
00:05Can a world heavyweight champion become number one contender? Watch me.
00:08It's WWE, mate. We've got a big personnel change that was almost in the works for Clash in Italy.
00:13And there were lots of big discussions around Sol Ruka and Becky Lynch's match on that show as well.
00:17I'm Andy H. Murray. The HTA stands for, hey, Tyler Fletcher seems like a nice lad. Leave him alone.
00:22Yeah, and I'm Michael Hanford and I share that sentiment.
00:25Yeah, yeah. Who did you think would have been a more appropriate replacement for Billy Gilmore in the Scotland?
00:29Maybe Lennon Miller? Maybe Conor Barron?
00:33I'll keep it in the family and say his brother, of course. Carl Fletcher of Harchester United.
00:37Yeah, a Kyle Fletcher of AEW as well.
00:40Oh, him as well.
00:40Yeah, famously Scottish, of course.
00:42Right, let's kick this one off by more of an editorial than a news story.
00:46But, lads, it's a slow news day, so let's talk about Clash in Italy a little bit.
00:50Let's talk specifically about some of the creative choices that were made on this show
00:53because it feels like increasingly people are more willing to voice their concerns
00:59about online and in various other spaces about their creative misgivings with WWE
01:05and with Triple H in particular to an extent that I think it's a worthy conversation to have
01:11to talk about boom periods, which this obviously was at one point.
01:16And this still isn't a business sense in terms of the money they're bringing in and stuff like that.
01:20But creative is what we're here to talk about.
01:22And when you have your head of creative talking before the show about changing the landscape of WWE,
01:29which, I mean, to be fair, he does before every PLE, to the point where it's just like,
01:33ah, it's just a thing he says.
01:34Yeah.
01:35I would say this is actually worse than Tony Khan's huge announcements back in the day at this stage.
01:40But change the landscape of WWE.
01:42Well, in this case, I think he was probably talking about somebody getting busy on the rooftop garden
01:46in Stanford, Connecticut, because no landscapes were gardened here, I don't think.
01:51Run through the card.
01:52I'll just talk about some of the creative choices that seem to have annoyed the most people.
01:56Yeah.
01:56And if there's some that we forgot, let us know.
01:59So, Cody Rhodes defeats Gunther in the WWE title opener, though Gunther's foot was under the ropes.
02:05Cody missed it, the referee missed it, but it led to an immediate sort of argument about the fact that,
02:10you know, Gunther was unfairly beaten and a rematch was talked about.
02:15Rhea Ripley defeated Jade Cargill in a WrestleMania rematch.
02:19Rhea Ripley had the help of Charlotte Flair,
02:21while Jade Cargill had the help, in inverted commas, of B-Fab and Meechan.
02:27They were trying to mirror the rope, the leg on the rope.
02:30Foot on the rope stuff, second match in a row, bad agenting.
02:35Brock Lesnar defeated Oberfemi in a WrestleMania rematch,
02:40which I think a lot of people predicted once the match was hastily rearranged
02:43following Brock Lesnar's retirement at WrestleMania,
02:46leading obviously lots of speculation about what might happen in terms of a trilogy
02:50in a match down the road and all that kind of thing.
02:52He did attack Ober right as the bell rung from behind,
02:55hit him with four F5s and a Kimura that Ober survived
02:58and looked like he was going to survive everything,
03:00but Brock, one more F5, got it done after the big horse battle.
03:03I think it was seven in the end, wasn't it?
03:04It was a seven altogether.
03:06Very familiar.
03:07That's right, because he did him through the table for a count out and Oberfemi still survived that,
03:11got him back in the ring.
03:12It was the very Brock Lesnar formula that we kind of grew to know, love,
03:17and then get a little bit tired of as the years passed.
03:18Sure.
03:20The main event was Roman Reigns versus Jacob Fatou,
03:24where Jacob Fatou had to acknowledge Roman Reigns and join the bloodline if he lost.
03:28This was fought under tribal combat,
03:30which basically means a hardcore match,
03:32but between big Samoan wrestlers,
03:34which is exactly how it played out.
03:36And then there's a match,
03:37which we'll go into a little bit more detail of in another story,
03:38for the Intercontinental title,
03:40where Saul Ruka became IC champion,
03:42defeating Becky Lynch with the Soul Snatcher.
03:43I think that's the only,
03:44that match is probably the only one
03:46where I haven't seen too many people complaining about it,
03:48because it was just like,
03:49it was good.
03:50I think quality-wise,
03:52Rhea versus Jade was probably the best match on the show for me.
03:55But it's the creative we're kind of here to talk about,
03:57and it's kind of like the,
03:59the overall reliance on these tropes is just,
04:02it really does,
04:03and this is such a cursed comparison,
04:05but it really does feel like late 2010s periods,
04:08where there's no conviction in any of the decisions that are made.
04:12There's no,
04:13it feels like often Triple H is going into these shows going,
04:16oh, well,
04:16this guy can't lose,
04:18and this person can't lose,
04:19so they need an asterisk so that we can get to the next point.
04:22Whereas,
04:22actually,
04:23if you just told a story from bell to bell,
04:27anyone could,
04:27almost anyone can lose almost any match,
04:30if you tell it the right way.
04:31Be it a case of maybe the in-match story is someone tweaks a knee,
04:38and the injury is attacked or whatever,
04:40or maybe they get overwhelmed at some point,
04:42maybe they make a mistake.
04:43There's always ways to do it.
04:45Without over-relying on doing the same kind of idea
04:50with the under and on the ropes two matches in a row,
04:53without doing the myriad interferences,
04:55where we're teasing MFT versus Bloodline in Big 26 again,
05:03after the real,
05:04what I thought was a really undermining of Jacob Fatu in that solo feud with,
05:10before he took his time off for the dental work and all of that stuff.
05:14It's just hard to come away feeling like Triple H still has the fastball
05:20on shows like this.
05:22If it was just one match or whatever,
05:24you'd just go,
05:25ah, whatever, sure.
05:26And if it was just one show even as well,
05:28you'd go,
05:28ah, whatever, sure.
05:29But the fact is,
05:31more and more of these complaints come out after each PLE.
05:34I think people are getting more comfortable with criticising the bloke.
05:37Whether you agree with the criticisms or not,
05:39that's entirely up to you.
05:40It's all subjective.
05:40You can like whatever you like,
05:42and you can hate whatever you hate.
05:44It's all good.
05:45It's all good.
05:47But it happens over and over again.
05:48For me, the most galling decision here is Brock and Oba for me.
05:52Totally agree.
05:53Said that in the predictions video.
05:54Said that on the news.
05:56You want to get to a trilogy?
05:58Sure.
06:00Whatever.
06:01I think the more compelling version of this would be to just book with balls.
06:04Book with conviction, right?
06:06Don't immediately undermine the incredible booking of WrestleMania.
06:09I thought that was an incredibly well-booked match when Oba Femi beat Brock.
06:12Because it was so shocking.
06:15He immediately undermined that.
06:16Yeah, it was seven F5s or however many it was.
06:19And yeah, it's Brock Lesnar.
06:19Look, he's one of the most dominant wrestlers ever.
06:22And in kayfabe, there's no real shame in losing to him.
06:24But you had just such a good opportunity to break your usual formats.
06:28And if you're going to do the rematch,
06:29just have Oba Femi go over again, man.
06:31Like, make it super emphatic.
06:33Everybody knows Brock is on the downswing of his career.
06:36I don't see why you need to fart around with rematches
06:39and trilogies and Big 26.
06:42It's a shame.
06:43I want to be electrified when this is the...
06:46How many hours of our week are spent watching this stuff?
06:48I want to be electrified.
06:49I want to be interested.
06:50I want to go...
06:52You know, sometimes in wrestling,
06:54most times I would say in wrestling,
06:55the most predictable option is usually the right option.
06:58But in this case, it's just, man, come on.
07:00Like, change your playbook up a little bit, right?
07:02Have some balls.
07:04Ordinarily, I would probably...
07:05We do this at our desks every morning.
07:07We have a fistfight every day.
07:09I would be here to push back on anything that you've just said,
07:11but I agree with all of it.
07:12I was really, really down on Clash in Italy
07:15to the point where, like, I was watching live.
07:16It was on a really nice time here in the UK for us.
07:19And I still just...
07:20I was in, like, such a mood after Brock and Oba Femi,
07:23which, to be honest, I feel like you could see
07:24from the very early stages of the match.
07:26I thought it was written across Oba Femi's face.
07:28Completely speculation on my part, by the way,
07:30but it does make me wonder how happy he was
07:32to be doing the JLB in a situation like this,
07:34where his career is on the rise.
07:35Ask yourself this, looking at, like, historical precedent, for example.
07:39Would WWE have wanted John Cena to absorb a loss like this
07:44at this point in his trajectory?
07:46Would they have wanted Steve Austin to absorb a loss
07:48at this point in his trajectory?
07:49The trajectory I'm talking about, of course,
07:50is, like, before they have won the top title,
07:53before they have proven beyond a shadow of a doubt
07:56that they are a winner, that they are kind of unstoppable.
07:59You know, especially within WWE, this is how it works.
08:01It's historically fans-backed winners.
08:04Wrestling, right?
08:04Here's the breaking news on this news video.
08:07Wrestling's fake.
08:08You can do whatever you want, right?
08:09And it really bothers me that here in...
08:11And we use, like, the year to try and contextualise things.
08:13The big 26, right?
08:14In 2026, the way that a trilogy is spoken of,
08:18like, it is the thing you are supposed to do,
08:20as if all of this is still real.
08:21It's simply not the case.
08:22This is not the territories in the 80s,
08:24where, like, the fans would, like, beg for their local guy
08:28to get one more shot at Ric Flair
08:29because they were invested in the fiction of it.
08:31No, we were talking about this as a trilogy
08:33before the show even happened,
08:34and there's something so bleak about that.
08:37My same colleague, Michael Sidgwick,
08:38often talks about how there's no such thing
08:40in American pro wrestling as real heat anymore
08:42because we're all in,
08:43and at half the time, the heel does the beat down,
08:45and it's like, one more time.
08:46You know, if, like, Sean put Marty through the window now,
08:49there'd be huge pops for it
08:50because of the shock at the moment rather than the...
08:51I was there for a moment.
08:53Right, rather than, like, the feeling of hatred
08:55and, like, being angry that that guy has betrayed his friend.
08:57We were talking about this result in the same way,
09:00and it sterilises the push of Oberfemi.
09:02If he goes over, we sat here today,
09:04look, there could be problems
09:05with every other thing on this card,
09:07but we would sit here and we would say,
09:08a chest pump's out,
09:09but thank God they showed the guts with Oberfemi.
09:11Thank God they're going all the way with him.
09:13Yes, Brock might want one more shot at it in Minnesota
09:15where he retires for real this time,
09:17but then that makes it 3-0.
09:19And Ober's swept him,
09:20and it's an even bigger statement.
09:22It's so rote and dated
09:24to think you have to do these things.
09:26There will be people that tell you that,
09:28you know, like,
09:29oh, well, you know, it's the right thing to do.
09:30Now we have the rubber match.
09:32I don't need a rubber match.
09:33Listen to yourself.
09:34Listen to what you're saying,
09:34calling it a rubber match.
09:35Why?
09:36Why even make Oberfemi look like
09:37he's a guy that requires a rubber match
09:39in the first place?
09:40Because the rubber match is competitive.
09:41I don't want Oberfemi to be competitive.
09:42No.
09:43He's a monster.
09:44Yeah.
09:44They've put Oberfemi in the King of the Ring brackets,
09:47we should note.
09:48So it's, you know,
09:49there's a strong chance that he goes all the way in that one,
09:51and if he doesn't,
09:52it'll likely be because it's something to do with Brock Lesnar.
09:54So, you know,
09:54it's all like Oberfemi's near future is secured,
09:58and we're not here saying,
09:59oh, the push is dead,
10:00and all that kind of stuff.
10:01But it would just be nicer to like,
10:02because what happens is that you analyse this
10:04as like trying to watch that the company
10:05are like getting behind people.
10:07To your point about like the late 2010s,
10:09I vastly prefer this WWE
10:11to the latter days of Vince McMahon.
10:14Oh, yeah.
10:14But yeah,
10:15a constant theme of that was the idea
10:16that it never really felt like anybody
10:18rose up and down the card
10:19because everybody was levelled by this type of booking.
10:22I'm not raising those red flags yet,
10:24but these are the kind of markers
10:25of something coming to a boom,
10:27as you call it,
10:28like coming to its end
10:29when the commitment has been drained away
10:32from the product of it.
10:33Let us know what you think
10:34in the comments section below.
10:35Do you agree or are we mental?
10:37I feel like we're just for fighting consensus.
10:40Yeah, well,
10:41I will say this, right,
10:42for a bit of balance on Clash in Italy,
10:45WWE are still playing blinders
10:46going to these underserved markets
10:47because the crowd were absolutely unbelievable.
10:49The venue looked great.
10:50It's a cheat code.
10:50Yeah.
10:51They're still hot in the building.
10:53The wrestler's got amazing receptions.
10:54You could watch that show on an island
10:56and say,
10:56well, Brock Lesnar's one of those other guys.
10:58Of course he was.
10:58I haven't wrestled in Europe in decades
11:00and they were buzzing to see him.
11:02So there's lots of stuff to enjoy
11:03from the show in other ways.
11:05But yeah,
11:05picking apart the booking,
11:06I don't think it was too much of a challenge.
11:08Nor did Liv Morgan.
11:09It would seem.
11:10Yeah,
11:11they announced the King and Queen of the Ring brackets.
11:13A series of four-ways leading to semifinals,
11:15leading to finals that will take place
11:17at a night of champions in Saudi Arabia
11:21where King and Queens of the Ring will be crowned.
11:23And those winners will go into SummerSlam
11:25to face their respective champions.
11:26Or will they?
11:28Because world heavyweight champion
11:29Liv Morgan's in the field.
11:30What's happened there?
11:33She's in a four-way match
11:35against Becky Lynch,
11:36Alexa Bliss and Chelsea Green.
11:37Big name four-way.
11:38Sure.
11:39One of the first round matches.
11:40But it did immediately raise a few questions
11:42as to why a world champion
11:43would enter a match
11:44when the prize is a title shot.
11:46Exactly.
11:47It brings to mind the days
11:48of the ECW champion
11:50entering the Royal Rumble,
11:51for example,
11:51you know,
11:52to get to the WrestleMania.
11:53Kind of undermines one belt
11:54if you're challenging for another.
11:55Liv Morgan was featured
11:57on the post-show of Clash Nail.
11:59At least she didn't wrestle on the card.
12:00She was one of the wrestlers
12:01stationed in the crowd
12:02to smile and wave.
12:03And she was kind of asked,
12:04put on the spot by Tessitore
12:06and the panel
12:06to come up with an explanation
12:08as to why.
12:09And the best she had,
12:09it wasn't bad,
12:10she said,
12:10quote,
12:11it had me thinking of all the people
12:12that say Liv Morgan
12:13isn't worthy of being champion.
12:15And you know what that made me think?
12:16That made me think
12:16I'm entering the Queen of the Ring tournament
12:18because I want it all.
12:19I want it all,
12:19so I'm taking it all
12:20because I'm the greatest
12:21world's women's champion
12:22of all time.
12:24So,
12:25that's her talking around
12:26this very odd,
12:28confusing bit of booking.
12:30Here's the thing, right?
12:31You can actually,
12:32these four ways
12:33in triple threat tournaments,
12:35I'm actually going to give
12:35Triple H a bit of credit here.
12:36I think this is an example
12:37of how you can
12:39show a bit of conviction
12:40in your booking.
12:40Historically,
12:41since you started booking these
12:42over the last few years,
12:43what happens is
12:45somebody can get pinned
12:46in a situation where
12:47they don't necessarily
12:48lose any steam.
12:49It's a tournament match,
12:49but it builds a match
12:50down the line.
12:51Let's say here,
12:52if a Becky Lynch
12:53or Chelsea Green
12:54was to score a pinfall
12:55over Liv Morgan,
12:56whatever happens in the tournament,
12:58they've just beaten the champion.
12:59And that creates
13:00a story between them,
13:00you know?
13:01Alexa Bliss is a babyface
13:02who's kind of like
13:03rebuilt a lot of her credibility
13:04alongside Charlotte Flair.
13:06That's all in tag stuff.
13:06What if she beats Liv Morgan?
13:08Likewise,
13:09Liv Morgan gets all the way
13:09to the final,
13:10but loses there.
13:12Somebody that has won
13:13the Queen of the Ring
13:13has just been Liv Morgan.
13:14Now she's ready.
13:15There are things to do
13:16with Liv Morgan
13:17as a world champion in it,
13:18but it's extremely,
13:19extremely un-WWE
13:20to kind of accidentally
13:22bury one of your champions
13:23by having them
13:24enter the tournament.
13:25Yeah, it's just weird.
13:26I mean, Jordan Grace exists.
13:28She's not in the tournament,
13:29I don't think.
13:30Yeah, there's a few notable
13:31omissions in both tournaments.
13:32So I don't really understand
13:34the, unless it's finishing
13:37at Night of Champions, right?
13:38And that's in Saudi Arabia.
13:39Unless Saudi Arabia
13:40really want Liv Morgan
13:41on the show.
13:41Possibly, yeah.
13:42Maybe.
13:43I'm not sure.
13:44It's weird.
13:45She tweeted as well.
13:46And to me,
13:49this seems like
13:49kind of like she's been
13:50like, wow, what's going on?
13:51Well, I'll try and make
13:52the most of this,
13:53which is to her credit
13:54if she has,
13:55but she tweeted
13:55when someone asked about it.
13:57I, the Liv Morgan,
13:58am a free-time world champion,
14:00tag champion,
14:01blah, blah, blah, blah, blah,
14:01money in the bank winner,
14:02rumble winner.
14:03I have no challenges
14:04for my women's world championship
14:05because everybody is
14:06too scared to challenge me.
14:07I have the most dominant
14:08faction in all of WWE
14:09watching my back,
14:10so I totally get it.
14:11These girls are cat emoji,
14:13but they're not dumb.
14:15So me being the hard
14:16worker go-getter
14:17that I am,
14:18I've decided to enter
14:18and win because
14:19I'm better than everyone.
14:20Do you understand now?
14:21So, to me,
14:23it does read like,
14:24she's like,
14:24I've got to try and make
14:25lemonade from these lemons.
14:27I understand now,
14:28it almost sounds like
14:29it's coming from
14:29a place of confrontation,
14:30doesn't it?
14:31Yeah, absolutely.
14:32So, it's just a weird one.
14:34It's a really weird one.
14:36I'm sure it'll be fine.
14:37Look, we'll have forgotten
14:38about it in a week.
14:40It's not like it's
14:41a game-changing story
14:42of the year
14:43or anything like that.
14:44No, it's weird though.
14:44But it is weird.
14:46So,
14:47let's talk about
14:48Jacob Fatu now
14:49and his role
14:51at Clash in Italy.
14:52It was very much in doubt
14:54heading into the show
14:55where there were fears,
14:56as reported from PW Insider,
14:58that he was actually injured
14:59and he might not make it
15:00to the match
15:00with Roman Reigns.
15:02He ended up making it
15:03to that match
15:04in particular.
15:05And now,
15:06actually,
15:06a very interesting source,
15:08a very interesting source,
15:10it's PW Insider,
15:11has reported that,
15:11actually,
15:12Drew McIntyre
15:13was discussed
15:14as a potential
15:17replacement.
15:19Should.
15:20So,
15:20I'm speaking rubbish there.
15:22It was actually
15:22False Finish
15:23that reported this.
15:24But yeah,
15:24I thought that would
15:26make you laugh.
15:26That's good.
15:27The False Finish
15:28reported that
15:29one of the alternative plans
15:30that would have
15:31came in and replaced
15:32Jacob if he wasn't
15:33available was Drew.
15:35Which,
15:35I mean,
15:35he's clashed with
15:36the bloodline,
15:36he's clashed with Roman.
15:38Ah,
15:38good clash.
15:39Yeah,
15:39clash at the clash,
15:40C2,
15:41continental classic,
15:42see you later,
15:43it's clash at the clash
15:44now,
15:44I guess.
15:46That was one of the
15:47options there.
15:47So yeah,
15:48Drew's been away
15:48for a while,
15:49he's been filming
15:50Highlander,
15:51I believe.
15:52It was reported
15:52over the weekend
15:53that he's basically
15:54ready to come back
15:55whenever,
15:55because that has
15:56now wrapped,
15:58he has finished
15:59being,
16:00I've never actually
16:01seen one of those
16:02films despite being
16:03the Highlander
16:04himself.
16:05Just a documentary.
16:06Yeah,
16:06it's about my life.
16:07It's about my life.
16:08I hope they got the
16:09bit where me and
16:10William Wallace
16:10won that battle.
16:12Yeah.
16:13Me and him had that
16:14battle and we took
16:15on a thousand people.
16:16I saw Mel Gibson
16:17Netflix,
16:17especially in the
16:1890s,
16:18they got across
16:19that on there,
16:19I think.
16:20Yeah,
16:20I wouldn't give my
16:21image rights to that
16:21one,
16:22so they wouldn't
16:23let me in.
16:24Actually,
16:24if you go to
16:24Hadrian's Wall
16:25now,
16:25there's actually
16:25a statue of me
16:26and Willie.
16:28Yeah.
16:29Just hanging out.
16:30Yeah,
16:30they're actually
16:31thinking of putting
16:31it to where
16:32Sycamore Gap
16:32used to be.
16:33Is that anything
16:34to do with that
16:36automaton in the
16:36kilt,
16:37Robot the Bruce?
16:38That's right.
16:39Is that the same
16:39guy?
16:40And Bob Roy,
16:41those guys.
16:42Robot cop.
16:43Rob Roy's cave
16:44is near where I
16:45used to live,
16:46where I grew up
16:46actually.
16:47It's great.
16:47Rob Roy's cave?
16:48Do you know
16:49about Rob Roy?
16:49To keep his stuff
16:50there.
16:51No,
16:51no.
16:53I'll tell you
16:54about Rob Roy
16:55later on.
16:55I need my Rob Roy
16:55law.
16:56What about
16:56Robbie Burns?
16:57Have you heard of
16:58Robbie Burns?
16:58I'm aware of his work.
17:00The Bard.
17:00I like his first
17:01album.
17:02I'm more of a
17:03Jimmy Shant kind of
17:04guy.
17:04But yeah,
17:05there you go.
17:05Drew McIntyre,
17:07as we keep going
17:08through the great
17:09heroes of my
17:10nation,
17:11including Drew
17:12McIntyre,
17:13he was a potential
17:14replacement for Jacob.
17:15I can see how
17:15they arrived at
17:16that.
17:16The very first
17:17clash of this
17:18series was
17:19Clash at the
17:19Castle,
17:19where Drew
17:20fought Roman.
17:21Clash in
17:23Glasgow?
17:24It wasn't
17:24called that.
17:25Clash at the
17:25Castle 2 was
17:26in Glasgow and
17:26Drew got
17:27screwed out.
17:28No castle.
17:29He got
17:30screwed out of
17:30the title by
17:31CM Punk,
17:31didn't he?
17:32If you're
17:33going to bring
17:33somebody out of
17:34absolutely
17:34nowhere,
17:34try and
17:35over-deliver
17:35if Jacob's
17:36gone and got
17:36injured.
17:36I want to
17:37say,
17:37by the way,
17:38Cody Rhodes
17:39has been very
17:39vocal about it.
17:40I attended one
17:41of the WWE
17:41house shows in
17:42Newcastle this
17:43year and it
17:43did feel like
17:44this is what
17:44WWE is missing.
17:45I think some
17:45of the wrestlers
17:46need this.
17:47The quality
17:47in-ring of
17:48late.
17:49Two of the
17:50major headlines
17:50coming out of
17:51the first one
17:51in Liverpool
17:51was that
17:52video of
17:54LA Knight
17:54and the
17:55619 and
17:55then Jacob
17:56Fatou getting
17:56injured.
17:57It's a bit
17:58of a snake
17:59bit.
17:59They're great!
18:00Was it
18:00Mello was in
18:02a Liverpool
18:02shirt?
18:03Why did you
18:04turn heel?
18:06Half of
18:07Liverpool will
18:07be thrilled.
18:09Support
18:10Tramier Rovers.
18:11It's not
18:12really Liverpool.
18:12I'm an
18:12Everton guy.
18:13It's a kinship
18:13with Everton.
18:14They've got a
18:14crap new stadium
18:15though.
18:15I've been there.
18:16It's a lovely
18:17stadium.
18:18Horrible
18:18plastic mess.
18:19Love it.
18:20Hill Dicko is
18:20alright with me
18:21but I don't
18:22think they've
18:22had the best
18:22of first.
18:23McDonald's is
18:23your favourite
18:24restaurant.
18:24I do like
18:25McDonald's.
18:26McMichelin.
18:28Speaking of
18:29Michelin star
18:30pro wrestling.
18:30I'll hamburger
18:31your Michelin star.
18:32Sol Ruka.
18:33What does that
18:34mean?
18:36Grimace over that
18:37one chief.
18:37I like that.
18:38That's good.
18:39Come on Ronald.
18:40We are a purple
18:41brand.
18:41I've been grimacing
18:42over the fed
18:42for a couple
18:43of weeks now.
18:44Mainly when I've
18:44been watching
18:45Sol Ruka matches
18:45because it's been
18:46full of barches
18:47and she keeps
18:47getting beat.
18:49That was 50%
18:50correct at
18:51Clash in Italy.
18:52Her and Becky
18:53Lynch.
18:54Still a few
18:54flubs.
18:55It's weird right?
18:56Sol Ruka.
18:57Anyway she defeated
18:57Becky Lynch.
18:58We'll do the story
18:59first.
18:59Fightful Select
19:00reported
19:01quote there was
19:02some internal
19:02discussion about
19:03Sol Ruka being
19:03booked in a title
19:04match without
19:05having secured a
19:06pinfall win on the
19:07main roster but it
19:07was booked anyway.
19:09To recap for those
19:10that haven't seen
19:10Sol Ruka won the
19:12Intercontinental title
19:13at Clash in Italy
19:14having so far arrived
19:16on the Raw after
19:16WrestleMania and
19:17leaves into Liv
19:18Morgan.
19:19She was then
19:20defeated in her
19:20NXT blow off by
19:21Zarya on the night
19:23after she was then
19:24defeated by Io
19:25Sky on Raw on
19:26the 11th of May.
19:27She did get the
19:27DQ win over Becky
19:28Lynch at Saturday
19:29night's main event
19:30but DQ is a DQ.
19:31So no pinfall or
19:33submission victories
19:33for Sol Ruka since
19:34she got the call up
19:35and now she's
19:35Intercontinental
19:36champion hence why
19:37there was presumably
19:38a bit of butting
19:38heads over that.
19:39The match at
19:41Clash in Italy
19:41it got there is the
19:43thing I will say
19:44about it.
19:44It was alright.
19:45It was pretty good.
19:46They were both very
19:47keen to erase some
19:50of the stains of
19:50some of the bits
19:51that have gone wrong
19:52in the segments
19:52of late.
19:52There's stuff that
19:53Saturday night's
19:53main event that
19:54wasn't great.
19:55It's strange right
19:56Sol Ruka an
19:57incredible athlete
20:00has been kind of
20:01like some of her
20:04mistakes thus far
20:05have been notable
20:05I will say.
20:06People botch
20:06it's wrestling
20:07stuff that happens
20:07all the time.
20:08Yeah it happens.
20:08But there wasn't
20:09a lot of this in
20:10NXT which is weird.
20:11It's felt like more
20:12of a theme of her
20:12main roster run than
20:13her NXT run thus
20:14far.
20:15Sol Snatcher a
20:16divisive one I get
20:17it but she hit it
20:18a lot more than she
20:18missed it.
20:19And so far.
20:20It's a complicated
20:22elaborate move.
20:23Massively so.
20:24Sometimes it's
20:24going to.
20:25Yeah.
20:26She kind of whiffed
20:28Saskia's special
20:29last night as well
20:30like Becky Lynch
20:30was just about there
20:31for it.
20:32So it's a couple of
20:32like still little
20:33chemistry moments
20:33between the two
20:34but they did get
20:34there.
20:35It got over big
20:36in the building
20:37Sol Ruka winning
20:38her first match
20:38and becoming
20:39the Cottonmouth
20:39champion.
20:40Isn't a terrible
20:40story.
20:41Becky Lynch has
20:42been really good
20:43I think with this
20:43belt about how
20:44she'll often
20:45I mean look now
20:45what are we on
20:46three?
20:46Maxine Dupree,
20:47AJ Lee and
20:48Sol Ruka.
20:49Yeah exactly.
20:50She's kind of
20:50chasing that sort
20:51of like almost
20:53Ric Flair
20:53doesn't matter how
20:54often you lose it
20:55as long as you
20:55win it back
20:55type thing
20:56and the idea
20:56is to try
20:57and get somebody
20:58over enough
20:58as you go.
21:00You know
21:00we've basically seen
21:01how it'll work
21:01for Sol Ruka
21:02and obviously
21:03there was a little
21:03bit of push and pull
21:04backstage
21:04to do this
21:05but I was quite
21:06glad they actually
21:07pulled the trigger
21:07on this one.
21:08Yeah we predicted
21:10it in our
21:11predictions video
21:12funnily enough
21:12and figured it was
21:14the right move
21:14I think it was
21:15the only real
21:16example of booking
21:17with a bit of
21:18conviction on the
21:18actual show
21:19so I was welcome
21:20for it
21:20and on to the
21:21point of her not
21:21winning any matches
21:22in the build up
21:23to it
21:23I don't necessarily
21:24think that ever
21:25look it's WWE
21:26it doesn't need to
21:27be this sports
21:28based you know
21:29wins and losses
21:30thing
21:32but distilling
21:33a bit more meaning
21:34into wins and
21:35losses is something
21:36they would really
21:36benefit from doing
21:37in this instance
21:39I don't think I
21:40really needed a
21:41five match Sol Ruka
21:42winning streak or
21:43whatever to end
21:43the thing
21:44but one would
21:44have been nice
21:45I suppose
21:46her introduction
21:47to the main
21:48roster
21:48I don't think
21:50it's how I
21:50personally would
21:51have written it
21:52but also it's
21:53only been like
21:53four weeks and
21:54it's going to be
21:54absolutely fine
21:55because she's the
21:56champion now
21:56and that will
21:57guarantee her
21:58certain opportunities
21:59she's got to
21:59work with Becky
22:00Lynch straight out
22:01of the gate
22:01this has been
22:01the theme of
22:02Becky's past
22:02few years
22:03be it working
22:04with people
22:05coming up
22:05or be it
22:06working with
22:07veterans like
22:07AJ Lee
22:08who need to
22:09re-find their
22:09footing
22:10or going down
22:10to NXT
22:11and doing her
22:12stuff down there
22:12working with
22:13Lyra
22:13on the main
22:14roster as well
22:15and things like
22:15that
22:16that's Becky's
22:17this is her
22:18era
22:18she's the
22:19guiding
22:20kind of
22:20veteran presence
22:22of the division
22:23so yeah
22:25I'm not surprised
22:26there was a bit
22:26of push and pull
22:27because yeah
22:27if you look at it
22:28on paper
22:28if you see the
22:30like it's
22:31zero winzo
22:32it's like almost
22:32Penta-esque
22:33in that regard
22:37yeah it's a bit
22:38it's a bit going
22:39but it doesn't
22:40really tell the
22:40whole story
22:41I don't think
22:41I'm actually
22:42fine with all
22:43of this
22:43to be honest
22:44I think
22:45I did like
22:46Sol Ruka
22:47on NXT
22:48and she did
22:49immediately feel
22:49like somebody
22:50that WWE
22:50were going to
22:52give a good
22:53shot to
22:53I just
22:54I'm like
22:54I think
22:55it's perfectly
22:56normal as well
22:56and perfectly
22:57understandable
22:57I don't know
22:58there's been a
22:58sort of a
22:59nerviness to her
23:00works
23:00the thing to
23:01remember with
23:02Sol Ruka
23:02as well
23:02is that
23:02plenty of
23:03people spend
23:03say like
23:04three to
23:04four years
23:05in NXT
23:05now
23:06that's
23:06becoming
23:06increasingly
23:07the norm
23:07but her
23:08three to
23:08four years
23:09are her
23:09entire
23:09three to
23:10four years
23:10in wrestling
23:11so like
23:12by comparison
23:12to some
23:12of the
23:12people
23:13for NXT
23:13it's a bit
23:13of a speedrun
23:15so she's
23:15going to have
23:16to kind of
23:16learn as she
23:17goes here
23:17and often
23:18like
23:19you know
23:19the phrase
23:20is like
23:20you know
23:21the man or
23:22the woman's
23:22got to make
23:22the belt
23:23not the other
23:23way around
23:23but sometimes
23:24it is the
23:24other way around
23:25sometimes the
23:25belt doesn't
23:26instill a bit
23:26of confidence
23:26I think that's
23:27again why
23:27Becky Lynch
23:28has probably
23:28wanted this
23:29program
23:29wanted this
23:30rivalry
23:30I could well
23:31see Becky
23:31winning it
23:32back
23:32these things
23:32tend to be
23:33series
23:33with her
23:35and it does
23:38sometimes feel
23:39like the right
23:39way around
23:40to do the
23:40trilogy
23:40as opposed to
23:41our Ober
23:41and Brock
23:42thing
23:42because what
23:42you have
23:42is the baby
23:43face in the
23:43middle
23:43actually getting
23:44a big win
23:44so you get
23:45that good
23:45feeling
23:46before Becky
23:46ends up
23:47coming out
23:47on top of
23:48these things
23:48to be fair
23:49stylistically
23:49there are not
23:50many things
23:50in common
23:51between
23:51Obafemi
23:51and Sol Ruka
23:52so the booking
23:54should be a little
23:54bit different
23:56I don't really
23:56see Obafemi
23:57hitting a
23:58soul snatcher
23:58although I'd love
23:58to see that
23:59to be fair
24:00that's all
24:00nothing out
24:00that'd be
24:01bad
24:02and if
24:03Sol starts
24:04doing the
24:04power moves
24:05I'd be
24:06kind of
24:06into that
24:07there could
24:07be like
24:07a tag team
24:08where she's
24:09surfing out
24:09and he's
24:10walking
24:10through the
24:11sea
24:14sure
24:15but stylistically
24:16very different
24:16wrestlers
24:17so much better
24:18when the feds
24:19everyone's
24:20happier
24:20when the feds
24:21the best
24:21right
24:21well
24:21I mean
24:22it's not
24:23been the best
24:23since probably
24:24like 19
24:262000
