00:00:00Hello and welcome to Your Questions Answered.
00:00:04We are the Dadly Boys of WhatCulture.
00:00:06I'm Adam Wilborn, joined by Michael Hanfleet and Michael Sidgwick,
00:00:08here to answer your burning wrestling questions.
00:00:10But before we get into it, if you're a fan of this sort of thing,
00:00:13make sure you subscribe to WhatCultressing on Apple Podcasts,
00:00:15Spotify, Amazon Music, and YouTube.
00:00:17We do daily wrestling podcasts where we review Raw, Smackdown,
00:00:20the show formerly known as NXT 2.0.
00:00:23We've done my A2B Collision, pay-per-views, premium live events.
00:00:26We have interviews, roundtable discussions,
00:00:28and a round of the week complete with a very good quiz, of course,
00:00:31on WrestleCulture.
00:00:32I said that, John Byrne and Sidgwick,
00:00:34here to answer your burning wrestling questions
00:00:37after a very quiet wrestling weekend, of course.
00:00:40And we'll start straight away by tackling a question
00:00:44from one half of the guys who handle the...
00:00:47Dada.
00:00:48Thank you for the ladies' night game on AEW Dynamite.
00:00:52Jose Palomares, who...
00:00:54Well, actually, Jose asked us a question about the whole situation.
00:00:57Ezra Pertains.
00:00:58Indeed, with the walkout on AEW Collision.
00:01:02So before we get his question about where we go from here,
00:01:05what did you make of all the furore over the weekend?
00:01:08There's a nice five minutes of tweets on it.
00:01:10A nice five minutes on Twitter to read the various piss takes
00:01:14and a little bit of, ooh, something interesting
00:01:16finally happened in 2025.
00:01:19Thank Christ for that.
00:01:20I've got five minutes worth it on this Doomscroll Slop app.
00:01:25Funny for me, what you're thinking, I tell you what.
00:01:29And this, Ezra Pertains,
00:01:31it pertains to both of you and your SmackDown coverage.
00:01:34Less facetiously, they need to study
00:01:37what WWE does to people's brains.
00:01:39And I know that sounds like a very me take.
00:01:41I know that sounds overtly cynical.
00:01:44I am deadly f***ing serious.
00:01:47What, what does this promotion do to people's brains
00:01:51where they have convinced, like, loads and loads of fans
00:01:57and so many talents
00:02:01that it's the absolute be-all and end-all.
00:02:04If we look at you for longer than five seconds, right?
00:02:10We look at you for longer than five seconds.
00:02:13If we position you on the lowest part of the card,
00:02:17if you're lucky to get a bloody bit of TV time at all, right?
00:02:23They suddenly get this inflated ego of,
00:02:26I was looked at once by the great WWE.
00:02:29I was booked once by the great WWE.
00:02:32I, therefore, am this absolutely enormous superstar
00:02:38who you should be grateful to have
00:02:41on your lesser-rated B-level programming.
00:02:46It's crazy.
00:02:48It's one thing, right, if you are Roman Reigns.
00:02:53Let's go, like, let's go down the tier here.
00:02:55You're Roman Reigns and you are pumped up
00:02:57pretty much day one.
00:02:59You walk onto that main roster in this.
00:03:01They actually do a push.
00:03:03It's incredible.
00:03:04I love it, the shield.
00:03:07And then the fact that that's even happening is one thing.
00:03:11And if you're Roman Reigns
00:03:12and you've been told it's a vehicle for your singles run
00:03:16and we are grooming you,
00:03:18so here's the expectation.
00:03:21You're going to be the model pro.
00:03:23You're going to get flattered in all of these matches.
00:03:26This is a vehicle for you.
00:03:27You are going to be the next John Cena.
00:03:31We are going to persist with your push
00:03:33in complete defiance of a toxic weekly backlash
00:03:39that will go on for years and years.
00:03:41That's how much we see in you.
00:03:44That's fair enough, probably.
00:03:46And I think I remember reading, and correct me if I'm wrong,
00:03:49that when there was talk of AEW coming of various wrestlers,
00:03:57you know, like the Revival, Luke Harper, Ty Dillinger,
00:04:01they were like, oh, well, we're doing nothing here.
00:04:03So can we go there?
00:04:06No.
00:04:07No, absolutely not.
00:04:09Eventually, well, Ty Dillinger did.
00:04:11And God bless the dearly departed,
00:04:14rest in peace, Brodie Lee,
00:04:15because he was like, oh, I'll do a bit of that.
00:04:17And then he tried to do the exact same thing
00:04:19and they just went, no.
00:04:20It's like, well, why not?
00:04:22What?
00:04:23Dillinger was allowed to go.
00:04:25I read that, and again, this is very dim.
00:04:28I haven't researched it.
00:04:29I'm just talking off the top of my head,
00:04:31but I'm convinced that I remember reading that AJ Styles,
00:04:36who they wanted alongside the club to do this sort of early,
00:04:40oh, well, where the Bullet Club real quiz,
00:04:43you know, who's got ownership over who changed it really,
00:04:46and da-da-da-da-da.
00:04:46And then AJ was like, oh, well, I'll talk to AEW
00:04:49because you know why.
00:04:51The second that I talked to AEW,
00:04:53would you like an extra several six-figures sum?
00:04:57Yes, please.
00:04:58Thank you for doing business, WWE.
00:05:01And I remember reading that a lot,
00:05:05if not the majority of WWE guys,
00:05:07sounded out AEW at the time,
00:05:10if for no other reason than to go,
00:05:13than to like spook WWE into giving them more money.
00:05:16And in fact, that's what they should all be doing
00:05:18if they're not already doing it now.
00:05:21Oh, my contract's up in the air.
00:05:23You know, it's tapping up or whatever,
00:05:25but I'm going to talk to the other side
00:05:27just to gauge interest.
00:05:28And I don't do that.
00:05:29We want you, certainly a lot more now, actually.
00:05:32Here's this much money.
00:05:33Re-signed with us.
00:05:34Wonderful.
00:05:35It's leveraged.
00:05:36I remember reading that Roman Reigns
00:05:38was like the one guy who was out.
00:05:39I'm not even going to talk to them.
00:05:41That's not happening.
00:05:42It's not realistic.
00:05:43But pay me just in case, you know,
00:05:45and they did or whatever.
00:05:47That's fine.
00:05:47If you are like a Seth Rollins,
00:05:50i.e. the marketeer,
00:05:51I don't get it, but whatever.
00:05:55It's borderline narcissism.
00:05:58If you are a Miro or an Alistair Black,
00:06:02better half get it.
00:06:03Alistair Black,
00:06:042020 Royal Rumble,
00:06:06it was a choice between him
00:06:08and Drew McIntyre.
00:06:09It went down to the wire.
00:06:11Paul Heyman was,
00:06:12we've got to go with Alistair Black.
00:06:13We've got to go with Alistair Black.
00:06:15If you're Alistair Black,
00:06:16and you know,
00:06:17the general consensus is,
00:06:18talks a load of rubbish,
00:06:19sometimes great in the ring,
00:06:21supernatural wrestling nonsense,
00:06:23love his entrance and his look,
00:06:25laughing stock in some circles.
00:06:27But if you're Alistair Black,
00:06:28I can vaguely,
00:06:30vaguely grasp why you would be,
00:06:33why are you the way that you are?
00:06:35Oh, it's because I was,
00:06:35you know,
00:06:36I was the second choice,
00:06:37days away from Royal Rumble
00:06:39of like headlining WrestleMania
00:06:40and maybe I can go back to those days.
00:06:42That's fine.
00:06:43If you're Rusev and you know,
00:06:46you just want to be a WWE guy,
00:06:48you can go on like that.
00:06:50If you are Tegan Nox,
00:06:53right,
00:06:54lucky to get on speed,
00:06:56lucky to get on main event
00:06:58and you are walking into a collision taping,
00:07:02having been bounced out of WWE,
00:07:06right?
00:07:07Because they don't want you no more.
00:07:09They see nothing in you.
00:07:10You didn't get over there really.
00:07:12And they do not want your services
00:07:15because they don't think you're good enough.
00:07:19Should that not be a sort of a humbling,
00:07:22a little lesson in humility of,
00:07:24all right,
00:07:24okay,
00:07:25well I'll do what drew,
00:07:26McIntyre did
00:07:27and grind and work
00:07:29and receive every opportunity gratefully
00:07:31and go on
00:07:32and develop my reputation
00:07:33and I will say
00:07:35it's harder than ever to do that
00:07:37because you either do it in AEW
00:07:39or unless you are so good
00:07:42and you've proven yourself such a draw
00:07:44in very,
00:07:46very,
00:07:46very hostile,
00:07:48barren lands
00:07:49like TNA
00:07:50and you're Mike Santana,
00:07:52that's the closest you're going to get.
00:07:54So I half understand why you'd go,
00:07:57ah, well,
00:07:58it's going to be,
00:07:59it sounds a lot like hard work.
00:08:01I can instead just be entitled to it.
00:08:02Instead,
00:08:04it's like you're Nixon Newell.
00:08:05You know,
00:08:06you had a lot of promise about eight years ago.
00:08:08There are WWE fans right now
00:08:10in buildings
00:08:12who,
00:08:13earlier this year,
00:08:14I'm convinced didn't even know who Rusev was
00:08:16when he turned up on the war after WrestleMania,
00:08:18was it?
00:08:18To a pretty subdued reaction.
00:08:23Burst your own bubble.
00:08:25Get in touch with the real world.
00:08:27I know you're a wrestler.
00:08:28I know it's difficult.
00:08:30Survey the landscape.
00:08:31Get a brain in your head.
00:08:32Get some humility in your heart.
00:08:33If you actually want to do this,
00:08:35which I'm not convinced she does,
00:08:36which is another thing.
00:08:38But my God,
00:08:39what does WWE do to these people's brains?
00:08:41It's staggering to me,
00:08:43this story.
00:08:44It's hilarious.
00:08:46It's,
00:08:46you know,
00:08:46and you know,
00:08:47usual caveats.
00:08:48We don't know every side of the story,
00:08:50even though it's a completely
00:08:51multi-sourced story
00:08:54from a very reputable outlet.
00:08:56In what?
00:08:56Fightful Select as well?
00:08:58Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:08:58I mean, come on.
00:08:59It's funny,
00:09:02the situation to me.
00:09:03It's funny.
00:09:04But it's an indictment of pro wrestling
00:09:06that Nixon Newell has dominated
00:09:07the discourse this weekend.
00:09:09Ridge Holland has dominated
00:09:10the discourse earlier in this year.
00:09:11Karrion Kross did.
00:09:13R-Truth did.
00:09:14What a boring, boring, boring year
00:09:16for professional wrestling this is.
00:09:18Sarah Stock.
00:09:20Yeah, proudly.
00:09:21Don't disagree with that.
00:09:22I've read,
00:09:23I saw it today
00:09:24when,
00:09:25so like Andy Murray filters out
00:09:27like the news stories
00:09:27for us to aggregate
00:09:28and I read
00:09:29two long form pieces.
00:09:31It was like the,
00:09:32I guess there's something
00:09:33close to the original report
00:09:34with added stuff
00:09:35from multiple sources
00:09:36from like various wrestlers
00:09:37and then a long statement
00:09:39from Nixon Newell.
00:09:40On Twitch, yeah.
00:09:41Yeah.
00:09:42And it was great
00:09:42because it was just,
00:09:45there's the truth
00:09:46in front of you.
00:09:47You've just got to discern
00:09:48which bits are the specifics
00:09:49because it was like
00:09:51going out to the,
00:09:53like two of your mates
00:09:54have fallen out
00:09:55and you go to the pub
00:09:57on consecutive nights
00:09:58and you hear
00:09:59the same story
00:10:00but told completely
00:10:02from opposite sides.
00:10:04So like one story is.
00:10:06I've had that with a divorce
00:10:06with people close to me.
00:10:08Like it's,
00:10:09it's wild.
00:10:10It's like,
00:10:10I think I've got an idea.
00:10:12Yeah.
00:10:13Like there's an age old
00:10:14wrestler story
00:10:15on one side of,
00:10:17not in that,
00:10:18go off yourself
00:10:19or a various version of that.
00:10:21and then like a story
00:10:24as told through the lens
00:10:25of the wrestler
00:10:26that was in it.
00:10:26So we have,
00:10:27you know,
00:10:27like you've got to give her
00:10:28the opportunity to say,
00:10:30well, no,
00:10:30this is exactly how it played out.
00:10:32I was in that moment
00:10:33and this is how I lived it.
00:10:34But like every conversation is,
00:10:36yeah,
00:10:37I'm not happy to do this,
00:10:38but if we don't,
00:10:38that's fine,
00:10:38we'll just,
00:10:39we'll just head off.
00:10:40Well,
00:10:40we'll probably just beat the traffic.
00:10:41Like, yeah,
00:10:41I mean,
00:10:42if she wants to do that,
00:10:42we can,
00:10:43but like we think it'd be better
00:10:44if this happened
00:10:45and like da, da, da.
00:10:46And I honestly,
00:10:47when people tell,
00:10:48recount those stories,
00:10:49I'm like kind of willing to believe
00:10:50they think that's how it played out
00:10:52in contrast to the other version
00:10:54of the story
00:10:54from a bunch of separate wrestlers.
00:10:55I'm Hulk Hogan, bitch.
00:10:57Yeah, basically.
00:10:58I'm coming in
00:10:59to save the territory.
00:11:00So it's reasonable
00:11:01to assume the truth
00:11:02is somewhere in the middle
00:11:03and some of the politeness
00:11:04will be true,
00:11:05but some of the,
00:11:06sorry,
00:11:06what was that thing
00:11:07that she said
00:11:07as a quote?
00:11:09I'm Hulk Hogan, bitch,
00:11:10and I'm coming in
00:11:11with a big star power.
00:11:14She's Welsh.
00:11:15Yeah.
00:11:15I'm Hulk Hogan, bitch.
00:11:19And Hulkamania
00:11:22is running wild.
00:11:24I don't know.
00:11:25It's a bit wild.
00:11:26It's a bit wild.
00:11:27Tegan Nox said,
00:11:27I am.
00:11:28Bye, Tegan.
00:11:30Yeah.
00:11:31It's the truth there
00:11:33in the middle somewhere.
00:11:33Yeah.
00:11:34Between that
00:11:35and everybody being really nice
00:11:37to one of them.
00:11:38It's funny
00:11:39that you can get those two
00:11:41versions of it
00:11:42because, you know,
00:11:44whenever a story like this
00:11:45hits in pro wrestling
00:11:46and with a handful
00:11:47like how are the two
00:11:47so radically different
00:11:49it's almost scary
00:11:50in terms of how
00:11:52the human mind
00:11:53computes things
00:11:54for itself
00:11:55to make itself
00:11:55feel better.
00:11:57What are we doing?
00:11:58How do we even coexist
00:11:59in such a world
00:11:59where we all have
00:12:00such radically different
00:12:01perceptions of reality?
00:12:03You know, like,
00:12:04you know how the
00:12:05all-time best of everything
00:12:06in this decade
00:12:06is brought out?
00:12:07Yeah.
00:12:07That's why we reference it
00:12:08so much.
00:12:09It's the all-time best
00:12:09of everything.
00:12:10And like,
00:12:12I remember that
00:12:13somebody made
00:12:14a South Park clip.
00:12:15So you've got like
00:12:16either,
00:12:17either,
00:12:18right,
00:12:18this unbelievable
00:12:20fight in which
00:12:21the Young Bucks
00:12:22super kick a door
00:12:22on Larry's head
00:12:23or like a situation
00:12:25that has gotten
00:12:25out of control.
00:12:27Kenny Omega
00:12:28is like Superman
00:12:29into,
00:12:29to like lift the dog
00:12:31to give me.
00:12:31Give me a hero,
00:12:32baby.
00:12:32It was being bitten
00:12:33by,
00:12:34what's his name?
00:12:34Yeah.
00:12:35You can take
00:12:37my breath away.
00:12:39So I just love that
00:12:40side of the story
00:12:41because it's like,
00:12:41well,
00:12:41you think about this
00:12:42is like the Young Bucks
00:12:43were like really hostile
00:12:44and wanting to kick ass.
00:12:46And then they're like,
00:12:46oh,
00:12:47that's so tough
00:12:48that they go down
00:12:49and kick the door in.
00:12:51But like,
00:12:52Kenny Omega's a nice guy.
00:12:54I love that.
00:12:55I love that.
00:12:56There's someone going,
00:12:56oh, Kenny,
00:12:57you're bleeding, mate.
00:12:57Oh, yeah,
00:12:58I got bitten.
00:12:59Oh,
00:12:59at the end of the day,
00:12:59here's a dog.
00:13:01It's a man.
00:13:02It's a person.
00:13:02This dog's fine.
00:13:03But the thing is,
00:13:04Kenny Omega came in
00:13:06and he saved the dog's life
00:13:09because he's the ultimate hero
00:13:11in the story.
00:13:13Well,
00:13:13Jose says,
00:13:15Kenny used the twist.
00:13:17There was no dog.
00:13:20Funny,
00:13:21isn't it?
00:13:22Jose says,
00:13:23would you guys be interested
00:13:24in a tag match,
00:13:25basically,
00:13:26between the two teams,
00:13:26the team,
00:13:27the Knicks and Niels team
00:13:28or the team that replaced them?
00:13:29He has something,
00:13:29right?
00:13:30He has something.
00:13:31I mean,
00:13:32realistically,
00:13:33I couldn't care less.
00:13:34But let's talk about principles,
00:13:36okay?
00:13:36In terms of this match,
00:13:38I think I would,
00:13:39I'd watch it
00:13:41if they just decided
00:13:42to do it right.
00:13:43But I was listening
00:13:44to the flagship.
00:13:46This is a,
00:13:47it's a Voices of Wrestling's
00:13:49flagship podcast.
00:13:51Flogship podcast.
00:13:54It was,
00:13:56it wasn't recently,
00:13:58even though,
00:13:59I think my memory
00:14:00of this podcast
00:14:00has been triggered by it
00:14:01because Ridge Holland,
00:14:02obviously has been
00:14:03in the news
00:14:03with the whole da-da-da-da-da-da.
00:14:05But it was a while ago
00:14:06and the hosts
00:14:09were talking about
00:14:10the big E injury
00:14:11and they pitched,
00:14:16you know what,
00:14:17if you're up to me,
00:14:19get him in.
00:14:20Benoit 95,
00:14:21that bitch.
00:14:22Is it 94,
00:14:2395,
00:14:23the sabu?
00:14:24Yeah,
00:14:2494.
00:14:2594.
00:14:26Yeah.
00:14:26And then he just comes out
00:14:27next week and goes,
00:14:28I'll do it again.
00:14:30Yeah.
00:14:30I'll do it again.
00:14:33And then he just comes in
00:14:35and goes,
00:14:35I'll injure all of your favorites
00:14:36and I will do it
00:14:38because I like it
00:14:40and because,
00:14:41look at him,
00:14:42he ain't wrestling again.
00:14:44I can hurt people.
00:14:46I can earn money doing this.
00:14:48Do I care what you think of me?
00:14:50No.
00:14:50And then he goes on this big spree
00:14:51and that stuck with me
00:14:53of like,
00:14:54oh yeah,
00:14:54wrestling is scared of the heat
00:14:55in some ways.
00:14:56Everything has mutated
00:14:58into this like big
00:14:59epic shades of grace
00:15:01cinematic love story
00:15:02and like everyone is afraid
00:15:05of capitalizing on real heat.
00:15:09It's a matter of principle
00:15:10in terms of
00:15:11just a bit,
00:15:12something a little bit disruptive
00:15:14like because the idea would be
00:15:16nowadays,
00:15:17oh,
00:15:17we've got loads of talent
00:15:18who can put on loads
00:15:18of great matches
00:15:19and play nicely
00:15:20in our pre-ordained storylines.
00:15:23You don't reward
00:15:24and you know,
00:15:25wrestling's bad
00:15:26when it's so blandly competent
00:15:27because no,
00:15:28you shouldn't reward that.
00:15:29You shouldn't put them
00:15:30on Dynamite this week.
00:15:31Yes,
00:15:31it is serving a niche audience.
00:15:33So this,
00:15:34it's too niche.
00:15:35No one would care.
00:15:36No one would care.
00:15:38But if this happened
00:15:39in like,
00:15:40I don't know,
00:15:41say,
00:15:42you know,
00:15:43who's someone
00:15:43who's got a name?
00:15:46What an agent?
00:15:46Andrade.
00:15:47Okay.
00:15:49He comes,
00:15:51say,
00:15:51hypothetical situation,
00:15:53it's kind of available
00:15:54or he's not,
00:15:55comes in,
00:15:57it's like,
00:15:57I finally,
00:15:58like this sort of impasse
00:16:00has been broken.
00:16:01You come in,
00:16:02I would like you to do a job
00:16:03for Kenny Omega.
00:16:04Nah,
00:16:05nah,
00:16:05I'm not doing that.
00:16:06I was in WWE
00:16:07like two months ago.
00:16:10I've kind of got a bit
00:16:11of notoriety.
00:16:12You know,
00:16:12people want
00:16:13to see me.
00:16:15I think it would behoove
00:16:17my brand
00:16:17if I was to beat
00:16:18Kenny Omega
00:16:19and Tony Khan's like,
00:16:20well,
00:16:20you remember the Don Callis family?
00:16:22You're kind of mid-tier,
00:16:25that's stable.
00:16:27You're doing a job
00:16:28to Kenny Omega.
00:16:30Nope.
00:16:30And then that filters out.
00:16:32Yeah.
00:16:32If he can then be convinced,
00:16:34you know what,
00:16:35well,
00:16:37I'm back in the news.
00:16:38Yeah,
00:16:38I will do a job.
00:16:39I'd do that match
00:16:39in a heartbeat.
00:16:41There's nothing like that
00:16:42in wrestling these days.
00:16:43So I don't want to see that match.
00:16:44I'm with Hamflat,
00:16:45it balls the tits off me.
00:16:47But if something happened
00:16:48with a name
00:16:48that I actually care about,
00:16:49go nuts.
00:16:51Hi to LostGreg52.
00:16:53We've taken most of these questions
00:16:54from X,
00:16:55but obviously,
00:16:55as Hamflat has mentioned before,
00:16:57he's not on X,
00:16:57he's on Cameo.
00:16:58And Greg sent this message to you.
00:17:00Cameo Corner.
00:17:01Cameo Corner.
00:17:02Where'd I?
00:17:03Everybody saying
00:17:05on a real,
00:17:06in a real,
00:17:07in a real,
00:17:08in a real,
00:17:08in a real,
00:17:08in a real,
00:17:08in a real,
00:17:09in a real,
00:17:09in a real,
00:17:09in a real,
00:17:09in a real,
00:17:10in a real,
00:17:10in a real,
00:17:11in a real,
00:17:11in a real,
00:17:12in a real,
00:17:12in a real,
00:17:13the reasons that of the judgment day
00:17:14only defending the tag titles
00:17:16twice in 150 days
00:17:17or whatever it was,
00:17:18should the mandatory 30-day
00:17:20defense clause come back?
00:17:21When did it go?
00:17:22Was it go away?
00:17:23Was it down to part-time Brock?
00:17:25So I actually tried to track
00:17:27a specific moment.
00:17:28Ernie Wedge.
00:17:29They abandoned it,
00:17:30yeah.
00:17:30And that was the sad,
00:17:31saddest bit of how
00:17:32because there was a certain,
00:17:34there was like a few select title reigns
00:17:35that I thought,
00:17:36oh,
00:17:36it could have been there
00:17:36because there was a champion
00:17:37that was injured
00:17:38or whatever.
00:17:39But that was the first problem.
00:17:41They never officially abandoned it.
00:17:44And that's a wrestling thing
00:17:45because you get to sort of
00:17:46make up your
00:17:47kayfabe rules
00:17:48as and when you need them.
00:17:51So there was,
00:17:52the Brock Lesnar one
00:17:52is a great example
00:17:53because we used to kind of,
00:17:56as a sort of
00:17:57a wrestling fan community,
00:17:58think of Brock Lesnar
00:17:59as a total mercenary
00:18:00in his universal title reign
00:18:03and then Roman Reigns
00:18:05would have like
00:18:05everybody throwing up the wands
00:18:06as like the kind of
00:18:07top babyface
00:18:08who also happens to be
00:18:08the top heel.
00:18:09He defended the title
00:18:09less than that mercenary
00:18:10Brock Lesnar.
00:18:11So like the game
00:18:12completely changed
00:18:13along the way somewhere.
00:18:14And in defense of both of them
00:18:16as characters,
00:18:18this was also in the era
00:18:19where the less you were there,
00:18:20the more over you were
00:18:21because it was churn proof.
00:18:22And in terms of the actual character,
00:18:23if Brock plays along
00:18:25and defends that title
00:18:26within the alligators
00:18:28and get that specific
00:18:29strain of heat.
00:18:30He loses it, yeah.
00:18:30And Roman's this like almost...
00:18:32You need to resent Brock,
00:18:33that Brock for it to have worked.
00:18:34Roman was almost like
00:18:35a celebrity that
00:18:36would occasionally
00:18:37choose to wrestle.
00:18:38So again,
00:18:38there was sort of like
00:18:39a narrative reason
00:18:41why I guess it could work
00:18:41and then occasionally like
00:18:42because of their association
00:18:43with Paul Heyman
00:18:44who always somehow
00:18:46seemed to have an element,
00:18:48like in fiction,
00:18:49had like an element of power.
00:18:50It was as if he'd like
00:18:51drawn up a clever contract
00:18:52in which the 30-day rule
00:18:53was weird.
00:18:54But nobody ever said that out loud.
00:18:55And certainly this year
00:18:56we've seen
00:18:57with the likes of the tag belts
00:18:58and there's been prior times
00:19:00in Triple H's run alone
00:19:01where it's been,
00:19:02you know,
00:19:02for a guy that is like,
00:19:04Sid likes the phrase
00:19:04like blandly competent,
00:19:06this is a real blind spot of his
00:19:08because champions
00:19:09you just go missing
00:19:10for ages
00:19:10and then he remembers
00:19:11and they defend the belts
00:19:12or whatever.
00:19:14It's...
00:19:14We don't talk about restrictions
00:19:15as much with WWE
00:19:16as much as we do with AEW
00:19:18because AEW started
00:19:19with losing them
00:19:20and then we kind of
00:19:21watched them all fall away.
00:19:23Triple H,
00:19:23brought a few back
00:19:25as it pertains to
00:19:26what he fancied
00:19:27when he took over
00:19:28from Vince McMahon.
00:19:29I've missed this one
00:19:30dearly.
00:19:31Like,
00:19:31it doesn't take much
00:19:33to either adhere to it
00:19:34or
00:19:35come up with a
00:19:36kayfabe reason
00:19:36why a champion doesn't
00:19:37and then use that for heat
00:19:38or use that for
00:19:39like a baby face
00:19:41that gets injured
00:19:41and then can't keep the title
00:19:42can be
00:19:43so heartbreakingly effective.
00:19:45Devastatingly effective.
00:19:45I still remember
00:19:45Vatih's driving it
00:19:46and you're like,
00:19:46oh,
00:19:47not this way.
00:19:47Devastatingly effective.
00:19:48Yeah.
00:19:48Like,
00:19:49so that's great.
00:19:49A heel that is
00:19:51being a coward
00:19:51or has,
00:19:52yeah,
00:19:53found a loophole
00:19:54where it's over 60 days
00:19:55after he's not
00:19:55checked the fine print
00:19:56on your contract.
00:19:57Yeah.
00:19:57Like,
00:19:57brilliant.
00:19:58You little bastard.
00:20:00Like,
00:20:00a nice little
00:20:02narrative restriction
00:20:03that would benefit
00:20:04the show.
00:20:05This is a good example
00:20:05of a WWE one.
00:20:07They should bring it back.
00:20:07I'm in favor of rules
00:20:09and like creativity
00:20:12being dictated
00:20:14by a framework
00:20:15so you're forced
00:20:16to really think
00:20:17about what you're doing
00:20:18otherwise things
00:20:19just become meaningless.
00:20:20I will say
00:20:21it's character specific
00:20:22that Lesnar characters
00:20:24that you just said
00:20:24doesn't work
00:20:25with that specific
00:20:26kind of like
00:20:26mercenary heat work
00:20:28and people who care
00:20:29about WWE
00:20:30if he's like
00:20:31kind of a good boy.
00:20:32It's hard to defend
00:20:33this title.
00:20:33He has to hold it hostage
00:20:35if you like
00:20:35for you to want
00:20:36a baby face
00:20:37to dethrone him.
00:20:39It has to be fluid though.
00:20:40I remember
00:20:41I was really invested
00:20:43in the Fed
00:20:44and Hamflit knows this
00:20:45in 2012.
00:20:47It was just a year
00:20:48that struck me
00:20:49for whatever reason
00:20:50and towards
00:20:53like that era
00:20:54as well
00:20:54before
00:20:55just
00:20:55massacre
00:20:57Daniel Bryan
00:20:58and I was
00:20:59you know
00:21:00really upset.
00:21:02That might be a new
00:21:03character coming soon.
00:21:04We were workshopping
00:21:05him downstairs
00:21:06and then
00:21:07so I believe
00:21:08it was in late 2012
00:21:11where
00:21:12CM Punk
00:21:14jawed his knee
00:21:15and this was
00:21:16the whole
00:21:17what did it end up
00:21:19being 434 days
00:21:21this rain
00:21:21and I was thinking
00:21:22he's walking out
00:21:23like a shoot
00:21:23Orange Cassidy
00:21:24at various points
00:21:25because they were
00:21:25getting him with
00:21:26the Ryback and that
00:21:27and I was like
00:21:27oh the Ryback
00:21:28and I was like
00:21:29oh no
00:21:30you can't strip the belt
00:21:31when we know
00:21:32what they're going for
00:21:32this made up
00:21:33record that
00:21:34was impressive
00:21:35in my head
00:21:36as a big CM Punk
00:21:37mark
00:21:37it was very important
00:21:38to me that he got it
00:21:39I can't remember
00:21:40the ins and outs
00:21:42of that whole circumstance
00:21:43but he took some time
00:21:45off didn't he
00:21:46or at least didn't wrestle
00:21:47for a while
00:21:47and maybe he missed
00:21:48that window
00:21:49and if it was like
00:21:51such a firm
00:21:52and hard rule
00:21:53and he'd like
00:21:55win it back
00:21:55or whatever
00:21:56as soon as he was ready
00:21:57that wouldn't have
00:21:58worked for that character
00:21:59and that story
00:22:00so yeah
00:22:01basically what I'm saying
00:22:02is 95 times out of 100
00:22:03stick to it
00:22:04but you've got to
00:22:05leave yourself
00:22:05the wiggle room
00:22:06why I would like it now
00:22:07is because
00:22:08it's the closest
00:22:09as WWE has been
00:22:11to the era
00:22:12when it was most enforced
00:22:13which was boring
00:22:14boring
00:22:14Jack Tunney
00:22:15in his office
00:22:15like Alderson
00:22:17that's the most
00:22:18I've ever felt like you
00:22:19what's that
00:22:20just Jack Tunney
00:22:21with his
00:22:21framework
00:22:22and his order
00:22:24and his values
00:22:24for all of their
00:22:25many many faults
00:22:26as characters
00:22:27you could picture
00:22:28the two GMs
00:22:30going like
00:22:31yeah well
00:22:31there's a 30 day rule
00:22:32around here
00:22:33you know that
00:22:33you should have
00:22:34adhered to that
00:22:34they've had these jobs
00:22:36for ages now
00:22:36they're not
00:22:37they're not
00:22:37chopping and changing
00:22:38GMs all the time
00:22:39you couldn't do it
00:22:40now
00:22:41nobody was going to
00:22:42listen to Brad Nadix
00:22:43no
00:22:44like
00:22:45Vicky Guerrero
00:22:46might have done it
00:22:46strictly to benefit
00:22:48an edge or something
00:22:48but like
00:22:49this is the time
00:22:50where you probably could
00:22:50they should get
00:22:50a headmaster
00:22:51vibes guy
00:22:52like Jack Tunney
00:22:53because he looked like
00:22:54such a stern
00:22:55boring old man
00:22:57that whenever Tunney
00:22:57would appear on my
00:22:58Silver Vision videos
00:23:00my Coliseum videos
00:23:02it would feel like
00:23:04bloody hell
00:23:05we were told
00:23:06a snake had been
00:23:06de-venomized
00:23:07by the lab
00:23:08okay
00:23:09yeah
00:23:10I believed everything
00:23:11he said
00:23:12and when a wrestler
00:23:13ran afoul of Jack Tunney
00:23:15I thought they've
00:23:15taken it too far
00:23:16look they've got
00:23:16the old boring
00:23:17headmaster guy
00:23:18who's really serious
00:23:20and
00:23:20loved him
00:23:21even like
00:23:21the wrestlers
00:23:22and the commentators
00:23:22don't want him around
00:23:23oh god Tunney's
00:23:24yeah
00:23:24well
00:23:27the father
00:23:28turned that like
00:23:29that boring priest
00:23:30yeah
00:23:30you get trapped
00:23:31in conversation
00:23:31I chat with Tunney
00:23:33oh god Tunney's
00:23:34on my ass
00:23:35oh my god
00:23:37oh Tunney's
00:23:38on my ass
00:23:39he's got a real
00:23:39hard arm for me
00:23:40I've got a question
00:23:43here from
00:23:44Matt Raines
00:23:46who says
00:23:47I have a question
00:23:48that's often the
00:23:48brunt of a joke
00:23:49but right now
00:23:49makes all the sense
00:23:50in the world
00:23:50what the hell
00:23:51happened to this
00:23:52be as news
00:23:53Sidgis tweet about
00:23:54the three most
00:23:55talked about wrestlers
00:23:56this year
00:23:56really hit the nail
00:23:57on the head
00:23:57Nixon Newell
00:23:58R-Truth
00:23:58Karrion Kross
00:23:59what are we doing
00:24:01how way the lads
00:24:03well
00:24:04I heard about this tweet
00:24:06yep
00:24:07I had a little moment
00:24:08in the office
00:24:08I don't think you
00:24:09know any better
00:24:10if you do
00:24:10you're dead to me
00:24:11if you do
00:24:12I've never loved you
00:24:13more bestie
00:24:13there are two spellings
00:24:15of how way or how way
00:24:16the lads
00:24:17depending on the team
00:24:18that you support
00:24:19soccer tangent
00:24:22the Sunderland spelling
00:24:24which is
00:24:25the correct one
00:24:27the wrong one
00:24:28is
00:24:29ha
00:24:30apostrophe
00:24:31way
00:24:32the lads
00:24:34the correct one
00:24:35the good one
00:24:35is
00:24:37Newcastle's
00:24:38which is
00:24:38how way
00:24:39the lads
00:24:40who
00:24:41are
00:24:42where are you
00:24:43sorry I've got
00:24:44seven years
00:24:45I have to talk like this
00:24:46so it's
00:24:48how way
00:24:49the lads
00:24:50for future reference
00:24:51but thank you for the question
00:24:51it's excellent
00:24:52here's my take on it
00:24:54Triple H
00:24:57is literally
00:24:58the most boring
00:24:59slow bastard
00:25:00who's ever been involved
00:25:02in professional wrestling
00:25:03ever
00:25:04at least in my lifetime
00:25:05can't speak for Dory Funk Jr
00:25:07and the rest of the
00:25:09you know
00:25:09people work in Massachusetts
00:25:11in the 1940s
00:25:12but in my
00:25:13life
00:25:14Triple H
00:25:15is the slowest
00:25:16most boring
00:25:17bastard
00:25:18ever
00:25:19it comes
00:25:19there's no shock
00:25:20to me
00:25:20whatsoever
00:25:21that is
00:25:22blandly competent
00:25:23overly long
00:25:24safe
00:25:26stayed
00:25:27unambitious
00:25:28storylines
00:25:29are
00:25:30you know
00:25:30as bad
00:25:31and as uninspiring
00:25:33and as
00:25:33uncreative
00:25:34as they are
00:25:35a thought struck me
00:25:36when I saw your question
00:25:37Matt
00:25:37what would
00:25:39Triple H
00:25:40say like
00:25:42god forbid
00:25:43there ain't
00:25:44what if like
00:25:45covid 2
00:25:46happens
00:25:47right
00:25:48and it's just
00:25:49another new virus
00:25:50knocking about
00:25:51and it's all lockdown city
00:25:52and we have to do
00:25:53empty arena wrestling shows
00:25:54what would Triple H's
00:25:56fed look like
00:25:56I mean we saw what
00:25:58his NXT looked like
00:25:59yeah I know
00:25:59like absolutely
00:26:01hideous
00:26:02no imagination
00:26:03to it whatsoever
00:26:04like Vince's
00:26:05pandemic fed
00:26:06was nightmarish
00:26:07but it gave you
00:26:09something to mock
00:26:09and laugh at
00:26:10you're not poking
00:26:11somebody's eye out
00:26:12with a corner
00:26:12of a steel stick
00:26:13you know what I mean
00:26:13that is
00:26:14not happening
00:26:14it gives you something
00:26:16it's so relentlessly
00:26:17bad but also
00:26:18there are ideas
00:26:19there you cannot
00:26:20deny that aspect
00:26:22and now we head
00:26:23to the swamp
00:26:23indeed
00:26:24what does Triple H's
00:26:26look like
00:26:27it doesn't bear
00:26:27thinking about
00:26:28that tweet will
00:26:29always stick with me
00:26:30I can't even remember
00:26:30who posted it
00:26:31it was a picture
00:26:32of a Punjabi prison
00:26:33it was an on this day
00:26:34or whatever
00:26:34and someone tweeted
00:26:36Triple H's mind
00:26:37can't come up
00:26:37with this stuff
00:26:38and I was like
00:26:39you know what
00:26:39I get it
00:26:41people like it
00:26:41the stories make sense
00:26:43the characters
00:26:43are more realistic
00:26:44like whatever
00:26:45like Triple H
00:26:46will never come up
00:26:47with like
00:26:48just a wacky
00:26:49bold idea
00:26:49like that
00:26:50as long as he lives
00:26:51he is so boring
00:26:52so that accounts
00:26:53for a lot of the problem
00:26:54it truly does
00:26:55Triple H is a boring
00:26:56slow bastard
00:26:57right
00:26:57on the flip side
00:26:59of that
00:26:59AEW is the cause
00:27:01and solution
00:27:02to all of US
00:27:03wrestling's problems
00:27:04and just to elaborate
00:27:05briefly
00:27:05because I would like
00:27:06to hear Hamlet's
00:27:07take on this
00:27:07not for him
00:27:08he likes wrestling
00:27:09right now
00:27:09is that
00:27:11AEW
00:27:12on a weekly basis
00:27:15so often
00:27:16and so frequently
00:27:17satisfied
00:27:18the need
00:27:20that has existed
00:27:21since at least
00:27:222001
00:27:23of
00:27:23I could not just do
00:27:24wrestling
00:27:25good
00:27:25that isn't
00:27:26sports entertainment
00:27:27and then he had it
00:27:28in ROH
00:27:29little pockets of TNA
00:27:30here and there
00:27:31PWG
00:27:32and then when ROH
00:27:33got a little bit
00:27:34robot-y
00:27:35and Davey Edwards
00:27:36and Eddie Edwards
00:27:38robot-y
00:27:38Kia's New Japan
00:27:40amazing
00:27:41that appetite
00:27:43no longer exists
00:27:44AEW has completely
00:27:46satisfied the market
00:27:47demand for that
00:27:48for better or worse
00:27:49better
00:27:50because
00:27:51at its peak
00:27:52it's my favourite
00:27:53promotion possibly
00:27:53ever
00:27:54but
00:27:55we're all spoiled
00:27:57by it now
00:27:57I think
00:27:58to varying degrees
00:27:59even if people
00:27:59don't want to
00:28:00bring themselves
00:28:00to admit it
00:28:01it's evident
00:28:02in the ticket sales
00:28:03and the ratings
00:28:04and the noises
00:28:04in the buildings
00:28:05we're all full
00:28:06it's okay
00:28:07to admit it
00:28:08you need the copium
00:28:08in your life
00:28:10I don't necessarily
00:28:11go with it
00:28:13but at the same time
00:28:15because it's done
00:28:17such a great job
00:28:19too good if anything
00:28:19of satisfying
00:28:20that need
00:28:21I think
00:28:22it becomes
00:28:23the be all
00:28:23and end all
00:28:24because that need
00:28:25that itch has been
00:28:26scratched
00:28:26so you don't get
00:28:27a PWG
00:28:28and ROH
00:28:29or
00:28:29an expanded
00:28:32into the US
00:28:32New Japan
00:28:33you don't have
00:28:33anything like that
00:28:34so because
00:28:35AEW
00:28:37has removed
00:28:39any and all
00:28:40USPs
00:28:41from the indies
00:28:42and we are
00:28:42recording this
00:28:43the Monday
00:28:44after the weekend
00:28:45news of
00:28:46Deadlock Pro
00:28:47potentially shuttering
00:28:48for good
00:28:48like
00:28:50because
00:28:50it feels
00:28:51at times
00:28:52like the be all
00:28:52and end all
00:28:53like
00:28:54I would like
00:28:55to know
00:28:55what AEW
00:28:56how it would be
00:28:57received
00:28:58if there was
00:28:58kind of a thriving
00:28:59hotbed
00:29:00of an indie
00:29:01style wrestling
00:29:01elsewhere in the
00:29:02States
00:29:03which by the way
00:29:04I think
00:29:04AEW
00:29:04would just
00:29:05gobble up
00:29:05and like
00:29:06have as
00:29:07its other
00:29:07new thing
00:29:08because they've
00:29:09got their ears
00:29:09to the ground
00:29:10and they go
00:29:11for that sort
00:29:11of wrestling
00:29:12loving
00:29:12discerning
00:29:13hardcore
00:29:14fan
00:29:14which is
00:29:15another
00:29:15conversation
00:29:16I don't
00:29:16think anything
00:29:17can grow
00:29:17with AEW
00:29:18in place
00:29:19right now
00:29:20because they
00:29:20would just
00:29:20gobble it
00:29:21up
00:29:21remember
00:29:21when like
00:29:22PWG's
00:29:23lucha doors
00:29:24were getting
00:29:24a little
00:29:24oh no
00:29:24we love
00:29:25them
00:29:25yeah
00:29:25you know
00:29:26it's
00:29:26so with
00:29:28AEW
00:29:28because they've
00:29:29kind of
00:29:30greedily
00:29:30taken over
00:29:31everything
00:29:31for themselves
00:29:32as this kind
00:29:33of like
00:29:33custodian of
00:29:34the hardcore
00:29:34wrestling fan
00:29:35if you like
00:29:35it is
00:29:37positioned itself
00:29:38as the be all
00:29:39and end all
00:29:39and because
00:29:40sometimes it's
00:29:41pretty flat and
00:29:41uninspiring
00:29:42we are in it
00:29:43now post
00:29:44all in Texas
00:29:45I feel like
00:29:46I feel like it
00:29:46is almost
00:29:47I'm very
00:29:49guilty of
00:29:49just scrutinizing
00:29:50it to death
00:29:51expecting the
00:29:52highest standards
00:29:52possible because
00:29:53you did it
00:29:53I mean you
00:29:54didn't want to
00:29:55kill New Japan
00:29:56as a concern
00:29:57for stateside
00:29:58fans but
00:29:59you did
00:30:00through no
00:30:01fault of your
00:30:01own not a
00:30:02deliberate
00:30:02hatchet job but
00:30:03that was kind
00:30:04of always going
00:30:04to happen
00:30:05there's no need
00:30:06for an ROH
00:30:07anymore because
00:30:08while they got
00:30:08good matches
00:30:09you do them
00:30:09every week
00:30:10in bigger
00:30:11flashier
00:30:12buildings
00:30:13and I think
00:30:15AEW's existence
00:30:16was the
00:30:16problem and
00:30:17cause of and
00:30:18solution to the
00:30:19problems in
00:30:21US wrestling
00:30:21and now you
00:30:23don't have any
00:30:24problems you don't
00:30:24have any solutions
00:30:25you got AEW
00:30:25liking a lump
00:30:26but some weeks
00:30:27it's crap and
00:30:27wrestling feels
00:30:28dead
00:30:28New Japan is
00:30:31still feeling
00:30:33the effects of
00:30:34what ultimately
00:30:35became a very
00:30:36excessive approach
00:30:37where those 20
00:30:38minute Tanahashi
00:30:39matches became
00:30:4030 minute
00:30:40Okada matches
00:30:42become
00:30:4235 minute
00:30:44matches because
00:30:45failing to heed
00:30:47the lessons of
00:30:47the Kings
00:30:48Road more
00:30:49has to be
00:30:50more more
00:30:51counters more
00:30:51head drops
00:30:52now it's the
00:30:55worst style to
00:30:56do for that
00:30:57long because
00:30:58I am so full
00:30:59of New Japan
00:31:00like so full
00:31:01and it's been
00:31:02five years
00:31:04after they
00:31:05strapped up
00:31:05evil and that
00:31:06was the defining
00:31:07image of all
00:31:07that's finished
00:31:08yeah good job
00:31:09yeah good job
00:31:10AEW's doing a
00:31:11good job in this
00:31:11pandemic because
00:31:12New Japan is
00:31:13formally finished
00:31:13and now when I
00:31:14see a you know
00:31:16a Yota Tsuji
00:31:1620 minute main
00:31:18event it can only
00:31:19feel oh that was
00:31:20really good it can
00:31:21never reach those
00:31:22heights of like
00:31:22Okada Tanahashi
00:31:23Naito Nakamura
00:31:25Omega like ZSJ
00:31:27Osprey Shingo it's
00:31:29like it's just not
00:31:29as good and because
00:31:31there's so many
00:31:32years of great New
00:31:33Japan product and
00:31:34it still feels and
00:31:36looks like the
00:31:37resurgence era I
00:31:38just can't get into
00:31:39it the booking has
00:31:40its own problems
00:31:40like it has that
00:31:42sort of where so
00:31:43over it's it's so
00:31:44back where so over
00:31:45cycle of like oh
00:31:47they do a good
00:31:48show then House of
00:31:49Torture run amok
00:31:49three weeks later and
00:31:50I just know well
00:31:51that's not for me I'm
00:31:52not going to watch
00:31:53it CMLL has had an
00:31:54unbelievable year at
00:31:55the box office putting
00:31:57forth several match
00:31:58of the year contenders
00:31:59and I'm weighing up
00:32:01whether to put a
00:32:01CMLL match at the
00:32:02top of my match of
00:32:03the year list so I
00:32:05don't want to like
00:32:05just do this whole big
00:32:06sweeping everything's
00:32:07broken evidently it's
00:32:09not commercially and
00:32:11critically CMLL having
00:32:13it a wonderful year
00:32:14and people loving
00:32:15Ceri's work there's
00:32:16good there's good
00:32:17stuff out there but
00:32:18yeah I think through
00:32:21almost no fault of
00:32:22its own this all of
00:32:24just sort of bludgeoned
00:32:25through the wrestling
00:32:25landscape with this
00:32:27sort of well
00:32:27intentioned like
00:32:29clumsiness almost
00:32:31AEW is not
00:32:34blameless at all and
00:32:35Triple H is really
00:32:36really dull
00:32:37speaking that's my
00:32:39twice favorite book
00:32:40ever speaking of
00:32:41the like the North
00:32:43American mainstream
00:32:44because it's the scene
00:32:44I can speak best to
00:32:45historically there was
00:32:47always the and it was
00:32:48framed as an excuse
00:32:49sometimes but I think
00:32:50it's true as well I
00:32:51think both things can
00:32:51be true there was
00:32:52always this idea that
00:32:53like the brazen
00:32:53cyclical career like
00:32:55that was often a way to
00:32:57excuse some bad
00:32:58booking or some bad
00:32:59houses but what's
00:33:00true and what is
00:33:01cyclical is that
00:33:03wrestling historically
00:33:05we're in it now fails
00:33:07to acknowledge
00:33:09something that you
00:33:10instill in your kids
00:33:11from the youngest age
00:33:12which is that actions
00:33:13have consequences so
00:33:14whatever a boom period
00:33:16brings for any form
00:33:18of like North American
00:33:19mainstream wrestling
00:33:20there will be
00:33:21consequences to those
00:33:22actions and this
00:33:23probably you can like
00:33:25all American wrestling
00:33:26starts in 1985 but
00:33:29no like Vince McMahon
00:33:30taking over the
00:33:31territories I like the
00:33:3184 thing I was like
00:33:33even then I don't even
00:33:34really want to watch
00:33:3586 to be honest but
00:33:36yeah Wrestlemania is
00:33:37like the death of the
00:33:40territories in as much
00:33:42as Vince McMahon is a
00:33:43total bastard about how
00:33:44he does it is like in
00:33:47hindsight something that
00:33:48feels inevitable it's
00:33:50just that he does it in
00:33:51the most deadliest and
00:33:52cruelest and fastest but
00:33:53that is itself a model
00:33:55that is going to
00:33:56eventually kind of eat
00:33:57itself you know this
00:33:58idea that like a
00:34:00wrestler could continue
00:34:01to well got over over
00:34:03there and now we're going
00:34:03over there to get over
00:34:04again channel 106 and
00:34:06little cock Arkansas has
00:34:07been the home of little
00:34:08cock wrestling for 80
00:34:10years and it will be the
00:34:11home forever welcome to
00:34:12cable bitch you hear a
00:34:13bunch yeah you're a bunch
00:34:14of people that say like
00:34:16as soon as like cable
00:34:17little cock wrestling has
00:34:18got a proud lineage
00:34:19little cock and tiny
00:34:20balls championship here
00:34:21will be defended we of
00:34:23course had a
00:34:24I mean that's an
00:34:25antique yeah we had a
00:34:26sad lad on our house I
00:34:27could watch six wrestling
00:34:28shows on a Saturday and
00:34:29it's like right well I was
00:34:30going to kill it then
00:34:30because you said the
00:34:31guy that you've just
00:34:32seen that like that
00:34:33required that have these
00:34:34very very like narrow like
00:34:35these walled gardens
00:34:36yes that was gonna go
00:34:37and Vincent Mann just did
00:34:38it in like the meanest
00:34:39and capitalistic way
00:34:40possible but you know so
00:34:41that happens and when the
00:34:44sort of you get to the
00:34:45early 90s and all of a
00:34:47sudden everybody's kind
00:34:48of bored of this one size
00:34:50fits all mainstream pro
00:34:51wrestling thing and in the
00:34:52meantime the closest
00:34:53competitor in WCW
00:34:55thought copy that like
00:34:57you've got nothing you've
00:34:59got absolutely nothing
00:34:59hence a boom dies
00:35:01wrestling falls from the
00:35:02mainstream and for all
00:35:03intents and purposes a
00:35:04bunch of people just
00:35:04think our wrestling's
00:35:05finished like because it
00:35:06disappeared from view
00:35:07like a lot of people
00:35:08would just believe like
00:35:09when did that wrestling
00:35:10get going like 98 or
00:35:11something yeah that's
00:35:12just how people view it
00:35:13they're not in this
00:35:14bubble that we're in
00:35:14right likewise uh the
00:35:1690s like Monday Night
00:35:17Wars boom the same thing
00:35:18again you get crash TV
00:35:20you get this constant
00:35:21thirst for like like can
00:35:22you top this and it's
00:35:23insane and it's destined
00:35:25to put one or the other
00:35:26out well I guess Triple H
00:35:27is going to get a cock out
00:35:29on Raw I want to watch
00:35:30Nitro because you're
00:35:31probably going to see
00:35:31Triple H's cock in about
00:35:32three minutes after some
00:35:34words from our sponsors
00:35:35that was legitimately a
00:35:36hook we've been through
00:35:37this yeah and like Vince
00:35:39McMahon is a super soaker
00:35:40full of what was meant to
00:35:41become yeah what what we
00:35:43all got loved it yeah yeah
00:35:45I mean you loved it as
00:35:46well don't I like you're
00:35:47above it when we actually
00:35:48watched you that's pretty
00:35:48classic yeah it's brick
00:35:52dick and it's made for the
00:35:54chickens I wouldn't think
00:35:57these actions would have
00:35:58consequences but they did
00:35:59yeah like Vince McMahon
00:36:00said it it was a good line
00:36:01but it was also true like
00:36:02to defeat a billionaire
00:36:03I had to become a
00:36:04billionaire he basically
00:36:04kind of created something
00:36:05that resembled a TV
00:36:06network to defeat a TV
00:36:07network and then there's
00:36:08absolutely nothing for 20
00:36:09years right there's the
00:36:11consequence of that and
00:36:12it's a pretty fat
00:36:13f***ing consequence right
00:36:14so AEW launches and we
00:36:16enter this this I think
00:36:182019 is as good a line in
00:36:19the sand as 1985 in many
00:36:20respects or 1995 with
00:36:22nitro and and that was
00:36:27there wasn't much in 20
00:36:28years but that thing I
00:36:29know that was one of them
00:36:30the six good things from
00:36:3220 years of absolute
00:36:33s***
00:36:33Sid has outlined everything
00:36:37and we've done this
00:36:38before we've articulated
00:36:38everything that ultimately
00:36:40was destined to happen
00:36:41with AEW again we are now
00:36:42in the consequences era of
00:36:44AEW's growth and success
00:36:47and then ultimately you did
00:36:48too much
00:36:48I told you kid you didn't
00:36:51do much I don't think I
00:36:52mentioned this in a
00:36:53podcast yet but I sent it
00:36:54to Sid when I read it
00:36:55there was a young books
00:36:56interview a couple of
00:36:56months ago and it like it
00:36:58just really stuck with me
00:36:59because there's a great it's
00:37:00the last great arc in the
00:37:02American office which is
00:37:03when Michael Scott briefly
00:37:05leaves Dunder Mifflin and
00:37:06forms the Michael Scott
00:37:07paper company and then
00:37:08makes a surprising success
00:37:09of it because Dunder
00:37:10Mifflin's methods were
00:37:11becoming archaic and
00:37:12Michael Scott was a
00:37:13beloved salesman who was
00:37:14actually it's like by a
00:37:16series of little miracles
00:37:17was able to make the
00:37:18Michael Scott paper company
00:37:19overnight this
00:37:20profitable thing but
00:37:21there's a point where
00:37:22like it gets a bit hard
00:37:22because there's only a
00:37:23couple of them and he's
00:37:24like he's Michael Scott
00:37:25he's a man baby he's
00:37:26kind of learning as he
00:37:27goes no it's actually
00:37:28really really difficult to
00:37:29run a successful paper
00:37:30company against the main
00:37:31like sort of like the
00:37:32main paper company and
00:37:34then so he goes for like
00:37:35he leaves like it's Pam
00:37:36and Ryan and he leaves
00:37:37them in his little office
00:37:38for a second he goes
00:37:38outside and he's sick of
00:37:40these two man maybe I
00:37:42need to leave the
00:37:43Michael Scott paper
00:37:43company and form my own
00:37:44paper company and it's
00:37:45like he's not spotting
00:37:47what's happening there the
00:37:47young books interview is
00:37:48like yeah we're thinking
00:37:49about buying maybe PWG
00:37:51and getting that off the
00:37:52ground again it's like
00:37:52you did it it's called
00:37:53only in wrestling pal
00:37:55but you did it you did
00:37:57it right you can't just
00:37:58like buy those
00:37:58emissions like we're
00:37:59going to reopen
00:38:00receiver two it's like
00:38:02no that was what this
00:38:03was and you've done it
00:38:04and you've made it but
00:38:04it's that moment of like
00:38:05there's this like they
00:38:07don't realize they're
00:38:07saying it they're just
00:38:08being like trying to be
00:38:10like what gregarious and
00:38:11that they really believe
00:38:12like and as they should
00:38:13they've done a lot of
00:38:14amazing good for wrestling
00:38:15the young books deserve
00:38:16to be in that list with
00:38:16Cody and the rest of
00:38:17like left it better than
00:38:18they found it you know
00:38:18when they stubbornly
00:38:20talk about the jobs
00:38:21they created I kind of
00:38:21get where they're coming
00:38:22from it's like we get
00:38:23criticized for everything
00:38:23we do but like look how
00:38:24many jobs they're right
00:38:25you know they're just
00:38:26irritating but they're
00:38:27right you know they are
00:38:28but they're right and so
00:38:30but that just really stuck
00:38:31out to me it's like yep
00:38:32like actions consequences
00:38:34we have reached this
00:38:35point now so what I'm
00:38:37saying is like this was
00:38:39inevitable with that 20
00:38:42year period everything's
00:38:44inevitable so much of the
00:38:45what AEW gave out was
00:38:47because there was 20
00:38:48years of a booker that
00:38:51was this withholding piece
00:38:53of garbage that you were
00:38:54constantly encouraged to
00:38:56think of the things you
00:38:56wanted because you weren't
00:38:57getting them over here
00:38:58like 52 rows and
00:39:00smackdowns a year and not
00:39:01one week did you get
00:39:02something you wanted like
00:39:03so as a result what's
00:39:05that meme sorry it's from
00:39:07a cartoon where some
00:39:10creature is like and it
00:39:12forms a perfect circle has
00:39:14what looks like 300
00:39:15cigarettes in the mouth
00:39:16have you seen this
00:39:17that's AW that everything
00:39:22you wanted or missed the
00:39:24backlog oh it's doing the
00:39:25first two years the
00:39:26arsehole boom and now it's
00:39:28like all right you had a
00:39:28checklist I remember you
00:39:30talk about it regularly
00:39:30I'm full
00:39:31WWE was the last one left
00:39:33on a mainstream scale yes
00:39:35a bunch of alternatives
00:39:37rise up but they can only
00:39:39get to a certain level and
00:39:40whether like ring of on a
00:39:41hard cause TNA fans want to
00:39:43admit it or not that was
00:39:45probably the era where it
00:39:46most established at the
00:39:47WWE this is the dance
00:39:48because you would want your
00:39:50ring of on a favorite to
00:39:51actually make it in the
00:39:52fed yeah it was became like
00:39:53a default thing didn't it
00:39:54you know and it was like
00:39:55CM Punk built himself in
00:39:57ring of honor in such a
00:39:57way physically in every
00:39:59respect really to to make
00:40:00it in the fed to prove the
00:40:02fed round that was like
00:40:04this strange thing like TNA
00:40:05wrestlers that like you
00:40:06know I'm watching friggin
00:40:08James Storm like come in as
00:40:11Brayton Walker knock
00:40:11brains out and it's like
00:40:12this is going horribly
00:40:14wrong Chris Harris yeah
00:40:15Chris Harris sorry but
00:40:16he's a TNA guy so I
00:40:17want it to work for a
00:40:17minute before it fails
00:40:18horribly and he falls flat
00:40:19on his face like um
00:40:21you know like ultimately
00:40:26the amount of withholding
00:40:28that Vincent Mann did as a
00:40:29booker like gave you 20
00:40:31years not 12 like what the
00:40:34monopoly was what 17
00:40:34years yeah yeah 17 years
00:40:37of even when it happened a
00:40:38bit in ring of honor it
00:40:39happened a bit in TNA you
00:40:40actually wanted to see it
00:40:41happen on the proper
00:40:42telly and AEW did it like
00:40:43delivered one after another
00:40:45after another all those
00:40:45things like we're not going
00:40:46to withhold anything
00:40:47anymore and then like that
00:40:49they do it and by about
00:40:502022 they've done most of
00:40:52it and then in the most
00:40:53unlikely of circumstances
00:40:54Vince isn't even there
00:40:55anymore so like me as a
00:40:59wrestling fan has never
00:41:00felt more satiated AEW has
00:41:01paid off all of these
00:41:02things that Vincent Mann
00:41:03withheld and then me you
00:41:05kind of just wants the fed
00:41:06to be good all along gets
00:41:07that like the consequences
00:41:10are there's a lot of us
00:41:12within it's a big bubble
00:41:12but a lot of us in this
00:41:14bubble are just exhausted
00:41:14and then just to speak
00:41:16briefly on some of the new
00:41:17fans that I don't think we
00:41:18can speak to that I can't
00:41:20speak on new WWE fans I
00:41:22don't know what that I don't
00:41:23know all of what that
00:41:24experience is but I do know
00:41:26that my kids were hooked
00:41:27after the Royal Rumble this
00:41:28year infographics wrestlers
00:41:30instant stories that that one
00:41:33night got them if they were
00:41:34even a little bit interested
00:41:35because it was dad's work
00:41:36is that the SummerSlam
00:41:371989 proper like you
00:41:39remember how they
00:41:39presented the Rumble this
00:41:40year it's on Netflix you
00:41:42know like it was always
00:41:43just dad's work it's
00:41:43wrestling whatever
00:41:44Exposition City Exposition
00:41:45City Jones easily visible
00:41:47watched it over and over
00:41:48and over again and then all
00:41:50of a sudden new 60
00:41:50wrestlers and we're on the
00:41:51road to Wrestlemania like
00:41:52no better time all that
00:41:53kind of thing I've told the
00:41:54story in a podcast already
00:41:55Joshua my youngest the one
00:41:57of the two that's really
00:41:58like wrestling got his
00:41:59hooks into him this year
00:42:00like like belts and
00:42:01everything got belts
00:42:02loves Cody Rhodes as far as
00:42:04his dad's yeah top star
00:42:06Cody Rhodes you know it's
00:42:07like who's your favorite
00:42:08where's the biggest and
00:42:09most promoted one yeah I
00:42:10was an over warrior kid I
00:42:11get it uh like has he got
00:42:14a Giannetti well because my
00:42:16favorite was Hulk but
00:42:17obviously I love Marty
00:42:18Giannetti everyone's got
00:42:19their proto work rate well
00:42:20yes but it's a weird one
00:42:22it's Tamatonga right well
00:42:24like yeah yeah yeah daft for
00:42:27him and again like this is
00:42:29this this weird MFT thing
00:42:30happening on Smackdown
00:42:31but I think I've told you
00:42:32both and I think I've
00:42:33said on a pod uh the whole
00:42:34Seth Rollins situation's
00:42:35happening and then you get
00:42:36a kind of couple of
00:42:37payoffs and he might miss
00:42:38a roar along the way
00:42:39and he's like oh so
00:42:40Seth Rollins is there
00:42:41Ronnie Garvin yeah probably
00:42:43I said what's happening
00:42:45now that Seth's not got
00:42:45the belt and I said oh
00:42:46it's it's worked CM Punk
00:42:47was an M1 contender
00:42:48obviously and Jay used
00:42:49to have won that battle
00:42:50Royal on Raw and he went
00:42:52oh ends up Saturday night
00:42:53main event again and like
00:42:56Punk and Jay haven't
00:42:57wrestled a lot but what a
00:42:5810-year-old is telling
00:42:59you is I'm over these
00:43:01yeah and I'm just can
00:43:02I have some new ones
00:43:03because that's how you
00:43:03feel when you're 10 can
00:43:04I have some new ones it's
00:43:06brutal but it's fair you
00:43:07know it's worked magic on
00:43:09me back in the day I
00:43:10didn't realize we're all
00:43:11getting drugged out yeah
00:43:13suspended and criminals I
00:43:15was like ah new ones yes
00:43:16like Wrestlemania 8
00:43:17you figures
00:43:18Wrestlemania 8 right
00:43:19Hogan's going away uh and
00:43:22you know what the real
00:43:23life reasons are but it's
00:43:23like that's fine because
00:43:24like the Warriors just
00:43:25come back everything's
00:43:25fine Warriors gonna
00:43:26wrestle Sid Sid has
00:43:27disappeared that's like a
00:43:28Papa Shango but you're
00:43:29just fine but that level
00:43:31of like that's three weeks
00:43:32I'm describing there and
00:43:33like that's how many
00:43:34things they've had to turn
00:43:35through that doesn't
00:43:36happen anymore and nor
00:43:37should it I suppose but
00:43:38like if you are one of
00:43:40these now it doesn't if
00:43:41you are one of these new
00:43:41fans that the last two or
00:43:42three years look at like
00:43:44who we talk about when we
00:43:45talk about the main
00:43:46events you've seen them
00:43:47all you've seen them all
00:43:47you've seen most them
00:43:48feud with one another the
00:43:49Drew McIntyre thing that
00:43:51Sage came up with is a
00:43:51good example you've seen
00:43:52that character do the same
00:43:53thing for two years I
00:43:54would argue that's fine
00:43:56because it has involved
00:43:58one of the best stories
00:43:59of recent times yeah but
00:44:01enough now enough and
00:44:04there's a lot done is
00:44:04done I think that's why
00:44:05I'm feeling like the
00:44:06Cody Rhodes heel turn
00:44:07would be really well
00:44:08timed if it happens in
00:44:09the next six months I do
00:44:10I'm hearing the crowds
00:44:11getting quiet in the
00:44:12matches like has this
00:44:13audience for the first
00:44:14time ran out of steam
00:44:15with the top baby face
00:44:16nothing wrong in that
00:44:17yeah but acknowledge it
00:44:18and change accordingly
00:44:19well on the topic of
00:44:21that Adam Powell says
00:44:23could you see Papa
00:44:24H being replaced or
00:44:25given a reduced role by
00:44:26TKO in 2026 I love
00:44:29that we're in an era
00:44:29where that can happen
00:44:30we've said almost with a
00:44:32bit of despair that like
00:44:34if like Tony Khan won't
00:44:36he's obviously a much
00:44:38different and in many
00:44:40many ways better version
00:44:42of Vince McMahon but
00:44:43there is an autocracy in
00:44:44place there and he ain't
00:44:46going nowhere unless he
00:44:47wants to so you have to
00:44:48assume he's not so then
00:44:49you see the foibles and
00:44:50you're like I can't do
00:44:50anything like those
00:44:51foibles I kind of love
00:44:53that this is how WWE
00:44:54set up it's never
00:44:55happened in our lifetime
00:44:55when it happened in
00:44:57WCW it's ridiculous
00:44:59like they got it right
00:45:00once and it was with
00:45:01Eric Bischoff
00:45:01Kip Allen Fry the
00:45:03talent loved him but
00:45:04the numbers weren't
00:45:05good enough to justify
00:45:06his role but
00:45:07ultimately that was a
00:45:07TV company that would
00:45:08like look at graphs
00:45:09and make choices
00:45:10accordingly so
00:45:11naturally Eric Bischoff
00:45:12got the job and the
00:45:12graphs went whoosh like
00:45:13that and he kept his job
00:45:14for years and got more
00:45:16power and got more
00:45:17confidence and you know
00:45:18everything that happened
00:45:19with WCW never been
00:45:20the case in WWE I love
00:45:22at the moment this
00:45:22idea that WWE could
00:45:24potentially be getting
00:45:25penalized for bad
00:45:26booking and tickets
00:45:27being too expensive by
00:45:29looking at crowd
00:45:29comparisons I love it
00:45:30more of that I want
00:45:31I don't want to see
00:45:32buildings half full but
00:45:34I do want WWE to kind
00:45:35of like have the
00:45:36consequences of those
00:45:37actions you know so
00:45:38tickets go back down so
00:45:39that like somebody has
00:45:41to go right well
00:45:42people aren't happy
00:45:43there's 12,000 people
00:45:44here last year now
00:45:44there's six that means
00:45:46something you know and
00:45:47if one of those graphs
00:45:48gets looked at by
00:45:49somebody in TKO
00:45:51it's ruthless you'll
00:45:53never read Triple H
00:45:54Fired you'll read we'd
00:45:55like to thank Paul
00:45:56for his amazing work
00:45:57we've got this really
00:45:57exciting position from
00:45:58that we need him to
00:45:59take up over here but
00:46:00you know what's
00:46:00happening yeah like I
00:46:03think that would be
00:46:03incredible because the
00:46:04next guy that comes in
00:46:05knows that the stakes
00:46:06are just as high and
00:46:07they get like you got
00:46:08about six months pal
00:46:09like you better we want
00:46:11instant results so you
00:46:12best convince the rock
00:46:13that he needs to wrestle
00:46:14this show you best sign
00:46:15this guy you best your
00:46:16first tempo story in
00:46:18his language your first
00:46:20tempo storyline better
00:46:21kick ass and be like
00:46:23the perfect rumble a
00:46:24WrestleMania run for
00:46:24insert superstar a like
00:46:26I've shown the pen book
00:46:28the rock you joke I
00:46:31don't think he'd want
00:46:32it in a million billion
00:46:33years which was
00:46:34happiest in his life but
00:46:35I'd love I'd love to see
00:46:37it main roster NXT yes
00:46:39please yeah I'm like
00:46:41sure like to Citrix point
00:46:44about what Triple H
00:46:44doesn't do Sean
00:46:46Michaels has done it
00:46:47all twice over in
00:46:48NXT yeah and Adam
00:46:50Pierce thanks but no
00:46:50thanks I think we've
00:46:51got a new general
00:46:52manager for Monday
00:46:53Night Raw don't worry
00:46:54about that one and
00:46:54there's a reason right
00:46:55she's coming to the
00:46:57big leagues there is a
00:47:01people rip the piss out
00:47:02of him for it and
00:47:03rightfully so but there
00:47:04is a reason why Triple
00:47:05H loves uploading them
00:47:06videos where showing
00:47:06people how to do their
00:47:07entrances right because
00:47:08he knows that he was
00:47:10always just going to be a
00:47:11guy and then it
00:47:12mattered what it's
00:47:14going to sound like I'm
00:47:14taking the piss it
00:47:15mattered when he spat
00:47:16his water yeah and that
00:47:17was a big thing for him
00:47:18Shawn Michaels could
00:47:19actually go so like he
00:47:21might like he kind of
00:47:22what was that thing we
00:47:22were watching his desk
00:47:23where he was like putting
00:47:24he said it didn't matter
00:47:25that Brett stumble
00:47:26bumbleed once or
00:47:26he was Brett fucking
00:47:27hard yeah and that's
00:47:28Shawn Michaels saying
00:47:29that you know like he
00:47:30could stumble bumble but
00:47:31people believe in the
00:47:31hitman so that's all it
00:47:32matters Sean was
00:47:33actually a one of the
00:47:34best ever yeah
00:47:35Triple H played one
00:47:36yeah
00:47:37Triple H is part of the
00:47:38triple threat I think
00:47:39you'll find that was the
00:47:39name they had for I saw
00:47:42like yesterday he's
00:47:42doing the rounds like
00:47:44on the triple the
00:47:45red like there Shane
00:47:46Douglas that guy and
00:47:48it's funny because he
00:47:48hated him weird that
00:47:49let's see uh Sige
00:47:52Triple H replaced in
00:47:54twenty twenty six
00:47:54um I don't think it's
00:47:57happening anytime soon
00:47:58but no no he's done
00:48:00well to and this is not
00:48:02an insight but he's done
00:48:04well to position himself
00:48:05as the Fed Dana White
00:48:06the great orchestrator the
00:48:09great conductor the
00:48:11architect of heart fed
00:48:13coming out opening
00:48:15which shows he opens
00:48:16not opening which shows
00:48:18he doesn't
00:48:18booking himself as the
00:48:22creative genius of
00:48:23unreal might bite him in
00:48:26the arse because now
00:48:28he's almost synonymous
00:48:29with WWE and the way
00:48:30Vince was so effective
00:48:31marketing but what if
00:48:33the first thing you think
00:48:35of is WWE and this
00:48:37down fall in popularity
00:48:39continues and he just
00:48:41feels like well you
00:48:43can't sack the players
00:48:44but you can sack the
00:48:45manager yeah did the
00:48:47AW houses sort of like
00:48:50half and half and half
00:48:51again is that kind of
00:48:52how it's gone roughly
00:48:53over like a five-year
00:48:53period yeah you know
00:48:55that's like that's a
00:48:56reasonable comparison
00:48:58to use with WWE like
00:48:59again it's maybe not
00:49:00year on year but town
00:49:01we're doing like a lot of
00:49:03sixes I think and like
00:49:04pictures late 2021
00:49:06early 2022 so like
00:49:08oh look you have to
00:49:09get 1500 you know
00:49:10residency I'll have to
00:49:11lie again they're gonna
00:49:13get 4000 for button
00:49:14guts or whatever but
00:49:14that's probably an
00:49:15outlier the house is a
00:49:16crap Vince couldn't
00:49:17sack himself when he
00:49:18was like I'm gonna have
00:49:18to run a friggin
00:49:19Manhattan center for
00:49:20raw yeah he couldn't
00:49:21like if Triple H
00:49:22proposes that to you
00:49:23we're thinking we're
00:49:24actually gonna start
00:49:25running the smaller
00:49:26residences save for you
00:49:28Bob and all that what
00:49:28do you reckon TKO
00:49:29we're gonna kill you
00:49:31yeah yeah yeah we're
00:49:32gonna kick your ass
00:49:33speaking of blood and
00:49:35guts shout out to
00:49:36Mark Lee Willis thank
00:49:37you for your question
00:49:37re blood and guts I'll
00:49:39save that for the
00:49:40dynamite preview because
00:49:41it sent us around
00:49:42crazy moments in that
00:49:43potential match and
00:49:44the book shot Larry
00:49:45spot you have to leave
00:49:46that with us will you
00:49:47because you won't get
00:49:47to preview that yeah
00:49:48busy but I'll forward
00:49:50that on but let's fly
00:49:52through some final
00:49:53questions as we wrap
00:49:54things up a bit of a
00:49:55speed round here
00:49:55Jay Fraser says what
00:49:58venue do you think could
00:49:59make a great wrestling
00:50:00show in terms of
00:50:01aesthetic and atmosphere
00:50:02personally I think
00:50:03Wimbledon's center
00:50:04court and maybe the
00:50:04crucible oh the
00:50:06crucible would be like
00:50:07yeah the crucible would
00:50:08be dynamite and then
00:50:09Wimbledon would be when
00:50:10it's back on top because
00:50:11obviously tennis was
00:50:12yeah I read this
00:50:14question earlier and I
00:50:15was trying to think of a
00:50:16cruise equivalent because
00:50:18I just loved oh yeah I
00:50:20love the cruise episode
00:50:21of dynamite so god damn
00:50:23much so I don't know what
00:50:24it would necessarily be but
00:50:26less historic venues
00:50:28repurposed for wrestling and
00:50:29more kind of fun different
00:50:31unusual locales I don't
00:50:34know how many times I
00:50:35keep having to say the
00:50:36sphere but I'll just put
00:50:37that out there the
00:50:38sphere and incredible for
00:50:40that UFC show I mean
00:50:41tickets were insane you're
00:50:42never gonna you know sell
00:50:43your house to go and see
00:50:44that show but the visuals
00:50:45looked amazing yeah I
00:50:47don't know if it'd be safe
00:50:48because all right Jeff
00:50:51Hardy was he gonna come
00:50:52out with the king the king
00:50:53of the road match what was
00:50:54the the classic
00:50:55like you know like it's all
00:51:00like Saturday you know
00:51:01Saudi Arabia deal and that
00:51:02it's all everything's like
00:51:04really disgusting wealth
00:51:05now and that's what's like
00:51:06popular the influence is not
00:51:07a massive on top of a
00:51:10skyscraper like I don't know
00:51:12if like people are like
00:51:13blown off the side or
00:51:14something
00:51:14or Baron could choke
00:51:15someone off
00:51:15perfect yeah but like yeah
00:51:18but like a shoot top of a
00:51:19skyscraper you got the
00:51:20drones and the helicopters
00:51:21like showing the ring you
00:51:22know like WCW used to go
00:51:23pretty big with their daft
00:51:24ideas yeah it's like by
00:51:25bash at the beach there's
00:51:27300,000 people on this
00:51:28but you could say it
00:51:30because you had a
00:51:31helicopter shot of a full
00:51:32beach I just put a bunch
00:51:33of people on top of it
00:51:34raw on the roof I remember
00:51:37I was very skittish about
00:51:39things reopening mid
00:51:42pando like I just everyone
00:51:45else's love enough crowds
00:51:46are coming back and I was
00:51:47thinking is it the right
00:51:48thing with you and me I was
00:51:50thinking oh I used to do
00:51:51a summer series at a beach
00:51:52yeah it's outdoors you know
00:51:55I thought for a while that's
00:51:55what they were going to do
00:51:56when USC had to relocate
00:51:58they were like they teased
00:52:00they teased they teased a
00:52:03UFC cage on the beach and
00:52:04I was like oh I have to
00:52:06watch every fight that
00:52:06that was incredible like
00:52:07something like something
00:52:08out of like Tekken or
00:52:09whatever yeah it's just in
00:52:11a building in a building but
00:52:13on a beach yeah yeah no
00:52:14beaches beaches with good
00:52:17things instead of bash at
00:52:19the beach 95 yeah that's
00:52:21where I would be head wise
00:52:22with that uh question here
00:52:24from a jungle oh yeah I
00:52:27oh rumble in the jungle
00:52:29royal rumble in the jungle
00:52:30perfect uh question here
00:52:32from I mean you see like
00:52:33the backyarders and you see
00:52:34these like desolate Iowa
00:52:36landscapes it just looks a
00:52:38bit low rent gritty
00:52:40AW did one of those holes
00:52:43like IWA mid-south or
00:52:45whatever like I'd quite like
00:52:46that sort of like I don't know
00:52:49that sort of America dive
00:52:51aesthetic maybe question from
00:52:54Mr. Jeans that's kind of
00:52:56what I want and I want it
00:52:58now I want jeans because I'm
00:53:01Mr. Jeans based on the
00:53:04current wrestling news what
00:53:05are the best examples of
00:53:06wrestlers maximizing their
00:53:07minutes and going on to
00:53:08become bigger stars
00:53:09swerves the ultimate example
00:53:11modern wise like he's a guy
00:53:13who came in and yeah he got
00:53:15like the pay-per-view debut but
00:53:17it wasn't like the CM Punk
00:53:18run wasn't the Danielson and
00:53:21he came in right do some
00:53:23tag spots you can lose to
00:53:25Derby and Orange and all the
00:53:27rest of it and like big TV
00:53:29matches and there's never
00:53:32any ceiling in AW you can do
00:53:34jobs and do them a decent
00:53:36amount I don't know what
00:53:37Swerve's record would have
00:53:38been but you always seem to
00:53:39lose as big feuds like there
00:53:41was a Derby stuff you'd have
00:53:42matches with Derby I remember
00:53:43he had a match with Orange
00:53:44you lose those but like it's
00:53:47just so undeniable and he got
00:53:48over and he could see it in
00:53:50his NXT run as well yeah and
00:53:51you were realizing this is
00:53:52potentially a missed
00:53:52opportunity he stuck out
00:53:53massively yeah in that era
00:53:55and you know it's just to
00:53:56say I mean if you just stay
00:53:57on brother stay on brother
00:53:59it's like if you come in it
00:54:01just instantly there's been so
00:54:03many instances of wrestlers who
00:54:07think that they are too big for
00:54:09the jobs that they refuse to do
00:54:11that like they're known as
00:54:12shorthand low-key Tessa Blanchard
00:54:14Austin Aries like there are
00:54:17nicknames now if someone comes
00:54:19into AEW it's like I'll check
00:54:20out low-key over here I just
00:54:21want to do a job I literally
00:54:23everyone can see through how
00:54:25pathetic this is other than the
00:54:26people who don't want to lose
00:54:27but Swerve is the ultimate one
00:54:30for me top of my head recent
00:54:32example at Swerve I think like
00:54:34as he said maximizing minutes in
00:54:36defeat specifically just just
00:54:38anyone who maximized their minutes
00:54:40and became bigger stars as a
00:54:41result there was a really
00:54:42wonderful moment and it was
00:54:44just to go back to Vince
00:54:46McMahon's withholding years
00:54:48where they've just seen the
00:54:50most amazing synergy between
00:54:52performers abilities bookers
00:54:53interest and fan sentiment a
00:54:56holy trinity really around
00:54:58Braun Strowman in 2016 yeah it
00:55:00was magic feeling it was
00:55:01Vince McMahon loved it Braun
00:55:03would do just a tiny bit more
00:55:04every week because it was
00:55:05squash City Jones but like you
00:55:06know people remember kind of
00:55:07James Ellsworth getting his own
00:55:08run off the back of it so he was
00:55:09maximizing minutes but like
00:55:11Braun himself for a guy that
00:55:14like has gone on to like kind
00:55:15of you know like not to sort of
00:55:17succumb to cliches or anything
00:55:18but kind of just be like a kind
00:55:20of big muscle guy that doesn't
00:55:22think too deeply about the
00:55:23business but like deeply about
00:55:24nothing but knows what his role
00:55:26could be in it the guy's an
00:55:27idiot that there was famous
00:55:29infamous idiot either he was
00:55:31supremely coachable and
00:55:33understood direction very well or
00:55:36showed instincts or maybe better
00:55:37it was a nice combination of the
00:55:39two and he was a very obviously
00:55:41a Vince McMahon traditional
00:55:42airport test guy the fans took
00:55:45to him yeah he would then add
00:55:47little bits to his repertoire
00:55:47then they would like remember
00:55:49like in 2017 when he very
00:55:50comprehensively won a feud with
00:55:51Roman Reigns and it was almost
00:55:53like you'd be instructed to kind
00:55:54of go like oh are you yeah
00:55:56new big guy is here and he's
00:55:58bigger like that felt magic it
00:56:01really did like and they
00:56:03debauched it they botched
00:56:04everything but like it was yeah
00:56:06for a minute yeah that I'm yeah
00:56:08I'm a bit of a sucker for that
00:56:092016 brand split and Ron
00:56:12Smackdown much like Dynamite now
00:56:14Raw would have these like
00:56:16segment bits so it was like
00:56:19here's a Sasha Charlotte bit
00:56:20here's a Braun Strowman squash
00:56:22bit and they would drop roughly
00:56:24around the same time every week
00:56:25and the Braun you couldn't wait
00:56:26like what's
00:56:27what's
00:56:28what's
00:56:29what's he gonna do
00:56:30another big idiot like it was
00:56:32really exciting like that
00:56:33that was again
00:56:34bro
00:56:35remember he had those big
00:56:36trousers that looked like he
00:56:37pissed himself
00:56:38yeah
00:56:38who was gonna tell him that
00:56:39it was massive
00:56:40I'm not finished with you
00:56:42and smashed it like a door of an
00:56:43ambulance or whatever
00:56:44KO
00:56:45Owens and Jericho had him as like
00:56:47the Survivor Series partner
00:56:48there couldn't be certain he
00:56:49wasn't gonna rip their heads off
00:56:50yeah
00:56:51it's like
00:56:51right final couple of questions
00:56:57he's the worst guy alive man
00:56:59he is the worst guy ever
00:57:01you know about that Survivor Series
00:57:02Matt
00:57:02just in general Triple H is the
00:57:04worst guy ever man
00:57:05as it pertains to my 18 possible
00:57:06WrestleMania reports
00:57:07I will decide nearer the time
00:57:09worked out right there didn't it
00:57:12was that the Ronda year
00:57:12yeah
00:57:13he wasn't in the Survivor Series
00:57:14yeah
00:57:15he was the only
00:57:15he was the only team Raw guy
00:57:17that had a red t-shirt but he
00:57:19didn't say Raw
00:57:19it had his like big Latin skull
00:57:21I repeat
00:57:22the worst guy ever
00:57:24in the history of guys
00:57:27question just for you here
00:57:28Sige from WT
00:57:29if Darby Allin and Ilya Dragunov
00:57:31did a blood feud
00:57:32which one would rip their
00:57:33ball sack open first
00:57:34for the love of the game
00:57:35oh
00:57:35who likes the punishment more
00:57:38oh god
00:57:40yeah I want to see it
00:57:41I do want to see this match
00:57:44ball sack match
00:57:44oh
00:57:45just generally these two
00:57:48going at it
00:57:49like men
00:57:51um
00:57:52or
00:57:53tonight
00:57:53balls
00:57:55or
00:57:57Dragunov is
00:57:58they're both
00:57:59incredible wrestlers
00:58:01yeah
00:58:01mostly
00:58:02Darby I prefer more
00:58:03but whatever
00:58:04there are parallels to be drawn
00:58:05both incredible on the best nights
00:58:07uh
00:58:08both
00:58:08ridiculous
00:58:10thresholds for pain
00:58:12and both completely give me the
00:58:13ick
00:58:13and I think they're totally lame
00:58:15it's like
00:58:16you know
00:58:17it's like
00:58:18more undertaker
00:58:19versus undertaker
00:58:20than undertaker
00:58:20versus undertaker
00:58:21like they are completely the same
00:58:22lame will entertain
00:58:23yeah
00:58:24pain
00:58:26will entertain you
00:58:28and like it just
00:58:29cuts to people in the crowd
00:58:30going oh god
00:58:31can you just beat yourself up
00:58:32because that's actually good
00:58:33this is really lame
00:58:33um
00:58:34I would go with
00:58:36I reckon Dragunov would go
00:58:39anything you can do
00:58:40I could do better
00:58:40and like try and do
00:58:43Starby's
00:58:44like low pay thing
00:58:45yeah
00:58:45and just tear his
00:58:46nutsack
00:58:47on the bottom rope
00:58:49or something
00:58:49yeah
00:58:50I was
00:58:51you know
00:58:51now he would start to like
00:58:52you know when like
00:58:54Swerve would sort of like
00:58:56go like that
00:58:56and that's like a thing
00:58:57Osprey's done
00:58:58I think he just
00:58:58put his fingers upside his
00:59:01ballsack
00:59:02and just start licking
00:59:03blood
00:59:04you know
00:59:04Darby's infamous
00:59:06water
00:59:06I love it
00:59:08oh yeah
00:59:08Darby's
00:59:09I saw some video
00:59:10pain is a sky
00:59:12memory of triumph
00:59:14back when he was married to
00:59:15and I mean that's my ball blood
00:59:17for Sue Kelly
00:59:18and they didn't submit to you
00:59:20together
00:59:20and talking about like
00:59:23when they first got together
00:59:24they're out on the road
00:59:25and they've gone to some
00:59:26diner
00:59:27and it's just like
00:59:27oh god
00:59:28you're a lot mate
00:59:30like yeah
00:59:31I took some of the hot sauce
00:59:32and like the sachets
00:59:34hot sauce
00:59:34and you know
00:59:35on the road
00:59:35and I drip one
00:59:37right into my ass
00:59:38and it's like
00:59:39you sure did
00:59:40you
00:59:40what's that Darby
00:59:41my ass
00:59:42did you make a long drive
00:59:49I suppose
00:59:49so like
00:59:50Ely Dragunov
00:59:50splits his ball sack
00:59:51on the dive
00:59:52and then Darby sees that
00:59:53and it's like
00:59:53I've got to split my heart
00:59:54yeah yeah yeah
00:59:54referee wakes up
00:59:55and it's like
00:59:55first blood
00:59:56it's a draw
00:59:57yeah
00:59:57there's testes
00:59:58all over the place
00:59:59yeah
00:59:59balls everywhere
01:00:00try to cut the cock off
01:00:02just to outdo each other
01:00:03yeah it's a constant
01:00:04game of one-upsmanship
01:00:05then like eating their own cocks
01:00:06and s***ing them out
01:00:07and you're like
01:00:07s***
01:00:08I'm harder than you
01:00:09I'll go forever
01:00:10yeah referee's like
01:00:11I don't know
01:00:12their own cock out first
01:00:13I was knocked out
01:00:14oh god
01:00:14and Darby's like
01:00:15well alright
01:00:16I'll cut my own arm off
01:00:17and then I'll use it
01:00:18as a weapon
01:00:18and Ely's like
01:00:19not so fast
01:00:19he cuts his leg off
01:00:20and he's like
01:00:20yeah yeah yeah
01:00:21headless cockless
01:00:24arseless
01:00:24yeah yeah yeah
01:00:25I've got nothing
01:00:26I've got nothing left
01:00:27I've got nothing
01:00:28smackdown rules on
01:00:29which is your favourite
01:00:30catchphrase of all time
01:00:31to finish up
01:00:32from Hank McCoy
01:00:33well it's probably
01:00:35I'm going to
01:00:37s*** out my cock
01:00:38I can't s***
01:00:39do I entertain you
01:00:40so other than that
01:00:45favourite catchphrase
01:00:48of all time
01:00:49it's a 40 year old man
01:00:51I don't really have any
01:00:56but historically
01:01:00in terms of
01:01:01what are the ones
01:01:01that I've liked
01:01:02to have said the most
01:01:03and got me the most
01:01:03jazzed up
01:01:04either suck it
01:01:06realistically
01:01:07it's probably suck it
01:01:09or
01:01:09I used to love
01:01:11oh that's really clever
01:01:12like in year nine
01:01:14Hanford can you remember
01:01:15year nine
01:01:16it doesn't matter
01:01:17if you remember
01:01:18year nine
01:01:19or like
01:01:20every day we try
01:01:21and get each other
01:01:21it's just
01:01:22it doesn't matter
01:01:23it's just the
01:01:24it doesn't matter
01:01:26it's just the funniest
01:01:27thing they do
01:01:28I was thinking of two
01:01:29there
01:01:29duality in me really
01:01:31because when
01:01:31Serge said like
01:01:32you know
01:01:32stuff that really
01:01:33gets your jazz
01:01:33and you kind of
01:01:34can't stop saying it
01:01:35don't say yeet
01:01:35over here is the
01:01:36better is the best
01:01:36it was
01:01:37the better ever
01:01:37will be
01:01:37and over here is yeet
01:01:38it doesn't say yeet
01:01:39you know
01:01:40both serving purposes
01:01:41yeah probably
01:01:44I think right now
01:01:44hoorah for all three
01:01:45hoorah
01:01:46hoorah
01:01:47he thought that was
01:01:48coming back
01:01:482026 year of the
01:01:49miss is going to be
01:01:50on
01:01:51he's already started
01:01:51calling his
01:01:52on the trajectory
01:01:52for something that
01:01:53boring and rubbish
01:01:54to get booked
01:01:54strongly so
01:01:55because the area
01:01:57of the miss and
01:01:57it's awesome
