00:09I think one thing you can take away that might be somewhat of a positive,
00:13and I'm curious as to how you feel about this, is David Peterson.
00:17Looked a little bit better in the bullpen, gave four good innings that we've seen from him.
00:22It has not been a good year for David Peterson at all, that's to say the least.
00:29But, maybe there's some positive signs into how he can contribute to this team.
00:34Again, I understand it's four good innings, kind of like four good wins.
00:38I wouldn't go jumping out the window, but are you happy to see some positivity from Mr. David Peterson?
00:46I am. It was something I was actually raving about in my latest postgame show,
00:50because, listen, Peterson was obviously not happy with the decision that he was
00:53taking back out of the Mets rotation after just a couple turns in it,
00:56but let's take a step back for a second.
01:00You know, you and I have both been very vocal on the Pearson front.
01:02This is a guy who, for the past calendar year, has not really been a reliable starter for the Mets.
01:06A lot having to do with not handling the workload as well,
01:09because he pitched the most innings in his career last year,
01:11and we saw it really break him down in the second half.
01:14This year, there was a lot of criticisms,
01:15and even a belief that maybe Pearson won't even be on this roster.
01:18Could it be traded before the season began?
01:20That obviously didn't happen.
01:22Did not look good to begin the year as a starter.
01:24Not surprised or shocked to see that, as it was a continuation from last year,
01:28and that's what warranted the Mets to put him in more of that swingman role in the bullpen.
01:32A couple starts ago, he gets an opportunity, looks sharp across four to five innings,
01:37and the Mets got a little too let's ride this while it's hot,
01:43when there wasn't enough hot about a David Peterson, who just had himself one solid outing.
01:48He then faces the Cincinnati Reds, gets rocked,
01:51because obviously they make it so it's a bit more righty-heavy,
01:54and a big bopper of a lineup as well right now in the NL Central to a degree,
01:57and they just go to town on Peterson.
01:59So you see the flip-flop between himself and Minaya,
02:02and while I do not believe that Sean Minaya should instill any more confidence into us fans
02:07when looking at the rotation build at the moment,
02:09as a fellow soft-tossing southpaw that has not hit the mark for the past calendar year,
02:13I do enjoy the fact that David Peterson, who we have seen with his track record this year,
02:18has currently thrived in this kind of reliever-type role,
02:21where a starter comes in, the first number of innings,
02:23then Peterson comes in, while the lineup is already structured a certain way,
02:26and he can take advantage of that for a couple turns before maybe they start to bring in pinch hitters,
02:31more righty bats in that line, things along those lines.
02:33So for Peterson to go, absolutely fantastic.
02:36Four brilliant innings, allowing just one hit, one walk, three strikeouts, 51 pitches there.
02:41I think what we're seeing more of David Peterson is what you saw a lot of
02:45with Tobias Myers last year for the Milwaukee Brewers,
02:48a man who was actually, in AAA as we speak, being more stretched out, potentially as a starter.
02:53That's why the surprise move happened a couple days ago.
02:56What do we know about Myers?
02:58Thrived as that multi-inning reliever slash swing man for the Brewers last year.
03:01Well, he did not thrive as a traditional starter.
03:05I think we fast forward a year later,
03:06we're going to see Peterson continue to thrive in that exact kind of role.
