00:00This is Straight Outta Flushing, brought to you by your local Ford stores.
00:04Ford F-150 is the official truck of the New York Mets.
00:09Who should be the next manager of the New York Mets?
00:13Let me ask you that first.
00:15Without even deep diving at Dex, who's the first person that comes to your mind?
00:19Knowing that Andy Green, who I like a lot, very well spoken.
00:23Not a sight at all against Mendoza, but it's nice to have a refreshing manager like Andy Green
00:27be pretty much straightforward with some of the things he's saying to media
00:30and his post-game pressers we've seen in the past couple days.
00:33He's made it known he will not be here once the season's over.
00:36He will go right back to player development.
00:37And I don't fault him because that's a job he's passionate about.
00:40He can still be around his family without being consumed as much on the day-to-day operation
00:44that is the New York Mets.
00:45I don't fault him at all.
00:47That's completely – he loves his position, and I like him there.
00:49He's done very good with guys like A.J. Ewing, Christian Scott, Carson Bench,
00:53just to name a few of the past couple.
00:53He's had his hands on those players, undoubtedly.
00:56But who was the first person that comes to your mind that you would like to see
01:00at the helm for the New York Mets?
01:01The first person that came to my mind – the first person for me that came to mind
01:05that I wanted to see as manager of New York Mets is a guy who really should have
01:09had his chance before.
01:10That's Carlos Beltran.
01:12It's the first person that came to mind.
01:15Listen, I think if you ask me who I think is the best managerial candidate out there,
01:19it would be Alex Cora.
01:23However, I think a lot of this depends on what the Phillies do this year.
01:27Now with Don Mattingly, I see him just as more of a – there's more of a pathway
01:32to him to get to Philadelphia than I see to New York, which you never know.
01:35You never know.
01:36The Mets went and got Alex Cora.
01:38Would I be mad?
01:38Hell no.
01:40And he's a former New York Met.
01:41People forget about that.
01:42Yeah, I forgot about that.
01:43That's right.
01:44He's the best manager to me available.
01:47And now, I want to say this to people because some people are going to say,
01:50ah, Dex, you're just probably leaning into the Mets nostalgia.
01:53Carlos Beltran, who I think is – was a damn good New York Met
01:57that sometimes some fans did not appreciate because all they could think about
02:01is him looking at strike three to end the 2006 season to Adam Wainwright.
02:06I think Carlos Beltran will be a good manager from all you heard
02:10about when he interviewed before for the Mets and had the job
02:13before everything that came out with the Astros cheating scandal.
02:19And then he – you know, then the Mets had to move on
02:21because the optics would have been bad.
02:23I think enough time has passed.
02:24I think he'll be fine.
02:25I think you could bring him back.
02:27I think he knows the organization.
02:29He's worked in front offices before.
02:32He's now around this team.
02:34He's worked with the Yankees.
02:35I think he can relate with a lot of the players.
02:38And I think he's going to be able to communicate
02:42because all we heard about Carlos Mendoza is he communicates well
02:44with the guys in the clubhouse.
02:46But I think he could bring the A-word that Wardy's been asking for.
02:49I think he could bring some of that accountability as well too.
02:53It's a guy who's won, who understands deep playoff runs,
02:57gets that the whole nine.
02:58So I think he would be good.
02:59He's the first name that comes to mind.
03:00Now, look, we know his number is getting retired later this summer.
03:08How nice would it be to see his number retired and then the Mets hire him?
03:10But for me, it's like if I'm going into this under the assumption
03:16that Alex Cora probably has just a smoother pathway to the Phillies
03:22than he does the Mets.
03:24If you tell me if the best guy, I'm going for Alex Cora.
03:27Carlos Beltran's the next guy I would want.
03:29Would I be mad if some of the other guys have thrown their name in the hat?
03:31Albert Pujols has thrown his name, his hat into the ring.
03:36I spoke with Albert Pujols last fall.
03:40I think it was in October.
03:42And I asked him about, man, this was right before the start of the playoffs.
03:45And I asked him about his aspirations for managing.
03:47And he said, you know, he told me this is something he'd want to do.
03:50This is before he obviously managed the Dominican team
03:52in the World Baseball Classic.
03:55I think Albert Pujols also strikes me as a guy that would bring that level
03:59of accountability and change the culture.
04:01We've seen former players be successful, so I think this could happen.
04:05And then you have David Ross as well, too, who's thrown his name in there, too,
04:10who I think is a very interesting candidate.
04:12I think for the Mets fans, they're looking for a little bit more fire,
04:16a little bit more the guy that's going to probably say a little bit more
04:19and hold guys accountable for the media sometimes.
04:23I think some Mets fans want to see that.
04:25I think he could be your guy.
04:31I think he's going to be your guy.
