00:00This is Straight Outta Flushing, brought to you by your local Ford stores.
00:04Ford F-150 is the official truck of the New York Mets.
00:09Steve Cohen saying that he didn't think the Mets at that time, early June, should be sellers.
00:15But the way it looks right now, it looks like they are going to be sellers at the trade deadline.
00:20Now, one of the names that's come up, guys, a lot, and it would make sense, is Freddie Peralta.
00:26Now, I understand, the Mets just traded for him this offseason.
00:30There were talks about signing him to an extension, all that stuff.
00:33On our show here on the New York Post, baseball show, the show with John Heyman and Joel Sherman,
00:40they discussed this week, should the Mets maybe look to trade Francisco Lindor?
00:46And I took that initially, and I was like, I don't know about that.
00:53I'm still processing that.
00:55Should the Mets consider moving their all-star shortstop at this time?
00:58Is that the worst idea here for the Mets in a team that likely is going to need to sell?
01:06Well, the thing I look at is it can't be like, all right, we're just going to trade Francisco Lindor
01:13for the sake of trading Francisco Lindor.
01:16And the thing you look at is he's halfway through that contract, so he's still got $170 million left.
01:24You know, you've got to think teams looking at it are going to be like, do we want to pay
01:30that kind of money for a guy in his 30s?
01:33Because, you know, when you sign a guy to that kind of contract, you know, you're paying a premium basically
01:41for the front half of it.
01:44But now you're getting the back end of it.
01:47You know, I don't know.
01:48Are the Mets willing to take on a lot of money just to trade Francisco Lindor?
01:55I don't think that would be the wisest idea.
01:58Yeah.
01:59Yeah.
02:00I mean, not my money.
02:01But I'm not sure it's necessarily the best thing.
02:05Now, people might say you might get a decent return for him.
02:08Wardy, what do you say?
02:09Would you is this something you would entertain?
02:13So before the season started, I was having a conversation of some fellow Mets talking heads that I'm buddies with.
02:18And we were on the topic of Francisco Lindor, especially when offseason rumblings was still kind of going on.
02:24Like, is there any chance that the Mets would do such a crazy thing, even though we knew that wasn't
02:27going to happen?
02:28And what I said, and I'll stick with today, is that if the Mets found themselves with another dormant season
02:34where they are most certainly not going to make playoffs, while I wouldn't expect it to happen during the season,
02:40I will not at all be surprised when we hear actual rumblings of Francisco Lindor's future come next offseason.
02:47Between the uncertainty of the lockout and the uncertainty as to how this roster is going to be built.
02:52I mean, is it a lock to say that this is going to be the exact same front office a
02:55year from now?
02:56I don't think we can go ahead and make that assumption right away, knowing what's going on right now with
03:00the lack of consistency with this team.
03:02I don't know.
03:03It's a great question because Lindor is in many ways the leader of this team, and he's most certainly not
03:08someone I want to see gone.
03:10But as the Mets continue to freefall the way that they do, I think it's more of a reality check
03:14for them to see, OK, what position are they really in?
03:17Are they in a position to win now that they should just continue to try to buy, buy, buy each
03:21year until they get a roster that satisfies them and lucks out?
03:25Or do they really need to take a step back and say, OK, it is time for a retool slash
03:30rebuild where maybe we don't go fully into it.
03:33However, we continue to dismantle what was previously here and we want to build something up younger and more sustainable
03:39versus what we've gone to this point.
03:41I'm sure that's something that the Mets are going to ponder far more should the season trend the way that
03:46it has.
