00:00This is Straight Outta Flushing, brought to you by your local Ford stores.
00:04Ford F-150 is the official truck of the New York Mets.
00:09Do you think, when you look at Soto, it is, you know, a year and a half here now.
00:14Does his all-star production make this season in particular more frustrating?
00:18Because the Mets, they've got their superstar.
00:21They've got the superstar piece here, Wardy.
00:23But they still look really far away from contention.
00:26Does that make the season more frustrating,
00:28even though we're getting to see Juan Soto be amazing on the field?
00:32Oh, I mean, it goes without saying that's frustrating, Dex.
00:35I mean, think about it.
00:36The Mets are the second year in, the largest contract in North American sports history.
00:40A player in his prime as we speak, and the Mets are completely letting him be washed away.
00:45There is nothing more frustrating than a waste of talent, if you ask me,
00:48in a circumstance like this.
00:49You know, it reminds me a lot of, on a different scale, as a hockey fan,
00:53growing up being a big New York Rangers fan
00:55and a goaltender by the name of Henrik Lundqvist.
00:58That many people know.
00:59He carried that Rangers team for years upon years upon years upon years on end,
01:03where there wasn't a proper supporting cast around him,
01:06especially in the first half of his career.
01:08So I see some similarity there from, you know, one great player to another
01:11in this big market where, you know, they're doing everything right.
01:15They're doing their job.
01:16You know, it's no different than Aaron Judge is going to do his job
01:18when he's healthy for the eggs.
01:19But when you don't have that kind of surrounding cast the way that you need,
01:24it just sticks out so terribly when you're investing the dollars that the Mets are
01:28and knowing that, you know, this is not going to last forever.
01:32We hope and pray that Juan Soto is dominating at the plate a decade from now.
01:36But we don't know what future holds when it comes to injuries.
01:38This is already the first year that Juan Soto is kind of dealing with a little bit more ailment
01:41than maybe what we're accustomed to.
01:43What does that mean as he gets older and becomes less viable in the outfield
01:46and is more of a DH option?
01:47These are the things I think about because the Mets have went two straight years now
01:53of completely washing away what is otherwise an MVP caliber talent to many across the game.
