00:00This is Straight Outta Flushing, brought to you by your local Ford stores.
00:04Ford F-150 is the official truck of the New York Mets.
00:08Let me ask you this.
00:11If David Stearns is safe with his job right now, right,
00:15which we're going to take Steve Cohen at his word that he is,
00:19does that make the deadline more important?
00:21Because this is now fully his, meaning David Stearns, reset to manage.
00:27So does that make you this upcoming trade deadline, which we're going to get into more in this episode,
00:32but does it make it uber important?
00:35Because look, man, Stearns, you're here driving the ship.
00:39You've got to reset things here.
00:40You got to get things right.
00:42You have to hit, you got to cook at this deadline.
00:45Well, we thought he cooked last year at the deadline, and boy, were we wrong.
00:48But this is a different kind of cooking this year.
00:51Do you look at this deadline differently, Wardy?
00:53Are you kind of like, well, let's wait and see.
00:56Yeah, I mean, listen, whether we like it or not, as a fan base, talking ads, reporters alike,
01:01David Stearns is not going anywhere immediately for the New York Mets.
01:04He will, at minimum, be their president to begin the 2027 season.
01:06So knowing that and understanding that, knowing that the keys are still going to be very much held by him
01:11and the ball's in his court, it's imperative that he's able to rebound
01:14after what was such a failure of an offseason.
01:16This is now the perfect time for him to write his runs to the best of his abilities, okay?
01:21Owning up to the fact that it starts with you and accountability,
01:23which he has, regardless of them firing Mendoza, as well as you can hold yourself more accountable
01:28by showing that in your actions.
01:30You know, we always, you know how much I say proactive.
01:32It's like my favorite up in word on here because it's just so commonplace to say
01:36where David Stern just hasn't been doing that, unfortunately, as team president.
01:40But as we get to the deadline, now's a great time and opportunity
01:43because the Mets can go about this in various ways that we're going to talk about shortly.
01:47But from the aspect of both buying and selling and the pros versus cons that come with them,
01:52the Mets can easily position themselves where they can head into 2027,
01:56where, yes, they're going to be without a lot of the current players on their roster, per se,
02:00but that isn't necessarily a bad thing with everything that continues to go right for this club.
02:04You know, if you have a rod and core, just something that's not looking good,
02:09ideally, you'd like to change that, especially in this New York market
02:12with the payroll of north of $300 million entering next season still
02:16and everything else that will entail of what it means to be on the New York Mets.
