00:03breaking news Mets fans the Amazons have officially begun what may very well be a selling spree for
00:09them as they inch closer to the traded line how we doing everybody my name is Tyler Ward better
00:14known as Wardy to many of you guys here on the New York Post Sports YouTube channel as I'm the
00:19co-host for the straight out flushing New York Mets related podcast here myself and the amazing
00:23Dexter Henry but we're riding solo today and we're live reacting here to the news that is yes
00:27veteran Southpaw and David Pearson is no longer in flushing Queens Peterson as we know got rocked
00:33not all that long ago that we saw against the Philadelphia Phillies and that Sunday night
00:37matchup as the Mets drop two out of three there in Philadelphia Peterson currently with a 6.09 year
00:43on the season is now no longer in Queens at least as a New York Met as he'll be changing
00:49dugouts in
00:50locker rooms for the final game and the series finale matchup between the Cubs and the Mets
00:54this Thursday as the Mets have traded Pierce in a way they receive a interesting prospect that being
01:00Cole Mathis the young 22 year old infield prospect that can play both first base and DH so far this
01:06year in both low A and high A he's looked quite good with 10 home runs averaging an RBI per
01:11game 39
01:12RBIs and 39 games at this point an OPS that is just under a thousand so the Mets are getting
01:18a nice
01:18high upside younger obviously lower level first base slash DH prospect bang from the right side
01:24something that they really don't have much of currently in the organization because Ryan Clifford
01:27is their leader at the helm of their top first base prospect in AAA Syracuse right now and that has
01:32a
01:32lot of power and a lot of loop in his swing then you have Chris Suero who can play first
01:36base catcher
01:37and the corner outfielder truly a diverse product out of the Bronx New York and has looked great thus far
01:43for the New York Mets and the minor leagues he's buying around the Mendoza line but the power is there
01:46and he's been leading towards the top of the order there that we have seen in AA so out of
01:52those
01:52options it'll be interesting to see how long it takes Cole to skyrocket in the Mets farm but there's
01:57a great reality that he'll be with the rumble points this season and could get to AAA Syracuse
02:01some point next year so for the New York Mets hoping that this is a little bit of a change
02:06of
02:06the tide if you will from the PCA trade that had El Mago and Javi Baez on just a couple
02:11months of that
02:12remaining contract and a couple years left of Trevor Williams what's now since been a lopsided
02:16trade between the Mets and the Cubs all those years ago for the Mets they cut dead weight here
02:21for David Pearson and as has been reported by multiple people here to this point it does not
02:26look like it's in great certainty by the Mets trading Peterson that this will automatically start
02:30a complete fire sale where everyone their mother that's on a short-term contract or really is more
02:35dead weight than a positive for this Mets team will find themselves here the Mets are going to wait
02:39things out a little bit but it goes without saying as we inch closer to the trade deadline do not
02:43be
02:43surprised when trades inevitably continue to happen as David Stearns was going to be working those
02:47phones plenty for the roster that he sadly did not construct properly as we know Stearns has really
02:53missed the mark for the New York Mets in more ways than one entering this season with his poor roster
02:57construction which has not helped Carlos Mendoza who obviously does not look like he's the best man for
03:02the job and that's an understatement but it's also not completely his fault with the lack of roster
03:07that's been bestowed upon him over the past calendar year plus due to lack of availability from the health
03:13and the inconsistencies that come along with them so for Pearson who finishes his Mets career in just
03:18under 150 total games and just over a four-year array as Mets tenure posted just under a 9k per
03:26nine
03:26to a little bit of a three and a half to north of a four walks per nine David Peterson
03:30going back to
03:31his major league debut there from double-a to the bigs and Fenway Park in the short 2020 season feels
03:36like it was yesterday for Peterson I wish him well now they're in Chicago and now he is the next
03:41homegrown Southpaw soft tossing Southpaw that unfortunately had more bad than good when
03:47looking at and reflecting his Mets tenure in my opinion in the opinions of many from Steven
03:52Matt to then passing the torch now to David Pearson hopefully God willing the Zach Thorntons and the
03:57John Dan Santucci's of the world the next men up for the Mets as Southpaw prospects that could
04:02impact this rotation as soon as the season do have a higher ceiling than what the Mets have gotten
04:07from both these pitchers David Pearson in particular as we know was a stud for the New York Mets for
04:12a
04:12calendar year from 2024 in June returning from his hip surgery that previous offseason to then June of
04:182025 from June of 2025 to present day David Pearson has been statistically the worst starter in baseball
04:24when looking at ERA among other metrics he has not been an analytic starling at all throughout his
04:28career he is a ground ball merchant through and through and relies on the defense behind him and
04:33that's going to bode him well there in Chicago with guys like Dansby and Horner certainly soaking
04:37things up like a vacuum there that we see in that infield for the Cubs so for Peterson obviously coming
04:43off of the biggest workload he ever had in his career just under 170 innings for the New York Mets
04:48in
04:482025 that workload had him gassed and from June onward from Kodai Senga going down to Tyler McGill going
04:54down to obviously Griffin Kenny rupturing his Achilles Frankie Montas being far from reliable same thing
05:00with Shamanaya the pressure was weighing on David Pearson's shoulders to be that guy for his second
05:05calendar year and he unfortunately was not able to step up to the plate when it came to consistency
05:10and quality because that workload was really just too much for him that transferred over now into the
05:152026 season so Peterson now a nice little pickup for the Cubs to see if they could get an innings
05:20eater
05:20maybe maximize his value a bit more than what the Mets have to this point a change of scenery couldn't
05:25hurt hopefully for Pearson's sake and listen I wish him well and for the Mets they get something versus
05:29nothing but this is the same Mets team that was complacent and content entering the year
05:33instead of trading away guys like Kodai Senga David Pearson to a lesser degree given his contract status
05:39Shamanaya two respective teams this offseason David Stern said no we're not going to do that we couldn't
05:44find any deals that we were comfortable with so now we're looking down the barrel of a David Pearson
05:49has now been traded for next to nothing in value as of now and Kodai Senga who's one more bad
05:55outing away even as a reliever to being DFA'd outright and then potentially traded for just
05:59cash considerations by the New York Mets these were guys I'm sure were getting thrown some
06:04offers throughout the offseason that at least had someone's value more than what the Mets are
06:08currently getting from them this is the risk you take when you wait too long to trade players
06:12obviously especially ones with wishy-washy track records which has been the case in both Kodai Senga
06:17and David Pearson to this point Mets fans let us know your thoughts in the comments down below your
06:22immediate reaction and David Pearson being parted with by this Mets club do you like this move do you not
06:27like this move and what other players do would you like to see the Mets go ahead and trade this
06:31year
06:31even if they're not fully locking into that fire sale mentality yet whether it's position players
06:36headline like Mark Vientos Brett Beatty Jared Young or pitchers not named David Pearson but are so named
06:43Kodai Senga relievers AJ Minter Brooks Raley Luke Weaver Devin Williams Hwaska Brosban how long is that
06:52laundry list for you Mets fans let us know it all in the comments down below and be on the
