00:00The new collaboration between the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Digital
00:04Transformation and Artificial Intelligence is aimed at advancing the teaching learning landscape
00:10Future Ready TT seeks to do as its name suggests, enable educators to prep students across the
00:17nation's schools for the road ahead amid the ever-evolving technological landscape.
00:22Digital Transformation Minister Dominic Smith expounds on what the program entails.
00:28Through this initiative, very specifically for the media, we are introducing new enterprise
00:35to the people of Trinidad and Tobago. The tools specifically that this collaboration will touch on
00:41is ChatGPT Enterprise, Grammarly Enterprise, ChatGPT EDU, and Grammarly for Education
00:50into a structured professional and educational environment across the whole of Trinidad and Tobago.
00:57Education Minister Dr. Michael Dowlath says AI is reshaping learning, economies, labor markets,
01:04and the consumption of knowledge. He outlines that while this is a fact, it must be managed properly.
01:11Technology should never replace the teacher. Rather, it should support and amplify the role of educators
01:19as mentors, guides, facilitators, and shapers of character.
01:26But AI can present opportunities for better navigation of barriers in the learning of children
01:31who may have otherwise been left behind.
01:34For example, teachers can now create individual learning plans, individual lesson plans,
01:43for students who have learning challenges, students who have ADHD, autism, different
01:54skills, and different skills. And Dr. Dowlath indicates that the government remains committed to its
02:00investment in digital transformation, including the distribution of laptops and tablets for students,
02:06ensuring that the technological advancements transcend limitations like geography and socioeconomic
02:13backgrounds. Meanwhile, Smith says the pilot was first tested with over 500 users across his ministry,
02:20which provided for deep analysis leading to valuable insight.
02:24We saw encouraging levels of engagement. Officers in the public service actively use the tools to draft
02:32reports, prepare correspondence, summarize information, develop ideas, conduct research, and improve workflows.
02:41Several divisions reported meaningful reductions in time required to complete routine tasks,
02:46with some reporting productivity gains upwards of 75%. But the main takeaway,
02:52according to Smith, is that to have a successful adoption of the tools, good governance, training,
02:58and support are crucial. He says this would be factored into the eventual rollout.
