Like father like son?

It's a question naturally asked when the offspring of a great player steps into the same profession as their parent.

And that's the very question that former T&T great David Nakhid's son, Ali Kazim Nakhid has to answer.

However, the younger Nakhid is ready to write his own chapter on his call to represent Trinidad and Tobago.

00:00I remember watching Trinidad and Tobago train in 2004, watching them train
00:05Hazeley Crawford Stadium. I took a photo of you that day. It's you who took that
00:10photo, okay. I still hold on to that. I still have that and I think the title
00:15said the headline said like father like son question mark and this was 22
00:20years ago. So I was I was held on to that because you know I looked up to him and
00:27I always wanted to represent my country. The dream is finally coming true for Ali
00:32Kazim Nakid as he can finally emulate his father David Nakid. His father was a TNT
00:37great and a dynamic midfielder in his time. So are there any similarities between
00:42him and his father? I believe there's some there's some similarities in the game
00:46controlling the midfield. I'm very much box-to-box. I believe he was more
00:52offensive when he played. I think I'm a bit more balanced and more box-to-box
00:56covering that distance but in terms of trying to control the pace of the game
01:01going forward I think that's where you could see some similarities. I'm a bit
01:09bigger more of a presence in the air as well so maybe that's something that
01:13everybody could expect. The 26-year-old who can operate as a central defender and
01:18midfielder was born in Lebanon but raised in the United Arab Emirates. He currently
01:22plays in the UAE's first division with Al Etifak but has plenty of experience in
01:27the U.S. collegiate system. Now with his call to represent TNT on the
01:31international stage, the younger Nakid wants to chart his own course.
01:35In terms of here in terms of my journey I mean like I said I had a blueprint but I
01:39believe if you're walking a clear path and you're walking somebody else's
01:43somebody else's steps and that's not what I wanted to do I wanted to have my
01:47I want to build my own legacy in a way. I mean it's a it's a privilege to have
01:52that to have the Nakid name and to be able to represent the Nakid name again in
01:56the national team but since day one I always knew that I wanted to build my
02:00own legacy so I've tried to do that tried to carve that path in college now
02:06moving into professional world as well professional football I wanted to build
02:10my own legacy. Terence Clark, TV6 Sport.
