With the high crime rate in the country, one couple in Tobago Pastor Bevon Benjamin and his wife counseling psychologist Rhonda Thompson-Benjamin are hoping their book, ' Called to Be Dad' can make a difference. Both spoke with TV6'S Elizabeth Williams and here is that report.

00:00We see what's happening with the crime situation here in Trinidad and Tobago.
00:04And so sometimes we look at different external things to solve an internal problem.
00:11And so this is a direct, called to be dad is a solution that could help reverse and encourage and
00:19support fathers in a positive direction.
00:22Called to be dad addresses key challenges faced by mother and fathers, including emotional preparedness, relationship dynamics, spiritual leadership and
00:33practical parenting strategies.
00:35It is accompanied by a workbook and mobile app designed to help fathers apply principles in real life contexts.
00:43And we committed as a couple to be able to provide a resource for fathers to assist them in their
00:50transition into parenthood.
00:53In my practice as a counseling psychologist, I saw similar themes which further cemented that we need to do something.
01:01Even with the ills in society, fatherhood plays an important role in our society.
01:07The authors combined clinical insight with pastoral experience to address one of the most critical yet often undersupported roles in
01:16society, the father.
01:19Pastor Benjamin told the TV6 News there is a challenge for good mentorship within the context of fatherhood.
01:25As we would have prepared this work, the idea is to really help men be better, help fathers be better,
01:32provide that support, that guidance that will build confidence.
01:35Because after you would have attained all these finances, who are you leaving a legacy to if there was no
01:42emotional connection and relationship with the children?
