00:05it's all finally good in big blue land let's talk about all the news all the introductions
00:11and controversial tweets coming out of giants otas with our nfl reporter for the post
00:17ryan dunleavy i guess i shouldn't say out of otas uh ryan i guess like everything off the field is
00:24what everyone's been talking about uh obviously the jackson dart uh introducing president trump
00:30and then abdul carter coming back with the tweet but it's been reported that jackson addressed the
00:36team on wednesday about that and uh you know the news storm that followed after it one i guess do
00:44you feel as though he needed to address the team and two do you think this got got a little
00:49bit too
00:50much news was this bigger than what it actually was okay so yes i do think he needed to address
00:58the
00:58team uh other people addressed the team too so i think that was a good thing and it wasn't just
01:03the players it was the coaches and the entire football operation that was part of the meeting
01:09um so i do think that needed to happen just to clear the air because it went from just a
01:15politics story or a fan base story to a locker room story as soon as abdul carter tweeted
01:20uh his displeasure with it so that became a football story and that became something john
01:25hardball needed to address uh they did that this week before taking the field a bunch of leaders
01:32spoke it's interesting abdul carter wasn't in the room for that because he had a previous commitment
01:37uh communicated to the giants based on his religious beliefs a religious holiday so he wasn't actually in
01:43the clear the air meeting which is interesting um but yeah i do think it needed to happen do i
01:49think
01:50it got too much attention no i mean this is what happens right we all remember politics in the nfl
01:55intersecting with colin kaepernick or uh national anthem protests and whatnot this is uh sports sports and
02:03politics intersect athletes have major platforms politicians have major platforms when they intersect
02:09it's going to become a major story and politics are very polarizing to to uh people and people are
02:14sports fans so it's uh it's almost impossible to uh to uh separate the two yeah and you know
02:21jackson dart taking a lot of heat and obviously people gonna and abdul carter taking a lot of heat as
02:27well like you said there's just a line that's in the sand right now when it comes to what sides
02:32you
02:33on what sides you're not and i'm glad they kind of addressed it because that's the last thing that you
02:38want going into the summer you're trying to build team chemistry you're trying to build your culture
02:43and your identity you don't want something like political beliefs to be the reason why you know
02:49your former two first round picks are are feuding or having some sort of online uh feud with with each
02:56other but it kind of divided the fan base as well so which is you're glad that they they addressed
03:01that
03:01because there is a side of the fan base that's going to be pro jackson dart and anti jackson dart
03:07pro abdul carter with the way he handled it anti jackson dart with the way that he handled it i
03:13mean abdul carter with the way that he handled it but the only way to squash this thing is to
03:17do it
03:17like men be in the locker room close doors and keep everything in-house and i think that was kind
03:23of
03:23you know the whole the fact that it got outhouse you know with with abdul carter tweet i think that's
03:29something that kind of drew a lot more attention to it than what it what it could have had so
03:35would do are you worried that this is something that lingers into training camp
03:41no the other way to squash it is to uh play football win games practice hard uh you know
03:49that's really at the end of the day what unites all the guys in a locker room is trying to
03:53win it's not
03:54going to be politics it's not going to be anything that's not going to be any other thing in life
03:59they're not all the same political belief they're not all the same sports other sports team you know
04:05there's there's i've heard some of the most heated battles i've heard in a locker room are over sec
04:09football and two alma maters right like so um they don't really agree on anything in the locker room
04:16except uh you know what what to get for dinner that night and let's go out and try to win
04:20football
04:21games so no i don't think uh no i don't think it'll linger i think uh i think uh everybody
04:27will
04:28learn their their lesson that you know a locker room is a place of different beliefs and you got
04:33to be tolerant tolerate other people's opinions or you know just uh avoid the topic altogether
04:39like they say at the end of the day winning cures all and we've turned from when it comes to
04:45sports
04:45it's like we've gone from shut up and dribble to talk all you want as long as you go out
04:50and ball
04:51so regardless again if you're if you're team abdul card or your team jackson dart jackson dart comes
04:57out throws two three touchdowns yeah they're all team giants everyone's going to be team giants at the
05:03end of the day so yeah i i really do felt like this became a a bigger issue than what
05:08it was especially
05:08that that football background to where it's like you play with guys who who have different
05:15political beliefs than you that doesn't mean that i'm not going to go out and run this clear out
05:19route for this guy just because he voted on the opposite side of the table like this it's the dumbest
05:25thing in the world when it comes to it but i but from i get a media standpoint i can
05:30see why all this
05:31blew up uh let's talk about andrew thomas restructuring his deal with the giants that's opening up
05:38what a transition right there but that's opening up a little bit more money for them on the salary cap
05:44can you tell us what you know about this new deal and do you think that they're freeing up some
05:50more
05:50money to make another move somewhere that's what everybody always wants to believe right here comes
05:57odell beckham or here comes eddie goldman or another defensive tackle um what can i tell you is they opened
06:04up 6.4 million dollars in salary cap space which is less than they could have if they max restructured
06:10they could have gotten to near 11 uh they had 11.9 before francis mawanoa's deal was signed which
06:20is a 5.8 hit so that took them down into the five range thomas will give them back six
06:26so that takes
06:27them back up to 11 or 12 you know yeah somebody have to do the exact math and then uh
06:33arvel reese has
06:34the sign and that'll take something like 8.7 so then they'll be back down under five so uh it's
06:40all
06:41a lot of accounting i know people get all jazzed up about the salary cap it's a lot of accounting
06:45to
06:46make sure people fit under the books do i think a move is coming i think odell beckham could come
06:51sometime between you know saturday at the softball game at the license plate guy brian burns charity
06:59softball game um when he's going to make an appearance autograph appearance and training
07:05camp and i think another defensive tackle whether that's eddie goldman or somebody else of his
07:13resume and minimal salary demands uh could sign to replace roy robertson harris not that they lost him
07:22for the season uh due to injury so they definitely are thin on the defensive tackle uh depth chart so
07:28yeah i do think somebody could be signing i don't think this is open what everybody wants is like
07:33is this opening a ton of salary cap space for a big splashy sign stefan diggs or some massive trade
07:41of
07:42some sort no that's not what this is this is just creating room to operate the season and if eddie
07:49goldman or some other 32 defense year old defensive tackle gets you jazzed up then yeah maybe this is
07:55that but it's not uh it's not clearing the way for some sort of blockbuster it's just simple accounting
08:01we're almost done with otas they still have a mandatory mini camp coming up with everything that
08:09you've seen the moves that are had been made where do you have the giants right now how do you
08:15see them
08:16on what may 27 i think that's it i see them as a much i see them as a much
08:22improved team in some
08:24spots and a slightly improved team in others and a slightly worse team in others uh you got to tell
08:32me when malik neighbors is going to be on the field as i've said a million times on written and
08:37set on
08:37shows about i'll believe he's playing week one when i see it i'm more in the c in october camp
08:43for
08:44malik neighbors um that's obviously a blow uh whenever he plays that will change how i feel
08:52about the team um i've got to see darius slayton come back i've got there's still a lot of question
08:59i gotta see cam scadaboo come back i gotta see a lot of things if all goes well i see
09:04them as a team
09:05that should be in playoff contention in december whether they make it or not you're talking about
09:10seven eight nine wins i i think i have them at seven right now um but i see them as
09:16a team that
09:17should be get off to like a three and three start and give us an interesting season to follow all
09:22right
09:22ryan dunleavy appreciate you having all with us thanks brandon
09:27you
09:29you
09:30you
09:36you
