A late-night burglary attempt at a jewellery shop in Hathras was foiled after miscreants fled the scene as the market area began to get crowded.
The incident took place around 3:30 am on Saturday night at Chauhan Jewelers, located at Rathi Square in Sikandrarao town.
According to reports, three to four masked men arrived at the shop and first uprooted the CCTV cameras installed above the entrance to avoid being identified. They then tried to break open the locks of the shop shutters.
Shop owner Vinod Kumar Chauhan said the locks showed clear signs of tampering and vandalism.
However, as morning approached and movement began increasing in the market, the miscreants panicked and fled the spot without stealing any jewellery. While escaping, they reportedly took two uprooted CCTV cameras with them.
The incident came to light on Sunday morning when Vinod Chauhan arrived to open the shop and found the damaged locks and missing cameras. Local residents gathered at the spot, and police were informed.
Police officials said that although the cameras were removed, the recording system had stored footage until the moment they were uprooted. The footage reportedly shows three to four young men, though their faces are only partially visible.
City in-charge Ramnaresh said patrolling teams were active in the area at the time. Meanwhile, Shiv Kumar Sharma confirmed that a complaint has been registered and an investigation is underway.
Police said efforts are being made to identify and arrest the accused based on the available CCTV footage.
