00:00That's the gate as we get underway.
00:06It's one of the pro circuit bikes out front, but not the one we expected.
00:10It's Josh Hansen taking the early lead, but taking it away from him.
00:14Whoa, and down goes Hansen.
00:17Just like Anaheim, he gets a great start and then out of it in the early lap.
00:21Wow, and that was Blake Wharton of the Geico Power Sports Honda
00:26that just jumped through the middle, took the line from Hansen
00:29and it forced him wide.
00:31He landed on the tough blocks, but obviously Josh Hansen is shaken up.
00:37A hard hit for Josh.
00:41Watch the 100.
00:42He takes a look over his shoulder and Wharton gets an O,
00:45and Hansen loses traction with the rear tire and high sides.
00:53Wow, and so we go back to the lead.
00:55And it's Blake Wharton out front,
00:57and Weimer now sits in second.
01:00And what a night for Wharton here after that horrific heat race.
01:04He managed to make it through, but now in the lead here.
01:12I was about to say there, both of the top teams that
01:15Factory Connection Honda and the Pro Circuit Kawasaki team
01:19had both riders inside.
01:21Both riders are all four.
01:23We're inside the top four there, but with Hansen going down,
01:27that's going to leave number 12 here.
01:29Jake Weimer is the low and pro circuit rider.
01:33Blake Wharton winning in the Superdome just a year ago in New Orleans.
01:38This could be his second career victory if he holds on.
01:50Weimer closing in.
01:52Weimer is right there, Jeff.
02:00Yeah, he's so confident, though, and we're only three laps into this 15 lap.
02:05Oh, here it is.
02:05He's got a triple to the inside.
02:07Not quite enough.
02:09And that's Trey Kennard just at the top of your screen there.
02:17He was second last week in Anaheim.
02:21Trey, remember, had to go through the L.C.Q.,
02:23so he's got a little bit more track time here.
02:26Well, how important was that for Kennard?
02:28I mean, he had a horrible game pick, Jeff,
02:30but he's made the most of these opening three laps,
02:33put himself right in position where he needs to be.
02:35If he's with Weimer, that's where he needs to be
02:38if he wants a shot at this championship.
02:40Even if they finish second and third,
02:41at least he's third to Weimer's second.
02:43And look at this.
02:44Trey Kennard, he has really closed it up on Weimer
02:47going through the warp sections.
02:49Don't forget, they finished 1-2 just a week ago,
02:52and guess who's in fourth?
02:54The guy who comes to spoil this whole party, Ryan Morris.
02:58Boy, he has put on some impressive rides
03:01in the last couple of seasons.
03:05Oh, inside Kennard!
03:07There goes Morris!
03:08He's going to take over third!
03:10Let's see if Kennard can see that.
03:11He still gets the triple,
03:13so he doesn't lose a position to Will Hahn there.
03:19But Kennard has done everything he could
03:20to get that Geico Power Sports fight into the hunt,
03:23but he can't afford to slip back then.
03:28He's got to get right back up there.
03:30Gordon putting in some great laps of 56-352,
03:38his last, his fastest so far.
03:41Weimer makes a mistake!
03:42Oh, Brian looks for Weimer,
03:43and the sand bit him earlier, remember?
03:45That's where he struggled in his heat.
03:48And that's going to allow Morris one more spot.
03:52Could this be the night that Ryan Morris
03:54just wins his first light Supercross main event?
03:58And it puts Kennard right back behind Weimer
04:01in that title fight, right where he wants to be.
04:03But Hahn sneaking into the picture.
04:05Oh, and Kennard bobbles!
04:06And Hahn comes by!
04:10Well, just when Kennard starts to see the light of day again,
04:13somebody comes to slam the door shut on him.
04:16I'm telling you, it's the race course here tonight.
04:18This is, at the level that these guys are riding,
04:22they're just really putting on such an effort
04:25to turn around a, we've got the top five riders
04:28turning a 56-second lap time,
04:31as you can see here with Wharton.
04:33But it's this track, the traction here tonight.
04:37It looks great in spots,
04:39but the riders have complained that,
04:41or commented that the track is just extremely slippery.
04:44Wharton is in second.
04:50The Rockstar Energy Suzuki candidate back by.
04:54And this is a new team here.
04:56Not a new team, but a new bike.
04:58A new sponsor for this team, for this outfit.
05:01I'm telling you, only two races in.
05:03You can tell that that team is,
05:06they are built to win.
05:08And, whoa!
05:09Oh, boy!
05:10How about, talk about loss of traction,
05:13and Weimer had all the weight on the rear tire
05:15and wheelied into that triple jump.
05:17And you notice, he didn't back up the throttle.
05:19He just powered right through it
05:21because that triple, with these light spikes,
05:23has been really tough here in the racing.
05:26It didn't look so tough in the heat,
05:27but since we hit the heat race,
05:30something has changed it.
05:31That's pretty much all he could do, right?
05:33He just had to grab a full handful of throttle
05:35and just hope for the best.
05:36Josh Hansen in the pits.
05:41Remember, he had that big crash on the opening lap.
05:45Looks like he's trying to re-enter the event.
05:48Meanwhile, Blake Wharton out front.
05:52Going for career win number two.
05:55Well, Wharton, he is really dialed in here
05:59and focused in this main event.
06:02And this reminds me a lot of his first Supercross Lights win.
06:07He kind of just got out there, did his own thing.
06:10The rest of the riders were just scrambled behind him.
06:13Can he pull it off here tonight in Phoenix?
06:19Blake Wharton through the woods and into the sand.
06:23We'll follow the race to the finish when we come back to Phoenix.
06:53And the opening round in Angel Stadium.
07:06Blake Wharton finished fourth behind Weimer, Kennard, and Morris.
07:10Tonight, he leads them all as we're past the halfway point.
07:14At round number two, the West Coast Championship season.
07:18There's Morris, there's Weimer, and Hahn is now between Weimer and Kennard once again.
07:26I'm telling you, this is a stacked field, Ralph.
07:28And for Hahn to be up there battling, to get past Kennard, Weimer,
07:34making a couple of mistakes, falling back to third, Morris.
07:40All the riders are running inside of the 55-second lap time,
07:44so they've actually sped up by about a second a lap.
07:47That just tells you that the intensity here in Phoenix for this top five,
07:51these riders are hungry, they're fit,
07:54they see the opportunity to win a Lights main event.
07:57Speaking of hungry, how about Will Hahn?
07:59He has put on some great performances the last two weeks here now.
08:03Really has been working hard on it.
08:06A fifth a week ago, right now running fourth.
08:10Two rounds, maybe two top fives.
08:13What a great way to kick off his season.
08:15Well, this is a new ride for Will Hahn here on that Lucas Oil Honda.
08:19And he looked very strong last week, looks great again this week.
08:26All the riders are kind of pacing themselves,
08:28but with six laps to go, maybe lap 12 or so,
08:32that's when if a rider's getting a little tired, a little arm pump, fatigue,
08:36that's when the mistakes will set in.
08:38So we'll see who is fit and who is strong all the way to the finish.
08:42There's Wharton.
08:48Starting to be pressured here.
08:50Lauren's starting to creep into the frame.
08:53And look what's just in front of Wharton here,
08:56and that's some Laughed Riders.
08:57Not through the rhythm sections.
09:00Other sections might be pretty mellow,
09:01but if he catches these Laughed Riders in the whoops
09:04and in the sand section,
09:06it's going to be really hard for a Laughed Rider
09:07to get out of the main line.
09:09Yeah.
09:09That could really slow his pace.
09:12He's going to skip the sand section there.
09:16Looks like the first rider they engage is a 592.
09:21Jake Canada.
09:23It's his Kawasaki cleanly out of the way,
09:25and the top three all go by.
09:27So here we go.
09:29Weimer really starting to lay it down.
09:32Starting to close up on Morris.
09:35And if Morris keeps focused on what is in front of him
09:39and not what's behind him,
09:40that will really push his pace,
09:43and they will more than likely reel in Wharton.
09:46That is such a hard thing to do.
09:49I know everybody talks about that,
09:51but if you've ever been in a race
09:53and you've had people behind you
09:54and you're trying to focus on what's in front of you,
09:56it is really hard to ignore
09:58when you've got a guy like a Jake Weimer
10:00right on your tail.
10:01Well, when you see Weimer,
10:02he's very patient and calculated a bit.
10:04Inside, through the whoops,
10:06he really closed up going into the sand.
10:09Well, and you have to be careful.
10:11He had all that momentum going up the left side,
10:13but if you get in too hot,
10:15you get into that sand turn,
10:16there's no way.
10:17You just can't make that front tire stick
10:19to pull off the path.
10:21And you talked about how quick the turning radius
10:23is on these bikes.
10:24Knike that front wheel in there and you're down.
10:26Well, it's hitting more than one rider here tonight.
10:30Uh-oh, Morris.
10:34Boy, Wharton hanging on there.
10:35He's got four to go.
10:38Look how the top three have just really bunched up here.
10:41The riders 55-second lap times.
10:44And Jeff, as you'll notice,
10:46as the names go across the top of the screen,
10:48Kennard is dropping like a rock.
10:50He's all the way down to seven.
10:53That's going to be a huge impact on this championship.

12:35Eleven times, Ryan Morris has stood on the podium
12:38at an AMA Monster Energy FIM World Championship Supercross,
12:43but he's never been on the top step.
12:45Can he fend off his former teammate?
12:48Weimer takes the lead away.
12:51What a strong move by Jake Weimer,
12:53and what this comes down to is the belief.
12:56The belief Weimer says,
12:57I belong in front.
12:59Makes the move.

13:55and it's going to be Jake Weimer
13:57keeping the season perfect.
13:59Another win as he lights the candles here in Phoenix.
