00:00Yes, sir. Thank you, Lucius. It is the G-Bag Nation here on the Fan Time.
00:03Now for Krusty's Corner, brought to you by Greystone Roofing.
00:05Go to greystone-roofing.com.
00:08Hey, hey, kids! Your old pal Krusty's gonna teach you five new words!
00:12You're not wrong about that.
00:14From Dallas, Texas, number 55, Brian Brothers.
00:18Thank you very much, Lucius. Appreciate you playing that for me,
00:21and thank you to Greystone for being a part of that.
00:25I said I missed you guys while I was gone.
00:28Bet you really did.
00:29I did. I didn't miss you guys.
00:31I missed doing the work.
00:32I was still doing stuff over, though, at the studio.
00:35You had a great guest list.
00:37We did, yeah.
00:38We had Drew Fabianich came over behind the scenes for a little scouting stuff.
00:44Ed Werder came over. Brad Sham came over.
00:46So, yeah, I got Darren Woodson coming over here soon, too.
00:49Yeah.
00:49So, we're just kind of working on some things.
00:52I got a text from Brad Sham today.
00:53He asked for your number.
00:55Yeah. He's so cunning.
00:56Was he asking me questions or something?
01:01He was sizing me up.
01:02I guess he's got a shirt that says,
01:04I'm an idiot that he wants to give me.
01:06Well, I guess I'm going to get the same shirt, too,
01:08because I gave him my size.
01:09Okay, nice.
01:10I just don't think he had your number, so he needed it.
01:14I don't know what he's doing, but it's very nice of him, whatever.
01:16It's probably something to do with the Cowboys radio network.
01:19I'm excited, dude.
01:20Yeah.
01:20I might say we're idiots on it.
01:22You're excited about free clothes.
01:24Just mine.
01:24Free clothes, right?
01:25Is that what you're excited about?
01:26Yeah.
01:28Some of the stuff, though, that myself and Vodge Lombardi were doing on our podcast work,
01:32we were talking about within the division with the Cowboys
01:36and kind of going through position by position to see post-draft where the Cowboys are
01:46as far as ranking within the division at certain positions.
01:51Okay.
01:51And I was just curious if, you know, and we could do this as a group if you would,
01:56because I was curious what you guys thought,
01:58because we feel like the assessment we had overall, offensively and defensively,
02:07that the commanders are the most talent-poor team in the division.
02:12Yeah, I think that's probably fair.
02:14When you look at position by position.
02:16The Giants improved dramatically through the draft,
02:20and Washington had the least amount of picks of anybody in the division.
02:24Sure.
02:24So, I mean, that probably hurt them, but they did do a lot of free agency.
02:27Free agency and stuff like that.
02:29But when you broke it down, and let's, if we could, okay,
02:36if you were to say, where would you have the Dallas Cowboys,
02:42and let's go defensively here.
02:44You know, maybe we'll go back and do the offense tomorrow.
02:47But where would you have the Dallas Cowboys?
02:50And you're probably going to have to kind of mix and match this a little bit
02:54because, you know, the positions of being a 3-4 and a 4-3 and stuff like that.
02:59But where do you think the Cowboys are within the division at defensive end?
03:06And think of the defensive end as the pass rusher.
03:10I think they're all base 3-4.
03:12I think they're all going to be base 3-4.
03:13Okay.
03:14Okay, then, where would you say with the Cowboys?
03:19And just look at the starters.
03:20Just look at the starters.
03:21And you could take it as Donovan Ezraku and then Rashawn Gary.
03:28We felt like that maybe the Giants were the best team when it came to their edge.
03:36Yeah.
03:36Brian Burns and Adlo Carter.
03:38Yeah.
03:38Yeah.
03:38That's dominant.
03:40Yeah, I would agree with that.
03:42Are the Cowboys then, are they behind Philadelphia on the edges now?
03:48Yeah, I mean, they got Jonathan Grenard.
03:50Like, Grenard is better than Gary and Ezraku.
03:53A player that's probably about ready to break out here.
03:56I think he led the team in sacks last year.
03:58It wasn't a big number, but yeah, Jalex Hunt.
04:01I mean, Grenard is better than both Ezraku and Gary for the Eagles.
04:07I think at the end of the year, the Cowboys could be two on this.
04:11Right now, I'm comfortable saying that they're three.
04:13Any chance that they're four?
04:15There is a chance.
04:16There is a chance.
04:17If Chason can continue his success.
04:19An Odafeo way?
04:20Yeah.
04:20I mean, like, if Chason...
04:21Chason's really only ever had one good year and it was in New England.
04:24Right.
04:25So, is he able to have another good year with Washington?
04:28If he does, then there is a chance just from sack production numbers.
04:34All right, going into this, are you going to say they're three or four?
04:37I'll say three.
04:38In the division.
04:39I think they're fourth because, you know, when you look at Washington, you also have to include
04:43Dorrance Armstrong, who's not starting in Louvoo.
04:46Yeah, I was just getting the starters.
04:48We just kind of went starting off the 11 is what we were going to say.
04:53Yeah, I would say even starting.
04:54Yeah.
04:55I mean, starting, the Cowboys might end up with 10 sacks out of Ezraku and Gary.
05:00You know, and I think all the other groups are looking at 15 to 20.
05:04Okay.
05:04How about the defensive tackles?
05:07And I did it in a way where it was the Quinnen Williams and then the Kenny Clark is how
05:14I
05:14looked at it as compared to the others.
05:17If you were talking two for, you know...
05:19Yeah, they're probably two.
05:20Two for two.
05:21And it'd be behind Philly.
05:23Yeah.
05:23With Carter and Davis.
05:24And they have a chance to be one, you know, if Kenny Clark...
05:27That's what I was saying.
05:27We came up with that Philly was number one.
05:30Yeah, Philly's one.
05:30I think Dallas would be two.
05:32We felt like that the Commanders...
05:34Okay, if the Giants had kept Dexter Lawrence, that might push them a little bit closer.
05:41Sure.
05:41Especially if they still ended up with Reeder.
05:43Yeah.
05:44How far do you feel like they are from being, like, number one?
05:49The Cowboys?
05:49Yeah.
05:50I don't think they're very far.
05:51Yeah, they're not very far.
05:52I mean, Quinnen Williams is probably better than...
05:56I mean, based off last season, I remember Baldy was saying, like, Jordan Davis was better
06:00than he was.
06:01Jalen Carter last year.
06:02Now, Jalen Carter is looking like he is in its best shape of your life season.
06:06Okay.
06:06And he has taken that seriously.
06:07It looks like he's...
06:08Because Jordan Davis did that a year ago, played his best.
06:11Now it looks like Jalen Carter's done this where he's trying to shed weight.
06:14But yeah, I think Quinnen Williams is the best defensive tackle in the division.
06:17It's just, I would probably take the tandem of Davis and Carter.
06:21Over Kenny Clark.
06:22But I think that it is close.
06:24And I think Kenny Clark, especially if he's able to be healthy, can absolutely put them
06:28at one.
06:30How about the linebacker situation?
06:32Now, and I'm taking...
06:33I'm looking at the names of Overshawn and D Winters here.
06:37Now, if you want to substitute Barham for Overshawn and make it, you know, you can do that.
06:43But I went with just the Overshawn and Winters.
06:48Where do you think they are within the division right now as we sit?
06:53It's tough because I think a healthy Overshawn is going to be really good.
06:57But they're not better than Philadelphia, right?
06:59No, I mean, Zach Bond.
07:01Credit to Bond.
07:02And then John Campbell.
07:03Yeah.
07:04I mean, look, this one's a tough one because a lot of it's projection.
07:07Right.
07:08Like, you've got Sonny Stiles.
07:09You've got Arvel Reese.
07:11Right.
07:11Who I both think are going to be really good.
07:14But right now, I think you've seen a year of D Winters starting.
07:17You kind of know what he is, and that's a good NFL player.
07:20And if Overshawn's healthy.
07:21So I'd put them ahead of those rookies right now.
07:24So I'd probably have them at two.
07:27Dawson?
07:30There's a chance they'll be two for the first half of the season.
07:34Second half of the season when these rookies start coming around.
07:37All right.
07:38I'm going to ask you this question, then.
07:39If you guys feel like that they're two, is that still needy for you?
07:46Yeah, because you can't.
07:47Health is, what's their depth look like?
07:50Right?
07:51And their depth is not good.
07:52Yeah, the Eagles are the standard.
07:54The standard isn't the division.
07:55You know, Emmitt Smith was talking about that earlier in the week.
07:58Like, job number one's winning your division.
08:00I'm like, man, that's so old school.
08:01Don't tell me that.
08:02That means you can't evaluate your roster.
08:05Right?
08:05They need more good players, Brian.
08:07You know, and whether you look at a position group to position group or as a whole, Philadelphia
08:12has like four or five more good players than the Cowboys do right now.
08:16But if you do, it's funny, if you do the offense, you find that Dallas is clearly better
08:21than all the other teams in a lot of areas.
08:25For sure.
08:25You know, I mean, but see, what I'm getting from you guys is, do you guys feel like that
08:31Dallas is closer to the Philadelphia Eagles, closer by position by position?
08:39I don't get the feeling that you guys feel this is very distressed.
08:45Well, if you, I mean, if you want to win 10 games and go to the wildcard round or divisional
08:50round, I think you're right in line to do that.
08:52Okay.
08:52You know, I would, I would be stressed out though, because we only have a couple of more
08:56years of Dax Prime.
08:58Okay.
08:58I don't know how good the division is either.
09:01Like, I think that it is a much more talented division, but there's so many, I mean, honestly,
09:06you might put them at three because they don't even have Frankie Louvoo starting at weak side
09:10linebacker.
09:11I think he would.
09:12So I would take Frankie Louvoo and Sonny Stiles over Dee Winters and Barham or Obershaw
09:20personally.
09:20I think Louvoo's a stud.
09:22How about if you did the cornerbacks?
09:24If you went Bland and say, I'm not going to start Ravel, I'm going to start Durant.
09:29Okay.
09:30You're going to go, I'm going to go Bland and Durant.
09:33Well, the Eagles, Eagles are going to be one here.
09:36They're going to be one.
09:36With Quinion Mitchell.
09:38Dejean is kind of, I don't know, but they still got, what, Tariq Wollin as well at corner.
09:44So the Eagles are going to be one for sure when it comes to the corners.
09:48The commanders probably last.
09:51Yeah, you might put, you might put the Giants at two just because of health right now.
09:58Like Greg Newsom is a really good player.
09:59I think he's underrated.
10:00And I kind of feel like that Hood's going to start for them.
10:03Yeah, I think he could end up starting two.
10:05Yeah, I'd probably put the, I'd probably put the Cowboys at three in this one.
10:09And I kind of felt like, though, to me that Dallas, as much as I really do want to believe
10:15in Ravel,
10:16I think Durant's a good player for, I think Durant's going to be a good player for these guys.
10:21I think, so I worry about Bland more than anything.
10:23I think, I think, I think Devin Moore's going to help you.
10:26I wouldn't be surprised if Devin Moore is, as a rookie, steps in there.
10:30And we're like wondering why Devin Moore's not starting, you know?
10:35So, yeah, yeah, I would pick the Cowboys second.
10:38And I think if Caleb Downs is really going to be the nickel player, he counts in there as well.
10:43Yeah, I included him in the safety group is what I did.
10:47So I took him, I made him the starter at safety, but I made him and Jalen Thompson the starters.
10:55I think safety could be one.
10:58I think that, I think where, if you want to tell me where the, where the Philadelphia Eagles on defense
11:02are really poor.
11:05I agree.
11:05I think their safety group is, is the one that they, they've got to, they've got to have concerns about
11:12that.
11:12Well, okay, so I was literally reading today, it looks like Cooper Dejean is going to be the starting safety.
11:17And then on obvious passing downs, I guess he'll be the nickel.
11:19Okay.
11:20So like to roll it out, it'll be Makuba and Dejean, I think starting at safety for them.
11:24Okay, if that's going to be the case, then I think that, that, that helps, that helps the Eagles.
11:30But I, if you want to call a defensive weakness on the Eagles, to me, and I can see why
11:36they moved Cooper Dejean to safety.
11:38Yeah, because Marcus Epps is not very good.
11:39No, not at all.
11:42So, but do you think, okay, when you start to look at this though, where, like, where do you think
11:48Hooker, where he fits in all this?
11:51Do you think Hooker remains the starter here?
11:53No, I think if you are playing your traditional defense, then your two safeties are going to be Thompson and
11:59Downs.
12:00I think when you move into nickel and now you've got Downs moving into the nickel spot, that's where you'll
12:05see Malik Hooker rotate in.
12:07And it might even be P.J. Locke.
12:08I mean, I think that this is going to, I think the Cowboys have the best safety group in the
12:12division now.
12:13They turned a weakness into a strength.
12:14Like, that clearly is their best part of the, you would say their safety group is better than their defensive
12:19tackle group?
12:21Positionally?
12:22I think they've got better depth there.
12:23Yeah, I do.
12:24Yeah, I think all four of those guys are, would be starters on some teams.
12:28I think that Quinnen Williams is probably the best out of all the players.
12:32But then afterwards, like, I think Jalen Thompson or Caleb Downs, whoever you want to put as your second, is
12:39probably better than Kenny Clark right now in this stage of his career.
12:42Sure.
12:42So that's why I would give safety probably a slight edge.
12:45Yeah, I just kind of get the feeling here that we don't think this defense is bad as it was.
12:50Now, maybe the improvements that they made gave it a chance, but I kind of feel like...
12:54Well, did we have them last in the edge rusher group?
12:57Like, that's extremely important.
12:59Yeah.
13:00So your pass rush right there, potentially worse than the division.
13:04We saw what happened last year with this thing.
13:05And I got a big discussion today.
13:07I blamed Iberflus for not adapting to the players he had.
13:13And I got pushback on that because the argument on the other side was the players weren't good enough.
13:19Yeah, and I think both are true.
13:21I mean, it's clear that they have admitted the personnel was bad.
13:24I mean, look at all the players that they've moved on from.
13:27Yeah.
13:27Yeah, the players were not good, but Iberflus also was very stubborn in his ways and really not...
13:32I think the coach killed them.
13:34Yeah.
13:34I think the coach killed them with what he was doing last year.
13:38Your only way to get stopped was to be more aggressive, and he got more conservative.
13:42He feared giving up the big play, and that's all he did.
13:46Yeah.
13:46He got worse at it.
13:47But their safeties also were horrible.
13:49Yeah.
13:50And now they've upgraded that.
13:51Maybe the best in the league.
13:53Yeah.
13:54Yeah, excited about that.
13:55And I think, to your point or your question about Hooker, I think it's Hooker and Locke is one of
14:00the actual camp battles.
14:01Yeah.
14:02I agree.
14:02Of guys to be the deep safety.
14:04All right.
14:05Thank you, Brian.
14:05Thank you, man.
14:06This is Corner Brought to you by Greystone Roofing.
