00:00Is there any division in football that's had a more embarrassing recent run than the NFC East?
00:07Let's talk about it and get an early look at the practice week for the Cowboys as they prepare to
00:11take on the Green Bay Packers
00:13who absolutely beat down the Chicago Bears on Sunday.
00:17Let's talk about it with Nick Eatman, who is brought to you by the WinStar World Casino and Resort.
00:22Proud to be the casino of the Dallas Cowboys.
00:24Please game responsibly.
00:25Nicholas, can you think of a week that's just more embarrassing for a division
00:32than the winless NFC East this weekend, which included two teams from the NFC East playing each other?
00:39Yeah, it was pretty bad.
00:41I mean, when you look at how the games ended, and starting on Thursday, obviously, with the Cowboys,
00:48and then, you know, Philadelphia.
00:51I mean, boy, it sure does suck to lose a game like that.
00:55But, you know, and overseas, and then have to fly all the way back.
00:58Like, I don't know how.
00:59I don't know what that was.
01:03Here's the question I just don't know, and you guys would know this.
01:06Did Jacksonville have a timeout?
01:08No.
01:09No.
01:09Okay.
01:10Then I think they did it right.
01:11I think Philly did it right.
01:12You just didn't cover it.
01:14I mean, I think that's the smart move.
01:18I think that is what changes it.
01:21Wait, wait, wait.
01:21No, no, no.
01:22If they don't have a timeout, I'm sorry.
01:24I said it wrong.
01:25No, that's when you kick it through the end zone.
01:27My bad.
01:28Yeah.
01:29I mean, I guess a lot of it's going to rely on the result, too.
01:34Like, if they kick it the way they kicked it, and they tackle him at, you know, the 35-yard,
01:41their own 35.
01:42Yeah.
01:43They've had trouble tackling.
01:45But, like, you know, once he broke through that wall, like, let's say they tackle him
01:47at that wall, now there's only four seconds to go.
01:51Like, then it looks like the right move.
01:53Yeah.
01:54I guess, you know, another thing I don't know is the conditions and all that.
01:58I mean, sometimes it isn't even possible to just kick it.
02:01You know, we think, oh, yeah, Aubrey, just kick it deep.
02:03But sometimes, you know, we're going to see that as the weather gets colder, that it'll
02:09be, it'll change some of the kickoffs.
02:11But, you know, that gets trumped by what happened with the Giants and Commanders.
02:17That was unbelievable.
02:20And it was kind of, I didn't watch most of that game, but, you know, and I thought it
02:23was over.
02:24I was like, oh, what's the three o'clock game, you know?
02:27And then it was still playing, and I'm like, wait, they went to overtime, and so I watched
02:31it, and I can honestly say, as I'm watching it, I was thinking, this doesn't add up right.
02:38Like, something's weird here.
02:39The timing of it, like, what are they doing?
02:41What are they not doing?
02:42Like, either they need to speed up or slow down.
02:45But it just didn't look right.
02:47And sure enough, I mean, it was the damnedest thing.
02:52I've never seen that, and nobody on Washington had urgency.
02:56No lineman saw it.
02:58The quarterback, I got questions about him now, because that's unbelievable.
03:03And the coach, I mean, that's, but can you imagine, all I could think of was being on
03:08here at 920 on Monday, if that was the Cowboys, I was like, could you imagine?
03:12Oh, gosh.
03:12Oh, my God.
03:13Well, yeah, the way, I mean, just the timing that they had left, the way that they played
03:17it, and ultimately the inability, because, I mean, Jaden Daniels just lays there for,
03:23like, two, three seconds looking like he thinks there's a timeout.
03:26But, I mean, I still think, I had talked about this, and again, I got to look for the pool
03:30report.
03:30I got to see if anybody asked about this.
03:32The Giants players looked like they were very slowly, like, one of them stepped on the
03:36ball.
03:37Like, I looked at it, and I was like, that to me is delay a game.
03:40Like, the NFL's really tried to cut back on that lane on top of people and slowing it
03:44down.
03:44I'm surprised that didn't get delay a game.
03:46We got Nick Eatman with us here on 105 Through the Fan.
03:50Nick, does this feel like, after a victory over the Bucs last week and an absolute beatdown
03:56of the Chicago Bears on Sunday, does this feel like you're catching Green Bay at maybe the
04:01wrong time?
04:02No.
04:04Not really.
04:04It doesn't.
04:05Not in this league.
04:07I would, if they would have lost, I would have thought it would be even more dangerous.
04:12It's just a weird league like that.
04:14But it happens, I think, you know, look at who, now, Cowboys defense, let's don't worry
04:21about that for a second.
04:22Look at the Packers.
04:24Who do the Packers play?
04:25They play a guy on their very first start, Jalen Daniels, who looked a lot better in his
04:28second start.
04:29But they played him, and then, you know, they play a Bears backup, third quarterback.
04:34They're trying to figure it out.
04:36You know, I do think with 10 days from pair, the offense, this offense is still a good offense
04:41for the Cowboys.
04:42And I think, you know, going up against Dak, and it's going to be a challenge that'll be
04:48tougher for that Green Bay team.
04:50I mean, they only put 40 on them last year with Micah there.
04:54So I think it's still going to be a challenge for Green Bay.
04:56Definitely a challenge for the Cowboys on the other side.
04:59So I'm not saying, you know, they've got their own problems in their house.
05:03But the way this league goes, as soon as you think you've got something figured out, I
05:08mean, I would be more worried about the Packers limping into this game like Tampa did than
05:14the way it is now, honestly.
05:16What is the biggest thing that you're monitoring this week for the Cowboys?
05:20They've obviously got a little bit of an open locker room today.
05:22You know, Brian Schottenheim will speak.
05:24Is it the bounce back, the demeanor, everything in the wake of what was a really brutal loss?
05:29Or is it more, all right, where do we stand with some of these injuries, like with Tyler
05:33Guyton and some of the guys that they're looking to get back?
05:35I think both is accurate, honestly.
05:39I mean, both things can be true here.
05:40Let's see what the injuries look like.
05:42And then, you know, as long as it's not, you know, as long as there are things you can
05:48be positive about, that will probably help the demeanor of it.
05:52But I have a feeling that this team will bounce back and bring a lot of energy in that game
06:00Sunday night.
06:00You know, now, do they sustain it?
06:03You know what I mean?
06:04It's one thing.
06:05They'll be ready to play.
06:06They'll be as healthy, obviously, as they can be.
06:09And I think they will be a healthier team this week.
06:11But, you know, when the one thing happens, whatever it is, whatever it is, it's a fumble
06:19here or a bad penalty here, can this team just keep it going?
06:24Because that's the one thing that we've seen is that they don't seem to handle the adversity
06:29that well.
06:31And so, now, Houston was an exception there.
06:35They did keep bouncing back.
06:37But for the most part, you know, I want to see them get that energy, play well early, and
06:42then keep it rolling.
06:43It's interesting you say that because they were resilient in that Houston game.
06:48Does it feel like their resilience literally is week to week?
06:52Yeah, and I think, you know, that could be said about, I mean, that screams like an eight
07:00and nine or nine and eight football team, which is what we've seen.
07:03And, in fact, we haven't even seen that in a couple of years as they've been at the seven
07:07win mark.
07:08But, yeah, I think that's kind of the nature of the NFL unless you're just good enough to
07:15get through it or bad enough to stay down there.
07:18And the Cowboys just haven't been either one right now.
07:22Nick Eben from DallasCowboys.com joining us here on 105 Through the Fan.
07:26Nick, which is more difficult or which bears more watching, you think, in terms of the
07:32response?
07:33Because the Baltimore game was one where everybody talked about that could have broken your spirit.
07:37How do they respond?
07:39How are they going to come out here?
07:40They obviously slow start against Houston, but they bounce back.
07:43They answer the questions.
07:44They silence some of the critics.
07:46Is a game like that more difficult?
07:48Is it more difficult to respond to the following week, or is it more difficult to respond to
07:51one where it's like, hey, you got beat down, and there's people just questioning how much
07:58you're locked in, how much you are focused on the task at hand?
08:01Is that a more difficult thing to manage throughout the week, you think?
08:05Yeah.
08:05I think this one, I still think the Rio one was tougher to manage just because of the bounce back,
08:15just because of the trip, the travel, and the injuries, how physical that game was.
08:21I think more than anything, just having the extra days is the easier one.
08:26Now, psychologically, I understand what you're asking.
08:28I mean, you're, you know, oh, you lost to a really close Ravens team that you could have
08:32won, and man, you just got beat by a backup quarterback in Tampa Bay, and they were better
08:37than you.
08:38And your backup quarterback was the best quarterback on the field.
08:40Yeah.
08:41I mean, he was.
08:41So, and now, is he the best quarterback?
08:44No, you know what I'm saying here, but, you know, Dak wasn't his best.
08:49No.
08:50And so, there's a lot of questions there.
08:52I'll be really surprised, though, if this team doesn't play one of its better games,
08:57if not the best game this Sunday.
08:59This is a gift.
09:00Playing the Packers in early October.
09:03Oh, yeah.
09:03On the road, or mid-October.
09:05That's a gift, man.
09:05They very easily could have played this game on December 7th, and just been in some zero
09:12temperatures.
09:12And kind of surprised that the schedule makers didn't, knowing that Micah was hurt, and coming
09:20back when he was going to come back, I was really surprised that they didn't put this
09:24later in the season for that reason, and to also make it like Ice Bowl 3 or whatever.
09:31Nick, where are we looking at right now, or what kind of timeline do you think we're looking
09:35at in regards to DeMarvy and Overshawn's return?
09:38Obviously, Kobe Durant is one that they've been watching and having issues at cornerback
09:42with.
09:43Yeah, well, I mean, with Overshawn, you know, he could have obviously gone to IR at this
09:50point.
09:50You know, I mean, I'm not saying that they actually needed the roster spot or whatever,
09:55but, you know, with missing four games now, I would imagine that he would be ready here.
10:01I mean, it looks like he's been ready for the last couple weeks.
10:04As far as what we've seen, but then again, I don't know the feel of it.
10:08I would think he would be at that point where he could be ready to go, and same with Durant,
10:14pretty close for both of them.
10:16Probably not too far away from P.J.
10:18Locke either, but he's on IR, and forgive me on how many weeks he's got left on that
10:26one.
10:26It probably is another one or two for him.
10:29But it does look like he, you know, I see him out there on the field, too, and looking
10:34like, you know, they're turning the corner there, and I would imagine the illness, you
10:39know, for Joey Porter is good.
10:41I mean, he magically healed the back, so I would imagine that he could, you know, get healed
10:46up here with the sickness.
10:48Yeah, he's shown he's a quick healer.
10:50There you go.
10:51All right, Nick, we appreciate you, and we will talk to you again on Wednesday.
10:53Wait, wait, John.
10:55Yeah.
10:55I know.
10:57You almost got me.
10:58You almost got me.
10:59For me, it's horseshoes, hand grenades, and Arkansas.
11:03Close matters, okay?
11:04Yeah, listen.
11:05Close matters.
11:05Well, I got you.
11:06I was at the last game where we beat you guys in Arkansas.
11:11Really?
11:12Like a lightning delay.
11:13Wasn't it like a weather delay and all that?
11:15It took for...
11:16Honestly, I don't even remember that being in Fayetteville.
11:18I think it was at War Memorial.
11:20Oh, okay.
11:20But it was...
11:22Maybe not.
11:23Maybe that was the 99 game.
11:24But either way, we never beat y'all there.
11:26Ever.
11:27No.
11:27Ever.
11:28It was a close one.
11:29We played all right against the backup quarterback.
11:32Of course, we have a backup quarterback, too.
11:34He just starts.
11:36See, at least one team handled business against a backup quarterback.
11:39That's good news, even though the Cowboys couldn't.
11:42Sorry about that.
11:43Yeah, well, yeah, yeah.
11:44You know, Texas, we've got a backup quarterback that's playing.
11:46We've got a third-string quarterback that's playing in arch.
11:49So, thank you, Nick.
11:50We appreciate you.
11:50Wow.
11:51Bye.
