00:00the great bobby belt bobby knows ball hey let's talk ball where the ball knowers and we just talk
00:06ball with apologies to mike mccarthy maybe let's talk about it here in below the belt which is
00:15sponsored by dnm leasing check them out at dm auto leasing.com a brutal week for the nfc east
00:24an absolutely brutal week now i just saw on uh fox 4 and as many of you know um i
00:31have not been
00:32consuming fox 4 since the peyton may departure i appreciate all the kind notes everybody sent me
00:39all the thoughts and prayers they've been given um but i've not i it's been too tough to watch it
00:44to consume it without peyton may there chop and uh but i did just have to see peyton
00:50they just have to see peyton russell added up on in the studio in there and they had a poll
00:55question
00:55they'd been running with their listeners of who had the most embarrassing or who had the worst
01:01like week in the nfc east and the options were the cowboys blowout loss which won in a landslide of
01:09course that's going to be tough for a dallas audience yep uh commander's clock management
01:14giants fumble eagles late field goal loss so after cowboys what order do you think those were
01:21stacked in for the viewers of fox 4 commander's clock management giants fumble it's either going
01:28to be commanders or eagles the giants fumbles i mean the most insignificant and it's the most
01:32insignificant in the end right uh i think commanders is the most embarrassing commanders was 22 that was
01:41that was heavy that was the third place but last place was the eagles lost they thought the giants
01:46fumble was more embarrassing or worse than the one for the kid for the eagles yeah that's a little
01:53tough for me to to swallow but this was regardless a weekend where you saw a lot of people commenting
01:57the nfc east is just awful and this is this is the week of complete embarrassment it's the nfc east
02:05goes
02:05this entire week without a victory even though two of the teams were playing each other it's it's a bad
02:11spot to be in and while that's going on and while the cowboys are sitting here feeling a little
02:16miserable feeling like their heads are hanging down and man how much worse can it get than getting just
02:24owned physically dominated by an owen for buccaneers team i was getting a lot of tweets yesterday
02:31chop yeah from people saying did you see that colts lose by double digits to big mike
02:40and the pittsburgh steelers and the pittsburgh steelers now sit at three and two a winning
02:46record undefeated at home three you know uh and i believe if the playoffs were to start today they
02:53would be tied for the seventh seed they'd lose it on the tiebreaker but they'd be tied for the
02:57seventh seed right there uh along with the basically everybody in the wild garden out it'd be patriots
03:03broncos raiders browns steelers bengals are all tied for that um but they're in a spot right now
03:11where hey you're you're looking like you're competitive they beat atlanta 20 to 13 they
03:16then lost handily to the patriots 20 to 3 the next week uh they beat the bengals 30 to 27
03:23that's their
03:23best victory of the year i'd say and then they just scrape by lose on the road against the browns
03:2927 24 that was the infamous bleep and bleep hole from mike mccarthy on the sideline towards aaron
03:36rogers and then yesterday they handle finally they get a comfortable sort of victory against the colts
03:41and they went at 134 to 22 and i was getting a lot of a lot of tweets yesterday from
03:46a lot of people
03:46saying this is this is showing you mike can rally mike can make anybody competitive this is where we're at
03:55i think that the question of can mike mccarthy be successful in the nfl can mike mccarthy take a
04:05group of players and elevate them uh yeah i think mike mccarthy's best fit as an nfl head coach
04:15is probably a team that's been worn down by like a heavy-handed belichick type
04:23uh that's very wade phillips 2007 yes yes 100 worn down by belichick type they were worn down by
04:32parcels i mean even though guys loved bill because he brought there's an exhaustion factor there's no
04:38doubt there's an exhaustion factor parcels and and those parcels teams did they not crater in december
04:45every year yeah december was always brutal for them december and then january obviously yeah but
04:51yeah they would always struggle with that um take a team like that 07 cowboys team is a good example
04:58um trying to think of another team who would be like similar broncos if the broncos let sean payton go
05:05and they've been close that's a that's the kind of team that i look at and go that could be
05:11a breath
05:12of fresh air the mccarthy style preserving your body little more optimistic little more familial you
05:19don't feel like you've got like just a like just ass whip of a head coach like lording over you
05:26all
05:26the time the way sean payton does that's the fit so pittsburgh having been through mike tomlin who is
05:34100 that way a lot of people like him but he can be he can be heavy-handed yeah and
05:38he can be a lot we
05:39played that cut earlier of cam scadaboo fumbling made me throw up in my mouth i was so disgusted he
05:44can be aggressive but i think you're seeing all right pittsburgh is feeling a little bit of
05:49the exhale from a style that exists with mccarthy's now the tension can kind of be eroded by or the
05:56lack
05:56of tension can be eroded by the fact that if rogers and mccarthy start scrapping with each other like
06:02they have a tendency to do but right now it's working out fine fight like siblings i would still say
06:09and you tell me if you think i'm wrong chop you got to be the the honest evaluation here the
06:14arbiter of honesty yeah you got you got to say because i'm going to say that i think i'm i'm
06:20being fair to mccarthy here and talking about the context in which he can be a successful head coach
06:25and he can elevate a football team mike mccarthy
06:31still needed to go here like it had still run its course here even if you like him even if
06:39you
06:39think that's a really good head coach and you think he's better than brian schottenheimer and
06:45you think brian schottenheimer shouldn't be here anymore which we'll we'll see how shoddy kind of
06:50carries on again i think it is interesting that there was universal i'd say 80 of the fan base had
06:58positive approval ratings for schottenheimer heading into the season roughly would you say
07:02yeah i mean there were a handful that didn't like it or didn't like him but for the most part
07:06still liked him so just as quickly as that flips in five weeks it can flip back i'm not saying
07:13it
07:13will but i'm just saying i wouldn't say anything settled on schottenheimer right now any opinion
07:18either way no it's not settled we're in the review period and right now it's in a bad part of
07:22the
07:22review and you're going okay are you gonna rally from this or is this gonna kill you
07:24i think that the honest fair opinion though is still regardless of if you wanted schottenheimer
07:30here or not it could not be mccarthy any longer that had run its course it had been it had
07:37been
07:37five years an opportunity to say be better than garrett do stuff in january that garrett didn't do
07:44and even though september through december he was better than garrett like the record says he was better
07:51even though that exists january he showed pretty consistently those teams underperformed and they
07:57continued to revert back to their problems they were not prepared to go in there and play against
08:02the tougher more physical football teams and after a while the drama of just will they won't they and
08:07i think how mccarthy internalized some of that and got frustrated by it it became it got to a point
08:12where it didn't it wasn't healthy to bring him back anymore and he had probably maxed out what he could
08:17get with this core um look i think i don't think i don't think i'm breaking news mike's a better
08:23coach
08:25than than shoddy he's a better coach he has a better i mean it remains to be seen yeah i
08:30will say this
08:302023 we've talked about this universally that that locker room would have said shoddy was the better
08:36coach in 23 because shoddy rescued the offense when they were having a lot of trouble at the west coast
08:40so right now he's got a better resume he's got better accolades for sure if shoddy's career ended
08:46tomorrow you could not say shoddy was a better coach yeah i mean but i i don't like again i
08:51think
08:51it's unsettled with shoddy mike's got mike has a track record of being able to be a successful coach
09:01um you know he's he's doing well this year with rogers rogers an old man did well with dak dak
09:05was
09:05really good player obviously rogers was one of the goats when he had him in his prime
09:10um i think that george pickens doesn't have the year he had last year with mike
09:16because i think shoddy managed that situation because that's what shoddy does well as he manages
09:22situations people management is good yeah um now is he a disciplinarian that's the question
09:26they're facing right now look i i like mike a lot um i do think that you know mike's time
09:31and run here
09:34um to me if you're going to get rid of somebody you need to have you need to know the
09:38replacement's
09:38going to be before you just up and get rid of him for anybody 972 says i think mccarthy needed
09:43to go
09:43but only for a guy you know is the guy and then we don't know we don't know what shoddy
09:47is and you
09:48know i think they kind of fell into him yeah i don't think they were when they fired when they
09:51they fired mike mccarthy which they fired him i you know i know there are these people on social
09:55media who like to insinuate i can't wait for shoddy you know mccarthy's side of the story to come
10:00up there was no side of the story he wasn't coming back um he they let him go i don't
10:04think when
10:05they fired mike mccarthy their intention was to hire brian shot no i don't think that was the plan
10:09at all when they did it i i agree um i'll say this um like i'm happier for mike now
10:18than here
10:19um i like mike a lot um and i think that he he fits he him winning a title with
10:29pittsburgh not even a
10:29title him just being the head coach of pittsburgh i think that means more to him than anything else
10:34yeah and i i think that was his dream he relishes he is having the time of his life right
10:40now and uh
10:41and i'm happy for him about that you know i thought i thought he was a good coach here
10:44i thought he represented the organization well uh it but it was it was probably time to go
10:48214 tell bobby to just shut his mouth just admit you're wrong dude for the love
10:53shoddy sucks and is in above his head well 214 uh i'm not gonna shut my mouth and nobody can
10:58tell
10:58me that because it's my segment
10:59you
