00:06good morning guys how you doing we're doing very well now we don't usually do this but
00:12this morning Jerry was on with our morning show and he told a story about being in Green Bay
00:20and he said that there was a hefty gal who just took it all off and put it up on
00:27the window and
00:28there were several people in the car and it left an imprint because it was cold and he said it's
00:33something none of us will ever forget were you in that car and do you remember this story
00:40oh yes I remember it and I was in there and unfortunately the one closest uh to the scene
00:46of the crime was my mother oh no so anyway it was a oh my god did that just happen
00:55but uh
00:56sure enough uh it did happen and uh one of the all-timers in terms of uh uh being at
01:03a uh
01:04away team's uh stadium but uh you know those people are out there having fun and laughing
01:10and grinning and uh uh so anyway it was it was certainly got our attention well hopefully it
01:17will replicate the outcome in terms of Green Bay loss that last time too so hopefully hopefully
01:23we'll get that and maybe not the rest of it now normally we talk to you on Monday and we
01:30ended up
01:31moving that to today can you tell the people what you were up to yesterday because it's not every
01:36day you just get to hang out with a former president yeah well we had a big deal uh yesterday
01:42uh uh you know Jerry and uh President Clinton are certainly uh some of the top Arkansans to uh
01:49ever uh come out of the state and uh they shared their experience in sports and football and uh
01:56don't know how much y'all know it but uh President Clinton's always been a big Razorback fan and uh
02:02supported everything from the basketball to the football to baseball uh he loves his Razorbacks and
02:09uh has always been a big fan and of course uh you know I don't know for a fact but
02:15he's certainly
02:16close to having a photographic memory and it's amazing uh the names and the stats and the scores
02:22uh that he can remember and uh certainly a special day it was an honor for Jerry to get to
02:28be uh you
02:29know share the uh diocese if you will with President Clinton and uh I think they really gave uh Arkansas
02:35fans and the touchdown club there in Little Rock uh you know some some great memories and some things uh
02:41uh to really take home in terms of uh what the two men have accomplished and their thoughts and
02:48uh on sports and uh Arkansas football and uh basketball and sports and I think it was a great day
02:56uh Stephen this is uh this is definitely not a political thing Kevin this Kevin's always said
03:02if you ever get a chance to meet a president always take advantage of that opportunity sure for whatever
03:08reason like even if you want to just say something you've probably been in a position to meet a
03:12variety of former presidents current presidents do you think you've always kind of come away from
03:17those with those interactions with a unique perspective absolutely I mean any anybody who uh
03:23obviously leads our country uh and has the honor to be elected by the people uh to be selected uh
03:30you
03:31know to lead our country they're special men and uh they all have that in common and you walk away
03:36knowing uh you know that you were ahead you know that you've met somebody who uh is obviously very
03:43special and uh been uh you know been elected by our people uh the trust of our country put in
03:50their
03:50hands and I'm always so impressed uh I've gotten to meet both the Bushes and uh certainly uh have met
03:58uh Obama and President Clinton and uh obviously President Trump but uh I've been very blessed to get to
04:05uh meet a lot of these amazing leaders who've led our country and you know have us in a uh
04:11you know
04:12I know sometimes not ever not everything's perfect by everybody's standard but uh uh and usually these
04:19elections come down to you know 51 percent vote one way and 49 the other but just to be considered
04:25it
04:26was amazing to meet Hillary yesterday who was within votes of being the next president as well so she's an
04:33amazing lady who's accomplished so much and came away I've met her a couple of times but got to spend
04:39even more time with her yesterday and I was so impressed uh with the uh lady that she is and
04:45uh how smart she is and you know the things her and President Clinton have been through and
04:51obviously the great leadership they provided for our country well obviously politics can be filled with
04:58plenty of name calling and mudslinging good news for you is you never have to deal with that with
05:03the Cowboys right well we certainly got our share of our own things that uh people uh uh have opinions
05:12about and we have so much respect for that and you know the bigger thing is we're you know the
05:17most
05:18important thing is they care and uh certainly people love our country uh and people care about our
05:24country and uh certainly we're blessed uh certainly not on that level but we're blessed that uh
05:30people love the Cowboys care and uh when things aren't uh going well or not going up to standard then
05:36certainly uh we're going to hear about it and we deserve to hear about it and we deserve to continue
05:41and not not deserve but we certainly uh want to take the challenge of continuing to try to make it
05:47better
05:48and uh we want to leave it in a better place we're certainly not at all pleased with uh you
05:54know
05:54the outcomes of our seasons uh uh for the last um for many years and uh we certainly want to
06:00get over
06:01that but uh that's what we're trying to do each and every week and uh whether it's a trade for
06:06Joey
06:06Porter and I know we'll probably touch on this or trying to improve our coaching staff uh uh we'll uh
06:13you know we're always looking for ways to be better well focusing on this season
06:17and I do we will get to petting in just a second but I I know logistically Thursday night football
06:23can be challenging for all NFL teams but on the flip side how useful do you think this mini buy
06:30has been for the team both in terms of mental and physical evaluations I think all the above I mean
06:38you know obviously we had a uh you know a different plan our plan was to go win the game
06:43go beat Tampa
06:44Bay and uh and you know be on this uh mini buy if you will uh coming off something positive
06:50but I think
06:51uh you know what we want to take from it is uh you know certainly the loss makes you even
06:56dig deeper
06:56and uh look even harder at uh where we need to be better and uh whether it's the players whether
07:03it's the
07:03coaches whether it's the organization uh you know Friday was a tough day uh uh but we also uh you
07:11know
07:11really peeled back the skin on the onion and said hey we're not good enough right now we are what
07:17we
07:17are we're two and three which is not a winning record uh anybody can do that math but uh uh
07:23you know
07:23we just said where can we going forward because we got a lot of football to play uh and you
07:29know we do
07:30have some injuries and we were coming off a tough run there but uh we're going to be getting people
07:35back and uh you know one of the decisions uh you know that we made that we had looked at
07:41when we
07:41first put our staff together was hiring a senior defensive assistant uh you know he's uh probably got
07:49more skins on the wall than Ken Dorsey but uh you know we have a similar uh position on the
07:54offensive side of the ball and think uh you know that Patton coach Patton can really be
07:59uh a positive for for shoddy for christian they both got great experience with him uh you know
08:06obviously christian coach for him uh uh in green bay so uh you know there's a lot of history there
08:13and i think he'll be a great fit uh for the coaching staff uh for the players in our organization
08:18what kind of what kind of voice do you want him to have one that's like just kind of constantly
08:23talking to christian parker lending advisement or is it a louder voice across the across the entire
08:29staff and team well i think the thing will evolve and uh just like ken dorsey's role evolves with
08:36shimko and shoddy and uh clayton uh i think uh mike Patton's role uh he'll get in here he's a
08:43seasoned
08:44coach who everybody's very comfortable with and uh you know he's not going to coach a position so i think
08:50that's very uh helpful in terms of looking at the defense holistically uh it's always good to get
08:56a new set of eyes in here uh at any point in time just uh uh you know if you
09:02will scout you and say
09:03hey here are the things you you might should consider and look at and the great thing is he does
09:08have a
09:08uh you know a great history with both uh uh coach schottenheimer and christian the the this morning
09:15jerry said that uh christian parker is going to be up in the booth now what kind of perspective do
09:20you
09:20think that he's going to get from there yeah i think uh you know this thing will evolve i'm uh
09:26you
09:26know whether christian's in the booth or in the sideline or Patton's in the booth or on the sideline
09:32that's something coach schottenheimer and them will work through as the week goes and uh
09:37certainly uh no bill they'll come up with what they feel gives us the best chance to have success
09:42and uh uh you know just feel great that we're adding a quality uh coach to this staff that i
09:49really
09:49think uh can help he's got a uh you know experience with some of our players uh in terms
09:55of rashon gary and kenny clark so uh they know him well they have much respect for him so uh
10:02just
10:02looking forward uh you know as i said to getting uh his input it'll be great to get joey porter
10:08on
10:08back out on the field on a regular basis and uh you know feel good about uh you know uh
10:14where we're
10:15headed uh we wouldn't be making these moves if we weren't optimistic about what we can ultimately
10:20be as a football team now one of the players that you just mentioned and rashon gary i'm going to
10:25use
10:25my words not yours here it feels like he has had a disappointing start to the season how much more
10:32is
10:32there to unlock from rashon gary oh i you know i think a lot of this is just players evolving
10:38i mean he's
10:39he's getting his hands around what's expected to him i think he's made some really good plays he's
10:45been a great leader for us and uh you know but at the same time just like uh i think
10:50everybody on
10:51this football team can turn on the tape and watch our first five games and say i can be better
10:56than
10:56that i don't uh doesn't matter whether it's offense defense special teams coaching staff uh
11:02organization uh we all can be better we wouldn't be sitting here at two and three so
11:08uh i'm sure rashon feels the same way and uh uh i really expect him to uh evolve uh in
11:16this system
11:16and uh i think we'll continue to be better we certainly though have to go out and uh you know
11:22the proof is going to be in uh what we put on the tape and uh until we go out
11:27there and uh you know
11:29have success and do the things we feel like we need to do then uh certainly there'll be question marks
11:35and
11:35as there should be you know we talked about this last season as well when you're talking about
11:40looking at the tape and hopefully what you're going to put on tape coming forward going forward
11:44how important is it to tighten up the missed tackles from the defense because a lot of people talked
11:49about schemes and communication and this and that but it also feels like some of these problems have
11:54stemmed from just some straight up missed tackles yeah i don't disagree with you i think that uh the
12:01fundamentals are a big part of this it's not only just uh it's not just missed tackles it's play
12:07style it's intensity it's identity it's making plays when you need to make plays i think all these
12:14things uh come into play uh when you talk about ultimately uh putting a product uh a defensive uh you
12:23know team on the field uh that can go out and help you win football games and obviously we hadn't
12:28done
12:29that up to now and i i agree with you we have to tackle better uh i think we have
12:34to uh our play
12:35style has to be better uh we have to make plays on the ball uh we have to get to
12:41the quarterback all
12:42these things i think play into us ultimately having a defense that can help us win football games
12:48steven this this one's a little bit of a selfish question but i'm just kind of curious on what you've
12:53thought of the play of a mere speed young cornerback kevin was really high on him coming out of camp
12:58and uh we just kind of went back and watched him so far this season he's looked pretty good to
13:02us
13:03yeah he's doing a really good job and i think his air is up uh he not only has done
13:09a great job for
13:10us on special teams he's uh stepped in uh when we needed him and i think done an admirable uh
13:17job
13:17playing corner for us and as a uh you know as a part of this football team that is gonna
13:22uh hopefully
13:24uh be uh people that we talk about when we talk about uh you know why this defense has improved
13:30from week five uh and going forward and uh certainly uh we're thrilled to have him on this
13:37team and glad that uh we were able to uh get him involved and uh that that he is a
13:43part of this like
13:43i said not only does he help us on defense but he's also uh really helping coach sorenson on special
13:49teams the um the last thing for you steven is everybody getting flu shots right now are we
13:55were we dealing with some sort of stomach bug we got to make sure that this doesn't spread around
13:58the locker room well no question i think it's that time of year and uh you know these young guys
14:04are
14:04resilient but uh at the same time timing can be bad and uh you know we certainly have had more
14:10than
14:10our you know i think we've had probably at least a dozen cases of guys and i don't know if
14:17any of it
14:18was related to being in rio or not but some of it has been the stomach virus that you get
14:23sometimes
14:23when you go south and uh uh and also we've had uh certainly cases of the flu bug not just
14:30among the
14:31players but among staff and uh hopefully that's going through and uh people are doing the right
14:36things to uh take care of their bodies well we appreciate the time as always thank you very much
