00:00This is an argument that never ended last year, and Zach Wilczuk, I remember him being a prominent leader on
00:09one side,
00:10and the overall question was, and Wilczuk was like, I think this is more the players than the coaching for
00:15how bad the defense is.
00:16Aiden, just put Bobby's chart, please, back up on the camera for the Tolos to look at in case they
00:21missed it last hour.
00:23But, right now, are we blaming more so the players coaching front office as we divvy up the defensive blame
00:33pie?
00:36Well, to me, if you're going to blame the players, you would have to start with the front office because
00:41they chose the players.
00:42So you don't believe that players are going to underperform?
00:45Oh, sure, they can underperform. No doubt.
00:49But if you're the Dodgers, you're going to blame the front office?
00:51If the Dodgers get swept?
00:53No, I would not. I mean, to me, that would be like, this is baseball, right?
00:57You lose a series. People lose a series. They have slumps.
01:00Go home, Dodgers.
01:01Shohei's hurt. There's no doubt about it. Something's wrong with Shohei.
01:06But I think if the whole team underperforms, all the players start underperforming,
01:11and these are relatively new guys because they did get a lot of new guys on defense,
01:17I would think that that is front office related.
01:21Okay. So divvy it up.
01:24I would say, yeah, it's going to be 40%, 50% front office, you know, 30% players,
01:34and then 20% coaching.
01:38Look, ultimately, at the end of the day, it's not the great answer,
01:44but like it is sort of both at the end, but it's more –
01:47the players aren't good enough.
01:48Both, there's three options.
01:49The players aren't good enough.
01:50They're not.
01:51And we talked about one of the reasons why I still picked them to go like 9-8 this offseason
01:58was because I was like, you can't, especially with the limited resources they have,
02:03change 26 players that you needed to change from last year, or 20, whatever it is.
02:08You honestly could have probably just said, if you have no contractual obligation,
02:12how many of these guys do you want to just get rid of?
02:15And I think Dallas comes back with like five defenders, like period, with their entire depth.
02:21There's a lot of guys they – I don't think Duran Bland's back if they're presented that scenario.
02:26But there is also the responsibility of you should still get more out of it than you are.
02:34Yeah.
02:35And that ultimately – because all we wanted was be a little bit better.
02:40So ultimately, at the end of the day, the players are the players,
02:43and they're not good enough in a lot of respects,
02:47but you were the one who – like that coaching staff who pitched,
02:50they can handle this, we can do this, and we can be better.
02:53You're not even better.
02:55The fact that you're not better has to sit on the coaching staff for now.
02:59I'm going to go – let me make sure my math is right before I say this
03:03and embarrass my American University education.
03:07I'm going to go front office 30, players 35, coaching 35.
03:14That's 100.
03:15I'm going to get – I'm going to have a little bit less blame for the front office
03:22because I do believe that Jerry and Steven gave Brian Schottenheimer
03:27and Christian Parker basically what they wanted.
03:29Now, they didn't go out and get Max Crosby, okay?
03:32But we've made a move for Joey Porter.
03:34And they tried on Crosby.
03:35Yeah, they tried on Crosby.
03:36Now, the biggest blame for the front office is like the town evaluation of Rashawn Gary.
03:43We'll see about Jalen Thompson who's been banged up, Vaughn Miller,
03:48humongous W so far for Brian Broaddus, and the other personnel.
03:53Like, whoever judged, we – again, I'm going to keep going back to this.
03:59When the Rashawn Gary thing happened, we were like,
04:03would you give up for him?
04:05And then we kind of got excited about it because it was fresh blood.
04:09And then when you finally spent on Jalen Thompson, we're like,
04:13we're excited because you spent.
04:17P.J. Locke was a backup.
04:19Kobe Durant, yeah, they got rid of him out of L.A.
04:23because they were getting two new high-priced corners,
04:25but they were still willing to go ahead and let Kobe Durant go.
04:28And he's played well when he's been healthy.
04:30When he's been healthy, Durant has not played poorly.
04:33Yeah.
04:34And then trusting too much of Nazaraku and saying we don't need more pass rush
04:39up front, our guys are going to get it done, letting Clowney go.
04:42Houston still can't get off the bench.
04:44That's maddening off from a front office and coaching standpoint.
04:47But I'll blame 35% players because it is still – you can still play hard,
04:53but there's still the gutless, soft efforts that we've seen over the course
04:58of the past six years, way too often around here,
05:00outside of some Dan Quinn highlights.
05:03So I'll go 35, 35, and then 30 for the front office.
05:08Yeah, and I mean, look, he put his –
05:12Christian Parker put his neck on the line for a lot of different things.
05:16He chose Kenny Clark over Oso Digizua.
05:19Oso Digizua, by the way, leading the San Francisco 49ers,
05:21the number one team in the country, like in the country.
05:25Number one in the country, wow.
05:26Yeah, number one team in the NFL.
05:28DCS.
05:29Leading them in quarterback hits so far on that defensive side of the ball.
05:32With Matty Rufloos serving as senior defensive assistant there too,
05:35by the way.
05:36Yeah.
05:37By the way, I just went and looked up Oso's because I wanted to make myself
05:39more miserable over the football weekend.
05:43His PFF, what do you think it is?
05:4671.
05:4875.
05:4947.8.
05:50Oh, wow.
05:50That means he's a 90.
05:51That means he's playing really, really well.
05:5347.8.
05:55108th out of 133 defensive linemen.
05:58That means he's playing well if PFF thinks of him that way.
06:01Defensive tackle is the worst position they grade.
06:03They've done it with Quinnen a couple times this year where it's like
06:05when Quinnen has played well, they grade him like a 30.
06:09He picked Oso over Kenny Clark.
06:12He said, Jadavion Clowney, you who were the best defensive player for them
06:15last year, you don't fit.
06:17I'm all sad.
06:18And he actively chose Rashaun Gary over him.
06:20Those are misses on Parker.
06:22The front office made it, but they did it with, this is what you want,
06:25this is what you get.
06:26But that is a – and this – I'm not trying to insult Jadavion.
06:30I wanted Jadavion back.
06:31I know you did as well.
06:32But just think of the sentence you just said, that Jadavion Clowney was the best player
06:39arguably on your defense last year.
06:41An old, aging, mercenary.
06:45Run stopper.
06:46That is just going from team to team was arguably your best defender.
06:51Damn.
06:51That's how bad.
06:53That's how bad it has been with Aiden showing some of these numbers,
06:57comparing Mike Nolan, Eberflus, and Christian Parker,
07:01and those bad categories that are red.
07:03Christian Parker leading the way with seven of them.
07:06Eberflus with five.
07:08Is it Eberflus with five?
07:09Yeah, and he's tied.
07:09And Nolan and him are tied on one of them.
07:11But three for Nolan, five for Eberflus.
