00:00Shander's Beauty was bred in 2004 by Harkness Roses in the UK, and it is proven to be quite
00:08a modern classic. It is headed down to USDA Zone 5, making it a reliable choice even in colder
00:15climates. This rose offers a rich, layered fragrance. I rate it 8.5 out of 10. The rose
00:22starts out with this soft peach and apricot note that leads the nose, and it is followed
00:29by a deeper, more potent damask finish that beautifully lingers. So you get this kind of
00:34fruity sweetness at the front end, and then this beautiful damask, very powerful damask that comes
00:41after. Honestly, I really love this one on fragrance. But a lot of people can rate this rose wrong,
00:48because if you pick the bloom too early, it might only give you 6 out of 10 on fragrance.
00:54So this one requires a little bit of patience. Not a lot, but you really want that bloom to open
01:01fully before you get that very powerful scent. It is kind of like Princess Chalene de Monaco. You also
01:07have to be a little bit patient for that bloom to open fully. But when you're patient with both of
01:13these, holy moly, you get a beautiful scent. I really promise you, you do. The blooms themselves
01:20open up with a more delicate light pink center, that gradually fades towards a more creamy white.
01:27And as it matures, it takes on an almost skin-toned hue that is very subtle and warm. At night,
01:36the petals can almost seem like they have this translucent glow, giving the flower an almost
01:41ethereal quality. And honestly guys, when you see this one right before the sun goes down,
01:47it is so beautiful. It really is. I sometimes wash this rose from my kitchen window, and I love
01:55watching it as the light kind of dims down. In terms of health, it performs really admirably.
02:02It can develop some minor black spot issues, but it is typically restricted to the lower leaves,
02:08and it never affects the plant's overall wicker. And honestly, now I say black spot, a lot of alarm
02:17bells will go off you guys. But when I talk black spot on this plant, it is so little that
02:22if you're
02:22willing to pick off one or two leaves in a season, in an entire season, you can keep this one
02:28black spot
02:29free. It gets very little black spot. But it does get a bit on the lower leaf, very, very little.
02:35Like,
02:35if you're willing to remove one or two of the lower leaves in a season, this will be black spot
02:40free.
02:41The foliage itself is very clean and glossy, a bit darker than most roses, but it really
02:47makes the plant look healthy throughout the season. And another thing I really will touch on a bit is
02:55this rose. If you're planning to put this rose into a rose bed, then I will mention that the color
03:02tone on this pink rose is a bit more warm pink than most roses. So don't make the mistake,
03:08like I have done sometimes, of placing it too much up against a colder pink, like something that is a
03:15bit more lavender pink, because that can sometimes make the rose seem a little bit out of place.
03:20This rose does really well placed up against something like Princess Chalene de Monaco and
03:25something like Bosco Bell, for example. They have a bit more of this warm glow to them, like Shannon's
03:31Beauty has. The rose itself grows to about 80 centimeters tall and 50 centimeters wide. It has a
03:38really neat upright shape that fits well into most borders and mixed flower beds. And honestly,
03:45this is such a practical size that you can fit in almost anywhere. I really like the shape and
03:51growth habit of this one. The flowers themselves stand up really well to rain. They don't ball up,
03:59but they can, if the rain is very heavy and very persistent, it can get some brown spots on the
04:05outer
04:05petals. Still, in my opinion, this is not enough for me to not grow it, because you can just pull
04:12off
04:12those lower leaves if you want. And as long as it's just those taking the damage, then I don't really
04:18mind that much. But if you have weeks and weeks of rain, it can get some small brown spots on
04:25the outer
04:25petals. And this rose is called a lot of names. It is called Modern Cork and it is called Sweet
04:32Love.
04:34So, Shannon's Beauty has quite many names. And like we say in Danish, we often tend to say that beloved
04:40child has many names. And the unwanted child has none. But this rose is definitely a beloved one.
04:48As you can probably guess already now, this rose is getting a gold medal from me. But before we go
04:56to
04:56the gold medal, I just want to go over the score here. I give Shannon's Beauty 8 on health. I
05:03give it
05:048.5 out of 10 for that powerful peach and the mask fragrance. I give it 8 on form for
05:10that wonderful
05:1280 x 50 cm growth. You can fit anywhere. And I give the flower a 9 out of 10. I
05:20wanted to give it 10
05:22out of 10, but I'm subtracting a bit for those brown dots that can happen at the outer areas. But
05:27really,
05:28this rose has such an amazing flower. I really love the way it changes color as it unfolds. I like
05:37honestly, I like the T-hybrid shape on this one. It has such a perfect T-hybrid shape. One of
05:43the most
05:43perfect T-hybrid shaped roses you can get with this more pointy board that kind of unfolds.
05:50Honestly, I love the flower. I love the color change. I love everything about it. And for storytelling,
05:56of course, it is an 8 out of 10. So many colors in this rose. I really like it. So
06:02that leaves us at
06:0541.5 out of 50. And as I said, this one is getting a gold medal. If you had to
06:12grow one Harkness Rose,
06:13I really think this one is a very, very strong contender. It is one of his all-time best roses.
06:21And if you haven't tried this rose yet, maybe go out and buy it and try it in your garden
06:26and you'll
06:27have a wonderful T-hybrid in the pink color. Honestly, if you're just starting your rose garden,
06:34you can often find this rose so incredibly cheap that it is honestly a steal. And it will do so
06:41much
06:41better than so many other pink roses for you. Sometimes people think if they're spending like
06:4835 dollars or 35 pounds that that rose will do better. But honestly, this one is amazing. It is
06:56an amazing rose. Gold medal, guys, and take care out there.
