00:00Today we'll be doing a little review of Tantau roses. Now I have about I think
00:08it was 28 roses from a garden here that are all from Tantau and I'm going to
00:15review for you. So let's have a look at what we got going on over here on the
00:23tier list. The first one is a cappella. Now a cappella is quite an interesting rose.
00:33It is interesting for two reasons. The first reason is that it has this kind of
00:41pink magenta color but on the back side of the leaf it has a more white silver color. So it
00:48creates
00:48this color dynamic where you have the outside of the leaf being or the outside of the petal being
00:55a different color than the inside and this creates this really unique effect that combined with the
01:02fact it is very fragrant one of the most frequent Tantau roses there is. A bit tall like it's not
01:11something you use in the front of the border a bit more I would say in the middle to the
01:16back
01:16but the fragrance alone the unique look that is decently healthy. The only problem I've had with
01:26it is if you place it too close to something else it can sometimes act weird and not give you
01:32a lot of
01:32blooms but all in all it's a really good Tantau rose and I'm going to put it into the S
01:38tier
01:39because of the fragrance. I would say the fragrance is around 8 out of 10 on a cappella.
01:45The next one this is a really good one this is actually my favorite Tantau rose
01:52it is Goethe also called pure poetry if you don't know a pure poetry or Goethe it is one of
02:00the most
02:01fragrant roses in the world in my opinion it's one of the only few roses I've given a 10 out
02:07of 10
02:08because it's simply so fragrant a strong old rose fragrance on it it creates these huge blooms when
02:18it flushes the first time it creates these huge singular blooms and then when the second flush comes
02:26it kind of tries to make clusters of blooms it kind of tries to make clusters of blooms so it
02:30has this grandiflora trait
02:36but when you think about how big the blooms get that is 10 out of 10 on fragrance and it
02:42has these
02:43really huge nearly purple blooms and it's very healthy too it gets about 80 to 100 centimeters but it's really
02:54one of the best Tantau roses if not the best Tantau rose there is so we'll put pure poetry or
03:01Goethe up
03:01here in S tier but really it should probably be S plus tier
03:09the next one we'll take is hence that rose stock this rose doesn't have a lot of fragrance but it's
03:16a
03:16very special rose so it's very low so you can grow it in front of a border but what makes
03:23it really
03:23special is the color variation on it it has the most beautiful apricot yellow color variation you can
03:32imagine on a rose and it can get completely covered in blooms it's a really good repeat flower and
03:40when you see it make that blanket of um different color blooms it's it's an amazing rose really one
03:48of the best roses there is from Tantau so i'll have to put this one into S plus also but
03:55i'm going to show
03:56you why it ranks in S plus or S here on the list and we'll just go over to a
04:06search engine here and i'll show it to you
04:16yeah as you can see it gets these um really beautiful color variations the pictures don't even do
04:24justices like if you can imagine thousands of uh maybe not thousands but at least 20 or 30 of these
04:34blooms going off at the same time in different color variations um you can imagine how beautiful it looks
04:41and it is a really beautiful uh rose with a lot of color variation in it so one of the
04:48best from Tantau
04:49in my opinion not a lot of fragrance though only like three to four on fragrance so we'll go over
04:56here
04:56and we'll see what the next one is the next one is grafen von hardenberg it is a really good
05:07roast too
05:08it's not as fragrant as uh pure poetry but it it is a really good low cupped rose that gets
05:17really dark red
05:18in some countries it's also called black caviar i believe um but the fragrance and um the fact
05:27it has these really dark red rose blooms i would say put it this pushes also into the S tier
05:37i would say
05:40then you have modern art
05:43modern art modern art is a really tough one for me to place because i absolutely adore this rose i
05:49don't hear a lot of people talk about this rose but let me tell it to you right now this
05:55rose is
05:56a flower machine it outperforms some of my most heavy flowers um in my garden something like olivia child
06:04and uh sorry not only olivia austin and julia child and princess anne and it just makes massive clusters
06:14of flowers constantly every time i'm mowing my lawn i see huge clusters of flower on this thing and it's
06:21just so healthy you wouldn't believe it's it is like um if you took olivia austin and looked made
06:29they look any more uh old-fashioned in the blooms so it's an instant st for me also not a
06:37lot of
06:37fragrance but a really huge flower power machine and i'll just show it to you here again and we'll go
06:46over to the search engine and like i said i don't hear a lot of people talk about this rose
06:53and i think
06:53that's a shame because it's a really amazing rose you can see here it has kind of like a more
06:59reddish
07:00pink in the middle and then it fades out and in our petals but i'm not kidding you when i
07:07say this
07:08is um out of 400 roses this is easily um in top five of the most proliferous so and i
07:17have a lot of roses
07:18in my garden um let's go back to the tier list here again next one is um yeah i'll probably
07:28i'll do it
07:29from the other side now i think i'll take something that i won't place highly something like a vacuum or
07:36it's a beautiful yellow rose but it's not really fragrant and it's just a pretty yellow rose and it
07:44it is okay healthy and does what it's supposed to it's not really something special i'll place it
07:51into b tier then you have something like artemis artemis and another one um i'll put up here wedding
08:01piano both of these look very similar they have this romantic um cupped shape nearly a ball they don't
08:11have a lot of fragrance but they're both um healthy i think um petal wise the artemis is a bit
08:19more heavy
08:19petal and a bit more shallow cupped but they look really similar and then you have the red variant like
08:27piano with this wedding piano and piano on the white and red version these three and also some of the
08:35new
08:35uh piano virons uh he has made are really similar not really fragrant three to four on fragrance but
08:41they bloom a lot and they also get quite tall i would say but they bloom a lot and they
08:47give you this
08:48romantic look um but not fragrant as i said before um yeah the next one we have here is a
08:59baccarol
09:00the baccarol is um i would say a really good red rose flower if you want a single stem cut
09:08flower
09:09the fragrance on it is probably like a five out of ten it's not the most fragrant it won't be
09:15like
09:16a grafen von hardenberg or goethe or something like that but it will provide you with these um most
09:23wonderful cut flowers red cut flowers i'll just show it to you here and it's also one of the most
09:30popular cut flower varieties in the world yeah you can probably see here why it's so like for cut
09:42flowers it's a really beautiful cut flower so yeah i have it in your garden for cut flower to take
09:50inside
09:50in a way so it will be amazing for that um there's also one that looks quite like it that's
09:57called black
09:58magic um black magic um black magic is um not ascended um you can also get black magic from tento
10:06a black magic is not as centered and sometimes you can be lucky at least in my climate and then
10:15my the black magic is sometimes a bit more healthy than baccarol but i think maybe sometimes it's just
10:21down to circumstance but they look really similar and black magic is maybe a tiny bit darker but
10:28they're really close the next one i'll rate here is heidi klum heidi klum is also an eight tier for
10:37me
10:37it's a really low rose around 40 30 40 centimeters you can place in front of a border like all
10:46the way in
10:46front because it's a really small rose nearly a dwarf variety um it has a bit of scent like a
10:53six out of
10:54ten and it has this kind of bleached out magenta um a violet or some would probably say um yeah
11:04it's a
11:04good small compact rose so when you need something that you have a spot where you can't place something
11:11gets too big you want something that's really small the next one we'll take here i think is camelot
11:20camelot is a climbing rose but it's a really special climbing rose because it gets these uh unique
11:26markings on the flower now it's not the strongest scented flower probably about a five or six out of
11:34ten but it has this really unique uh coloring effect on the petals i'll just show you here and go
11:43to
11:50yeah as you can probably see here it gets these markings on the petals and the flower petals and
11:56that was that's what makes it special are these markings these stripes nearly so yeah on to the next
12:07one here um the next one i'll do is uh shivendale now shivendale is um like a lot of the
12:16other ones we
12:17have placed into the b tier here it's a really healthy plant it's a flower machine it's um not a
12:25lot of
12:25scent like four out of ten a bit of tea fragrance really um but it has these most beautiful um
12:33big
12:34old-fashioned blooms um and it doesn't get that large it gets around uh 50 centimeters or something
12:43like that sort of quite compact of a shape and it's also a really healthy rose i had mine for
12:49about nine
12:50years um and i have no complaints about it it's just not a scented rose but it's amazing rose in
12:56every
12:57other way um so yeah next one i'll do is a marianne marianne is uh very close to chippendale for
13:08me
13:09it has a bit more color variation but it has the same strength of chippendale being a
13:15really compact crop or really low growing rose with a lot of flowers and a lot of um beautiful blooms
13:26but it has a bit more color aeration it varies more than chippendale in the color variation on it
13:34so yeah i'll just go and show you here marianne
13:46as you can see here there's a lot of different colors going on in marianne
13:52and if you can imagine a lot of these flowers in a cluster together
13:57it provides a really beautiful look we can also do a chip and dale
14:05yeah you can see chip and dale is more the same color but still really beautiful
14:12so and they look good in parts also and we'll go to the next one here um
14:21the next one is um theodore fontaine theodore fontaine is an amazing rose
14:28i love it for the same reason i love hans dot rostock it is simply a explosion of color but
14:35what
14:36makes theodore fontaine so unique is uh that the color variation is more between orange and these uh
14:44uh more um i would say nearly sunshine red orange like a sunshine color um it makes like the most
14:58beautiful color variations just like hence that road stock but hence the growth stock is more between
15:03uh a yellow and the more creamy colors where theater fontaine is more over and uh more um orange rosy
15:13colors so it's really a beautiful rose very healthy and if you like handstock rose dog you will also like
15:19the theater fontaine i think i'll just go show you here
15:35and i'll find a picture that captures the color you can see the color here is really beautiful uh from
15:43orange to this more
15:49yeah it's really pretty in reality a lot of times these pictures don't do it justice because
15:55they just show it as orange and it has so much color going on it often blooms a bit later
16:02than
16:03handstock rose dog but it's a really good rose
16:08and let's see the next one the next one here is pacific blue pacific blue is probably
16:16the best more lavender colored more these gray grayish wild colors it's probably the best variety
16:25across any breeder because you have something like love song love song makes beautiful blooms and you also
16:32have something like neptune i believe it's called also beautiful blooms and they're also neptune is
16:39very healthy love song not as healthy but if you compare those to pacific blue and they all have
16:45about the same color what makes pacific blue so unique is pacific blue also has a really strong scent
16:51like eight out of ten scent so it's a really good um flower probably the best if you're into that
16:59kind
16:59of color and i'll show it over here again
17:10yeah you can see the color here i'm trying to describe but if you like this type of color in
17:16your rose
17:17i would say pacific blue is the best color of it is really more faded out lavender
17:26some don't like this color because they think it's a bit too um sickly looking too bluish looking
17:33but um you can use it to offset something that's really more uh deep purple or something like that
17:43and it'll work beautifully if you create that contrast and let's go down here and see at our tier list
17:51again
17:51um yeah the next one i'll do is ashley ashley um it's probably one of the tenter roses uh that
18:01makes
18:01the biggest bloom and that's what makes it really unique but it doesn't have a much scent i think it's
18:09like a four out of ten for me on scent but the big blooms and the way the blooms look
18:14are is quite unique so
18:16if you like something from austin like princess alexander of kent you like these really big blooms
18:22you'll probably like ashley also but um unlike a pa okay um princess alexander of kent
18:31this doesn't have much fragrance this is a foreign fragrance where princess alexander of kent is probably
18:36like a seven seven and a half on fragrance but yeah still there's a really good rose and i'll show
18:43you
18:43here how big the blooms can get yeah as you can see here the blooms can get absolutely massive on
18:55it um
18:57you can get quite some big blooms and these they're kind of wrinkled also so yeah but it gets quite
19:05big
19:08blooms we'll go back to our tier list here again um the next one is um i believe this is
19:16serious we have
19:18here yes serious rose a serious rose is um a very good pot rose and it's also a really good
19:28flowering
19:29rose it doesn't have a lot of scent but it has a really beautiful color play between
19:35these more white colors and these more soft baby pink colors so it has a really beautiful color play
19:43it's a lovely shrub and it's a prolific bloomer it's a really good rose but it's in my opinion not
19:52something out of the ordinary and i'll go ahead and place um i thought i had
20:04yes this is aspirin aspirin here is also about the same as serious the thing with aspirin is just it
20:12gets a bit bigger and the blooms are more white but it's also in the same way a prolific bloomer
20:18that
20:19makes us drop next one here is nostalgia um i've never really liked this rose i wanted to like it
20:29because it's an unique bloom pattern but even though i've had mine for close to nine years now it has
20:38never really been the most healthy rose or the most prolific bloomer and it doesn't have a lot of
20:43scent so i actually think i'll place this into the cta it has an unique look and that's what catches
20:50your
20:50eye um but i believe there are better varieties that had this two color look to it um particularly
20:57if you look at some of the french roses so i'll place it down here in c tier
21:06next one is a polar stern polar stern is a really pretty white rose but
21:13it's in my opinion not that prolific of bloomer and the fragrance looks like a four out of ten you
21:20can get some tea notes and some tobacco and the sandalwood notes it's not really a strong fragrance
21:27it has some but it's a beautiful flower when it makes a flower it just doesn't do a lot of
21:33it
21:33in my opinion so i'll place that down there and we'll take the next one here i think we'll do
21:41candlelight
21:43candlelight is kind of the same as a vacuum war both really good yellow roses i know austin
21:51oh sorry tantal reds this higher than a vacuum war but on sand but i can't really smell much
21:59of a difference on the strength of sand for me they're both
22:04at most a five if not more like a four so but it has a really pretty yellow color effect
22:14and it really
22:15catches your eye next one is ascot ascot is very much like just a different color again of a piano
22:25it
22:26has a a little bit different bloom shape a little more loose bloom shape but it's kind of the same
22:34of
22:35you know of these uh piano roses and artemis rose and ascot they're very close together in fragrance and
22:43look they don't have a lot of fragrance they bloom a lot but i i think ascot doe is the
22:49weaker bloomer of
22:51the piano roses tend to bloom more than ascot and also artemis so next one is rosario rosario is a
23:02really good repeat bloom and it just gets absolutely covered in blooms when it blooms
23:08so i'm going to go ahead and place this around serious because serious can also get really
23:18um good repeat bloom and also um aspirin
23:24and the next one we'll do is uh duft wolke a fragrant cloud as is also known this is a
23:32really good
23:33rose and fragrance it's one of the most strongly scented fragrant roses in the world for good reason
23:39it's not um the most cold hardly and it can sometimes also be a bit weaker on health
23:47but it's a really amazing rose just to have for the fragrance and it's also one of the few more
23:52orange
23:53red roses you'll find but worth getting if you're a fragrant collector like i am and just want the
24:01fragrance but you have to be a bit more careful with it when it comes to the cold and the
24:08other one
24:08here is inca rose and inca roses again it should be placed here next to candlelight and air vagamoor
24:17and all these they're very similar but i'm going to place it down here because i'm running out of space
24:23but realistically it does about the same it's like a four out of ten on sand makes beautiful blooms a
24:32bit
24:32more double what is a bit more tea hybrid candlelight but yeah and the next one here is a tropicana
24:42tropicana is actually a really good bloom from tantau it has this fruity exotic scent and a really
24:52uh good peachy kind of fleshy color and um yeah i like it sometimes it can be a bit weaker
25:01on health
25:02um
25:05yeah i'm actually in doubt if i should place it up here i actually think i'll place it an ato
25:10but it's a really good fragrant rose but i think um health problems sometimes can deduct a few points on
25:17it um but it's a really good rose i'll just show it to you here
25:30yeah as you can see it's these um more exotic colors and they can look really beautiful
25:37and it also smells good um not the strongest it's like probably on most days it's like a seven
25:47on its bad days like a six but it has a really pleasant unique scent so and we'll go over
25:55here
25:55and take the last one the last one is a ashram and um ashram is not a rose that have
26:02set me a
26:04whole lot it's a beautiful bloom it's more orangey and not a lot of fragrance like a four at max
26:13it's
26:13kind of falls into the same category as many of these are there up here beautiful blooms decently
26:20healthy but um nothing special really so
26:27um yeah and that was that um we have a tier list now there are some roses um i haven't
26:37um been able
26:38to rate yet because they're not old enough in my garden something like cafe facade which i believe
26:44will probably go up here around the s tier um because it's getting more fragrant and um i also have
26:52something like oceana which will probably also rank highly for me and also something like um divina which
26:59i also think rank quite high um but there's a lot of good roses from tantau if i had to
27:09say
27:10what rose i would absolutely recommend you getting from tantau it will have to be a dark poetry
27:17or pure poetry or pure poetry sorry goethe and if i had to recommend two it would probably hence that
27:24rose dog and pure poetry those are really amazing roses in every way and but you can't go wrong with
27:35any of these up here on s tier um they're all amazing and uh if you want a bit of
27:41cut flower
27:42a baccarola is good for that if you need a smaller flower had a glum if you want a more
27:47special looking
27:48climate camelot and if you want a bit of tropical scent tropicana and if you just want to plaster your
27:56garden in blooms a modern art is a really good rose to do that so and yeah that's not much
28:06to say
28:06um acapella a really fragrant good rose to use in the middle of a bed you can also sometimes use
28:13it to
28:13offset the color of all the roses because it has this um color on the back petal you can use
28:21to offset
28:21other colors with but yeah i think that's about it uh from tantau roses i'll probably make another list
28:30one i have um most of the roses right now i have about 40 tantau roses but i can't really
28:39judge all of them yet because some of them are still too young um if i had to mention one
28:47general
28:49thing about tantau they always produce really healthy roses you don't see a lot of black spot
28:56um they grow really well um stand up to the weather real well um if i have to say one
29:04negative thing
29:04about tantau um it is often the fragrance uh you'll notice here a lot of these uh plants over here
29:13on
29:14the tier list i place quite in the middle and that's because not a lot of them are really special
29:21on
29:22fragrance and a lot of them are kind of similar just a little bit different coloring and um that is
29:29probably one of my um main problems with tantau roses is they're really healthy they bloom a lot
29:38um but they often like that what the french calls je ne sais quoi a certain something and um the
29:45certain
29:45something like a fragrance or like um a unique uh special thing about them and um but i can't really
29:57complain about tantau roses you get amazing health you get really floriferous you don't really see a lot
30:03of diseases on them and when they make stellar roses they can make absolutely gorgeous fragrant roses and
30:12pure poetry good is a good example of that and black carrier is also a really good grafen von heidenberg
30:20but yeah with tantau you have to be a bit more selective but when they make a good rose they
30:27make a
30:27rose a few people can compete with and pure poetry is a really good example of that so if you
30:35want healthy
30:36roses and roses and roses that are really flower machines and they're really good for health then i
30:43can totally recommend getting tantau roses but if you're more into fragrance then you have to select a
30:50bit more with a heavy hand when it comes to tantau so yeah i hope you like this review and
