00:00Ralph Vacchiano, remember him, Fox Sports, had a column up about the Browns quarterback situation.
00:08And he mentioned a few scouts.
00:10They're all anonymous.
00:11No one ever puts their name on it.
00:13But the scouts assessment of the Browns quarterback situation, and this is a direct quote from an unnamed scout.
00:20So take that for what it is.
00:22Quote, both are PR nightmares by the way they handle the media and the fans by what they say.
00:27The scout told Ralph when he asked about the Watson-Sanders dynamic, humility is a tough lesson to learn at
00:34this stage of their lives.
00:37That last one really actually did just genuinely annoy me because Deshaun is 30.
00:42That's still pretty young.
00:43I know in life in general, we look at it that way.
00:49But in football sense, you've got to be, I guess, a fully formed human being by 30.
00:54He's still got time to learn humility.
00:56I haven't given up on him as a person yet.
00:58The Shador thing, it's like he's 24.
01:00The Shador thing is wild to me.
01:02Because PR disasters and then says how he's handled himself with the media.
01:06When has Shador pissed off people with how he's handled himself in the media?
01:10If anything, I've seen Shador in the past month or so go out of his way to apologize for things
01:14that people thought were benign that happened in press conferences.
01:18Yeah, I think this is another case of Shador taking a beating for his fan base.
01:23I think so, too.
01:24I think that's a – I agree with that.
01:26Do I think Shador could call off his fan base at any points he wants?
01:30Yeah, but in the same point, we have agitators out there like Lima.
01:35I don't think he's running from the fact that he agitates the Sanders fan base.
01:40There's an angle to that.
01:41The man's trying to get some ratings from it.
01:42Good luck to him, but like we could also have agitators stop trying to agitate the Sanders fan base and
01:49make it just about football.
01:50Yeah, all right.
01:51So let's ask you this way.
01:52Let's do it this way.
01:53If Shador is not on the team next year, will it have more to do with the idea that they
01:57think it's a PR disaster or whatever accompanies that or will it just be strictly because of the play?
02:02I think it's going to be because they look at the PR thing and say the NFL cliche, which is
02:08you want a quiet backup, not a loud backup.
02:10And I think that becomes the resounding thought in a lot of ways.
02:13And I feel like if you draft a quarterback in the first round, the prevailing thought is you want to
02:20give that quarterback the stardom.
02:21You want to give that quarterback all the attention.
02:23You want to give that quarterback everything that comes with it and anything else that's just not worth it.
02:27But I do think that's where the distinction matters to me personally.
02:32Listen, we don't see Shador behind closed doors.
02:35So if Shador is falling asleep in meetings, all right, that's a loud backup.
02:39If Shador isn't doing the work that they want him to do, which some scouts still cling on to from
02:45the draft process two years ago, if he's not doing that, all right, that's a loud backup, right?
02:50I get that.
02:51If this is his fan base is loud, I feel like that's something you can work with Shador directly on
02:57to go ahead and try and minimize going into year three.
02:59And I think that's what bugs me is that I don't think that nuance is being presented from the nationalite
03:04or by this nameless scout.
03:05I mean, it just feels like a crappy way to kind of suggest that this is how this all ends
03:10for Shador, you know, where it's like he himself feels like, at least, I mean, I feel for him that
03:14he's done everything he possibly can from getting ahead of it, making sure he doesn't try to inflame any comments
03:21or anything like that.
03:22And then he's just going to be the result of being a mega superstar.
03:25Well, but I think, so I do think like where this happens matters.
03:30There were a fair amount of people when Shador was drafted by the Browns that were like, man, he had
03:34a chance to succeed anywhere but there because it's the Browns.
03:38And then there is a sideshow element to what the Browns do, whether it's the way people perceive the ownership
03:44group and Jimmy's impetuousness or the fact that they have gone from the Baker thing to the Deshaun thing and
03:51that they have had two winning seasons in six years.
03:54They fired the guy that everybody thought was the guy that quieted the storm in Cleveland and Kevin Stefanski, like
03:59whatever it is, I understand that.
04:03But like, I think that's, I think there will be a team next year, assuming the negative happens this year
04:09with Shador, that is a naturally quiet team that looks at Shador and says, oh, we actually like the football
04:15stuff and we're not as worried about the noise.
04:17Cause I actually think a team like Baltimore wanted to draft them two years ago and I think the noise
04:24would have been quieted in Baltimore.
04:25For some reason, we can't do that in Cleveland.
04:27I think it's interesting.
04:29I just like the idea, or at least I'm intrigued by the idea that, you know, usually it's like the
04:33calm before the storm.
04:35If we kind of like reverse that, it's like the storm.
04:37And then the result of that is we want the calm, you know, like after you have all of these
04:41chaotic elements or all sorts of, whether it's his reasoning or not, but everything that comes with Deshaun.
04:46And then also Shador, if the Browns response to that next year is we just have the quietest team in
04:51NFL history.
04:52Yeah.
04:52I think some of the, the orange dot decisions with guys like Spencer Fano and Jared Verse, I think some
04:59of that has been in response to the noise of, and it's not even like the Baker years.
05:05It's the fallout of the first couple of years of Deshaun where you had the Perry on Winfrey's, you had
05:10guys, Kareem Hunt, all sorts of people, even Mike Hall Jr.
05:13and I know Mike, Mike's still there, but like, there was a lot of noise there.
05:17So I think they've already started to try and quiet down this team.
05:19They just can't run from the noise of the quarterback spot.
05:22I think we've already seen them do this once though, right?
05:25Like, I think part of, listen, we know the football reasons why they were going from Baker to Deshaun.
05:31I think if you just listen to the press conferences of Deshaun, when he wasn't talking about 20 plus sexual,
05:37uh, sexual assault allegations, all the cliche things that really annoy us right now.
05:42And that made it so eye popping when he just took a torch to the fan base two Saturdays ago,
05:47uh, all the cliche stuff.
05:49They love that.
05:50They ate that up.
05:51I think the one way in which Kevin Stefanski and Deshaun Watson were simpatico was their boring press conferences.
05:58I do think there was some deliberateness from the Browns on, we need to get quieter at the quarterback position.
06:04And that was one of the reasons why they liked Deshaun beyond the ability to do what he did in
06:08Houston.
06:08I know, but right now you'd make an argument that they have one of the loudest quarterback rooms you could
06:12have in the NFL.
06:13Oh yeah, it's never been louder.
06:14And so like, I think the, I think the reflective response from that a year from now is going to
06:18be, we have to, we're going to, we're going to simmer this thing down.
06:21And again, so much of this is out of their control though.
06:23If you think about it, if they have a number one overall pick and they think Arch Manning is the
06:28guy, they don't care that he's a Manning and the noise that comes with that.
06:31They're going to be like, we'll bring that on.
06:33We're going to, we're going to entertain that.
06:34That's part of that.
06:35That's good noise.
06:36Yeah.
06:37But, but again, it still is noise though.
06:38Like the Manning family is a whole thing in and of itself.
06:41And so like, there's, there's, there's only so much that they can control out of this.
06:45There's only so much that I guess they'll be able to really nail down by the time we get to
06:49who the next quarterback is anyway.
06:50It's interesting.
06:51Cause I, I don't, I like, I don't know Dante more from Arch Manning to Jaden Maiava's press conferences to
06:58CJ Carr's press conferences.
07:01And none of these guys appear to be like a Caleb Williams where Caleb's dad was doing work behind the
07:07scenes.
07:07He did a lot of work behind the scenes.
07:09Caleb himself was doing a lot of work to make people uncomfortable about going to Chicago.
07:13So I, I, there's not somebody that I can draw a correlate and be like, that's a, that's a Caleb
07:17Williams.
07:17That's a Baker Mayfield.
07:18That's a Shadour, right?
07:20I think it will be really interesting though.
07:22The noise element, if we get to next April and as you, cause I think it matters most if you've
07:28got the number one pick.
07:29Cause then that's when you start to split the hairs of, well, we like this guy better in this way.
07:35And this guy better in this way.
07:36Like if you do have a three to four quarterback draft and it is a close draft, I can't help,
07:42but wonder if noise is going to drive that.
07:44And that's precisely the thing I don't want them thinking about in April.
07:49I want them thinking about who, who actually does have the best chance to be the best quarterback in the
07:53draft.
07:53I hope it's not going to be a big starter with them, but even if we stay with the Arch
07:56Manning side of things, you know, everything that comes with being a Manning and you know, everything that comes, I
08:00mean, down to people freaked out about whether or not Dion was going to have the interviews with Todd Munkin
08:05and talk to Todd Munkin.
08:06You think you don't think the Manning family wants to have conversations with Todd Munkin?
08:09Of course they do.
08:10Like that's going to be part of that.
08:11If you thought Todd Munkin was excited about his conversation with Dion Sanders, he's going to have to consult a
08:19doctor after four hours because it's still sticking around after meeting the Mannings.
08:22I have a lot of fun with the Mannings, but like that is going to be, that is a part
08:26of this.
08:27It's again, the, the similarities aren't that it's there.
08:31They're kind of direct in some sense and that, you know, you know, because of the last name, what's going
08:36to come with that.
08:37It's just interesting to find out whether or not the Browns go down that road again.
08:41So Ralph Vacchiano talked to anonymous scouts and they, they've called both Browns potential starting quarterbacks for the first half
08:49of the season.
