02:45I'll get to those questions or comments, things you want me to talk about in a future
02:48episode.
02:49Tonight, jumping into some AEW discussions, starting with Adam Copeland, formerly the WWE
02:53Superstar Edge, talking about his retirement clock, so to speak.
02:58It's being reported that his original plan was to retire by the age of 53, which will be
03:04this October, which also coincides with when his AEW contract runs out.
03:09He has made it very clear he has no interest, really, in being anything in the executive roles
03:13or being in the office or booking or anything like that.
03:16He really, it sounds like he just, in the time he's going to contribute to this business,
03:20he just wants to be a wrestler.
03:22Doesn't sound like he wants to be an agent or anything like that.
03:24Maybe when he wraps it up, finally, he'll go off and do something else wrestling related.
03:28But right now, it does not sound like he has any future ambitions of being in a bigger
03:33role in the backstage presence.
03:35He does have a lot of matches coming up soon that sounds like they could be exciting.
03:40He and Christian against the Young Bucks, potentially, maybe against the New Day, if
03:44the New Day come to AEW.
03:45Maybe they get to work with the Hurt Syndicate, another one that people have been talking about
03:49recently.
03:49I'd love to see anything they could possibly put together between now and October.
03:53But you've got to remember two things, really.
03:56One, we only have till October, and it may seem like that's a long ways away.
04:00It's not.
04:01We're going to blink.
04:01If we don't start getting some of these dream matches made, it's just not going to happen.
04:06Now, will he sign a short-term extension?
04:07There's no word on whether he's extended his contract already.
04:11Maybe he's willing to go beyond that 53rd birthday.
04:16We don't know.
04:16But it sounds like from everything he said previously that that was the original plan.
04:21So again, we'll have to wait and see.
04:22The other factor is that the tapings for the show of Dynamite this week, apparently Christian
04:29Cage got injured.
04:29And we don't know the severity of the injury yet, but that could also play a factor in
04:32what they do with Adam Copeland going forward.
04:35So something definitely to monitor.
04:37But for people who are huge fans of Edge and now Adam Copeland all throughout his career,
04:41it's nice to see him having the opportunity to come back to the industry after the quote-unquote
04:46career-threatening injury and do so many matches, so many things, put on so many highlight
04:52moments since he's had this run.
04:55And I'm really glad that he did make the decision to go to AEW because it was very clear that
05:00he was not going to get the opportunity to do the same level or same quantity of matches
05:05in WWE, and AEW has allowed him that freedom, and it's a wonderful thing, something I hope
05:10they continue to do for other talents coming in.
05:13But a big conversation this week has been on AEW, theoretically, when his contract runs
05:20out, wanting to work with Mick Foley.
05:22Now, I don't know what the status of Mick Foley's Legends contract is or whatever they want to
05:27call it.
05:28I know he has one.
05:29I know he's not interested in staying in WWE.
05:31The rumor is it expires sometime this summer and that Tony Khan would be interested in doing
05:36something with him.
05:37Now, I know there was conversation, rumblings, a few years ago about him doing something with
05:40MJF, a final match, so to speak, but his doctors discovered there were certain things
05:45going on that would make that very difficult to pull off, so I don't expect that he would
05:49do anything in a wrestling capacity.
05:51It doesn't mean he couldn't contribute on TV, but the real question is, what would you
05:55have him do of any substance?
05:57And that's the difficult thing, because beyond something in the ring, they don't really use
06:02on-screen commissioners or anything like that in AEW.
06:04Maybe only a couple times have they done something with Christopher Daniels, so I don't really
06:08see him doing something like that.
06:09So what do you do with Mick Foley if he does come to the company?
06:12It's not like the New Day, which people are still hypothesizing whether or not the New
06:16Day are going to go there or not.
06:18I think it would be great for them to get worldwide exposure with AEW and show that they
06:23could still go.
06:23Then again, they are more, I hate to say it this way, they're more cartoonish, so to
06:27speak, than what AEW typically goes for.
06:29I mean, take a look at what's happened with the Iconics.
06:31A very comedic tag team, women's tag team.
06:35They were able to do that in WWE and in TNA and do very well for themselves, but in AEW
06:40that doesn't really hit with their fan base.
06:42They are more of a hardcore wrestling fan.
06:44Now, I would argue that Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods, or Austin Creed now, could easily
06:51do that style, but it has been in a very long time since they've had to or really been
06:56forced to.
06:57So I don't know how they fit in.
06:59I would love to see it.
07:00I also have seen people talk about how TNA would be a better option because they could
07:04do that comedic role and add longevity to their careers.
07:08I don't know, but I still think it would be a great thing to see them make a mark in
07:12AEW.
07:13I think if they go there, you have to give them a tag team championship run.
07:16Let's be honest.
07:17That's what they're known for.
07:19Not sure how Big E feels about all this conversation, which I think is definitely a part of the conversation.
07:25I know there is talk of, you know, they always wanted to do the match between the Elite and
07:32the New Day.
07:33And there was talk this week that the Young Bucks were saying that they even had a phone
07:36call with Triple H about trying to make that match happen back in 2018, and it never really
07:40went anywhere.
07:41But obviously, if they come in, that's going to be something that happens, the Young Bucks
07:45versus the New Day.
07:46And I don't know what name they'll use because obviously the New Day, something's going to
07:49be, you know, copywritten by WWE.
07:51But definitely another thing to keep an eye on.
07:56Let's get into AEW Dynamite because that's really what we want to focus on tonight.
08:01Here's the thing about AEW right now.
08:02They are hitting on all cylinders.
08:04Their programming is phenomenal.
08:05Their storytelling has been fantastic.
08:08They are building some really compelling things heading month to month to month.
08:12It's just they're building momentum.
08:13Now, look, at this point, they're still nowhere near a threat to anything important in terms
08:18of WWE is concerned, so long as TKO doesn't screw up WWE anymore than they already have
08:23started to.
08:25But that does not take away from the fact that they are putting on some amazing, amazing
08:30television programming, and the matches are just off the chain.
08:33This week, you know, I'm not a big fan of these every week having these like 10 men or
08:38whatever tag team matches, but they had another one this week, another one where the Young Bucks
08:43aren't Cassidy and Cope and Christian come out victorious.
08:46Again, Christian got injured during the match, so I don't know what that's going to do to
08:50their program.
08:51But I think at this point, seeing Copeland and Christian Cage being booked so strong does
08:58certainly open the opportunity for them to go for the tag team championship again.
09:02I would love to see FTR more prominently featured.
09:06I feel like they've kind of taken the dip back, even though they're into programming.
09:09I feel like they've taken the dip back somewhat.
09:11I love what they're doing with Will Ospreay and the Death Riders.
09:14I don't know where it goes, and I'll get into that a little bit shortly, but there's
09:18definitely some opportunity there, I think, for something down the line for Will Ospreay
09:23and Jon Moxley.
09:25I don't...
09:26Again, I'll get into it later.
09:28I don't want to give anything away from what we're going to talk about later.
09:30The Mike Bailey-Westbrook match, waste of time, honestly.
09:34I don't have a problem with it because, obviously, Mike Bailey has to win matches and whatnot.
09:39But there is...
09:40It gets followed up by Brian Cage making his return to the promotion, and when he comes
09:47out...
09:47I'm going to be honest with you.
09:48I'm a huge mark for Brian Cage.
09:50I think he's one of the most amazing, underappreciated talents in all of AEW.
09:54When he was in TNA, in TNA World Heavyweight Champion, I thought he was just...
09:59He's something special.
10:00And if you've ever had the opportunity to talk to a guy on social media, he is about
10:04as personable and welcoming a person as you could possibly ask a professional wrestler
10:08to be.
10:09So I was thrilled to see him come back.
10:10He's been dealing with an injury for over a year.
10:13He comes back, and he's going to get a match with Kevin Knight for the TNT Championship.
10:17Kevin Knight, obviously, just after winning the championship, isn't going to lose the match,
10:20but it was definitely a strong way to bring Brian Cage back.
10:24I loved everything about that.
10:26But then after the match, Mike Bailey still there, grabs the microphone.
10:30Congratulations, Kevin Knight.
10:31And then what I find interesting is Mike Bailey inserting himself into the AEW World Championship
10:36conversation, saying that he's going to be the future AEW World Champion.
10:41He wants the next shot.
10:43Knight's going to be a future champion.
10:45He's obviously going to get other shots.
10:46I love how everybody talks about the World Championship.
10:50Because let's be honest, when you think about what wrestlers are supposed to do, if you're
10:53not shooting to be World Champion, you're in the wrong business.
10:55You shouldn't be there if you don't want to be World Champion.
10:58And really, in AEW, this is year in and year out.
11:00Everybody wants to be in the World Championship picture, and I love that.
11:03That mentality.
11:04It brings some legitimacy, I believe, to their product in terms of, even though we know that
11:10it's predetermined and things like that, it makes it feel like there's a competitive
11:13nature between the talent, which I absolutely love because it blurs the lines between key
11:18fave and reality.
11:19And I love that.
11:20Now, the commentary team does announce the brackets for the Owen Hart Foundation Cup
11:24Tournament.
11:26The opening round, see Samoa Joe and Will Ospreay makes a lot of sense with their recent
11:30history.
11:31I don't think anybody would be surprised that if I was like, like, I don't want to, like,
11:36obviously I can't give away spoilers because the matches haven't happened yet, but obviously
11:39I think Will Ospreay wins that match.
11:42I really don't see anybody winning this tournament but Will Ospreay because I don't see anything
11:47that lines up better than Will Ospreay competing for the AEW Championship in Wembley.
11:53So we'll have to wait and see how things play out, but he's going to face Samoa Joe in the
11:56opening round in the quarterfinals at double or nothing.
11:59You're also going to see Swerve Strickland versus Bandito.
12:03You're going to see Brody King against Claudio Castagnoli, and you're going to see Jack Perry
12:08against Mark Davis.
12:09Now, when I look at this, what really I feel bad about is there's only two guys that I'm
12:12fairly confident have no chance to win the tournament.
12:14That would be Jack Perry and Mark Davis.
12:15I think that because of the recent championship change for the national championship with
12:21Mark Davis beating Jack Perry, there's a great storyline there.
12:24I don't know who you bring out of that match.
12:26You could easily do Mark Davis, but then you're kind of burying Jack Perry who hasn't gotten
12:29a rematch for his championship.
12:31You could do Jack Perry and Will Ospreay.
12:33I think that would be an interesting match.
12:35I just don't think it has as much teeth to it.
12:37I would like to see the Mark Davis thing because there's history with he and Will Ospreay
12:40recently, you know, trying to re-injure Ospreay's neck and whatnot.
12:43On the other side of the bracket, the Swerve, Strickland, and Bandito match, I don't really
12:51see Bandito walking out winning the match, though it would be interesting for other reasons.
12:55I think obviously Swerve comes out of that match as the winner.
12:58The opposite end of the bracket when you see Brody King versus Claudio Castagnoli, I think,
13:03you know, could you put off a thing where Claudio wins and goes against Bandito?
13:08Maybe.
13:08Could he go against Swerve?
13:10Maybe.
13:11But I really think that this is a...
13:14I know sometimes AEW likes to rock the boat.
13:16I don't think you need to do that right now.
13:18I think it's very predictable, but I think it could be because of what people really want
13:22down the line, which is Swerve Strickland wins his match against Bandito.
13:26There is some intrigue there if Bandito were to face Brody King, but I don't think we go
13:30there yet.
13:31I think you have Swerve defeat Bandito.
13:34I think you have Claudio Castagnoli lose to Brody King, setting up Brody and Swerve,
13:39which is something we've seen recently at the last pay-per-view.
13:42And then we get to see, probably, in my opinion, Swerve win and go against Will Ospreay for
13:49the Owen Hart Cup.
13:50And obviously, in my opinion, you have Ospreay win that to go main event in London.
13:56That, to me, is poetry in motion.
13:58I don't see any other way to book that.
14:00I think the matches all make sense, though.
14:02They're very much aligned with current storylines.
14:04It furthers those storylines.
14:06It gives them something to fight about other than just wanting to fight with somebody.
14:09So I think the tournament's going to be fantastic.
14:11All the matches should be solid, top to bottom.
14:13Kudos to Tony Khan and his booking team for putting together some really compelling storylines.
14:18Will Ospreay then gets to face Ace Austin.
14:20Solid match.
14:21Ace Austin's a good hand.
14:22He really is.
14:22He's a phenomenal wrestler.
14:24I'd love to see him doing more.
14:25But in AEW, there's so many top-tier talents.
14:27I don't see a way for him to do that.
14:28But he still gets to have great matches.
14:31Will Ospreay comes out the winner.
14:33The Ops come out.
14:34There's conversation about what's going to happen with them in the Owen Hart Cup.
14:39Obviously, that's something we get to look forward to.
14:42After that, we have the commentary team revealing the women's Owen Hart Foundation Cup Tournament
14:47brackets.
14:48Willow Nightingale and Alex Windsor are going to go head-to-head in the quarterfinals at Double
14:52or Nothing.
14:52Athena facing Mina Shirakawa.
14:54In the quarterfinals.
14:56Persephone and Hazuki in the quarterfinals.
14:59And Sky Blue versus Sarray.
15:01Honestly, I think whoever comes out winning the Nightingale versus Alex Windsor, which
15:05I suspect is going to be Alex Windsor just because you can really solidify her, is probably
15:09going to be the one who wins the tournament.
15:10Now, that doesn't necessarily mean that has to happen.
15:13But it's certainly what I would do if I was booking the tournament.
15:16I think you could really solidify her as a main event level challenger for the AEW
15:20Women's Championship.
15:21I think that would make a lot of sense.
15:23We get the Triangle of Madness against Sheeta and the Brawling Birds.
15:28This is becoming...
15:29This is a great way to further the storyline without having to have championship matches
15:33every week for...
15:38Oh my goodness, I'm drawing a blank.
15:39Why am I drawing a blank on names?
15:42On Thelka.
15:43Thelka doesn't have to defend the Women's Championship every single week.
15:45I think that's a bad idea anyways.
15:46That's why I'm not a big fan of what they're doing with Darby Allin.
15:48I think there's a reason for it for Darby Allin, but whatever.
15:51This was a solid match.
15:53Disqualification ending.
15:54A championship title belt hit to Hayter is going to end the match.
15:58It's fine.
15:59It furthers the storyline.
16:00It gets people excited about the potential for Hayter to dethrone Thelka.
16:04We'll have to wait and see how that plays out.
16:06But I do think they're doing a great job with the Women's Division.
16:08Are there other people I'd like to see more involved?
16:10We haven't seen Mercedes, Monet in months.
16:12We haven't seen Britt Baker in years.
16:14Of course, there's other people that could be involved in the mix, but they're doing such a
16:17great job right now.
16:18I don't know that it's necessary.
16:19We do get Darby Allin versus Kanosuke Takeshka.
16:23This was put on because Kazuchika Okada had to go back to Japan.
16:27Some kind of family issue he has to deal with.
16:30And so this match is made instead.
16:32Darby Allin with a clean victory over Takeshka.
16:34I don't know that I like that ending just because it makes Takeshka look weak heading into
16:38his match against Okada coming up shortly.
16:42Not a lot of explanation why Okada had to leave.
16:45And that's his business.
16:46We don't need to know.
16:46But it definitely felt rushed.
16:49There could have been so much more.
16:50They should have delayed the match or something.
16:52But this is, again, it's a great match.
16:55It's a solid match.
16:56After that, of course, we get the Darby Allin MJF Championship contract signing.
17:01The match is going to take place.
17:02The hair on the line versus the championship.
17:04We get the MJF attacking with the diamond ring at the end of this whole segment.
17:09I think it's going to be a solid match.
17:12You have Kevin Knight come out to make the save at the end.
17:14Solid stuff.
17:15Look, Dynamite is a banger every single week.
17:19Tony Khan is putting on some great television every single week.
17:23If you are not tuning into AEW Dynamite and even Collision, you are missing out on phenomenal
17:28wrestling action.
17:29I get it.
17:30There are people who the tribalism in wrestling is real.
17:31There are people who are WWE only, AEW only.
17:34Watch it all.
17:35Watch as much as you can.
17:36There's so many hours of wrestling every week now.
17:38It's impossible to see everything.
17:39But watch as much AEW and WWE as you can.
17:42There is some really great stuff going on in AEW.
17:44And compare it to what you're seeing in WWE.
17:46Look, WWE has an audience and so does AEW.
17:49They're very different sometimes.
17:50But mainstream, like diehard fans, if you're listening to this show, this kind of fan,
17:54you need to be tuning in every week.
17:55You don't want to miss things.
17:56There are some really cool things happening in AEW.
17:58And I can't applaud them enough.
18:01Especially when WWE's booking has been down so much recently.
18:05I think it's really a great time to be an AEW fan.
18:08And I'm really looking forward to seeing what they do with these storylines coming up in
18:11the near future.
18:12That's all the time we have for this episode.
