02:35Hello, everybody.

02:50And we will try to get to as many of those as we can in a future episode.
02:54It is the big weekend.
02:56It is the talk of the wrestling world.
02:57It is John Cena's final wrestling appearance for WWE at Saturday night's main event.
03:03And the card, it's not the biggest card in the world, but then again, a PLE card is only about five to six matches these days also.
03:09And what we have going on, I think, is a very, very special opportunity.
03:13I love the fact that if you are one of those people who pays attention to the other programs out there, Chris Van Vliet, even the Pat McAfee show today, John Cena has been doing the rounds and really trying to make sure he gives his all to this last appearance.
03:28And it's really, really been a special thing to see that coming together.
03:31To hear him talk, especially on the CVV show, Chris Van Vliet show, where he talked about how this concept came together way back in 2022 was the first time he thought about it.
03:41Thinking about his booking schedule in terms of pre-production, post-production, promotion for films, his filming schedule, that you have to plan things out quite a distance in the future.
03:51And in 2022, he realized he was already booked up for 23.
03:54He was already booked up for 24.
03:56So he targeted 25 and originally wanting to do 220 dates, like old school WWE style of schedule, that did not come together.
04:06They chose to do 36 instead.
04:08I think there would have been a great situation if they could have done more than 36.
04:12I don't think they need to do 220.
04:15He did say he was looking to take a full year off from filming to just commit to this farewell tour.
04:21And all those types of things, I think, really lend to the fact that John Cena really is hanging it up for good.
04:28This is his last appearance, which is quite perplexing for some people because you know that WrestleMania, not in 26, but in 2027, will be going to Saudi Arabia.
04:38And we also know that they have pretty much given WWE a blank checkbook to make that event as big, as star-studded, as amazing as possible.
04:47And you would think that if there was ever going to be an opportunity to get John Cena to wrestle another match, that would be the opportunity.
04:54But I think if that was the case, especially hearing him say stuff like, this has never been done before.
05:00People always say they're going to leave and come back.
05:02And he said something to the effect of, like, professional wrestling retirement is kind of like a wedding.
05:07You know, it works until it doesn't kind of thing.
05:10With all those statements he's been making, I just don't see him coming back.
05:14And even if it's for WrestleMania 40, what is that, 43 at that point.
05:18And I think that's kind of a miss.
05:20I think WWE, looking ahead, knew that card was coming.
05:24And I actually don't think it would have been a bad thing to announce it ahead of time.
05:27Hey, listen, John Cena is done after 2025 with the exception of that pay-per-view.
05:33And, yes, is it a cash grab?
05:34We already know that.
05:36So if you could have negotiated that with him now for one match that year for that show, that would have been fine.
05:41But he didn't want to do that.
05:42Whatever.
05:42I agree with that.
05:43But I think what's the most beautiful thing about this show that's coming up tomorrow night is the fact that he really made it clear that from the beginning, he wanted the show to not be about him, but wanted the show to be about showcasing the future of WWE much in a similar way that he referenced this in the Chris Van Vliet interview, in the Pat McAvee interview, in various interviews he's had over the last several weeks.
06:05And I love that, and I love that he mentioned by name, he's like Kurt Angle basically was doing for him when he came in with the whole Ruthless Aggression first match out on SmackDown situation.
06:16And I love that.
06:17It's a guy who really understands the business.
06:19And for those who don't know, he signed a new five-year contract as an ambassador for WWE.
06:23So even though he won't be wrestling, he's obviously still going to be a part of the WWE family.
06:28He made reference to the fact that he wants to do commentary.
06:32He wants to contribute in some way.
06:33He just doesn't feel like he can do it anymore in the ring.
06:37And I think people misconstrue what he's saying when he says that.
06:40He also referenced the fact that AJ Styles feels similar.
06:43They were having a conversation in the back, and they looked at each other, and AJ looked at him and was like, man, I'm 48 years old.
06:49And it kind of like hit him what that means in terms of a wrestler.
06:53It's not that they couldn't both go out there for another 20 years if they wanted to.
06:56That's not the issue.
06:57The issue is John Cena, AJ Styles, people like that, when they go out there, they want to be what they have always been.
07:05John Cena wants to be the Unseen 17.
07:07He wants to be the GOAT.
07:09He wants to be, you know, the Five Moves of Doom.
07:11He wants to be all those stereotypes that we've talked about for him for years, and to him, he feels like he's slowing down.
07:18Now, you know, Chris Van Vliet put him on the spot and said, you know, the matches you've had this year, some of them have been your best matches of your entire career.
07:24And he's like, yeah, that's because I know this is all I got.
07:28You know, this is the one time I'm going to be able to pull this together.
07:30And AJ Styles is much in the same way.
07:32I believe that he is another person who doesn't want to go out as a lesser version of AJ Styles.
07:38He wants to be AJ Styles if he's going to be AJ Styles.
07:40And Alan Jones and AJ Styles are two different people.
07:44And I think that Alan Jones wants to be able to spend the rest of his life comfortable, in less pain.
07:50John Cena actually referenced the amount of pain that he's in on a relatively frequent basis.
07:55And that's hard to hear from someone who has been, you know, not trying to be funny or punny.
07:59But, like, this is a guy who may play a superhero in television shows and movies.
08:04But in real life, if you think about the record he holds for making wishes, for make-a-wish children and things of that nature, in a lot of ways, in as close to a non-supernatural way, this guy is a real-life superhero.
08:18He does make kids' dreams come true.
08:20He makes people feel better about their day, their situation, their life, and inspires young people, you know.
08:28And as a die-hard wrestling fan that I am, like, in all seriousness, he's a guy who came along later into my life.
08:33So it's not one of those things where I was a die-hard fan of his when I was a child.
08:36I mean, I'm in my late 40s.
08:37John Cena and I are almost the same age.
08:39I'm actually a hair older than him.
08:41So he and I grew up watching the same stuff.
08:43And it's not that he inspired me, but he's certainly somebody that I can look at and say,
08:48who is the new, I want to say the next John Cena?
08:50Because there will never be another John Cena, just like there's not going to be another Ric Flair or Hulk Hogan or Shawn Michaels or Triple H or The Rock.
08:57Those personalities are once-in-a-lifetime, Stone Cold, stuff like that.
09:01Who's going to be the next guy who breaks out as the character that nobody will ever be like?
09:07You'd love to say things like Cody Rhodes or Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, CM Punk.
09:13Punk, maybe.
09:14The other guys, I hate to say it, but a lot of them feel more commercial, for lack of any other terms.
09:21But John Cena, like, I think he, I don't want to, I'm not going to call the guy the GOAT.
09:25A GOAT conversation is a subjective thing.
09:28What is the greatest for one person may not be for somebody else.
09:31But it is hard to argue with, can he perform?
09:34Yes.
09:35Yes, is he the most amazing catch-as-catch can wrestler?
09:38Absolutely not.
09:38But is he able to go out there and put on a great performance, entertain the crowd, entertain more specifically the children, push merchandise, have promos and interviews, promote the company, show up at every show, stayed relatively healthy throughout his entire career, is in the most phenomenal shape of anybody on the roster.
09:56Or, you know, somebody was joking, I believe it was a Pat McAfee show, they were joking about 2% body fat for 23 years, you know, stuff like that.
10:02The guy took this job very, very seriously.
10:07And I think it's a testament that, you know, all the catchphrases and the things he puts on his clothes, hustle, loyalty, respect, you know, time is now, like all that kind of stuff.
10:16But it really, it wasn't just a catchphrase.
10:19It's a way he approached the business.
10:22The Pat McAfee show, he has the new shirt on and he has the words for his phrases on the sleeves and puts in his own words what those words actually mean to him as part of his life.
10:31And I hope at the end of the night, on Saturday night's main event, I hope everybody can look at this performance.
10:37I'm sure he's going to go out there and give it everything he's got.
10:40The only thing I can see that could be terrible is, God, heaven forbid, he ends up getting an injury early in the match or something like that.
10:45That would be terrible.
10:47Barring anything bizarre going on, he's going to give you everything he's got.
10:51And Gunther is going to do just the same.
10:53And I actually feel like, in retrospect, Gunther probably is one of the best current roster talents to have put him in this situation.
11:01The only person that I think I would have considered doing other than Gunther would be Obafemi.
11:10If you really wanted John Cena to do something to put over a talent going out in much the similar way to the way Kurt Angle allowed him to get over, it would be Obafemi.
11:19I love that Femi's going to be on the card and we're going to get to that in a few minutes.
11:22But I really think that John Cena has done everything he can to make this as special an experience as it can possibly be.
11:30There are going to be a lot of tears in the arena when his match is over.
11:34I suspect that, much like Ric Flair, the entire locker room will empty for everybody to come out.
11:39If you didn't see the posts on social media, all these talent in WWE putting up signs about, I can see you or I can't see you or hustle, loyalty, respect.
11:50Just different memories and things.
11:52And it's so beautiful to see so much of the roster want to give back to him because of all they feel like he's given to them.
12:01I saw a beautiful thing with Becky Lynch talking about after SummerSlam and her match with Lyra Valkyria how she was unhappy with her performance.
12:08And how he gave her some incredible advice that really helped change her perspective.
12:11And really it was insightful for her and that's just the kind of guy he seems to be.
12:16Now look, I get it.
12:17There are people who claim that early in his career he did a whole lot of politicking to keep certain people down or always put himself in a great position.
12:24The guy has an amazing relationship with Vince McMahon, always has.
12:27He's been in a great position because he does all the things we highlighted earlier.
12:30Did he destroy the careers of people like Alex Riley or Matt Cardona or Picks, anybody else who likes to claim that's the situation?
12:38I don't know.
12:38And I really at this point don't care because I think he's done enough in this business that he's more than just a wrestler.
12:44I think he has been for a very long time.
12:46He's a guy who should be calling some of the shots because he understands it because he was a fan first.
12:51All right.
12:51So I don't know.
12:53I will be very thrilled to watch the match.
12:56I'm excited to see the match and in a few minutes we'll get into my predictions for what we're going to see.
13:01Let's go down the whole card.
13:03I'm going to give you some predictions for the rest of the card.
13:04We'll give you predictions on the match.
13:06A couple little tidbits that go along with it.
13:08First off, we got AJ Styles and Dragon Lee taking on Leon Slater and Javon Evans.
13:12I love this match.
13:14I love the opportunity.
13:15I actually think, and right now, if you look at the polling, a lot of people believe that Styles and Dragon Lee are going to win this match.
13:21I would not do that.
13:23But I think WWE, this is kind of like when you're somebody who's investing money in the stock market or in a retirement fund.
13:29Leon Slater and Javon Evans are the future of the business for potentially WWE, both of them, even though Leon Slater is in another company right now as the ex-division champion of TNA.
13:39I think one of the most beautiful things they could do in this match is Leon Slater should get a roll-up pin on AJ Styles.
13:47And the reason I feel that way is, and I'm going to predict that.
13:49You know what?
13:49That's where I'm going to go.
13:50Not only am I going to pick a winner, I'm going to pick a how.
13:52So, Leon Slater, Javon Evans, I say they win.
13:54They defeat AJ Styles and Dragon Lee with a quick roll-up on AJ Styles by Leon Slater.
13:58And there's a reason for that.
13:59One, I think they have to showcase the heck out of these NXT talents, and they can't have them all lose.
14:04They can't.
14:05Or it makes NXT look like a subordinate brand, which I know and understand that a lot of people feel that way.
14:10But the quality of their program lately has made it, so they have to be considered a third brand.
14:15Now, they're not developmental anymore.
14:16They do as much or more than the main roster does on a weekly basis.
14:19Because in a lot of ways, Evolve needs to become the developmental brand, and this, you know, NXT needs to just be a third brand.
14:28That's really where my head is at.
14:29In this situation, Leon Slater, Javon Evans are two people who could be running your company for the next 25 years.
14:35They could be, I was just saying earlier about people who could be generational talents going forward.
14:39But these two both could be, I would like to see them at John Cena's last match, that Saturday night's main event, with the most eyes you could possibly ask for.
14:46See them pick up a win over an established, absolute legendary figure like AJ Styles and his partner, Dragon Lee.
14:52And then going down the road with TNA having their new distribution deal with AMC, this would be a great opportunity to set up a match between Leon Slater and AJ Styles for the X Division Championship in TNA Wrestling, where AJ could win the championship on his way to retiring in 2026.
15:09To eventually lose it back to him and put him over, I think would be great.
15:12So that's kind of where my head's at with that.
15:14I know the popular consensus is Styles and Lee walk away with a win.
15:17I am going to predict the other way.
15:19I'm going with Leon Slater and Javon Evans.
15:21Match number two that we're going to talk about is going to be between Bayley and Sol Ruka.
15:25I don't think Bayley loses anything if she loses to Sol Ruka.
15:30And if you think about it, Sol Ruka has a very unique finishing maneuver.
15:34Just the finish alone, the Soul Snatcher, is enough to garner in some mainstream attention and really turn some heads when she makes it to the main roster.
15:42So I think this is an opportunity to use the exposure of Cena's last match, Saturday night's main event, to really get her over and that move over to really get the pop from the fans.
15:51And put her in a position so that whenever she does make the move to the main roster, she is ready to go and go right into a character who already has a win over Bayley.
15:59Now, there is a possibility that Zarya gets involved and costs her the match, which I'm okay with.
16:05But we'll have to wait and see how that plays out.
16:09If I was going to give a prediction right now, this is a tough one for me.
16:12I'm actually going to predict that Sol Ruka wins, even though I don't think she will.
16:18I think storyline-wise it makes a lot more sense and it would help with her character, both in NXT and eventually in the main roster if she does.
16:24I'm going with Sol Ruka, who, by the way, is the voting consensus on multiple websites to win.
16:30So we're going Sol Ruka in that match.
16:32The third match, which people were debating whether this was going to go on last or first or what it was going to be, Cody Rhodes versus Obafemi.
16:40I have gone round and round and round about this because, let's be honest, I want to say Obafemi.
16:46I really do.
16:47Talk about the comparisons to Kurt Angle and John Cena.
16:51This is exactly the same scenario.
16:53The veteran versus the new guy.
16:54You could have Obafemi come out and beat Cody Rhodes.
16:57And think about what that does for Obafemi.
16:59But then again, Cody Rhodes is your meal ticket for WrestleMania.
17:02He's going to be your main eventer going forward for the foreseeable future.
17:06And he is the biggest draw in the company.
17:08That being said, most people on the sites that I've looked at have Cody Rhodes as the heavy favorite.
17:14And I'm going to be honest with you, I can't go against him here.
17:17I can't.
17:18I'm going to go with them.
17:18Cody Rhodes defeats Obafemi.
17:20But I would not be surprised if there was some outside interference or some interesting finish to the match.
17:26But I do think Cody Rhodes comes out with the win, even though I would love to see it be Obafemi.
17:32The main event, the match we've all been talking about.
17:34Gunther taking on John Cena for John Cena's final match.
17:39My brain has been racked all week thinking about this.
17:42I saw Jim Ross's comments on his Grilling with JR podcast talking about how he could put Gunther over on his way out the door.
17:50And it really gives Gunther something special.
17:52But you're not going to kill Gunther's character if you don't.
17:56You're not going to kill John Cena's character if you do.
17:58John Cena's a made man.
18:00His character and reputation is not going anywhere.
18:02I think the right thing to do for the business gets complicated because of what they've done recently.
18:11First off, let me back up a few weeks.
18:13I do not think John Cena should have won the Intercontinental Championship if he was going to lose it back to Dominic.
18:17I think that was a horrible, horrible, horrible booking decision.
18:20That championship, especially with Gunther's history with that championship, should have carried over into Saturday Night's Main Event.
18:26And this match should not only be John Cena's final, but it should have been for that championship.
18:30Then I would have said Gunther a thousand percent.
18:33Because Cena lost his second to last match.
18:36And then when you have him lose his last match, it makes it look like he really can't hang anymore.
18:41And that's exactly the image that John Cena wants to avoid.
18:45And that's why he's retiring.
18:46Not to mention the fact that Gunther's finish is basically choking somebody out where he wants to make him give up.
18:52The thing that he has in his slogan, he never gives up.
18:55I don't want John Cena to give up.
18:57That also being said, I am so tired of the booking of babyfaces when they are put to sleep, choked out, whatever.
19:05Where they pass out.
19:07So, oh, he didn't give up.
19:08He passed out.
19:10Going all the way back.
19:11I heard somebody else doing the same comparison on another podcast.
19:14Going all the way back to the Stone Cold, Steve Austin, Bret Hart match, WrestleMania 13.
19:18Where Stone Cold passed out in the sharpshooter, which never made sense to me in the first place.
19:22Now, hurting your lower back should not make your brain stop functioning.
19:25It just shouldn't have a loss of blood, maybe, I guess.
19:27But he didn't really lose all that much blood.
19:29It was just pretty graphic what he did lose.
19:32In this situation, Gunther choking out John Cena, whether he chokes out or taps out.
19:36And it's still, you still lost by a submission finish.
19:40Um, I hate to hear, think of that as being John Cena's final, final hurrah in the company.
19:46I would love to see John Cena walk out as the winner of his final match.
19:51I don't think it would hurt Gunther.
19:52What I would love to see, if they're not going to do that, if Gunther is truly going to be the one to go over,
19:57this is an opportunity, and I know it's not the popular opinion, but this is an opportunity to do something very unique.
20:03Like, Gunther, for all that he is a heel, is a very honest heel.
20:09I would love, if he does indeed beat John Cena, for Gunther to offer his hand, help him up,
20:16and pay such respect to John Cena, that there is no possible way for the fans to boo Gunther.
20:23Like, a bow down, because you're the goat kind of, kind of showing of respect.
20:27And then, because it's his last match, I would have Gunther leave the ring so John Cena could say goodbye.
20:32And, I know this is going to sound messed up, it's just what I would do.
20:35I would cue Brock Lesnar's music again.
20:38Have him come out to obliterate John Cena on his final night.
20:42And before he could get there, I would have Gunther defend John Cena to set up the epic battle that we all want to see.
20:49Gunther versus Brock.
20:50And I get it.
20:51You want that for Mania?
20:53I don't think it's going to be a Mania match.
20:54I really don't.
20:55I think it's going to happen before Mania.
20:58Because I think they have other plans for Brock at Mania.
21:00So, look, I'm going to do it.
21:02I'm going to fantasy book that exact thing.
21:04John Cena loses to Gunther.
21:06Gunther turns face and defends John Cena against Brock Lesnar.
21:11There's my out-of-the-box, crazy, over-the-top booking for Saturday night's main event.
21:15That's what I would book if I was them.
21:17It gives you a great match going forward.
21:19It gets people's minds freshly thinking about the Brock and Gunther match.
21:22It gives John Cena, yes, he takes the loss, but the restoration of his character through the outreach by Gunther and the beauty and the poetic nature of Gunther turning face to defend the greatest of all time as they see him.
21:39And take on his biggest adversary, the guy who's dominated him the last couple times that they've been in the ring together, I think is a fantastic way to send John Cena off.
21:49And then after, you know, he fights off Brock, Gunther could shake his hand, leave the ring, and the rest of the locker room could come out.
21:55We can do the whole confetti and celebratory stuff, you know, much in like the Ric Flair kind of way.
22:01There was conversation, and the reason I'm saying it in the order I am is there was conversation about whether or not John Cena's match was going to even main event the show, that it may have opened the show.
22:08But he was on the Pat McAfee show, and he made that very, very clear.
22:13They are on last.
22:14His quote is, I was on Jimmy Kimmel.
22:16I said I'm ending the show.
22:17I said I normally go to bed early, but I'm going to have to stay up late for this one.
22:21I guess people didn't read between the tea leaves.
22:23We're last.
22:24That is a quote from John Cena.
22:25So we don't have no question, no speculation at this point.
22:28John Cena's match will go on last, and he will close out the show.
22:32And I think that, in the way I just booked that for you guys, I think would be an incredible way to do it.
22:36The last thing we're going to get to tonight before we wrap it up, the big rumors coming out with John Cena retiring.
22:42We already know about Hiroshi Tanahashi retiring.
22:44We know about AJ Styles' plans to retire probably right around WrestleMania.
22:49And now, courtesy of conversations with John Cena on the Chris Van Vliet podcast and conversations about the match at WrestlePalooza, we know that he has heavily implied that Brock Lesnar will be retiring in 2026 as well.
23:04That in Minnesota, which if you look at the calendar, SummerSlam 2026 is in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the home of Brock Lesnar, his alma mater, University of Minnesota.
23:15So I think that that would be an interesting way to build to Brock's final retirement.
23:20I really hope he goes out as a face.
23:22I don't know how you do that, but I would love to.
23:24I've always been a huge Brock Lesnar fan.
23:26I still am.
23:27I got an opportunity to meet the gentleman in 2003.
23:30He was very pleasant, very nice, very approachable, took a picture that will always mean the world to me.
23:35So in my opinion, I think that would be a great way for them to wrap up Brock's career.
23:40And then going forward after that, the other conversation is that WWE has an offer on the table for Chris Jericho to return in 2026 and also have one last run retiring at the end of 2026.
23:50So lots of retirement conversation going on right now.
23:53Lots of things to speculate on to think about.
23:55We'll have to wait and see.
23:56But it's definitely a conversation piece I look forward to doing more of with you guys in the coming year.
