02:40Tonight, lots of things going to jump around quite a bit.
02:44Dynamite just went off the air.
02:46Interesting results tonight.
02:47We did get some exciting news.
02:49We got the brackets for the Women's Tag Team Championship tournament that's going to take place.
02:55You know, here's one of the problems I have in pro wrestling, especially when it comes to tag teams.
03:01It seems like companies don't, they just don't put the value on the tag team divisions like I feel like they should.
03:08And then we get something like this where it feels like almost all the teams,
03:11not all of them, but almost all the teams are almost like thrown together last minute just to make the angle work.
03:18And I think it's really a shame because there's so much more you could have done leading up to this
03:23if you would have taken a few months to really build up some tag teams and actually create a division
03:27because that's one of the things that both, you know, AEW in this situation with the Women's Tag Team Championship
03:32and WWE, they dropped the ball as well.
03:37They really do, especially in their tag team division.
03:39We do have the tag team tournament bracket.
03:42We have Mercedes-Money and Athena are going to team up and join forces.
03:45They're going to take on Willow Nightingale and Harley Cameron in the first round.
03:49Tony Storm and Mina Shirakaba are going to face Alex Windsor and Rio in the first round.
03:54Megan Bain and Penelope Ford are going to take on Ana Jay and Tay Melo.
03:58And Jamie Hayter and Queen Aminata, who won a four-way match on Dynamite to choose their opponents in the first round,
04:04they chose Julia Hart and Sky Blue for their opening match in the tournament.
04:09Look, I don't have a problem with any of these teams.
04:11I think what it really looks like to me is this tournament is going to come down to Mercedes-Money and Athena
04:17taking on Tony Storm and Mina Shirakaba.
04:20That's what I feel.
04:20And I feel like it's either you're going to give another championship to Monet, which she really doesn't need,
04:27or you're going to give Tony Storm an opportunity to do something other than be in the world championship picture
04:32because right now, obviously, that's with Chris Statlander.
04:35The rest of the show is pretty interesting.
04:37I thought the match with Okada and Bandido for the AEW Unified title was really well put together.
04:43But I think what's more exciting for me is seeing the clear dissension that's building between Okada and Konosuke Takeshka,
04:52the IWGP World Heavyweight Champion, also a member of the Don Callis family.
04:55Obviously, that's going to come to a head possibly in the Continental Classic.
05:00But we're going to have to wait and see how that plays out.
05:01But I think that's one of the more exciting matches that they're going to have going forward.
05:05I was really kind of disappointed that we have more Death Riders interplay with Darby Allin and all this.
05:11Like, why have the big blow-off at WrestleDream if you're just going to come right back to it again?
05:17And, like, can we please be done with this insane feud?
05:21It looked like they were going to go another direction.
05:23Death Riders versus Roderick Strong, Mark Briscoe, and Orange Cassidy.
05:26It's just too much.
05:29You know, the Darby Allin blow-off should have been the end of that feud.
05:32We need to move on to more substantial things and get people doing other things away from each other.
05:38Because it's really, it's run its course.
05:40I think people were kind of over the Death Riders heel turn months ago, long before Moxley lost the championship.
05:47And I think at this point, it's kind of beaten a dead horse.
05:49There's a lot of people clamoring for Moxley to potentially turn babyface.
05:54We'll have to wait and see.
05:55I know the way they ended WrestleDream certainly didn't help matters any.
05:59When, you know, you don't get to use any blood.
06:01Because, you know, the city of St. Louis has, you know, bands on those types of things.
06:04So you're using blood capsules.
06:06Which, you know, let's be honest, the fans are smart to the business.
06:09They understand that there's a no-blood clause in that city.
06:12So they know that if you're going to see blood, it's not real.
06:15The angle where they tried to show the skewer fingernail part, gross.
06:20But also looked to be fake.
06:22And when your big spot is the fish tank issue.
06:26It's a 10-gallon fish tank you put in a kid's bedroom.
06:29You're trying to drown somebody.
06:30One, why are you trying to drown somebody in front of children?
06:33And two, when you lead up to the show with all the insanity they've had.
06:36Including lighting somebody on fire and threatening Molotov cocktails.
06:39Trying to drown somebody in a 10-gallon fish tank seems a little anticlimactic to me.
06:44So I thought they should have done something more at the pay-per-view.
06:47And by now, since you didn't, just separate Darby and the Death Riders.
06:52They need to go their separate ways.
06:54Not thrilled with what they're doing with the Ops.
06:56I'm not sure why they had the Ops go over the Hurt Syndicate.
07:00I think that was kind of a bad idea.
07:02Don't get me wrong.
07:03I'm glad the Hurt Syndicate have taken a loss at this point.
07:05And I think they've done it to the right people.
07:07But this, I thought, was kind of ridiculous.
07:09And Ricochet, he's another one.
07:12He's been dealing with the Hurt Syndicate for too long.
07:16It's dragging on.
07:17It's bringing the product down when you're just waiting for something to be over.
07:22And that's one of those things I really feel like needs to be done.
07:26Because it's been done to death at this point.
07:28But all in all, Dynamite, not a terrible evening.
07:32Statlander is going to be at full gear taking on Mercedes-Monnaie.
07:36They had an interplay there where she hit her with a Samoan drop setting up their match.
07:41I'm sure it'll be fantastic.
07:43Either Monet collects yet another championship.
07:46Or for some reason, Statlander is the one who finally put her down.
07:49And I don't know.
07:52I just feel like we've got to get some belts off of her.
07:56And I get it.
07:57Like, I heard conversations on Busted Open about why all these small companies keep putting their belts on her.
08:03And I get it.
08:03It makes a lot of sense.
08:04It pops the attendance for your show.
08:07It guarantees she'll come back at some point and defend.
08:09It really is a good thing.
08:11But it's kind of to the point of lunacy at this point.
08:14Because I hear people comparing her to Ultimo Dragon.
08:17Dragon was collecting championships from reputable companies all over the world.
08:22Mexico, Japan, United States, Canada, Australia.
08:27It was different.
08:28This is like every mom-and-pop shop company that has a female belt is suddenly putting out a Mercedes-Monnaie.
08:34It just doesn't feel the same.
08:36It doesn't have the same prestige to me.
08:38So I don't really like the comparison.
08:41I do love that Tony Khan came out and made it clear this week.
08:44I believe it was on his ex-account that he was talking about the Continental Classic.
08:51He's going to come from the United Kingdom this year in Manchester.
08:55He said he's going to bring the Continental Classic back to Manchester.
08:58And back to Cardiff.
09:00So that's going to be exciting.
09:02I'm curious to see what the layout is now that they have the championship merged with another championship.
09:09I'm not sure how that's going to play out.
09:11Or is the tournament going to be for a shot at the Continental or the Unified Championship?
09:15I don't know.
09:16It seems very confusing.
09:17It seemed confusing for the last half a year.
09:19So we'll have to wait and see how that all plays out.
09:21But hopefully they find a way to keep the tournament feeling fresh.
09:26And bringing in some talent from New Japan is never a bad idea.
09:29Putting on some first quality, first time ever matches is always a great idea.
09:33I think that's where we'll finally see Takeshka and Okada.
09:36But speaking of New Japan Pro Wrestling, there's also huge news of a potential match in New Japan.
09:43As many people know, Hiroshi Tanahashi retiring at the end of the year.
09:47Wrestle Kingdom will be his last match.
09:49And the word is, there is a backstage report that there is talk of Shinsuke Nakamura, a current WWE contracted wrestler who had it written into his original contract to be able to work Japan, that he may go back to New Japan Pro Wrestling to be Tanahashi's final opponent.
10:05And Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Radio obviously feels the same.
10:09He thinks it is absolutely something that can happen.
10:11And, you know, if Tony Khan is upset about that, it's just going to have to be tough because there's apparently some difficulty in that relationship as there is right now anyways.
10:20And this would not be unprecedented.
10:23When Karl Anderson re-signed with WWE, he was the never openweight champion and they allowed him to go there and lose the championship to Tama Tonga.
10:31So the negotiations were difficult for that match.
10:35But something like this would be beautiful.
10:37And, you know, the opinion of Dave Meltzer is if Tanahashi, it's Tanahashi's decision.
10:43He says, as a matter of fact, I've got a quote here for you.
10:45It says, my gut is that if I could, and it could be dead wrong, but even though WWE and AEW are feuding and all the stuff WWE does to AEW constantly, I do think that Tony Khan, I know people are going to go, oh, he's going to get really mad.
10:59I don't know.
10:59Maybe he will.
11:00But I don't think so.
11:01I just think it's Tanahashi's retirement.
11:03If Tanahashi wants to retire against Nakamura, then they can pull that off and I think it should be okay.
11:08I would love to see that.
11:09I think it'd be fantastic.
11:11It'd be a nice way to send off Tanahashi.
11:14Giving him one last opportunity to go against one of his long time, like one of his greatest rivals.
11:20And I think it really speaks to, you know, the leadership under Triple H if he makes something like that happen.
11:26I think that would be wonderful.
11:27And let's be honest, in a weird way, could open doorways to other things down the line.
11:33You just never know.
11:34There's been talk about WWE and New Japan in the past, a few years back when Daniel Bryan was a free agent and WWE was trying to re-sign him and allow him to work the G1 Climax.
11:45So you just don't know.
11:46It could go any way.
11:48WWE stuff, I'll jump through some of it.
11:50One, frustrated coming out of Monday Night Raw.
11:53One, I think they dropped the ball with Nikki Bella.
11:54I think if anybody is so blind to the fact that it's obvious she's going to turn heel and face Stephanie Vakur, I question your fandom in wrestling.
12:02And I'm getting tired of things being way too predictable.
12:05It's really, really frustrating.
12:08The women's division right now with Vakur at the top, she should be facing people like Rhea.
12:13Now, if you're going to save that for Mania, I get it.
12:15But there are other premium stars that she should be wrestling against.
12:19I also hate the way they're booking Roxanne Perez.
12:21She's almost like somebody who just shows up to take a pin to anybody.
12:25And I don't like that.
12:27I don't like that at all.
12:27The young lady's a prodigy.
12:29She needs to have her character protected because if you beat her down too much,
12:32the fans are never going to get behind her as a legitimate contender for a world championship.
12:36And that can be somewhat problematic.
12:37So I did not like the Nikki Bella stuff.
12:39Don't like the Roxanne Perez stuff.
12:43Not thrilled with DeBron and Bronson not being included in the Battle Royal.
12:46I thought that was a missed opportunity.
12:48It really is insane to me how that somehow plays into their storytelling.
12:53You could have had them in there and have them get eliminated by Jey Uso anyways just to preserve that element of the feud.
13:00I know the word is that they're planning for a Braun Breaker-Brock Lesnar interaction at some point leading to a match.
13:07And I'm fine with that too.
13:08But this was a night where they should have been in the Battle Royal.
13:11Now, on top of that, watching the Battle Royal, WWE dropped the ball twice more.
13:16One, I think when we finally saw the numbers dwindling, some people actually got a moment where they thought,
13:24is AJ Styles going to win this and have AJ Styles versus CM Punk on Saturday night's main event for the world championship?
13:29And I am telling you, I would have been 1,000% okay with that.
13:33I think that would be the best match you could possibly put on at that show.
13:36When AJ gets eliminated, my attention immediately shifted as did the fans when they lost their flipping mind
13:44when Jey Uso throws Jimmy out of the ring and you realize that Dominic Mysterio was still out there.
13:51Had they used Dominic Mysterio in this role and had Dominic Mysterio go against CM Punk,
13:56again, I don't think he would win it, but it would make for a much more compelling storyline.
14:01The fans would be behind him more.
14:03It would be very interesting.
14:04The Jey Uso winning the Battle Royal facing CM Punk, I'm not a fan.
14:09Not even 1%.
14:10I think one of two things happens.
14:13One, CM Punk wins.
14:15Period.
14:16And that's not just me saying that.
14:18Right now, the early odds are already out for Saturday night's main event.
14:22And right now, and we still got time, Punk is a minus 800 favorite over Uso at a plus 425.
14:28So if you go strictly with conventional wisdom, Punk wins.
14:33The only thing that could shake it up is if Bron and Bronson cost Punk the championship.
14:39That's the only thing I can see.
14:40Or if, and we all know that Seth is legitimately hurt, if somehow this has all been a ruse,
14:45which would be a really bad look for WWE if they did it again in the same year.
14:49Or if for some reason he appeared for some reason to prevent Punk from winning, because that's what he's always been saying.
14:54Or Becky Lynch cost him the championship.
14:56That's possible.
14:58But we need a resolution of this world championship situation.
15:01And if you're not going to bring Roman back and have him be the flag bearer, they should have made it Braun Breaker.
15:06And on that topic, let's be honest, I'm actually thinking it's time for WWE to consider changing his name to like Braun Steiner or Bronson Steiner or something Steiner.
15:17They keep referencing the family name, which just makes it more and more ridiculous looking to keep using Braun Breaker as his name.
15:24It's not his name.
15:24We all know it's not his name.
15:25Make him a Steiner.
15:27Just do it.
15:28Get it done.
15:29Be done and over with.
15:30The longer you hang on to this horrible name that I don't know who thought it up, but it was terrible, the less opportunity you're going to have to change it later.
15:38You really need to get on that.
15:40Also at Saturday night's main event, it's been announced that Cody Rhodes is going to defend the WWE Undisputed Championship against Drew McIntyre.
15:48Look, here's the thing.
15:49I don't know what else you do with Cody if you take the belt off of Cody.
15:53Let me say that first.
15:55So I think he has to win.
15:56At the same time, I am sick and tired of Drew McIntyre not being world champion.
16:00He earned it.
16:01He should be the guy.
16:03He and CM Punk had the best feud of the year last year.
16:06He's always on point.
16:07His matches are phenomenal.
16:08He can do anything on the mic.
16:09He can work to people on social media.
16:11What more could you possibly ask for?
16:13I think it is time to give Drew McIntyre a substantial run.
16:16But as I said, what do you do with Cody if you do that?
16:20Now, does he become the only guy other than Stone Cold Steve Austin to win three Royal Rumbles
16:25and go back to Mania and challenge for the championship again?
16:28I don't know.
16:29I'm not a big fan of that idea.
16:30But whatever.
16:31That's a possibility.
16:32But I really just think they're going to miss the boat if they don't put the belt on Drew at this show.
16:36I really think that's what they should do.
16:38I don't think they will.
16:40Kind of going along with what I said earlier.
16:41The AJ Styles, Dragon Lee winning the tag team championship.
16:45Look, I'm happy for AJ to get a championship run in before he leaves.
16:49But at the end of the day, at some point, WWE needs tag teams.
16:53And they have some that they don't push at all.
16:56I don't care how big of stars they are.
16:58The tag team division should not include prime time, top tier talent like AJ Styles,
17:05who at bare minimum is upper mid card.
17:09This is where people like the War Raiders, people like the New Day,
17:12people like Alpha Academy and the Creed Brothers.
17:20The Creed Brothers by now should have been multiple time tag team champions.
17:23They just should have.
17:24I don't know what they're doing with them.
17:26What a waste of incredibly talented people.
17:28But I hate the tag team division on Raw.
17:30SmackDown's is much better.
17:31But they really need to cultivate something.
17:33I honestly think they should have brought Phoenix over to Raw
17:35and had Phoenix team with his brother and go that route.
17:38I really do.
17:38It would really bolster that division if they did.
17:40But I'm not the booker.
17:42I'm just saying.
17:44Let's go down the rabbit hole here.
17:46AEW star.
17:47I'm going to say it that way because I guess technically that's what he's supposed to be.
17:50Andrade has been announced for an independent wrestling event
17:53despite the fact that he's supposedly under a no-compete clause.
17:57We know that he returned to AEW.
17:58Attack Kenny Omega hasn't been on TV since.
18:01WWE issued a cease and desist alleging that Andrade was breaking his one-year no-compete clause.
18:07We'll get to that in a minute.
18:09But Big Time Wrestling has announced that their latest show,
18:12the Augusta Civic Center this November 1st,
18:15that they're going to have a meet and greet with Kurt Angle.
18:18They're going to have Matt Riddle versus PCO in a no-disqualification match.
18:22And they're going to have Andrade versus Donovan Dijak,
18:26which is interesting because he's not supposed to wrestle for a year.
18:30Now, what I find even more interesting about that,
18:33for those who remember who he is,
18:35David Otunga, former member of the Nexus,
18:37who in real life is a Harvard grad and a lawyer,
18:40he tore into this whole one-year no-compete clause.
18:43Like, don't get me wrong.
18:45A 90-day no-compete that you're paid, I get.
18:48But according to him, contracts as far back as his contract in 2017,
18:51which he pulled on his recent podcast,
18:54he said they had one year in those contracts.
18:56They choose to do the 90 days, but they can do up to the year.
18:59And they did a year to Andrade,
19:02and he questions, one, the legality of it,
19:04that preventing somebody from earning an income in their vocation for a full year unpaid
19:08would be thrown out by any judge.
19:11And I agree with that.
19:12It would take a while to do it.
19:13It would take some money to do it.
19:14But I think at some point,
19:15somebody should do that.
19:17To really get rid of these no-compete clauses,
19:19if you're an independent contractor,
19:20it would force companies to do one of two things.
19:22Either you don't fire people and you pay them,
19:24or you create a situation where people,
19:27if you're going to fire them,
19:28they can go work somewhere else,
19:29which is what they should be able to do.
19:31I understand their concern that people will intentionally get fired whenever they want to leave,
19:36but that's what happens in business.
19:38It doesn't always go your way,
19:39and contracts like this are supposed to be mutually beneficial.
19:42And this is clearly not.
19:43Because of their one-year deal without pay,
19:46that's where it becomes a legal issue.
19:47Now, I love that Otunga also threw out the possibility
19:50that WWE is pushing this one-year thing for a reason.
19:54If they push the one-year,
19:56and AEW wants to settle with them,
19:59they can make a deal.
20:00Where,
20:01and I heard them talking about this on Coach's show on Busted Open also today,
20:06you could do an angle where
20:07the agreement between WWE and AEW
20:10would be that Andrade could return to the company
20:12before the end of his year,
20:14if, and only if,
20:16WWE were to be able to
20:18use the services of Edge
20:20for John Cena's last match,
20:23and that might be the leverage they need to get Edge.
20:26I don't know if Tony Khan would go for it.
20:28And if I were him,
20:29I probably would not go for it.
20:30I think it's not a great idea.
20:32I think you should stick to your guns.
20:33You know your talent.
20:35And if anything,
20:36Tony Khan being in the position he's in financially,
20:39were I him,
20:40I'd actually finance the lawsuit to challenge it.
20:43I really would.
20:43Let's get these things out of here.
20:45They don't need to be a part of the business anymore.
20:47It's kind of ridiculous.
20:48So,
20:48interesting thoughts on Otunga's show,
20:50but I would not be opposed to it.
20:52Speaking of non-compete clauses,
20:54Samantha Irvin had apparently a two-year non-compete clause.
20:58She's just finished the first year.
21:00I don't know if they have been paying her all this time.
21:05I didn't see a definitive about that.
21:07But clearly she has one year left until she can get free.
21:11I love how Ricochet was posting online like he's her boss and will determine whether or not she goes back to work or not.
21:17But this is not unheard of.
21:20Renee Paquette also had a one-year non-compete clause after leaving WWE in 2020.
21:25So,
21:26it's interesting.
21:27She's been doing music ever since.
21:29But she also,
21:30with a two-year non-compete clause,
21:32which I wonder if it's another one that could be challenged very easily unless she's getting paid.
21:38If she's getting paid,
21:39then I think that she might be stuck.
21:42But at this point,
21:43one year left.
21:44The person who doesn't have a year,
21:45Lillian Garcia,
21:46in the news,
21:47signing a multi-year deal with WWE.
21:49She's returning.
21:51She was on,
21:52I believe it was on X,
21:53where she said that she returned like a year ago.
21:56And now she signed a two-year extension with WWE.
21:59Good for her.
22:00One of the classic voices.
22:01And the last tidbit of contract news for the night,
22:03Mustafa Ali in TNA,
22:06his contract coming due at the end of the year.
22:08He's joining a long list.
22:10The Hardys,
22:10the Inspiration,
22:11Trey Miguel,
22:12Zachary Wentz,
22:13Cedric Alexander,
22:14like they all have contracts expiring.
22:17And you got to start to wonder,
22:18like what the heck is going on in TNA with their contracts?
22:23You cannot have this many talent be coming up for renewal
22:26and certainly not put them in tag team championships on the men,
22:30tag team championships on the women,
22:32the rascals.
22:33Like you can't afford to lose them right now,
22:34especially when Wesley is a free agent now.
22:36You can put them back together.
22:38So not a smart idea if you ask me
22:40when it comes to the way TNA is handling this.
22:44But I guess very soon we're going to see a rash of free agents.
22:47And I'll be curious to see where they show up.
22:49Ali was welcomed back to NXT for the program he just ran.
22:53I would not be surprised to see him return to WWE.
22:56And, you know,
22:57the others could go pretty much anywhere.
22:58I'm sure the Iconics would love to return to WWE.
23:00So we'll have to wait and see.
23:01But definitely interesting stuff when it comes to contracts and TNA wrestling lately.
