00:00Just, yeah, just stay right in front of you, buddy.
00:03Okay.
00:03Because I'm like, yeah, over there.
00:05Hi, my name is Reagan.
00:06And I'm Sydney.
00:07And welcome to Our Sweet Dorm.
00:08Or Our Sweet Digs.
00:09But before you come in, make sure you subscribe below.
00:12Got it?
00:13All right, come on in.
00:14We stay in Butler Hall at Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas.
00:17We pay $2,735 a semester.
00:21That ends up being about $780 a month per person.
00:24I think the amount of money that we're spending for this dorm room is,
00:27I feel like it's like a lot, but I don't know how much it is to live in the real
00:30world.
00:30I would say it's a little bit pricey, but it's worth it for the college experience.
00:34I'm super close to the river, all my classes, and the square.
00:37But I also really like the community here because all of our RAs are super sweet and inviting,
00:41and we always have game nights and community nights where I get to meet a lot of people.
00:46So over this way we have my desk, and one step this way is my bed and our futon.
00:52This room compared to my room back home is about half the size,
00:55so it was definitely a really hard transition moving in with one other person.
00:59The first thing you see whenever you walk into the dorm is the hand-woven Persian rug
01:02that we found at the thrift store.
01:03One night in the summer before we moved to Texas State,
01:06Sydney and I had a sleepover, and we were actually researching where to find Persian rugs,
01:10and then we went to the thrift store in the morning.
01:11We found one right in front of our face.
01:14The ones we were looking at online were thousands of dollars,
01:16and we found this one for only $20.
01:18The most sentimental items in my room are the photos of family and friends and my memory box.
01:23My memory box is a collection of handwritten notes and letters from friends
01:26and pictures or flowers that I've gotten since I've been at college.
01:30The drive home from here is about three and a half hours,
01:32so I really like having all these pictures and stuff to remind me of the ones I love.
01:35I'm a social work intended major, and I chose to study it because my older sister actually graduated here,
01:40and seeing the career path that she chose really inspired me to help people.
01:44Probably the scariest thing about this dorm is having to climb up the wobbly bed.
01:47My desk is pretty messy most of the time, so I usually clear off a little tiny space.
01:52I can climb onto my bed from my desk.
01:53I'm always scared I'm going to roll off the bed while I'm sleeping, which hasn't happened yet.
01:57The most annoying part about living in a dorm is definitely sharing the bathroom with so many girls.
02:01We share four toilets, four sinks, and four showers with over 50 girls.
02:04You can hear every time the door opens, every time someone flushes the toilet or takes a shower.
02:11Which is kind of annoying.
02:13And then we have my bed, and under here we keep our food and our TV, and then I have
02:19my desk over here.
02:20My favorite part about the dorm room is the large window we have.
02:23We have a perfect view of Old Main, which is a really pretty old building.
02:26In most dorms, the windows are smaller than the one we have, so we have a pretty big-sized window
02:31for our room.
02:31The most sentimental item I have is the flower my boyfriend gave me the first time we hung out.
02:35I let it dry, and then I put it in a little frame.
02:38I've been dating my boyfriend for almost a year, and we've been doing long distance.
02:41Also, I have a picture of my cat on the wall.
02:44My cat's name is Beans.
02:45I've had her for four years.
02:46This was actually my brother's cutout that he took to college, and then I stole it when I went to
02:50college.
02:51My biggest fear is that she'll forget who I am.
02:53I came in with my major as biology, and then I took AP biology my senior year, and I hated
03:00it.
03:00So I Googled majors, and the first one was anthropology.
03:04I used to watch a lot of datelines with my mom, and so I thought forensic anthropology would be a
03:09good fit for me.
03:10And then my closet.
03:12My least favorite part about the dorm room would be the closet.
03:14I have a lot of clothes, and not all of my clothes fit in there.
03:17We go home a lot, and we swap out the clothes we have for, like, winter, summer, spring.
03:22We do share clothes a lot.
03:23If I could steal one thing from City's closet, it is a pink-and-white striped Urban Outfitter shirt that
03:29I steal about once a week.
03:30And if I could steal something from Reagan's closet, I would steal her black-and-white sweater, which is the
03:34only thing that fits me in her closet.
03:36Because she's taller than me, so I can wear more of her clothes.
03:38And she just owns crop tops, so everything is like...
03:41Sydney and I met in the second grade whenever we had lockers next to each other.
03:45I really had to work up the courage to go talk to her because I thought she was so cool.
03:48And one day she asked me to be her friend.
03:50She responded with, oh my gosh, I was going to ask you the same thing.
03:53I knew we were going to be best friends immediately because we both bonded over the Jonas Brothers.
03:58When we both found out that we were accepted to Texas State, it was a given that we were going
04:01to room together.
04:01We had a class together senior year, and the only thing we did in that class was look at Pinterest
04:06and start designing our door.
04:08Sydney and I would have sleepovers in the summer where we would plan what kind of decor we would have,
04:11and we would just fantasize about the different bedding we would choose.
04:15We came up with the idea for the setup by looking at the Texas State website.
04:19We saw a picture of how one person set it up, and then we just kind of copied the idea
04:23and made it ours.
04:24We usually shop together.
04:26We would just put everything in the same cart and have the cashier split it down the middle, so we
04:29were paid equally for everything.
04:30Our parents kept telling us, the futon won't fit, the rugs are too big, and we were like, no, we're
04:35going to prove you wrong.
04:36So we looked for a piece of chalk and your dad's measuring tape.
04:39We ended up drawing out the actual size of our dorm using all the measurements of the closet, the bed,
04:44the desk.
04:45It was a bit shocking that the whole dorm could actually just fit in your driveway.
04:48I do like lots of color in the room. I try to keep it colorful and bright.
04:53I would describe our home style as eclectic and cozy.
04:56I think we wanted a lot of art on the walls to cover the sterile vibes that come from the
05:01cement walls.
05:02The best part about living with my best friend is it's an endless sleepover every single night.
05:07As we're falling asleep, we'll just talk to each other until we're making no sense,
05:10and I will send her like a funny thing on social media and just wait for her to giggle.
05:13It's really fun. A lot of people tell us not to room with your best friend, but I think it
05:17would be a lot harder not having my best friend here.
05:19We can relate to each other and we can get deeper than I would with like a stranger.
05:23He said, come in as best friends, leave as enemies, but we honestly haven't really had many fights
05:28or like don't really disagree about much, so I think it's been really fun.
05:32Since living with Sydney, I've noticed that we've been saying a lot of the same things at the same time.
05:36Oh, yeah. Yes.
05:37And our laughs have morphed into one.
05:41I actually have noticed that. That's really scary.
05:43It's like the same pitch.
05:43Next year, we actually are moving off campus to a two-bedroom apartment and we're so excited.
05:48The rent for next year is about $640 each.
05:51We're excited to have more rooms to decorate like our own bathrooms, the living room, the kitchen, our own rooms.
05:57We won't have to have the meal plan and we actually get to cook and we can bake cookies finally.
06:02I don't think you bake cookies.
06:03Yes, I do bake cookies.
06:04You've never given me any.
06:07One piece of advice I have for incoming freshmen would be to talk about things with your roommate
06:12and don't let them just build up because that would cause a lot more issues in the long run.
06:16Just keep in mind that you're sharing a space with someone and you need to be respectful
06:20and it'll help you get along and not fight about anything.
06:23The last time we got sassy with each other was last night.
06:26We were trying to clean the room and I wanted to watch a movie.
06:29I didn't want to watch the same movie as her.
06:31Imagine like the most sassy way you can turn my movie.
06:34Like you turn it on.
06:35No, I turned it on and you were like, we don't have to watch it and I was like, I
06:38turned it on.
06:38You turned your back to me and looked on your phone and I was like, I giggled at something
06:41and you said.
06:43But then we went and ate and we were fine.
06:51Thank you so much for watching Our Sweet Digs.
