00:00Hi everyone, my name is Jamie Hoard, this is my husband Phillip Hoard. Welcome to
00:04our sweet digs where we just renovated the downstairs of our home. We want to
00:08show you around, but before be sure to subscribe below and come on in.
00:17So we live in an extended three-bedroom Cape Cod which was built in 1932. And we
00:24bought our house for 560 grand, put about 140,000 into it in the first floor
00:29renovation and now it's appraised at about 720 grand. We bought the house in
00:342019 in November. We kind of fell in love right away. And I fell in love with the
00:38exterior, I mean it was the brick house. I've always wanted a fully brick house.
00:42Long Island and Garden City specifically is like a perfect mix between the
00:46farmlands that we grew up to the city that we lived in for years, so we really
00:50love it here. The first room we are going to show you is our
00:55Horderly headquarters, which is mainly just Phillip's office. The design was
01:00inspired by all of Phillip's favorite hobbies, which is reading, whiskey, Winston
01:08Churchill. We are the founders of Horderly Professional Organizing. I founded it a
01:13little over five years ago. Phillip came on shortly after full-time. He runs all the
01:18business side of things. I'm all things organizing. We now have a team of 30
01:23employees across the U.S. It's been fun growing it together as husband and wife.
01:28Phillip and I met in high school. We are high school sweethearts. My last name is
01:33Horde, right? Now hers is as well. And she started Horderly within the same month
01:37that we got married actually. I actually started the thoughts of Horderly before we
01:41got married and I even like changed my email and everything. And my dad was like, he
01:46was offended that I changed my last name before we got married. I have my friend
01:52here Lonnie and we sip on bourbon together, sometimes scotch. And this is his desk here.
02:01We wanted it to be in the center of the room where we have chairs as well so we
02:04can be more of a conversational piece if we have people over or if I have some
02:08employees over for a meeting. But really it's like the library feel and because
02:13we're doing so many virtual calls it's a it's a nice background to have this desk
02:18here. And the desk of course as you can imagine is extremely organized inside.
02:22We knew we wanted this room to be very bold. We both envisioned this room being a
02:27dark green but I did stare at green swatches for four months straight and
02:31they all started to look the same at one point. We also added the framing on the
02:36walls. Something I've always envisioned in one of our rooms and this was the
02:40perfect room to do it in. Alright and right this way is the kitchen. There was a
02:45door here that we closed in and then we put a little archway to the kitchen which
02:49really like opens up our space. So this is our little coffee station and beverage
02:56area. This whole section here used to be a powder room before we renovated it.
03:03Phillip really was pushing for a coffee maker in his office and I just wasn't
03:08about it so we ended up creating this little coffee nook so that was close to
03:14his office. And then Phillip has his little beer tap there and I've got my
03:18little wine fridge here. It's Jamie's white kitchen. Jamie always wanted a white
03:24kitchen so this is like a dream come true. I've always dreamt of a white kitchen.
03:28You probably cannot tell but the island is a shade darker than the rest of the
03:34cabinets but you really can't tell. That was going really far out on a limb there with the contrasting cream.
03:40In the kitchen there was a lot of demo. So we knocked down quite a few walls in
03:46this house. There used to be a wall here and then a wall right here. We knew we
03:52really wanted an open layout so we knew right away we wanted those walls gone. We
03:58did have to put in some extra headers but it was worth it. It was a yellow
04:04kitchen very closed in very dark and then with the walls down it was like holy
04:09cow our house is twice the size that it was but really open but like really easy
04:14to navigate so. After we did this renovation and Jamie loved the process of
04:19designing our kitchen so much that we're actually launching early 2021 our new
04:25kitchen design service. We see beautiful kitchens all the time in our clients
04:30house but we always hear our clients complaining about how their kitchen is
04:33not functional for them so I would love to help them create not only a beautiful
04:38kitchen but a functional one. And then my favorite thing and favorite appliance in
04:44the house is got to be our faucet. It's a zip water faucet and it does instant
04:49filtered chilled water, instant sparkling water, and instant boiling water all like at a
04:55touch of a button and it's just it blows my mind every day. It's fantastic. Now to
05:01our dining slash conference room. So we ended up doing the chair railing and the
05:06framing in here as well to that matches the office to bring in a cohesive feeling
05:12throughout this main floor. We do run our business out of our house so this is
05:18actually where we do a lot of our budgeting planning things like that and we
05:22have a hidden secret whiteboard right here which I can't live without a
05:30whiteboard. We did have this massive whiteboard that we carted around all the
05:33time and Jamie was like we gotta mix that thing because it has no home in this home.
05:38All right so now for our living room which is my favorite room of the house. The
05:46biggest change that we did was we raised the ceiling. When the contractors first
05:52came in we had them put a hole in the ceiling to see what was up there because
05:56I knew there was wasted space and we could really take advantage of that. Most
06:00expensive project of the house right there. Yeah, but again worth it. The
06:06renovations was all Jamie's genius. We worked with a fantastic contractor, general
06:10contractor John Strom. We started renovating it about a month after living in it. We moved
06:15upstairs, you know our pantry was up there, we were washing our dishes out of
06:19our bathroom sink. Which is like this big. Then the pandemic struck and all work
06:25was shut down and so we were just kind of like living up there and kind of
06:29hibernating. Which we lived in a studio in Brooklyn for five years so we were fine
06:33with it. If you see the before photos of this house. It's an 80s paradise. You really
06:38have to have that vision if you plan on renovating. It's so important to think
06:44about functionality first. With function comes beauty. You don't have to go for
06:49beauty first. And it's also important to declutter before renovation, take inventory
06:54of what you have. When one thing comes in, one thing goes out and everything has a
06:59home. We sound like an Instagram caption, I know. Yes, we do live a very
07:04organized life. We're minimal people. We, you know, laid out the entire house to be
07:09perfect for us. And we think that's so important. That's what we do for our
07:12clients. We knew there was a lot of work to do in this house so we wanted to
07:16break the renovation up in phases. So phase one which we just went through was
07:21just the main floor which is our living room, kitchen, office and dining room.
07:26Our phase two we plan on doing the outside. And phase three we plan on building
07:31into our garage and adding a powder bathroom and a mud room. And then phase
07:36four, the upstairs. Phase five we move out and buy another house. And start all
07:41over again. We're so glad that you guys got to see our first floor renovation.
