00:00This building checked off all the lists.
00:02It has a gym, it has the outdoor pool.
00:04So its amenities are definitely in line for everything that I like to do.
00:11Hi, everyone. Welcome to My Sweet Digs.
00:14My name is Samantha and come on in.
00:16So I currently live in a studio apartment that cost $2,024
00:21within the fashion district of downtown Toronto.
00:24And I currently live by myself.
00:27I love this area.
00:28I'm right across from Staff Market, which is beautiful.
00:32They support a lot of small businesses, especially locals.
00:35So I definitely go over there whenever I can.
00:40I would describe my home style as minimalist and boho.
00:44And with a pop of pink, I definitely like all those three things.
00:47They work together.
00:48Right here is actually my laundry room as soon as you enter.
00:52And then when you open this door, this is my closet.
00:55So I actually have an industrial sewing machine.
00:58I did take fashion design at Ryerson University.
01:01If you go onto the other side,
01:04it's just where I store all my jackets and all of my shoes.
01:08I love jackets.
01:10I'm obsessed.
01:11Like, I love a fashionable jacket.
01:19I have this lovely painting that I actually did in one of my illustration classes in university.
01:25This find, it should be something around like $200.
01:29It's a jewelry box that kind of expands outwards.
01:32But I got it on sale for $9.99.
01:41This is one of my favorite places because it is a big bathroom for a studio.
01:47I've definitely set this up as like a little mini oasis.
01:52I take advantage of self-care.
01:54So I have like these luxurious baths that I take.
01:57And I make sure I put a lot of bath bombs and florals in it.
02:00So I actually got this chair.
02:02It was a dark brown, but I painted it white.
02:05And then I also have this painting that I did.
02:09I just made sure that the colors just matched everything around here.
02:12And then if you peek through,
02:14I have some eucalyptus, which is always really good.
02:17Definitely a great way to have that decompress and make you feel good about yourself.
02:22Let's take you to the kitchen now.
02:26So it's very small, but for somebody living on their own,
02:30single girl like me, this is just very practical.
02:33I definitely always have like my wine glasses out because it's always good to have a glass a day, I
02:37think.
02:40So a lot of pink tones and brown tones, which I really enjoy.
02:44And then it translates well against the couch that I have here.
02:47So if I do have like my niece or nephew that come over to visit,
02:51this is where I make this into a bed.
02:56So this is where I work.
02:58I do work at home.
03:01I'm a social media manager for a fashion company.
03:04It's such an important field, especially more than ever.
03:07So it's definitely a field that I enjoy and I really love.
03:09I definitely wanted a space where, especially working at home now, I wanted to feel like I'm in a zone.
03:15I feel rejuvenated.
03:16And this is a great spot because it gets so much natural light.
03:20And then I do enjoy like the paintings that I have here, which is very abstract.
03:24I kept it within the same color scheme of like the apartment feel.
03:27And then I also have this amazing painting by my niece, Carter.
03:32And she made that when she was two.
03:34I definitely wanted to showcase that.
03:36So anytime she comes over here, she can feel inspired and feel great about herself.
03:42My favorite item in my house is definitely my birds of paradise.
03:46I mean, my niece even named it and she called it planty.
03:49It's actually grown two new leaves, which I'm very excited about.
03:52And I was so happy with this plant that I bought another one, a baby birds of paradise.
03:57And it's actually blooming right now, which is awesome.
04:01In order to make this space work for myself on my own, I definitely had to strategize on ways
04:08to create divisions, like make my bedroom my bedroom and not work in my bedroom.
04:13So I added this curtain rod and put these sheer blankets to make it dreamy
04:19and make it feel that separation between.
04:25If you go in, I added these two drawings that I did by myself.
04:30When I first went to Jamaica, I went to Emancipation Park, which is in Kingston, Jamaica.
04:34And there's this huge statue and it's a statue called Redemption Song by Laura Fassi.
04:40And she made these sculptures basically to represent the end of slavery.
04:46So I definitely wanted to bring that component of my heritage,
04:50my Jamaican heritage into my space.
04:52So that way I always remember where I come from.
04:54This is where I chill out in the night.
04:57This is where I relax and sleep.
05:00And then if you go in here, it's my closet.
05:03So I definitely separate it by like work clothes and work.
05:08I definitely wear a lot of black and white,
05:10which does not replicate what I'm doing right now.
05:13But when it's the weekend, that's when I get to all the colors.
05:18This is actually really neat.
05:20So as soon as I moved in any bottle that gets popped,
05:23everybody needs to write on it and say a little message and date it.
05:27So I think that was like a nice touch just to always see and like reminisce
05:31and go back and see what happened during that time when we popped that champagne.
05:36This little vase, I actually thrifted as well.
05:38I'm a huge thrifter.
05:40It was $2, which is a great deal.
05:44So the balcony is pretty spacious and it oversees the courtyard in my building.
05:50In the courtyard, there's actually two fire pits.
05:52When it's really cold, I go out there with friends and just have a quick like little drink
05:56or a little chat and it's amazing.
06:00In order to make this space work,
06:02I made sure that I put a lot of artwork that I like that inspired me.
06:06I made a lot of color palettes that cheers me up, especially being by myself.
06:10And then also just going out for walks and going outside as much as possible.
06:14So that way, when I come back into my home, I'm not sick and tired of it,
06:18especially being home 24-7.
06:24Thanks so much for stopping by and checking out my sweet digs.
