00:00Hi, my name is Kimence. Welcome to my Sweet Digs. But before you come in, subscribe below.
00:06Okay, now come in.
00:09I live in Greenpoint, Brooklyn with my partner and we pay $31.50 a month.
00:14We get a lot of amenities, it's newly furnished, so I think it's kind of worth it,
00:19even though it still hurts to pay that much money.
00:22The old apartment is technically bigger than this one,
00:25but it was so narrow that you didn't actually have that much space to work with.
00:29So, moving into a newly renovated building was a big improvement.
00:34This is the kitchen.
00:35When we first moved here, the whole back wall was covered,
00:39so we asked them to remove it and actually expose the wood that we thought was really beautiful.
00:44But the downside to that is that it exposed everything because that's the only storage we have.
00:49So, what we did was decant everything, quinoa, rice, coffee, you name it.
00:54This keeps everything organized and clean.
00:56A thing that I really like about this apartment is that there's more room to entertain guests,
01:02which I didn't have the luxury to do in the last place.
01:05I'm half Persian, so a big thing in our culture is hosting and having, you know, guests over.
01:12So, I just have more counter space to cook and prep.
01:15I'm kind of living that side of me a little bit more here.
01:18And my plants seem to really like it here.
01:24And this is the dining area and the living room.
01:27I really like the dining table.
01:29It was really, really difficult to get a narrow oak table,
01:33but I found one for about $200 in overstock.
01:37And then this couch that I really, really like from Interior Design.
01:41We had it custom-made to the dimensions of the apartment.
01:44I watch a lot of movies, so I'm here a lot of the times.
01:48I run a recommendation website for women called Passerbys,
01:51as well as co-founded a film festival for female filmmakers called the Female Filmmakers Festival.
01:57With Passerbys, I wanted to create a platform where people would share what books they're reading,
02:02what music they're listening to, or how do they get that job.
02:06I think that was kind of the ethos with Passerbys and just making it as resourceful as possible.
02:13So, this is a bathroom.
02:15There's not much going on here, but I really like this shower curtain by Parachute.
02:19Some linen, real nice.
02:20I keep the bathroom pretty minimal, as well, similar to the bedroom.
02:24And the bedroom.
02:25I went with a minimalist approach for the bedroom,
02:28just because there wasn't much space to work with.
02:30Having less furniture and playing with a neutral palette,
02:33beige, whites, kind of helps open up the bedroom.
02:36Personally, the bed frame, I'm just a huge fan of Floyd furniture,
02:41so that's kind of why I went with this low bed frame.
02:44In terms of the other furniture, the side tables are from Amazon.
02:48The bench, that's really good as well, like, because it's pretty narrow.
02:52It's from Ikea, and it's always good to have some dead flowers, too, for decoration.
02:58When decorating this home, I was actually inspired by a lot of artist studios,
03:02specifically the Brancusi's studio in Paris, and Pinterest has also been super helpful for that.
03:11So we have a walk-in closet, which is pretty exciting for me,
03:15because in the last apartment, we had to store most of our clothing in suitcases.
03:19The walk-in closet is still a little small, but we found a solution by going to the container store
03:25and doing their closet system.
03:27So what we did is that we sent pictures of the closet completely empty to the container store,
03:32and they mocked up some designs on how to efficiently use the space.
03:36They sent a couple of options.
03:37We approved this one, something that utilized the high ceilings.
03:41We have two corners, one for me and one for my partner.
03:44Everything fits.
03:45No longer need to put things in a suitcase.
03:47This place is pretty much a dream apartment, but I think by New York standards.
03:53In terms of my next dream apartment, I think having more space would be great.
03:59It's still a one-bedroom, so it's pretty limited if you're living with a partner,
04:03but we make do, especially since it's pretty minimalistic.
04:06There's more room for things.
04:08But yeah, I think ideally it would be great to have more space,
04:12and then it would be pretty perfect.
04:20Thank you so much for watching my sweet digs.
