00:10We're up here in Tannersville, New York, which is about two hours north of New York City.
00:14We bought the house for $165,000, but it needed a lot of work, and we ended up putting about
00:20$40,000 into it,
00:22and that was with doing most of it completely ourselves.
00:25This house is about 1,500 square feet, and we like to spend our weekends here when we can.
00:31When we're not here, we Airbnb it.
00:34This is our dining area.
00:36The first thing I loved about this house were the 16-foot windows.
00:41The house was a complete mess when we got it.
00:43The windows were the only saving grace, really the only reason we bought it to begin with.
00:47I really worked extensively with my dad growing up on fixing up houses, building decks,
00:52but we really had to learn a lot as we went along.
00:55We ended up making this dining table ourselves.
00:57We couldn't find anything that fit our budget and fit the space, so we said let's just make it ourselves.
01:02This is our kitchen.
01:03The biggest thing with the kitchen was getting these cabinets level because the floor is just so unlevel.
01:09I definitely don't do any of the cooking. I'm not even allowed in the kitchen.
01:12I think you can go in the kitchen, it's just you like when I do cooking.
01:17That's true.
01:17We've been trying to eat a little less meat lately, so I think mostly fish and egg-based dishes. Simple
01:24things.
01:24Over here is our living space.
01:27My favorite find for this house are definitely the hanging chairs.
01:31We found them on clearance for $99.
01:34Everything else we were looking at was super expensive, like hundreds of dollars,
01:37so when we found them we were like, how many can we buy and where will we put them?
01:40The most expensive thing in this house is the couch from West Elm.
01:44It was definitely a little more than we wanted to spend, but I think it really makes a good statement
01:48in the room.
01:48The side tables in the living room are super cool, I think, because we actually made them.
01:53We found the bases from West Elm on clearance. They were actually planter bases.
01:58And then the tops were Eli's moms that she collected in France.
02:02We called this house the Hunter Greenhouse because we're in the town of Hunter and the county of Green.
02:07And we also knew that plants were going to play a big part in our decor.
02:11And then we took it a step further and painted the house green so that there's no ambiguity that this
02:17is the Hunter Greenhouse.
02:18We were looking for interesting things to add to the house decor-wise, so we came up with this idea
02:23for a plant wall.
02:24Up until about a few weeks ago, the plant wall only went up to here, and now it goes the
02:28whole way up.
02:29This is the downstairs bathroom. There was this small closet in the bathroom that we really didn't have any use
02:35for,
02:35so we ended up taking out the door and kind of refinishing it so it's a little space to get
02:41ready in while you're taking a shower to leave a towel.
02:43We actually ended up picking the paint color based on this really creepy old painting that we found,
02:50and we really just wanted to match everything to that.
02:55This is the one guest bedroom that I designed.
02:58When we bought the house, there were these two kind of similar downstairs bedrooms,
03:02and so we kind of just each took one to design.
03:06We wanted it to feel more open, so we actually took the closet doors off,
03:10and Eli built these really cool custom benches inside, and I hung this branch for storage.
03:17This is the bedroom that I designed.
03:19Danielle likes to claim that I somehow was attracted to this room and it was my mission to design this
03:27room,
03:27but the reality is, is that this is the smaller room.
03:30The bed frame we bought was actually from Ikea.
03:34We spray painted it with automotive matte black spray paint.
03:39Let's go up to the loft. This is our loft area.
03:42We had a DIY wedding at my family's house in East Hampton.
03:47These wood beams on the wall are actually from the deck at the house.
03:52They were the runners in the middle of the table for the wedding.
03:56Our vision for buying the house was really as an escape from the city.
03:59We both live and work full time in Manhattan,
04:02so it was nice to have a place to get away for a weekend or a week and just unwind
04:07and relax.
04:08We met in college. We were at a Red Bull event, and I was wearing high heels,
04:14and there was this handicap ramp I was trying to walk down,
04:17and someone had spilled their drink, so I fell.
04:20And Eli saw it happen and kind of came over to save the day, scooped me up,
04:24took me to the corner of the room, and he iced my knee all night.
04:27I didn't really know her name or any contact information,
04:32and then at the end of the night we went our separate ways and somehow found our way back to
04:38each other.
04:38And here's our master bathroom.
04:40I would never do penny tile ever again because, you know, you put it down,
04:46they come in sheets, and you lay everything out, and then you step back,
04:50and if it's not perfectly in line, you see every single seam.
04:54So we actually had to take everything up and do it again.
04:57We bought the concrete sink, and then we actually custom-built the vanity around it and painted it green.
05:04We also made this teak floor mat with a little bench beside the shower.
05:10And in here is the master bedroom.
05:12The master bedroom was actually one of the last rooms that we designed.
05:15We kind of established everything else in the house and put this on the back burner.
05:20It actually ended up being one of the coolest, and everything kind of came together really well.
05:23I think Eli is definitely the dreamer, and I'm the realist.
05:27He's like, oh, we need these hanging chairs, we need this hammock.
05:31And I'm thinking, how are you hanging it?
05:33I really had to sell Danielle on the idea because she didn't think it made any sense.
05:37He figured it out, and it's really cool, and it's relaxing, and people really love it.
05:41My favorite thing in the master has to be the wallpaper.
05:45I think I was kind of against the wallpaper because I didn't want it to feel too old-fashioned,
05:49but I think you found a really great one.
05:51We found this really cool grayish-blue pattern.
05:54I think it's really cool.
05:55I'm a dermatology PA, so I see skin cancer and rashes, and I treat acne,
06:01and I also do fun stuff like cosmetics as well.
06:03And I work for a software development company that does accounting software for large law firms.
06:08We both have pretty uncreative professions, I would say.
06:12It was nice to have an outlet and a big project to kind of funnel that creativity that we have
06:18into.
06:18I think our favorite thing to do in this house is just to sit with a good glass of wine
06:23and the hanging chair and listen to some records.
06:25I think as long as you have a comfortable place to sit and a nice view and these windows, you'll
06:32be okay.
