One Nation has solidified its standing as a genuine electoral threat after a comprehensive by-election victory in Farrer, at the expense of the Liberal party.

00:01There was a mood for change here in Farrah, and that is exactly what voters delivered.
00:07One Nation winning its first ever lower house seat at an election,
00:12and the coalition suffering a humiliating defeat in a seat it's held for nearly 80 years.
00:19The Liberal Party's primary vote collapsed to just 12% picked up by One Nation,
00:25particularly in the regional parts of this very vast electorate.
00:30Here in Albury, the Independent, Michelle Milthorpe, won nearly every booth, mirroring her performance at last year's federal election.
00:39The fact that Labor didn't run a candidate was expected to favour the Independent,
00:43but even some of the Labor vote appears to have sprayed to One Nation.
00:49At a local level, the question is, can David Farley deliver on the issues voters are concerned about,
00:54the cost of living, health and water policy?
00:58And federally, how long will One Nation's popularity last?
01:02With greater prominence will come greater scrutiny.
01:05One Nation's leader Pauline Hanson has solidified her party as a legitimate political threat to both Labor and the coalition,
01:14putting the major parties on notice and stating she's coming after more seats,
01:20including in Labor's strongholds in Western Sydney.
