00:26For the Liberals it's a much needed win, surviving a 10% swing against the party
00:31after a hard force and at times contentious campaign.
00:35It's to give to the Liberal Party for all the crap they've done on me.
00:39Their biggest challenger, One Nation's Darren Herkes, picked up almost 25% of the primary vote.
00:46The Liberal Party have done well, but we're in the game now, we're a serious contender.
00:52It's still ominous because after 12 years of a Labor government, we're not seeing momentum towards the Liberal Party.
00:58Local independent and former ABC presenter Tracey Hutchison also put up a challenge.

01:06Receiving 21% of the primary vote.
01:08We have had, you know, a genuine local campaign that has shown that people do have the power in politics.
01:16Nepean has traditionally been Liberal heartland, but booths around Rosebud and Drumarna swung heavily to One Nation.

01:28The swings in suburbs like Rosebud to One Nation is indicative of what we're seeing across the state of Victoria.
01:34And that is very large swings to One Nation at the expense of the coalition to a lesser extent Labor
01:40in blue collar, mortgage stress, rental stress areas.
01:44We've seen a drop in the primary vote. I'm not pretending otherwise.
01:47And as I've said, we've got lessons to learn from that.
01:50Labor set out the by-election altogether, but will be paying attention to the fragmentation of the electorate and the
01:56surge of One Nation.
01:58The Liberal Party can't govern without One Nation. They're going to rely on preference deals.
