00:02Scouting for votes on the first day of pre-polling in the Nepean by-election.
00:07On the Rosebud foreshore, all the main candidates were working the line, to the usual mixed reactions.
00:15I'm sick of the migration, so I'd like to see that to be slowed significantly.
00:19Local environment, I really want this place to be taken care of.
00:26The Labor has to go, but on the other hand, the Liberals have been hopeless,
00:30so let's just hope that Jess Wilson can bring them together and get it over with.
00:35For the Liberals, losing Nepean ahead of the November election would be a disaster.
00:40But with Labor not fielding a candidate, the main challenge appears to be from One Nation.
00:45It shows people are frustrated and they want to see a change in government.
00:48One Nation's rising poll numbers and a strong result in the South Australian election
00:52has the party confident it can be a contender in Victoria.
00:55Although its candidate is not speaking to the ABC.
00:59Well, it's not going to help my campaign, is it?
01:02So, thank you.
01:02Both parties sent in heavy hitters.
01:05Liberal leader Jess Wilson.
01:06Hi, Joey. Nice to meet you.
01:08And One Nation Senator, Malcolm Roberts.
01:11Sharing the hustings with three other candidates, including an Independent, the Greens and Libertarians.
01:17Voter turnout is usually lower at by-elections, but it's been busy here for day one of pre-polling in
01:22Nepean.
01:23The Victorian Electoral Commission says about 60% of voters will cast their ballot before polling day, ten days away.
01:30We're certainly noticing more and more people are choosing to vote early.
01:33It seems to suit people as well.
01:35We're also noting that people responded really well to our extended hours.
01:40Pre-poll booths will stay open until 8pm, including Anzac Day.
01:44.
