00:00Northern District Police responded to multiple reports from members of the public regarding a
00:06male who's armed with a knife running onto Main North Road at Elizabeth East. Police acted a
00:12medial in to locate and engage the man in order to protect public safety. During the confrontation
00:20a police officer was stabbed in the neck and the armed man was shot by police.
00:28Our immediate concern obviously is for the welfare of the police officer. So the police
00:34officer was transported immediately to hospital and is currently receiving treatment for serious
00:40injuries. We are providing appropriate support for her colleagues and of course for her family.
00:50The suspect as I said received a gunshot injury to the leg. He was also transported to hospital
00:57hospital and is also receiving medical care.
