The full names and school locations of every state school student in Queensland have been compromised in a massive data breach. Staff have also been affected with dozens of schools in New South Wales also possibly impacted. Hackers have held the data for ransom and cybersecurity experts are concerned the information may be sold online to child predators.

00:02A cyber attack targeting some of our most vulnerable.
00:06The full names, email addresses and locations of every state school student and staff member in Queensland

00:49QUT uses the software but says it hasn't been impacted at this stage.
00:54That data set for kids data has risks in terms of resale value to child sexual abuse material.

01:17The TPAA says it voiced privacy concerns multiple times to the education department.
01:23I think it's just a matter of violation because we know that there's so much data kept by the state
01:28government.
01:29The big problem is where that data goes, how it's stored.
01:32Queensland Education says it's providing priority support to families and teachers with known family and domestic violence situations,
01:39as well as those known to the Department of Child Safety.
01:43Canvas parent company Instructure has been contacted for comment.
