00:00It was intense. I think after I finished the first Mortal Kombat, I said I hadn't done a movie where
00:04I had to fight so much.
00:06And the second movie, it's that times three or four.
00:16Hey Asia1, I'm Ludie Lin and I play Liu Kang in Mortal Kombat 2.
00:20Let's go, baby.
00:25You, Johnny Cage, are a part of this now.
00:30What is Mortal Kombat 2?
00:34So in Mortal Kombat 2, Liu Kang's story picks up right after the first movie when he's lost to Kung
00:40Lao.
00:41And they've won the pre-tournament, but now they're preparing for the tournament.
00:47He's still one of the strongest fighters in the Earthrealm's champion.
00:52And he's just getting ready for the fight.
01:00For me, it's got to be when we finish, the day we finish the fight between Liu Kang and Kung
01:05Lao.
01:06Because we shot that fight for an entire week.
01:08And both me and Max were just completely exhausted, injured after we wrapped that fight.
01:12And we're just so happy to know that it's in the can.
01:15And we won't have to do it again.
01:18And I can't wait for everyone to see it.
01:26It was intense.
01:27I think after I finished the first Mortal Kombat, I said I hadn't done a movie where I had to
01:31fight so much.
01:32And the second movie, it's that times three or four.
01:37The choreography was a lot more complicated, also a lot more beautiful, a lot more exciting.
01:42As you know, there's so many fights in the movie.
01:45There's like 20 something fights in the movie.
01:47So many fatalities that we have to figure out.
01:50So training was intense, but also the energy was also just so much more amped up as well.
02:04Okay, so I don't know who's like the big brother or sister on set, but Joe's the uncle.
02:09Not even on set, more like off set.
02:12Because I think we all just go to his room.
02:16You know, he's always got a DJ table set up.
02:19He's got some lighting effects.
02:21And yeah, every single time when we have a hangout, we just go to his room.
02:26I remember one night, maybe it was close to wrap, when we stayed up just celebrating.
02:32And then we saw the sunrise coming up from the ocean because we were shooting this in Australia.
02:37And it's beautiful.
02:38It's perfect scenery.
02:39And then we just like, we start smelling something so good and hearing someone cooking.
02:47And we look back and it's Joe making izi goreng in the kitchen.
02:53And he's frying up the egg and cooking the noodles for everyone.
02:57And we're dead tired.
02:58And eating this food all together, watching the sunrise was the most beautiful moment.
03:04And I feel like Anna, who plays Queen Sindel, is probably the baby.
03:08Because she's just the most gentle soul.
03:11And you just want to protect her, you know.
03:13And I remember when we went to set to watch Anna play Queen Sindel, we were all shocked.
03:23Especially after her transformation.
03:26Because she's such, like I said, she's such a baby.
03:29She's so gentle.
03:30She's like a little chinchilla.
03:32And then as the Queen Sindel, her voice changed, her physicality, everything changed.
03:38It's shocking.
03:45For me, you know, I usually put the challenges that I've been through in life.
03:50Liu Kang was an orphan, brought into the temple underneath Raiden.
03:56And for me, I wasn't an orphan, but I've been alone in a lot of eight stages of my life.
04:04You know, studying in Australia and having to learn new things.
04:08Going through constant challenges, including bullying, including learning how to fight.
04:15So, put some of that history into Liu Kang.
04:18And of course, the martial arts training also helps when you're building a character that's just constantly fighting.
04:24And how we're different, I think Liu Kang is a lot more pure than I am, you know.
04:31I think his heart is full of light.
04:34And he has just one mission, one thing that he lives for is to fight for Earthrealm, is to obey
04:43Raiden and just serve out his purpose.
04:47As for me, sometimes I'm in my head a lot.
04:49I think a lot and I want different things.
04:52And that's how we're different.
04:55He's very sure of himself and I'm figuring it out.
05:06I have to travel a lot.
05:08So, jet lag at a certain hour.
05:10I definitely have no chi left.
05:14And then, sometimes, sometimes the internet can suck the chi out of me.
05:22There's so much going on that's sad, you know.
05:25Especially, you know, being in the States and being involved in all the political news is a lot.
05:37Yeah, I feel great.
05:39I feel like Chinese culture doesn't just come from China anymore.
05:44It comes from the Chinese diaspora all over the world, right?
05:47Places like Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia.
05:51To have that kind of inclusivity, I think it makes Asians in North America feel less separate.
06:00You know, for them to connect to something.
06:03It doesn't even have to be Chinese.
06:05I mean, everyone's into K-pop now.
06:08K-drama, you know, J-pop, J-drama.
06:12Everything.
06:13Everything is a celebration of Asian culture.
06:21I really love going to the museums here.
06:25Knowing the history of Singapore.
06:28Even though it's such a young country, the history is already so fascinating.
06:35But yeah, like chili crab is great.
06:37Black pepper crab, white pepper crab.
06:40Some of the steamed fish here.
06:43The durian is amazing.
06:46Yeah, anything for me, anything that's natural, I'll definitely eat.
06:49And if it's not, you know, I'll taste it.
06:51And it's, yeah, it's still great.
06:54Yeah, I love the Singaporean fans here.
06:57The last time I was here, I was at the Fort Canning Hotel.
07:02And ran into a lot of people that were fans in the street.
07:06Singaporean has a surprisingly, but a really good film history.
07:12You know, like your indie films are great.
07:14The film festival's a lot of fun going to that.
07:17I know a lot of people that have seen my work.
07:19And certainly I hope I'll meet even more people after Mortal Kombat 2 comes out.
07:24I hope a lot of Singaporeans go out to watch it.
07:27Bye, Asia One. See you in the theatres.
