00:00CPSU members have today voted overwhelmingly to take industrial action
00:04across the Admin and the Health Professionals Enterprise Agreements.
00:08Over 95% of members who participated voted yes to strike action, to work bans, to overtime bans
00:15because they've had enough of this government disrespecting them and their colleagues.
00:20This government is offering 3% per year over three years.
00:25Now we know that CPI is running at 4.6%.
00:28They are asking these hard-working members to take a real wage cut.
00:36That isn't something a Labor Party should be doing.
00:39That's not something a Labor government should be doing.
00:41So we're here today calling on the Andrew Barr government to step up
00:47and make sure they put an offer on the table that keeps up with the cost of living.
00:51We are not asking for very much.
00:53Our members want to put food on the table.
00:55They want to be able to pay the rent or their mortgage.
00:58And this offer sends them and their families backwards.
01:01This will affect not just our members, it will affect all Canberrans.
01:06I can announce today that Housing ACT staff will go on strike next Thursday
01:11to send a message to this Barr government that they have had enough.
01:15They do so much work for our community.
01:18They house some of our most vulnerable community members.
01:21They are subject to frequent occupational violence and threats.
01:25And they do it all because they love the work they do
01:28and they care about our community.
01:30And this government is showing them complete disrespect
01:33by asking them and their families to go backwards.
01:37The government must come to the table with a better offer
01:39and they have to come now.
01:41Otherwise, workers will be going on strike next Thursday
01:44and they are the first of many.
