00:01Welcome back. A Claxton Bay resident is sounding the alarm over a worsening
00:06landslip that is making everyday life increasingly difficult.
00:10Lakraj Bhattu, who has lived along Hermitage Road for the past five years,
00:14says what was once a proper roadway has now deteriorated into a safety hazard.
00:22Bhattu explains that when he first moved into the area,
00:25there was no road access, but over time a leak believed to be linked to Wasa combined with heavy rainfall,
00:31caused the land to give way. Now the road is no longer usable,
00:35forcing residents to rely on a fragile makeshift boardwalk just to reach their homes.
00:40He says even the simplest daily tasks have become a challenge.
00:45The challenge is that when it's raining and stuff, it's hard to walk into this pallet,
00:51out here because it tends to slip and then after it gets weeks at a time and it breaks.
00:58As you can see, some parts are broken.
01:00If we do have to make groceries and bring any stuff from one vehicle,
01:04we have to put it in proper baggage because the grocery bag can't take all it.
01:07We have to get the big shopping bags and then put everything in it.
01:11And then walk down here, me and my wife and my daughters,
01:15and then to go into that vehicle, jump in the rear and go down to the house.
01:19With the rainy season approaching, Bartu says conditions are only expected to worsen
01:24as residents' fare being completely cut off.
01:26He's now calling on authorities to step in before the situation escalates further.
01:32In the corporation, I spoke to someone last week and then they promised they're coming to do some work.
01:40At least any mini excavator and do a proper drainage on the side.
01:45At least enough to get some to ease the pressure of the land from being always constantly slipping
01:50because rainy season is coming now.
01:52So, and it's been very difficult for us walking up and down in this temporary boardwalk I've been making here.
01:59If we get some at least level the land to at least be level,
02:02so we can get at maybe more easy for us to go to accommodation.
