00:00Residents of Clifton Towers on St. Paul Street are complaining of a series of
00:04problems affecting their daily lives. Projectiles have been falling from the
00:09walls of Tower 4 onto the ground below, posing a hazard to anyone standing or
00:14walking nearby.
00:16We made a complaint, nobody replied to it well. Some months after, a bigger fraction fell off. Thank the almighty, nobody got hurt.
00:28One resident tells us it's not the only issue plaguing this HDC development.
00:34The lights not working, the water structure, the elevators not working. There's a lot of trash going through.
00:42And people are paying rent. And this is what they have to pay up to. And if they don't pay rent, they're quick to put them out.
00:51This is their laundry area.
00:54The majority of the people living in here are ageable people who are paying pension.
00:58Who are getting pension, who are getting NIS and these things. And these people who are paying rent.
01:03Water gone, we have to assist them because the elevators not working.
01:08We have to help them when the groceries go up.
01:12Two weeks the elevator taking the work. They're not paying the elevator man and they're moving the supplies so they're not coming.
01:19The resident says those who are paid to maintain the area do not show up.
01:24And therefore the residents themselves are forced to do the work on their own.
01:28The office for Simcoe Street HDC is on the B term. So how come we go get processed here?
01:36If the workers free to come here, hire workers, we will work here for the community. Simple as that.
01:42We're doing their work and they're getting paid.
01:45And we're doing their work and we're getting paid.
01:49When it's clean, you see the uniform here? This is the uniform we're cleaning here, baby. Three quarters.
01:56They tell us their complaints to the Housing Development Corporation have not yielded any results just yet.
