00:00Residents of Kanupia stage a protest over the long lag in the repair of the
00:05Bridal Road Bridge. A lot of businesses has been suffering in this area for the
00:10past months. Businesses has closed. Some are on the verge of closing. No one cares
00:16about the people on this area. No one. School children have been reaching to
00:22school late. Some have been missing their buses because they have to walk out to
00:26the main road to meet their buses. The bridge has been under construction over
00:30the past 10 months. We were told that this bridge would have opened since
00:34February. We are now into July. The responsibility and the box tops with the
00:41Minister of Works, Minister Sinanan. If this bridge was on the east-west corridor
00:47or it was somewhere where there is, where the people agitate for, this bridge would
00:52surely have been completed. The people are fed up and they want their bridge.
00:56This resident operates one such business in the area. I had a loss of income for over 10 months due to the closure of this bridge.
01:04When my bridge is located, it's a dead end. So all my clientele doesn't enter.
01:09Right now my shelves are empty. My light bill is due. I have kids. I have to get
01:15school books for them for school to reopen. In response to the Sunday
01:19protests, the Works and Transport Ministry posted a statement on its
01:22Facebook page saying its mission is clear, to upgrade the country's
01:26infrastructure to a first-class standard, one project at a time. It says work is
01:32being ramped up to ensure unparalleled connectivity across the country.
